The teachers there are so kind and happily play with the kiddos. Lastly, and probably my favorite part of this place, there's so many animals! They've got cats, goats, a guinea pig, a bunny, a tortoise (I think lol), and birds. My son always puts up a fight to leave! Figment is our favorite place to go when we don't know what to do. Then you can head over to the birds of prey, the reptile/fish building, and the animal enclosures. There's also a little lake and a large sand pit (dino dig). There's a cool room in the visitor center that has all sorts of nature items (bones, dead bugs, shells, rocks, etc.). You can bring in your own stuff to trade! Is it a huge amount of things to do/see? No but for a free attraction, it's pretty great. Parking is across the street -- lot is shared with Zilker Park and all the nearby attractions so it can get busy.

They gave every kid a chance to come up front, which is good, but it meant that the same cheap tricks were repeated several times. For example, we watched 16 different kids spin a tube in the air and make a WOO WOO WOO noise with it. They did not explain why the tube makes the noise. We sat, watching even more kids pull a string attached to a bucket to make a vaguely thunder like noise over and over and over again. Again, no explanation of sound waves or vibrations. I don't know why the presenter was in a lab coat. I don't know why the show was recommended for ages 8 and up only. By the time you're 8, you've already shaken a slinky around (another one of the 'scientific demonstrations') Some kids went up twice, while there were still others raising their hand for their turn to go up the first time. The presenter never asked for only those who haven't been up yet to raise their hand. Several families left immediately after their kid finished their turn on stage.

We also hosted his birthday party here, and it was a huge hit. Every single kid had an absolute blast, and it was so well organized. Instructions by the staff very useful! Friendly. Helpful. Welcoming. We each chose something different. Plenty of items small, med or large to chose from. Pottery comes with whatever pain you want, glass area there are easy and complex projects. You pay, they fire/bake the pieces and you show up about a week later to grab your pieces. We each got something around 40.00 or under. Time flew by. We were there for maybe 2.5hrs. My teens were not on their phones once. Engaged, creative, good family time.
