Misrepresentation and BEDBUGS?
Definitely do not recommend this location. Misrepresentation of deposit amount to be charged (they charged substantially more than they stated during my reservation phone call); lack of full disclosure re: facilities, amenities, and fees; and refusal to rectify issues arising from their misrepresentation and lack of disclosure by refusing to refund any of amount paid or even to allow amount paid to apply in full towards partial stay. Owner stated, repeatedly, using first person pronoun of "I", that she had not made various statements and that she had indeed communicated various facts during the reservation phone call (thereby clearly implying I was lying about what was told to me and what wasn't communicated to me in that reservation telephone call conversation) but, at another point in the discussion, revealed the lies behind her numerous claims to have been the person I spoke to when she used the third person pronoun of "she", saying "Well, when you reserved your cabin, she would have told you....". When directly questioned as to whether it was indeed her with whom I spoke during my reservation phone call, she acknowledged it had been her daughter with whom I spoke. When the discrepancy regarding her earlier use of pronouns and the reality of it actually being her daughter with whom I spoke was called to her attention, as well to the clear implications behind that reality, the owner remained resistant to accept responsibility. In town, I encountered someone who had worked for a substantial amount of time for the previous owners of the Lodge but who found it a hostile workplace since ownership changed. This informant stated that the current owners have indeed done similar things to other customers and it was because of unscrupulous actions such as this that she felt she could no longer work for the current owners. I also heard from other hotel owners in the area that other customers had come in with similar complaints.
In addition, after two nights stay (and prior to spending the night at any other establishments), I have multiple insect bite wounds on parts of my body which can not be attributed to any other biting insects (due to their locations - some of these bites are on areas of my body which would not be exposed to mosquitoes or biting gnats, etc ) and which look like bed bug bites.
In short - be aware when renting from this location. Visit first so you know what you are getting (neither their website nor their staff will be open and frank - if you are looking for a rustic place to get-away from it all, this might be the place for you. It isn't the place for you if you require internet access for business access or even a landline); clarify in writing with them before making any financial obligations; and bring along some diatomaceous earth to place around the bed to protect yourself from nasty bed bugs. read more
