My daughter started piano lessons at 7 and really didn't like it. A friend told us about Don't Stop Rockin' and we decided to give piano one more shot before moving on. Thank goodness we did as she's been there over a year and still loves it. She's wanted to take a break from other extra curriculars, but this is the one thing she never wants to miss. She wasn't the best about practicing in the beginning, and her instructor said that was fine, they don't want to push, they just want them to have fun (and learn while doing so). After several months she became more excited about practicing and playing at home in her spare time, and I think the lack of pressure was a big part of the reason why. And as a testament to more than just their lessons... Days before one of the twice-yearly shows my daughter got cold feet. She worried she wasn't prepared enough to perform in front of others and decided to back out. I explained she needed to talk to James to determine how to proceed. James gave her his full attention, casually told her not to worry, she'd be fine and set her up with Todd for a quick lesson/assessment. It turned out she was completely prepared just experiencing serious jitters. Todd reassured her that she knew her stuff and that he would be there beside her at the show, so no worries! She walked out confident and totally ready to play and have fun. The lessons and environment (for parents waiting during practice) are fun and casual. You not only get to know the staff, you get to know other kids and parents. It's an environment any musician (young or old) would love, and any future musician will quickly fall in love with. My boys used to dislike music lessons and it took a lot of energy to encourage them to practice. After we found Rob, James, and Todd everything changed for the better. Whereas with our previous teacher who sometimes brought the kids to tears, they come out of DSR happy and telling us they "love to play" guitar and piano. Rob is an awesome teacher and has really engaged one of our boys with guitar. Todd has made piano fun and enjoyable for our other two boys. They love "The Big Show" where they get to perform on stage and showcase what they have been working on. You can go the strict music teaching route that many choose to try to get their kid to be a Mozart. Most parents I have talked to said their kid never wanted to touch a piano again after high school going that route. Better yet, you can take your kids to DSR where they will be learning music in a way that will keep them engage not only as kids but through adulthood. The first day I took our son to DSR to learn guitar, I heard lots of laughter as they were learning to play. I don't think I ever heard our kids laugh once with their previous instructor! Just to give you a little guide on how good the teaching is, my son got Rocksmith 2014 for Christmas and within a couple of hours was playing "Where is My Mind?" by The Pixies on master mode where the notes disappear and you play it by memory! read more

My daughters tend to be nervous nellies about most new things, but James, Rob, Derek and Todd at Don't Stop Rockin' made their first music lesson experience easy peasy and so FUN! They get rewards, have kid-friendly (and parent friendly) short performance showcases that gently warm kids up to the experience of performing in front of a friendly audience, and the owners consistently go the extra mile to provide stellar customer service and create a warm and friendly community within their rockin' space. They know how to teach music lessons to today's kids in a way that is engaging, fun and modern! I love all the positive reviews here on Yelp for Don't Stop Rockin', and by all means please weigh my opinion against all the other amazing reviews on here. I'm only chiming in to share my experience from the perspective of a parent, not from the perspective of my child who took piano lessons at DSR (for a few months). He liked his lessons but we were running into an issue with our child feeling over scheduled. DSR does not accommodate families who need a little flexibility or who want to slow things down. For example, because our child was feeling over scheduled, he could have benefited from going bi-monthly or once a month. Because that doesn't fit in with DSR's needs (they need children attending every week--more money from children attending every week, versus a child who wants to slow things down), we were pushed out. Ultimately we were asked to bring our child in every week or he lost his spot to another child who wanted to come in every week. To add to that, from the get go, I felt subjected to some high-pressure sales tactics. When we initially signed up our son, we were emailed about a spot that had opened up for our son. We had to make a decision within the hour because the spot that had opened up was offered to both our family and another family. Pretty hectic introduction to DSR. Between DSR and us, our styles and approach in life are probably different and that led to some friction in our experience with DSR. If you're looking for flexibility, to slow down your pace, or take your time to decide, DSR's style won't mesh with yours. read more

Don't Stop Rockin' is THE place to go for music lessons. My son has been taking guitar lessons since August of 2011 and he absolutely loves it!!! The entire staff is incredible!! They make it so much fun for the children; they don't even realize they are learning! Rob is amazing with the kids and absolutely knows his stuff! They are all very personable and you can tell each of them have an intense passion for music. Every detail of the business has been planned out from the weekly online videos, the progress reports (emails), ease of signing up for the classes, and the BIG SHOW at the end of each session (along with programs, autograph and photo time, and special rocker passes). These guys are legit and I highly recommend them to anyone looking to get your kids involved in music. You won't regret it! read more

Across the board, this is just a well-thought out and well-run business. I have been incredibly impressed with DSR's ability to make music lessons fun, cool and effective for the kids, while still catering to the people who pay the bills: the parents. I get feedback every two weeks from my son's instructor regarding what he's doing well and where he should spend a bit more time. The online videos are amazing. If my son misses a week (which is rare), he can catch up using videos from any of the previous weeks. read more

My kids did not start lessons with DSR but have ended up here and they just love it! Rob, James and the rest of the people there are great! We love DSR! My son is currently taking electric guitar lessons. His teacher is Shawn and he's amazing. My family has no music experience so to see our son learn and play amazing music is so wonderful. I'm amazed by how much he learns at every lesson. Shawn picks songs based on my son's interests and that has been so beneficial with keeping him interested in music. He's very patient and a talented musician. Everyone at DSR is so nice and you can tell a lot of thought and planning goes into making this place a success. When you walk into DSR you immediately walk into an environment that's hip and screams music. James does an amazing job with scheduling and is always so friendly and takes a vested interest in DSR and the families that attend. Our oldest has been with DSR since the beginning, and we couldn't be more impressed with their operation. Rob and James could have easily taken their program and focused on franchising it to make a quick buck, but they focus all their time (and a lot of money) making the local program better and better. We're blown away by the show at Hill's Cafe at the end of the year too. They constantly throw little surprises as well, like one year they had our child show up in a stretch limo for the Big Show. Their program is much more thorough and focused than the other companies in the same realm. The weekly emails that are focused specifically on each child shows that they really focus on each kid's progress. It's very exciting each year to see what they come up with next. read more

These lessons rock! The kids learn songs right from the start and the lessons build in a way that keeps everyone on track. By the end of DSR 301, my daughter was playing a solo in the big show. They ask the students to practice about 15 min a day and they support the lessons with online videos that are really well done. The BIG show is the highlight of the class--not your typical recital. The students play at a live venue with a band and singer backing them up. So much fun for everyone. read more

My son has been taking piano lessons at DSR for 6 months and I am amazed at how much he has learned. His lessons are based on a tradional book but each week he also works on a popular radio song of his choice. The lessons are fun and he loves it. I like having a relationship with a program that offers private and group lessons on various instruments and voice.
