Honestly better than I expected. Calling the pool heated is a bit of a stretch though.

I figured out why this place is on Railroad Ave. There's a…read more$14 parking fee they don't tell you about online, you won't know this until your checking in. Never heard of this before? Feeling railroaded? You must go back to your car and put this bright pink parking pass on your dash or I guess they'll tow you. It's another $15-$16 for a continental breakfast in the morning. At least you can opt out and eat elsewhere. We only stopped here because it was getting late and we wanted to say we spent the night in Parachute, Co. But once you've stopped your mind says your tired, just stay. The room was clean and for an older place it was quite comfortable. Two queen sized beds that didn't bother the back and an excellent bath-which had a powerful shower. T.V. was nice and easy to operate even though the cable package sucked, you can't have it all. Besides, after driving for ten hours, nobody was awake to watch it. I bet you can figure this out. There was no fridge, but a freezer. Good thing we didn't put the insulin in there. Come morning, the leftover Jets pizza was not edible for at least an hour. The nice lady (Lori?) popped up a bag of corn, surprisingly at no charge and also had complimentary coffee pods. Mrs. E. had an apple cider. Strange, but, we would consider coming back. Especially, if we had more energy to use the pool and sauna. 05/24

The staff was welcoming and went out of their way to make the kids feel special with treats and gifts. The pool was perfect for our daughter to burn off some energy after a long day in the car.

When we arrived, the check-in woman said that Hotwire had allocated our room, which had a queen bed for three people, without a sofa bed. I said this wasn't appropriate for our group size, but her suggestion was that we call Hotwire and cancel the room. This just didn't make any sense. I asked if they could change our room, but she insisted this would be an upcharge of $50. Then I asked if there was a supervisor who could clear up this problem, although this woman also passed the buck to Hotwire. I assumed they must be full that night, but no, they weren't. They were just cheap, argumentative, and irrational. After haggling for way too long, the manager finally agreed to provide us a suitably-sized room, but "just this once." WTF? This was appalling customer service. I'll add that this is a dated Holiday Inn with run-down rooms and amenities, and without a working pool. (They didn't have any gluten free options at breakfast either, so why should we pay more to receive less?) Two stars for the serene view of the river, zero stars for the absolutely dreadful customer service.

The first room we were given was beyond filthy. The…read morecarpeting was disgusting, including numerous stains - didn't look like it had ever been cleaned. The furnishing and lamp shades were badly worn and/or torn and there appeared to be something smeared on the wall as you entered the room. When my husband checked at the front desk about getting another room, the clerk initially said there wasn't anything available. When my husband started got irritated and mentioned how nasty the room was with other hotel guests nearby, the clerk mysteriously was able to find another room. The second room was slightly better, but this place is WAY overpriced for the condition it's in!

We checked in, got our maps and information and headed to our room that I actually recognize another Yelp Elite stayed at! Photos on Booking.com appeared bigger, the room was much smaller, but still cozy and spotless! Kitchen had basic necessities with coffee maker, a microwave, a sink, and small drawers. The bathroom was super adorable with a white mirror smiling back at us and the heater would operate every 15 mikes or so and warmed up our room. Although spotless, the "clean" smell was incredibly strong and we did prop open the windows. We were surrounded by lots of restaurants and town life. Our sole purpose was to visit the ice caves of Rifle and Western Star Inn was perfect, because this was just that place where we'd sleep and leave out the door early morning. Western Star Inn had breakfast all the way until 11:00am, that we took advantage of! It was mostly a continental breakfast style, filled with snacks and no drinks. We got hard boiled eggs, laughing cow cheese, apples, yogurt etc., and out the door we go for adventure. We did get a coupon for 15% off for the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool, and we also slept very comfortably in our beds. Overall a really pleasant stay. We got to make friends with Laura (or Lauren?) front desk reception and her husband. We thought their customer service was splendid. They just moved from Washington, which is another state I truly want to visit.

It's a locally run facility so they actually care and are helpful! The rooms are simple, small and comfortable but perfect for a quick night on a budget. You can't beat it for the price. A remnant of days gone by. A hanger-on, with a firm grip on the past. They still use pen to paper registration slips, and you'll get a smile from the owner as you're filling it out. You, too, will smile when you see how reasonable the room rates are. My charge for the night was a mere $74 and change. Almost unheard of in these inflated times. My room was small and comfortable. I, being the only occupant, found it to be perfect for my needs. Stunningly clean and well-appointed. Your host, if asked, will steer you in the right direction for a delicious meal. And if that direction is toward the Mexican House restaurant, you're in for a real treat. Outstanding!! But you'll have to find out just how outstanding it is by reading my YELP for that establishment. Give White River your business. You will be helping preserve the past while providing memories for the future. Quick Tip: Having been built back in a time when people were more considerate, you may find that the walls are a might bit thin. These days, an unrestrained couple next door has the potential of keeping you entertained during the night, early morning, late morning, and if your stay includes it, early afternoon! I remember those days, and am not against being reminded of them from time to time. What the heck, they haven't planted me yet.

Tile is cracked, showers have permanent stains, carpet is old and a bit gross. -- Staff **** Despite unpleasant rooms, the staff was great. Personable, responsive. -- Cleanliness ** Clean, but dated and a tad gross. Obviously housekeeping does a good job with what they have, but this location desperately needs an update. -- Noise * Someone showed up late upstairs and let their horses run around on the floor, dropping several marble boulders in the process. Noise can be a one off, so I wouldn't place too much stock in this. We didn't complain to management that night, but did mention it on our way out in case they were staying a second night. -- Value ** Despite all that, this is a cheaper property at under $150 per night. -- Breakfast * Standard Hampton Inn fare. The waffle was okay, the eggs were overdone, but the selections were pretty standard. -- Overall ** If you don't care about dated rooms with impossible to clean details and are on a budget, but also like a safe place with breakfast included, this might be a good option.
