    Our cabin with fire pit!

Stayed here with a friend for a little weekend getaway and had a great time! Despite the late May snowstorm, we enjoyed a some of the outdoors but really just had fun hanging out in and around our cabin. The cabin was cozy and clean, with full kitchens so we could just bring up groceries and cook for the weekend! The cabin was warm even though it was below freezing outside, and it had a fire ring outside that we spent an entire afternoon around. The people in the lodge who run the bar/kitchen and the front desk were SO friendly and happy to answer our questions. I'm looking forward to coming back for another weekend getaway, it was a blast!

Had the best time here with our family. Staff was great. Scott and Conor went out of their way to make all of our needs were met. Can't wait to go back!

Had a nice stay at Grand Mesa Lodge for three nights at the end of July in Cabin 2. Some friends stayed in Cabins 4 and 6 at the same time as I did, so I got to see inside those cabins as well. Cabin 2 is definitely "cozy". Narrow staircase going up and need to be careful to not hit your head. There is a small bathroom for the toilet and an old shower, but the sink is outside the bathroom in the living area. There was a full size fridge, coffeemaker with filters, dish soap and dish towels. Because of Covid, they were requiring us to bring our own blankets, but they had pillows and sheets on the beds. Not the most comfy beds, but the sheets were very clean and smelled fresh. The towels were also clean and fresh, but my boyfriend didn't like that the bathroom towels were stored right by the toilet. Cabin 4 had an odd bathroom situation... There is no sink designated for the bathroom, so you have to wash your hands in the kitchen sink. There is a bed right in the middle of the living area, so you have to walk all the way around every time. However, this seemed to be the most updated of the three cabins I saw. Cabin 6 had a typical bathroom situation, with a bathtub. This was definitely the roomiest of the three cabins and had the largest cooking area. We decided to head out on the lake and rented a canoe and the rowboat. Tip: Do not go for the rowboat, even though it accommodates more people. It's a heavy metal rowboat that is incredibly hard to paddle. We didn't try the kayaks, but that probably would have been a better choice to just get a couple of those instead. The little store is very limited in groceries. Basically don't expect anything more than hot dogs and some buns meal-wise. Same with the restaurant... not much to choose from, but nice place to sit and have a snack or drink. So plan on taking advantage of the fact the cabins have fridges and bring up all the treats you want to enjoy while there. The kitchen is well stocked with all you need to cook and serve meals. There is a charcoal bbq outside too when fires are allowed. Overall it was a fun visit and I definitely recommend it if you are looking for a cabin vacation. Remember, it's at 10k elevation, so be prepared for that if you get elevation sickness!

My husband and I spent two nights at this lodge with our adult children and our 50 pound dog and had a great relaxing weekend. In cabin 12. The view is fabulous, the hosts are very friendly and the rustic cabins are just what we were looking for as a compromise between a hotel and a campground. They have recently remodeled their lodge and it has a full service bar with snacks, mini mart with gift shop and a back balcony that has a great view of Island Laka.

This place is amazing! The owners are super nice people. The cabins are rustic but comfortable and have everything you need. We had a great time snowshoeing, cross country skiing, sledding and snowmobiling. There was so much snow, it was pretty incredible. The lodge practices good Covid precautions, everyone was masked, tables blocked off and spaced apart. We felt comfortable grabbing a couple of drinks at the lodge while we waited to take our food Togo. Really good homemade pizzas. We will definitely be back!

I moved here from Texas and once I discovered Grand Mesa Lodge, I was hooked and each year I make a point to stay there. The people that work there are so friendly and make me feel at home. The views and activities are spectacular. Me and my son love it!

We stayed in cabin number 13. It their smallest cabin, but what a good time we had. Being unfamiliar with gas stoves and heaters, I had to get a lesson from Mike the owner, but after that it was a whole lot of fun. It has a queen bed, full kitchen with full sized refrigerator and a shower bathroom. The covered porch came in handy when we had a very short rain shower. The lake is about a 100 yard walk away, but the cabin had a good view of it. It has a fire pit and a Webber grill. We even cancelled reservations in Grand Junction so we could cook all our meals there. What a relaxing 3 night stay.

Their children are very respectful and I loved having them around. I stayed in a suite which was the absolute best accommodations I have ever stayed in. I had my own deck to watch the beautiful stars in the morning and my own bathroom with a shower you can fit ten people in and a tub to soak in after the long day of hunting. The food: They say on the website there is a five star chef. It is Jeremy's wife who cooks all the food and it was more than five star in my personal opinion. She noticed I loved fruit so every meal there was fruit for me. Which is above and beyond. The hunting experience : It was EXCEPTIONAL. The guides we had were very knowledgeable and went above and beyond to make sure we were seeing elk every single day. Jeremy (the owner) who is a true hunter, not just a "resort owner" was out every day glassing to find where the elk were at. He has 12 miles of land so where the elk were at, we were at. We had no issues going to the same "sweet spots" because that means that's where the elk are at. Overall, we will be coming back. They are an exceptional family with a beautiful lodge and amazing hunting ground. It is not a spot that elk will migrate through, it is a place that they stay because of all the abundant resources Jeremy has ensured the land will have for the animals. You won't find a better hunting resort to stay at!

We were told that Crossing Creek's success rate was 100% for the 1st rifle season in 2017 and a high success rate overall. We booked the 1st rifle season for 2018. What we missed was 2017 was Crossing Creek's first year in business. The Lodge. The enormous beautiful hunting Lodge is not a Lodge; it's actually the owner's Home complete with 2 wonderful young boys. Surprise! All business is conducted at one wing of the Home where the kitchen and dining room are located. It is also the same wing in which the owners live. Starting at 4:30-5am when the hunters join for a quick snack while waiting for the Guides to arrive, who leave their diesel engines running just outside this wing, then business ends at midnight after dinner, countless cocktails and loud endless stores. I mention this because one of the owners rebuked me the second morning for making too much noise and waking one the boys. I believe this incident is the reason the owner two days later flew a drone mounted with high intensity LED lights that were shining inside my second story windows at 4am. It was HARASSMENT as well as childishness. Whatever the owner's reason was, it's no way to treat a paying customer. For the doubting Thomas's, there are no outside security lights. Certainly not one that is 10 feet away facing into a South facing window then moves to an East facing window then laterally passes the bathroom window in another room. I was harassed. I was totally blindsided and now doubt the owner's integrity. It was a childish and resentful attack. Entering the Lodge (Home) there is a small 6' long bench. Hunters lack sufficient space and storage for hunting gear and rifles. Hunting gear/clothing/boots lie about like any other man cave however this is a Home and you must be mindful of that. Five unchecked rifles were left lying around on the floor or leaning against one corner. I consider this a safety hazard for a Home or any Lodge especially one with children. A solution would be to build an outside heated changing and storage room. The Range. Sitting in the mud is an old saggy 6' folding table along with older chairs. In the field was a cardboard box with Sharpie circles for a target. I've used worse but at top dollar I expect better such as a concrete shooting table, chairs and official targets down range. Improvement is needed. The Guides. There were three Guides. A bonus since it was booked 2 hunters to 1 guide. Two of them were around 25+ y/o with extensive Elk hunting experience. The third, older, Guide had extensive hunting experience but not with Elk. All three lacked any years of experience as Guides and for sure it was one Guide's first year, first week even. It was also clear the Guides had one week of experience on the property. They had lots to learn at our expense. One Guide brought his girlfriend with him for an early afternoon hunt. One hundred percent of his time was focused on his girlfriend and he totally neglected the three hunters. We were not his priority. Later that cold night returning from the mountain top we loaded into an old Jeep Cherokee for the 4 mile bumpy ride home. One of the older hunters and my partner, 63, had to ride in the rear with the spare tire and hunting gear while the Guides girlfriend sat up front with the heater on full blast. We lost 1/2 a day of hunting and basically paid for the Guide to spend time with his girlfriend. The Hunting. There is 12 miles of property bordered by National Forest and BLM land. Of the 12 miles we only hunted in two small areas, the highest point of the property facing the Nat'l Forest and the lowest point facing BLM land. All the rest of the property was under development and not hunted. While the owner and Guides did work hard for our success only one of five hunters harvested an Elk or 20% success rate. The Guides were not allowed to cross the boundaries of the property. Had we shot an Elk in the Forest or BLM I was left with the impression we had to haul it out. That's what Guides get paid to do. The Food. While the website leads you to believe a 5 star chef is cooking your meals this was not the case for hunters, wedding only maybe. One of the owners and a Guides wife prepared the meals. They did an excellent job and the service was superb. Summary. We paid top dollar for this hunt. What we got was a bed in a fancy house, good food, an owner who wanted us to be successful and worked hard towards that end, inexperienced Guides experienced hunters, a property that is under development and not ready for prime time hunting and finally personal harassment. This place has great hunting potential. If you must go, go in 5 years.

We got the Monarch pass this year, which allows us three days at Sunlight. The mountain is pretty small, only 3 lifts I think, but it's a nice small-town family vibe. The prices are great too - $99 for weekend lift pass and something like $49 for weekday? Some of the runs were very skied out though and we had to be cautious of rocks/trees popping out - they did a good job with caution signs to alert for obstacles on the trails. There was a small lodge at the base with food and drinks which was very affordable as ski resorts go - $5 fry basket and $8 beers on draft! Would do another weekend here.

We arrived on a big snow day, and there were lines at the lifts. However, I have been to more crowded resorts in California where I live, so I thought the lines were ok. They moved fast but the lifts stopped often because of people falling off at the start or end. And about the lift, they move fast at the start and end. So be ready. They can be challenging for beginners. Hold on tight because they do swing you around quite violently at the start and I almost slipped off because there was a sheet of ice on the first lift we took and the swinging was quite vigorous. I disliked them a lot. The snow was great. There aren't that many green runs but the greens were fun with varied terrain, which were a good challenge. We did one of the blue runs which was pretty challenging for my party. The green runs had really great views especially those from the top of the mountain. We didn't have lessons but we saw many people lined up for lessons. We stayed for 2 days. But if we had stayed for 3 we might have gotten bored due to the limited number of green runs. Only one restaurant, so bring your own food if you don't want to wait to order, then wait for your food. There are lockers available which you rent via a kiosk. There's a QR code but it doesn't work. They are quite expensive: $10 for a small one that fits one backpack and $15 for a large on that fits 2 backpacks. We fit 5 winter/hiking boots in them, with space to spare for water bottles, sweaters, beanies etc. We saw lots of folks leave their stuff under benches, along the walls too. I think the restroom situation was fine as well. Didn't have to wait that long for restrooms. In fact, most of the time I didn't have to wait. There is a restroom right at the top of the mountain too. If you want skis, you can rent them at the resort, or at their shop in downtown Glenwood Springs. We opted to rent from the shop in downtown. There will be a separate review on the ski rental from their shop. Second, about getting there. You can drive. Or, you can take the shuttle which leaves from selected hotels in the area. As well as from the downtown Sunlight Ski and Bike Shop location at 8:30 and they will do more runs if there are more people needing it. Pick up is at 2:30 and 4:30 but they will add another one at 3:30 if it is a busy day. There's space for your skis and boots and poles etc. The shuttle drivers are amazing. They dropped us off at our hotel even though it's not "on the scheduled list". But they can pretty much pick you up and drop you off anywhere in and around Glenwood Springs. For this season they are free but they are working to get a system which you use your ski tickets to tap in from. Forget about Uber/Lyft. They don't exist here. And the only other taxi operator is apparently very expensive. Much better way to get up the mountain than driving after a snowstorm. We saw a car flipped over on the way up... If you do drive, there is a shuttle that takes people to the lower parking lot so you don't have to trek down. We had a great time at Sunlight Mountain. It may not have the most modern amenities nor the best runs, but the people were really friendly and helpful and it's not a complicated resort. The other plus is the ski shuttle which really made it much more convenient to get around with our skis. While I note that skiing is an expensive activity, Sunlight Mountain has really good pricing. Even better than my local California resorts and the snow is better. But due to the limited number of green runs and older ski lifts, I took one star off.

I guess my purpose of never going in was that we came in on the other side of the mountain (Off of McClure Pass), and never really ventured into the "Hubbard Park" area. We always had our big wall tents, wood burning stoves, and food for the week. So I guess we never really needed to venture that way. Let me tell you we were MISSING OUT on something amazing. I ended up venturing over into that area due to the dry season, high temperatures, and the sparse amount of elk in the area that I am usually in. I got a tip from someone about a place in Hubbard Park so decided to go check it out! First the spot was amazing, and was what I hunted for the rest of the season. However, after my first night scouting the area I decided to stop in for a beer and a meal at electric lodge. First, The staff is amazing! From the back kitchen staff, the bartenders, the waitress's, the bar backs, etc! You all rock! Super friendly, great to talk too, funny to be around (I love sarcasm and they could all read that). The place was clean, warm, and rustic truly made my hunting trip feel even more amazing. The food was great (Only criticism is a little pricey, but hey supply and demand so no complaints). The beer was cold and in a clean glass so no complaints there (Also reasonably priced). The next night I ended up bringing my whole hunting crew over for dinner and some beers after our evening hunt. They all enjoyed it and we had probably some of the best brisket and smoked sausages I have had in a long long time. We all talked about looking in one year of just staying at the lodge instead of setting up our camp. It wont be an every year stay, but worth looking into every few years. However, even if we set up our own camp you can sure as heck no that we will be stopping in for at least one night each year. Great work Electric Lodge! Great work Electric Lodge Staff! This is my new hidden gem that I can't wait to tell people about!
