It was a really cold and windy day so we wanted a hot drink. I asked for an extra hot latte and was told they do NOT make drinks hotter. When I asked what temp do they make them at I was told 120 degrees which is like a lukewarm latte. We have friends that own coffee shops in NYC and Nashville. We have traveled the world, gone to most coffee shops when we come to visit and grew up in NYC with the meanest baristas and no one has EVER told me that they could not make my drink at min 145 degrees which is what most coffee shops with steam them at. They don't serve iced drinks. I asked for an iced americano and they said they can't do that, only cold brew over ice or a hot americano. I was dumbfounded. They have other iced drinks but cannot serve espresso, water, and ice. This is not some weird modification. Is there some sort of moral justification for not serving me espresso over ice? I've been to Velo a couple times now and I'll have to say, they have some pretty cool coffee drinks. I'm always trying to find new coffee spots and love their specialty drinks! The baristas are a bit standoffish and aloof but I can't deny they make good coffee. The outdoor seating is a bit messy (well, as in the ground is dirty, which in turn makes my white pup dirty) but overall pretty convenient. My last visit to Velo, there was plenty of seating but unfortunately, it was very busy and the last table available was in the scorching sun... so suffice it to say, we didn't stay long. My favorite coffee drinks that I have tried have been the $5 Specials from 2021 (I know, ages ago now) but were both super creative and delicious! I loved the complexity - basically like an alcoholic cocktail but with caffeine. The Garden Party was floral and pretty but the Nitro Radler was so tasty and easy to drink. The coffee soda is also a great and simple coffee "cocktail" if you will that I highly recommend. I came across Velo via a recommendation from a friend who is no longer with us, Vic Yang. The service was great. The ambience was super, but unfortunately, the coffee was tepid. Abel was fabulous! She kindly remade it and ut was the same, but it was still lukewarm. They refunded the latte. My friend's coffee was tepid too and warm enough to put your finger in it to not get burned and warm enough to put in a baby bottle. Great little coffee house over on the Southside so close to us. We discovered these guys and instantly fell in love. They offer craft drinks, as well as their own coffees roasted to perfection. I have pretty much switched completely from Starbucks to their blends. My only complaint about Velo is they only have ONE SIZE of coffee, and I want a BIG COFFEE, not the equivalent of a Tall at Starbucks being the only size. Also these guys carry Bread and Butter products in their case for a snack. Highly recommend, check them out for sure. read more

This place came highly suggested from a couple of the residents at UTChatt. It was chilly out but since we had the pup we sat on the back patio. The staff was super helpful and friendly, I'm a plain Jane coffee drinker so I appreciated when the barista didn't judge me for not knowing what half the menu was . Went with the suggested cortado, the milk was frothy and slightly sweet which perfectly offset the typically bitter espresso. My husband went with the Guatemalan drip, it came in this cute little press and was very good. Typically I can't drink straight black coffee because of its bitterness but this was delicious. One of the only coffee shops I legit want moved to my community. The brews here are pure art and just look at those menus! I couldn't get enough of the coffee in Rose Dreamz form and had to run right back to the counter to try something else. Went for Triple T and again, super tasty, refreshing, summer sunset in liquid form. My friend who was a bit miffed to stop on our trip down to Atlanta immediately changed his tune once he got the Bunny Hop. So good! I love seeing original ideas thrown together with creative ingredient combinations. This place feels a bit weird as the atmosphere of eclectic garage sale vibes doesn't match the exquisite drinks.
