We brought Mia to VEG ER in Peabody last night to treat a wound she got after escaping the yard and going on a little adventure of her own. From the moment we walked through the door, we felt heard, cared for, and completely confident that Mia was in the best hands. Mia is not an easy patient. She has become increasingly difficult to manage at the vet, so bringing her in can be extremely stressful. But from the technicians to the doctor, we never once felt like we were an inconvenience or that Mia was "too much." They did everything possible to make her comfortable and make the experience as stress-free as possible. The technician we had, I believe her name was Robyn, was absolutely incredible. She explained everything in detail, answered every question we had, and walked us through every step of Mia's care. She treated Mia like she was her own, and that compassion meant more to us than I can put into words. The ER was extremely busy while we were there, with animals coming in constantly. They were completely upfront about the wait times and explained that because Mia was stable, other emergencies would need to be prioritized. We completely understood. We were there from approximately 12:30 AM to 5:30 AM, and despite the long night, we never felt forgotten or left wondering what was happening. In fact, we never had to ask for anything. The technicians anticipated our needs, checked on us, and made us feel completely at home. I also have to mention how exceptionally clean the facility was. I watched throughout the entire five hours as pets left, and the staff immediately removed bedding, wiped down couches and surfaces, and mopped the areas. They were constantly cleaning and maintaining the space. For an emergency veterinary hospital that was as busy as it was, I was genuinely impressed by how pristine everything was. I never feel compelled to write reviews, whether an experience is good or bad, but this was different. Having a sick or injured pet is already incredibly stressful, and the compassion and care we received last night made such a difficult situation so much easier. Exceptional care, incredible technicians, a wonderful doctor, and a team that genuinely cares. We are so grateful to everyone at VEG ER Peabody for taking such good care of our Mia. This clinic is an excellent option very clear communication, they go above and beyond with giving our dog a bed to lay on while they wait , snacks for two legged people too ! It is an open concept that allows you to remain with your dog at all times. It was a pleasure to see such caring staff. We love the VEG in Newton and have used it several times. They are always quick kind and efficient. The Peabody location was the exact opposite, no one cared when we walked in, we filled out paperwork ahead of time, did not speed up the process. Had my cat sitting in her own urine for 60 minutes before being triaged then we were told that they would be right back in. 75 minutes later nothing had happened, our cat began to perk up so we felt comfortable leaving to transport her somewhere else. Don't know if it's because they are new but it was horrible and we saw 3-4 other pets waiting, in their own urine and blood. Not cool at all VEG Peabody. I will only go to Newton again from now on. read more

We called in ten minutes before arriving and were told there was no wait. When we got into the clinic, we were told at check in that it would take an hour, but 1.5 hours max. We ended up spending over 2.5 hours there. There wasn't a proper place to check in and no waiting room. We were offered a room with our cat, and they would take her out for any exams that needed to be done and bring her back to us in the meantime. The doctor and vet techs were friendly and nice, but they seemed very disorganized. Our cat needed to get a urine and blood analysis, and they forgot to take her urine sample, even though they shaved both her legs seemingly to take urine. Waiting for the forgotten urine test ended up keeping us there for an extra 45 minutes. After we were debriefed and after all the tests/medications were administered, we still had to wait a while for anyone to come discharge us. The practice manager for VEG came in at the very end of our time there to ask us to please rate them on Yelp. She didn't ask us what our experience was like then and there while with us, but handed us two different flyers asking for ratings, which felt tacky. We were told that it was highly unlikely that our cat had a UTI. We were told it was an option to have her urine cultured, but that it seemed to be unnecessary, so we decided to not go with it, as the doctor did not state it was recommended. However, after our cat continued to feel unwell, we took her to her usual vet and they confirmed there was in fact a UTI present. Overall, the practice just seemed very disorganized which led to unnecessary waiting around. read more

The Veg ER team in Peabody is top notch. We have been a few times and always leave with our pups doing better. The other night our pup visited late due to pain from a dental visit earlier that day. The team gave her better meds and she was able to sleep and is now on the mend. read more

Louie really appreciated the blanket you gave him and how patient and gentle you were with him. As for me, I really loved how well you explained his injury and eye condition to me and my parents and for helping me figure out how to successfully give Louie his medications. I made one of the hardest decisions of my life today. I adopted my dog from a shelter in Southern California on March 10th, 2010 and they estimated he was 1-2 years old at the time. He saved my life many times over, I adopted him when I was still active duty in the Marine Corps. The last few months were tough, I'd equate it to hospice for a dog. I dreaded making the decision, and I came close at least 6 times but every time I said give it one more day he would bounce back, go for a walk, do his business, eat, drink, ask for treats. This morning I woke up and I felt something was different. He wasn't moving well, he didn't finish his food, and then his head was stuck turning to the left at almost a 90 degree angle and he fell on the floor like that. I picked him up and laid him down on his other side on my lap hoping he just had a bad cramp, but after an hour I tried putting him down in front of his water and he collapsed. I held him for another 30 minutes and then he had an intense seizure for at least a minute, his whole body was tensed and stretched out, and his mouth was wide open gasping for air. He came through the seizure but he had no strength in any of his legs - even at his worst in the months prior when he bounced back he could at least support himself on his front legs, but he had no strength and his breaths were long and slow. I dreaded making this decision, but I couldn't allow him to suffer. I called a few vets in the area and no one could take us. One of the last vets I called recommended I reach out to VEG. I called them, they said they could help. I walked in and was immediately brought into a private room with my dog. The receptionist, the nurses, and the doctor were so comforting during one of the hardest times of my life. I'm going to bed tonight without my best friend for the first time in 16 years, but the compassion that the staff shared with me knowing it had to happen was above and beyond. I don't know if I'll ever have another dog, but if I do this would be my go to veterinarian for any issues. And I hope no one has to make the decision for your animal, but if you do, I give the VEG staff the highest recommendation I possibly could. Earlier this month we had to bring our senior cat in during the middle of the night. It was our first time visiting VEG ER and everybody from the person that let us in, to the tech who triaged our cat to the amazing vet doctors we dealt with were wonderful. They are like any human ER where the most urgent patients are seen first and they were very upfront with what the possible wait time could be. The facility was extremely clean and the staff made it as comfortable as possible. There were waters, sodas and snacks available free of charge. We hope to never experience another emergency, however, in the event we do we will definitely come back to VEG ER! I highly recommend them. read more

On November 28, 2025 at 7am, I was in a panic. My mom and I had our cat of almost 17 years decline rapidly on Thanksgiving Day. After being up all night with him, we made the decision to call VEG ER. I was advised to just get him in when I could by an amazing Vet. Once there, both staff and I knew that it was time to say goodbye to our Diesel. In my life, at both human and animal hospitals alike, I have NEVER encountered such a compassionate and understanding group of people. I just got home from VEG and couldn't have felt more supported by the team caring for my cat, Batman. I called ahead and the team opened the doors for me as I brought my cat in and he was evaluated by the vet, Dr. Helstein, immediately. I was an emotional wreck during the entire encounter and the team continuously made me feel like my cat was in the best hands which also calmed me down. They explained everything in great detail, took time to answer my questions and one of the staff (Fran?) even carried my cat and his carrier to my car for me upon discharge when I mentioned that I was in pain from a current sciatica flare up. Our family cat Bobbi which was acquired for my daughter as an emotional support animal had swallowed a toy. Getting support on a weekend was extremely difficult. Tried a variety of other establishments and the results were bleak. VEG is really a 24/7 establishment. They were great over the phone and after arriving we discovered they have a very professional and accommodating Staff. Highly recommend them for any pet emergency. They are upfront and honest. My cat unexpectedly became ill. My sister told me to go to this ER as she had used them for her dogs. This place was so good,they met me in parking lot to get my cat in fast.They worked fast to evaluate and comfort my cat. They explained everything they were doing.
