Making the reservation through OpenTable was easy, and from the outside, Palm City Social makes a great first impression. Nice-looking place, inviting entrance, and everything suggested we were in for a polished dining experience. Then we walked inside. The dining room has more of an upscale food-hall-meets-diner-with-a-bar vibe, and the acoustics are... ambitious. Every conversation, fork, glass and chair seemed to ricochet around the room like it had somewhere important to be. I wear hearing aids and eventually turned them off because apparently they were doing their job a little too well. Silence, or at least partial silence, was an improvement. Our waitress was very pleasant and friendly. The issue wasn't personality. The issue was actually seeing her. She took my cocktail order and a water for my wife, and about 15 minutes later the bartender arrived with both. At that point, I was happy to see anybody carrying liquid in our direction. Then began The Wait. A table of four was seated directly behind us after we arrived. They were promptly greeted, told the day's specials, and had an appetizer order taken while we sat there wondering whether we had accidentally selected Palm City Social's new "Invisible Table Experience." I was sitting with my face in my hand watching this unfold when I learned, entirely by eavesdropping, that the restaurant apparently had specials. Good to know. Eventually -- voilà! -- our waitress returned and told us about them. At that point, I was afraid if we said, "Give us another minute," we might not see her again until dessert, so we ordered immediately. I went with the Chicken Milanese, and my wife ordered the Kung Pao Cauliflower. And because I was now conducting an unofficial field study, I started a timer. Exactly 30 minutes later, the food arrived. Fortunately, this is where Palm City Social earned back a lot of goodwill. The Chicken Milanese was excellent: panko-and-Parmesan-crusted Bell & Evans chicken over piquillo pepper and artichoke tapenade, topped with baby arugula and local tomato in a white balsamic vinaigrette, finished with hand-grated Reggiano and fresh lemon. It sounds like a lot going on, but it all worked. The chicken was crisp and flavorful, the tapenade was an excellent accompaniment, and the fresh arugula, tomatoes, Parmesan and lemon balanced everything nicely. Very fresh, very tasty, and clearly prepared with some care. My wife's Kung Pao Cauliflower was also very good. Oven-roasted and glazed cauliflower with house-made kung pao sauce, chile nut crumble and scallions over coconut-herb basmati rice and local vegetables. Fresh, flavorful and substantial enough that nobody is going to mistake it for three sad pieces of cauliflower pretending to be dinner. So, despite the slow service, I'm sticking with four stars. The waitress was lovely, the food was legitimately good, and nothing about the service felt rude or careless. It felt more like they may simply need another server or two when the restaurant gets busy. My biggest suggestion: if you're sensitive to noise, eat outside. Next time, that's exactly what we'll do. The outdoor area looked much more relaxing, and I suspect my hearing aids and I will both appreciate the decision. I'd also probably come back for lunch and see how the place feels during a quieter part of the day. Bottom line: the food is worth trying. Just bring a little patience. And if you're sitting inside, perhaps some acoustic paneling. Or earmuffs.

Decided to stop in for tuna stack and guacamole (that we've previously enjoyed on prior occasions). Seemed odd that on a Thursday evening at 6pm the hostess asked if we had reservations. That should have tipped us off that things were different. The bar was full and the very loud. Our server didn't know what fish was on the special for the evening. We weren't enticed, so we went with our original order. Then the disappointment set in; the tuna stack was literally have the size of the ones we've had there. The mango salsa layer wasn't salsa it was bland chopped mango. The bottom layer of guac was about an inch and the chop tuna was light pink to white (at best). Needless to say the "shareable" lasted about three bites each for two people. Regretfully, we ordered the guacamole that was also disappointing. The portion was smaller than before and lacked flavor (seasoning). A few nuggets of corn topper and no cheese (as described on the menu). That "shareable" comes with a salsa that was the coup de grâce of disappointment; it was runny and lacked any semblance of chopped vegetables. It literally tasted like spaghetti sauce and not the good type. We pulled up our Yelp review from last year and sure enough the portions are not even close in terms of size or presentation. We showed the server our pics from last year's Yelp post and she said that she's never had that order. She gave the chef our feedback. Later on she came back and said the chef acknowledged the "salsa" consistency. He offered to make a fresh batch... our plates were gone by that time and we weren't about to take that offer. The grand finale ended with the check being delivered and our server telling us "an automatic 18% service fee is added to the check"... my wife and I looked at each other with utter disgust. We wasted $47 on two awful shareables and one unsweetened tea. It's sad to see yet another restaurant go down the drain so quickly.
