Affordable, only 25 minutes from Glenwood Springs. Comfortable beds, nice kitchenette and washer dryer in room. Really great stay!

That was really nice and convenient. There was a breakfast at the hotel. However if you are gluten free and/or vegan there is not anything there for you. But there was hot food available. Felt the hotel was plenty comfortable and modern. Was easy to get in and out of parking lot. Would come back if I were in the area again.

Tile is cracked, showers have permanent stains, carpet is old and a bit gross. -- Staff **** Despite unpleasant rooms, the staff was great. Personable, responsive. -- Cleanliness ** Clean, but dated and a tad gross. Obviously housekeeping does a good job with what they have, but this location desperately needs an update. -- Noise * Someone showed up late upstairs and let their horses run around on the floor, dropping several marble boulders in the process. Noise can be a one off, so I wouldn't place too much stock in this. We didn't complain to management that night, but did mention it on our way out in case they were staying a second night. -- Value ** Despite all that, this is a cheaper property at under $150 per night. -- Breakfast * Standard Hampton Inn fare. The waffle was okay, the eggs were overdone, but the selections were pretty standard. -- Overall ** If you don't care about dated rooms with impossible to clean details and are on a budget, but also like a safe place with breakfast included, this might be a good option.

When we arrived, the check-in woman said that Hotwire had allocated our room, which had a queen bed for three people, without a sofa bed. I said this wasn't appropriate for our group size, but her suggestion was that we call Hotwire and cancel the room. This just didn't make any sense. I asked if they could change our room, but she insisted this would be an upcharge of $50. Then I asked if there was a supervisor who could clear up this problem, although this woman also passed the buck to Hotwire. I assumed they must be full that night, but no, they weren't. They were just cheap, argumentative, and irrational. After haggling for way too long, the manager finally agreed to provide us a suitably-sized room, but "just this once." WTF? This was appalling customer service. I'll add that this is a dated Holiday Inn with run-down rooms and amenities, and without a working pool. (They didn't have any gluten free options at breakfast either, so why should we pay more to receive less?) Two stars for the serene view of the river, zero stars for the absolutely dreadful customer service.

The furnishing and lamp shades were badly worn and/or torn and there appeared to be something smeared on the wall as you entered the room. When my husband checked at the front desk about getting another room, the clerk initially said there wasn't anything available. When my husband started got irritated and mentioned how nasty the room was with other hotel guests nearby, the clerk mysteriously was able to find another room. The second room was slightly better, but this place is WAY overpriced for the condition it's in!

Perhaps the booking service failed to state he is a service dog. I am not sure of the reason, but I did cancel the reservation. Typically, when hotels do not accept pets, and you show up with a service dog they will sell you a room, but the attitude is there. Not saying the Gateway Lodge would have an attitude; however, I didn't want to push it as I plan on moving to the area.

The included breakfast was quite good for a budget hotel, with lots of hot choices including scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, potatoes, oatmeal, and fresh made waffles. There is hot water for tea, coffee, and fresh juices. The room itself was small and had good amenities including a refrigerator, TV, and a well constructed bathroom. Temperature is controlled via a rather loud wall mounted A/C unit. The only other option is opening windows. Unfortunately, I'd have to say that the floor was more comfortable to sleep on than the bed. It had a massive bowl/divot in the center which put me in a very awkward and painful position. I was unable to get to sleep until I moved to the floor. Given the increased prices and the poor condition of the beds, it's unlikely that I'll return in the future.

We checked in, got our maps and information and headed to our room that I actually recognize another Yelp Elite stayed at! Photos on Booking.com appeared bigger, the room was much smaller, but still cozy and spotless! Kitchen had basic necessities with coffee maker, a microwave, a sink, and small drawers. The bathroom was super adorable with a white mirror smiling back at us and the heater would operate every 15 mikes or so and warmed up our room. Although spotless, the "clean" smell was incredibly strong and we did prop open the windows. We were surrounded by lots of restaurants and town life. Our sole purpose was to visit the ice caves of Rifle and Western Star Inn was perfect, because this was just that place where we'd sleep and leave out the door early morning. Western Star Inn had breakfast all the way until 11:00am, that we took advantage of! It was mostly a continental breakfast style, filled with snacks and no drinks. We got hard boiled eggs, laughing cow cheese, apples, yogurt etc., and out the door we go for adventure. We did get a coupon for 15% off for the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool, and we also slept very comfortably in our beds. Overall a really pleasant stay. We got to make friends with Laura (or Lauren?) front desk reception and her husband. We thought their customer service was splendid. They just moved from Washington, which is another state I truly want to visit.

DISGUSTING PLACE! Zero stars!…read more We do a lot of road trips and have stayed in lots of hotels/motels. This is by far the worst. After a long day of driving, we arrived around 10:30pm. We were tired, and just wanted a place for one night. First they tried to put us in a room that had not been cleaned at all, the beds were not even made. Then they gave us another room. It was disgusting. Dead bugs on the window sill, on top of the heater, on the dresser. Urine and hair around the base of the toilet, hair in the tub, on the sink, and on the floor. The floor obviously had not been mopped in a long time. The towels were stained. It was late so we stayed, as they had no more rooms available and we didn't want to go looking for another place so late at night. Even the stairs were filthy and stained. We should have turned back then. The next morning, early, we talked to the manager and asked for a refund. He refused, since we had stayed the night. I explained the above. He didn't care. He even had the nerve to say, "You are probably used to 5 star hotels." No! We just wanted a clean room! I have never done a charge back on a place ever. But I refuse to pay for such a nasty place. We left early, because we both had trouble sleeping, due to the state of the room. It was just ick. Trust me, don't stay here. If we don't get our money back, I hope they lose way more business from people who are smart enough to run after reading this review.
