Franklin Music Academy was perfect for my daughter. She had been at another school and was learning the basics, but her abilities grew exponentially under JP's guidance. The shorter lessons helped keep her attentive and consistency in the schedule kept her improving at a strong pace for almost 3 years. I have absolutely LOVED my experience at Franklin Music Academy! JP and Shani are so lovely to work with and Nathan is an incredible piano teacher. Going into piano lessons as an adult could be intimidating, but Nathan was so great about hearing out what I was interested in learning and not just teaching me how to play the pieces, but why different pieces were conducted the way they were, talked me through music theory, and curated my assigned pieces based on my personal skill level and interest. We signed our shy child up for piano lessons here and a year later they are as excited about lessons and practicing as they were then. The neighborhood location is nice, the pricing is fair and instructors are supportive and knowledgeable. There have seasonal recitals and as you can imagine, my kid was quite anxious. Our son had been interested in piano for a few years, but group and private lessons elsewhere didn't provide much spark. However at Franklin he took off like a rocket ship and made amazing progress in a few short months under the phenomenal guidance of Nathan Bales. Nathan is one of the best teachers I've ever seen - in any setting - not just music. He is extremely talented, patient, kind, and hard-working. He knows exactly how to work with every type of student, or even the same student on different days depending on how energized or tired the student is that day. He meets the students where they are. He makes the kids want to learn and progress without it ever seeming demanding. He is ever encouraging and never discouraging. I have had the pleasure of being a student at the Franklin Music Academy since the age of 7. I am now 18 years old and I can confidently say that I have grown not only as a pianist and as a performer, but as a person in general under JP's careful instruction. Both Shani and JP have done an excellent job at making me feel comfortable and cared for as I pursued my passion for music, and I have always felt encouraged to work hard and remain resilient. JP has helped me accomplish personal goals such as competing at the University Interscholastic League and receiving high marks for two consecutive years, performing in front of both large and small crowds, and becoming an adequate pianist with various life skills that I will be able to utilize for the rest of my life. My son has been going to Franklin Music Academy for under a year and I see progress with each lesson. Things don't always come easy for him and he tends to be hard on himself but JP is patient and works with him to build confidence. JP provides a balanced environment that allows the kids to have fun while learning. He is professional and takes the time to listen to any questions or concerns. We went to our first concert a week ago and I was so proud to see my son bravely play in front of an audience. I was impressed with how much work went into the concert and it was a fun event for everyone. Not only does JP have crazy musical talent, he also has a true gift for leading. Hi! Just wanted to share...we are so please with our son's progress under your instruction. It is exactly what we were praying for! He ENJOYS practicing the songs...He is already playing the new song along with the you-tube. Robert was playing in the back seat as we were traveling to your home today, My daughter was on the speaker phone talking with me...she said..."Mom! We highly recommend Franklin Music Academy! JP (owner/teacher) has been teaching our 3 girls (ages 7, 9, & 11) piano, bass, and drums over the past year or so, between their traveling for two Broadway tours. He is absolutely GREAT with them! I appreciate that he doesn't talk down to them or move too slow. He challenges them, and they rise to the occasion. JP has a proprietary system of teaching and tracking progress, which is fun for kids, and which my girls have enjoyed because it instills a friendly competition through a sort of "music leader board." We have asked JP (sometimes on very short notice!) to help the girls learn and arrange multiple different types of music- rock, pop, country, gospel, and even help with some complex Broadway harmonies. He's been very accommodating and encouraging. JP has also given them stage practice, and even arranged to get them a performance at SXSW 2018 (youngest band to ever perform there!). He is a former public school music teacher, as well as a songwriter/performer, so he knows his stuff, both musically and pedagogically. JP listens to parents' concerns, too, like when we asked to keep the stage volume lower so as not to damage their young ears, he did so. We expect to keep working with JP for as long as our girls (IG = @guilbot.sisters.project ) are based in Austin. read more

Franklin Music Academy is a five star music school! I found FMA through a Google Search and it turned out to be the best possible fit for my son and his music interests. The director, JP, is amazing. Not only is he a talented musician in his own right, but he's also an excellent instructor. He sets a good pace for the kids and encourages them to learn their instrument and to have fun. My son started out doing group piano lessons and then moved to private instruction. He really enjoys working with JP and I plan on continuing lessons at FMA for years to come.
