I will forever be grateful for the kindness and compassion of the staff at VEG in Fresh Pond. Our 8-year-old dog, Maggie, suddenly got sick in June 2025, and needed emergency surgery. We were allowed to stay with our dog throughout all the testing, and we could visit anytime, day or night, while she recovered. They have an amazing group of professionals and all the most advanced equipment and testing available. Sadly, the biopsy revealed an aggressive cancer. She came home, but ultimately it was not survivable. The staff at VEG was the most incredible team of people I have ever witnessed. They offered comfort while our hearts were breaking. These amazing vets and techs and support staff witness the most tragic and traumatic situations, and they carry people through it with such grace. They are heroes. The availability of a 24-hour clinic that feels like a family of people who truly care is a bit of a miracle. I cannot thank them enough.

My dog was attacked by another dog while on a walk. We called here and they said we could bring her in. There was no wait. We were there for a few hours, and they were absolutely wonderful. We were there with my five year old, and they had coloring books, snacks, and juice boxes! The bathroom was also the cleanest bathroom I have ever seen, and they have hand towels to use in addition to the air dry fan(5 year old thinks air dry fans are way too loud!). They are inclusive based on the flags they have decorating the place. What a great place to have during a stressful and anxious situation.

If you are looking for a professional, kind, thorough and extremely organized staff and experience, then you've come to the right place. I have had pets all my life, lived in other countries and various states in the US and when I say that Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) is THE BEST emergency care and experience I have ever had, that's an understatement. A shout out to the fabulous staff/team that helped my dog Bogart - Dr. Max, Anna the outstanding receptionist, and the techs - JJ & Danny Leveroni. Bogart and my family appreciate all of you!

Dexter when he started to turn the corner.

I cannot say enough good things about the VEG vets, staff and environment. They recently saved my dog's life from a severe bout of pancreatitis (along with other autoimmune type symptoms). They were so competent and so kind. Both to my dog and to me. I am so grateful for their care and knowing they are close by when needed.

On 1/2/2025 my nearly 15 year old maltipoo Django had been suffering all day and couldn't hold anything down, his legs gave out and we knew that his end was near. We made an appointment for the vet to come to our house but due to the holidays we couldn't get an appointment for 2 days. My husband and I brought our beloved pup to bed, he was suffering so much that we took him at 12:30 am to VEG to be ushered over the rainbow bridge. Django never liked going to the vet so we had always agreed when the time comes we'll have the vet come to the house. Well sometimes you can't control the end so we wrapped him up in a cozy blanket and brought him to VEG. Due to it being so late the place was empty. We were gently greeted by staff who by looking at our grief stricken faces, knew exactly why we were there. We told them Django's age and symptoms and they took us to the treatment room. I asked if I could lower the lights and they immediately did, creating a less clinic atmosphere. They let us hug and pat and whisper in Djangos ears all the while being so kind and respectful to our grieving process. Dr. Kim was the vet and he couldn't have been more gentle with Django and empathic towards us. Darius was the tech who did paperwork and brought us a second tissue box all the while being nurturing and respectful. There was another person who shaved Django who was also amazingly kind. The whole time we got to be present and my daughter, husband and I gently laid hands on Django while the medicine went in. Dr Kim then checked Django's heart rate 3 times to be sure he passed. They gave us alone time, never rushing our final moments with our most amazing dog and best little buddy. We will be forever grateful to VEG for making one of the saddest days of our lives tolerable

My last visit would sadly be my last as my family made the difficult and painful decision to put him down. Its taken me a little over a week to write something but I know I wanted to tell everyone about this location. Numerous issues, including a cancer diagnosis, coupled with his old age after a surgery at his home vet. The staff were always so sweet and caring with him. They even managed to entertain him with some classical music when he was a little yappy! He lived a long, happy spoiled life. I miss him everyday. My first pet out of high school, we were almost never apart. I think that knowing he was in the best possible hands near the end helped take some of my guilt grief away. Every single person was amazing and I just know that profession cannot be easy. God, my sister and I cried for hours and we were never rushed. Dr.Silverstone, thank you for always being straight with us but also extremely professional and kind. They contract out to help with end of life arrangements and cremation, if you choose. 'epaws' or something. The arrangements were done quickly but not so quickly that you worry about disrespect, you know? A week later and I have his urn and we've set up a memorial in the house for him. No one wants to think about these things but pricing is transparent and gotten out of the way quickly. And yes, it's pricy but what isn't? This is emergency care. Get pet insurance!!!! Honestly, I would have gone bankrupt if it helped but there is unfortunately a limit to things that can be treated and the doctor said it best: "age is not a disease". So hopefully your fur babies live long, happy lives and that you only have to go for minor inconveniences but if you do have an emergency, this location was clean, professional and fairly easy to get to. I had broken my ankle last year so walking has been a challenge but I got around just fine, even carrying around my 20lb lump of love. Thank you all again. I don't know when I'll be ready for another pet but I don't regret all the years of love. Once time has softened the pain, and years go by, I hope you all stick around and do what you ALL have done so well and maybe I'll see you again...Hopefully under better circumstances. Wishing you all love and peace and kindness.

Initially we thought the bird was dead, but it wasn't. However, it was very lethargic. We tried to provide it some heat and thought it might be a good idea to bring it to Boston commons. On our way there, we stumbled upon VEG ER for pets which was open 24 hours and had images of birds and other animals displaying on their TV (it can be care to find vets that care for avians). They let us in, we explained the situation, and they gave us two fair options - let the vet check it out and if they determine there is little hope for recovery, ethically euthanize it, or, if it does show signs of recovery after 30 min - 1 hr, they'd bring it to Boston Commons. We didn't have time to stick around for the final decision, but I do hope it did recover. The staff there was really friendly, thanked us for being good Samaritans, and had us fill out a form. They also did offer us complimentary snacks and beverages. I was satisfied with my unexpected visit here.

He saved my life many times over, I adopted him when I was still active duty in the Marine Corps. The last few months were tough, I'd equate it to hospice for a dog. I dreaded making the decision, and I came close at least 6 times but every time I said give it one more day he would bounce back, go for a walk, do his business, eat, drink, ask for treats. This morning I woke up and I felt something was different. He wasn't moving well, he didn't finish his food, and then his head was stuck turning to the left at almost a 90 degree angle and he fell on the floor like that. I picked him up and laid him down on his other side on my lap hoping he just had a bad cramp, but after an hour I tried putting him down in front of his water and he collapsed. I held him for another 30 minutes and then he had an intense seizure for at least a minute, his whole body was tensed and stretched out, and his mouth was wide open gasping for air. He came through the seizure but he had no strength in any of his legs - even at his worst in the months prior when he bounced back he could at least support himself on his front legs, but he had no strength and his breaths were long and slow. I dreaded making this decision, but I couldn't allow him to suffer. I called a few vets in the area and no one could take us. One of the last vets I called recommended I reach out to VEG. I called them, they said they could help. I walked in and was immediately brought into a private room with my dog. The receptionist, the nurses, and the doctor were so comforting during one of the hardest times of my life. I'm going to bed tonight without my best friend for the first time in 16 years, but the compassion that the staff shared with me knowing it had to happen was above and beyond. I don't know if I'll ever have another dog, but if I do this would be my go to veterinarian for any issues. And I hope no one has to make the decision for your animal, but if you do, I give the VEG staff the highest recommendation I possibly could. She was cold, condescending, and completely dismissive, presenting every decision as if it were hers alone and speaking down to us rather than guiding or consulting us as the pet's family. There was no compassion, no kindness, and no sense of understanding during one of the most terrifying moments of our lives with a very sick dog. Her explanations were nonstop, filled with complex medical jargon, as if she's reading from a clinical textbook and offered no pause for questions or clarification. We were left so frustrated and distrusting that we had to use ChatGPT on-site just to research possible causes and try to understand what might be happening -- something no pet owner should ever have to do while in an emergency veterinary clinic. Adding insult to injury, the prices were outrageously high, completely disproportionate to the level of care, communication, or thoughtful evaluation we received. The interaction felt rushed, transactional, and almost robotic, prioritizing speed and cost over empathy or genuine concern for our pet's wellbeing. Additionally, it looks like she recently graduated from vet school yet she was the only vet on staff when she was there. Worse, reading other reviews on both Yelp and Google Reviews revealed a clear pattern: multiple pet owners describe the same condescending, intimidating, and confusing behavior from this particular veterinarian, with alarming recommendations delivered abruptly, leaving families feeling pressured, unheard, and unsupported. This is not an isolated incident -- it is a repeated pattern of behavior. Pet owners deserve honesty, clear explanations, and true compassion when their pets' lives are on the line. Dr. Schwartz fails on all counts, treating owners like they have no voice and prioritizing her own authority over guidance, empathy, or care. Warning to all pet owners: avoid this practice if you value compassion, trust, 2 way communication, and the wellbeing of your pet.

Her veins had collapsed so my literally had to tell her where to place the needle. All of a sudden I heard this gushing sound and screamed "what was that??" Fortunately my friend warned me not to look. There was so much liquid released that she had to borrow scrubs and her sweater was ruined. It was absolutely traumatizing. When I left the treatment area they asked me if I wanted to take home the carrier. I don't know exactly what I said but it wasn't nice. Nobody told me what the hell was going on. I had been there only 4 weeks earlier and was simply told "you have a very sick kitty." And then, when I trusted them to help us through her final moments, they failed. I called a few days letter and cried as I explained what happened. The woman (manager?) was not very empathetic and made excuses for what happened but at least she refunded me the cost. I wish that I had the positive experience that others who have reviewed this had. The image of her sick, skinny little body wrapped in a towel with that stuff coming out of her nose and mouth is forever etched in my brain. I am working hard to replace that memory with a happy one but it is really hard. This should never happen to any pet mom again.
