I always get french tips here and they do an amazing job!!!! The shape of my nails is always perfect too. The guy who always does my fingernails takes so much time to make sure they are the perfect shape and length. The ladies who have done my pedicure are very sweet and do a wonderful job, taking time and not rushing. I highly suggest this salon, they have my business! I decided to leave my regular nail place, and try some place new! The shape done on my nails was amazing. I also appreciated them asking me if I was into thicker or thinner acrylic I usually get stuck with a lb on my hands anywhere else! they had tons of nail add ons & decals I'm so excited to return! My only complaint would be accidentally getting the wrong color on my hands which was also partly my fault for not realizing till the end, but am still extremely pleased with the result! Don't go here. They painted my gel without letting it dry so by the next day the polish was coming off. The black paint then got all over my white nails. They were nice the first time, but when I went back so they could fix their mistakes, the woman had an attitude. She then did an okay job at fixing them. The black paint is now really thin and you can kinda see through it. They're just general sloppy. Stuff stuck in the dried gel, lines not sharp, and they're bumpy. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. read more

Not happy with my experience. Since Covid they have reopened and there a lack of quality service. They don't allow to wash your hands during a full set , they don't put cuticle oil on your fingers and don't massage your hand with lotion. The pricing has gone up. Throughout my full set the nail tech kept checking his phone. I arrived at 11:30 wasn't sat till 12:50 for a pedicure then I did a full set gel polish and didn't leave until 2:40 There was no crowd and only one person before me and she had been waiting for 40 min 10 min after 10 min into my wait. When I asked for a brown color the nail tech woman just handed me pink colors - had to ask 3x and eventually pointed to her seat color stating do you have any of that color. She once again handed 3 sets of multi colors non included brown. The closest was a squash color and I decided pink since they didn't have brown I'm assuming. My big toe nail broke off and the nail tech didn't file it even so it's on a angle and did not take all the red polish. There really wasn't a massage - she rushed through my whole pedicure. The full set was done by a male he kept checking his phone and texting. I think he thought I didn't notice because I was on YouTube but I was quite annoyed. The shape and color is good but He did not clean under my nails, did not put cuticle oil or provide me lotion- so it looked dry on the skin and crappy underneath. My full set ended up being $63- the up charge for gel polish is ridiculous it's literally the same amount of work as regular nail polish I'm not upset at the full set paint or shape - it's the detail of not getting a full experience Pedicures need to be more thorough as well No one was rushed and there was not a crowd. Absolute TRASH... 50$ for this "basic pedicure" now mind you on the menu the basic pedicure is 30-35$ and I requested gel polish which I know is an up charge but from 30 to 50? I LOVE Vela Nails! This unassuming salon is a true gem. Beware... if you are a fan of Acrylic or Gel nails, you may just change your mind. Ann, the owner, is constantly upgrading the materials and services that she offers. Committed to only using natural products that are not harmful to her clients, she is the only salon in Baton Rouge that carries the SNS Nail product. For years, I had acrylic nails. Loved the long length that it gave my thin brittle nails, but hated that the tips made the shape of my nails look bulky. Not to mention, REALLY hated the damage that it was doing to my nail bed. I love the shape of my natural nails and wished there was a product that would keep the shape of my nails and not damage them. Then Gels came along... I was so happy, my nails would need to be a little shorter, because gel nails (shellac) didn't fortify my nails as much as acrylic nails did, but at least my nails looked more natural and it was healthier. Or so I thought. Then came Vela Nails and the SNS nail system. Ann taught me what these products were actually doing to my nails and the danger of the abrasive sanding down of my nail bed. SNS has kept my nails growing long (like acrylics) and strong The paint color staying on longer than gel/shellac and my nail beds staying healthy because of the SNS nail system. After seeing many glowing reviews, I decided to visit Vela Nails. I've been wanting to try out SNS and they are one of the few salons in Baton Rouge that offer it. I first visited on a Saturday afternoon and was told there was a 15 minute wait. I should have known better. After 40 minutes and still another person (possibly two) before me, I decided to make an appointment for another day. On both visits, there were only two techs. They really need to hire more to keep service moving. When I arrived for my appointment, I only waited for about 5-7 minutes. The service itself was fine. She did a pretty good job on the manicure. It did appear to take twice the time as a gel application, but it was my first time trying it and I wanted it done properly. Overall, the finished product looked good. I wasn't crazy about the shape ( and she didn't ask), but it was doable. Here's where it goes downhill --- within FOUR DAYS, the SNS started to crack on two nails. Very disappointed. $41( with tip) and it only lasted four days? Unacceptable. Today, two more nails chipped. I am not extremely hard on nails and my gel usually lasts two weeks or more. I've been told this treatment does the same, so to say I'm disappointed is an understatement. The only reason they are receiving two stars is because of the actual manicure and they were friendly. I will stick with Zaza nails or Best Nails and do not plan to return to Vela. read more

Andy was great! I don't know my pedicure lady's name but she was nice also. It's a regular nail shop inside, but the staff are welcoming and take their time to to good work. I got gel on my nails and there was a little mixup when I asked about the price (because there is a mani/pedi combo price but it does not include gel). I waited almost 3 hours when people who had came in after me were leaving with their dipped nails. I kept getting pushed off. The owner gave me 20% my next visit, but that doesn't really mean i'll be back. I was incredibly upset they took so much of my Friday evening especially since I had plans with my family. Now...I never mind paying for great service but to pay 65.00 for nails and two days later have to pay 25.00 for repairs is a little but much for me. She did fix my nail so I have no real complaints. My sisters were visiting from out of state and out of the country. We decided to do a sister date together. We wanted to get mani/pedis. After reading the rave reviews, I decided to try Vela Nails... big mistake. The place was clean, and got us in quickly. Other than that, it was a nightmare. They cut one of my cuticles so badly, it started gushing blood. We were promised that the colors we picked had an exact match in gel polish... if an exact match is a few shades different, and florescent, it sure was! The massage was terrible, painful even, and there was nail polish all over my toes, not just on the nails. The nail techs breath smelled heavily of booze. It took four freaking hours! According to the prices posted on the wall, the three of us should have cost $190.00. These con artists charged us $295.00 despite me pointing out the posted prices. Buyer beware. read more

So much love for Vela Nails. I do SNS nails every 2 weeks and get a regular pedi once a month. My current SNS polish is 3.5 weeks old and one nail just started lifting yesterday but again I usually would have had it changed last week. The salon is clean, smells wonderful thanks to the diffusers they have going, and they open the sterilized nail package in front of you. I always go during the weekdays, sometimes I'll call that morning for an appointment but I've also shown up when they just opened and both times the service was great. I cannot speak to how the weekends are though. read more

After hearing such great things about this place, my friend and I wanted to try it. I called in the morning to make an appointment for later that afternoon. The woman who answered talked so softly and mumbled that I couldn't understand her and had to ask her to repeat herself multiple times. The one thing I could understand was when I asked for a certain time she said they didn't have it. I almost hung up but she gave the phone to a man. When I told him what I wanted, magically they were able to take us at the time I originally asked for. When we arrived on time, there were only 2 people working. I understand it's midday on a Thursday but still. With little hope left, we decided to stay and picked our colors. We continued to wait but then realized that the 2 women working already had clients and didn't seem to be done any time soon. We decided to leave. My friend and I went to another place down the road. An hour and a half passes and my phone rings. It's the man I talked to earlier. He yelled at me saying we didn't show up. I explained to him that we did and we didn't want to wait all day. He asked the other women in another language and she yelled at him back. He continued to argue with me saying I was in the wrong.
