I had to bring my sweet girl Darla to veg for CHF on December 23rd. I had to make the heartbreaking decision to let her go on the 24th. The staff at VEG especially Dr Ritz, Brittany and Sarah made our time with them special. They were loving, caring and compassionate. I stayed with Darla the whole time and when they knew I needed rest after being up for 20 hours, they made a bed for me close by. I will forever be grateful for the care and love they gave my sweet girl. Thank you VEG. I left a piece of my heart with you on Christmas Eve.

Sweet Maureen

At the stroke of midnight my sweet Maureen kitty had been crying all evening. Though VEG was an hour away I had to go . I preregistered on line making the process easier. Being handicapped myself , the staff helped me get Maureen in to the hospital. Though she had to be euthanized the Dr and staff were compassionate and caring. It made my bad day a bit better. Thank you so much.

I have loved you for your whole life, and I'll miss you the rest of mine. Kobie *3/29/09-2/22/25*

I had to bring my 15 year old dachshund here for euthanasia. He was very sick and I couldn't stand to see him suffer any longer. We walked right in and we were immediately brought back to a private room. It was more of a home-like setting, with two couches, candles, and tissues, which I appreciated. There were also dog treats, and Hershey kisses on the counter. :( Unfortunately my dog had stopped eating a few days prior to this, so he wasn't able to enjoy a chocolate kiss before going to heaven. He was very anxious and barking, so he was given a sedative to calm him down prior to the procedure. We waited 10-15 minutes for the sedative to take effect, and he continued to be anxious and bark. He had to be given a second dose which it seemed like we waited forever to be brought in by the nurse. I thought we would be in and out for this procedure, but because the first sedative was ineffective, we were there much longer than I anticipated which I didn't like. I just wanted to end his suffering and it seems like this was dragged out way longer than it should have been. I am very grateful for the VEG team. My little guy is no longer in pain, although my heart is shattered by his loss. Kobie, you will be loved for all eternity. *3/29/2009 - 2/22/2025*

the remote eater!!

I had to take my puppy Greta to VEG after she destroyed my tv remote and the batteries were missing... I was incredibly unsure whether or not she ate them, and of course was panicking hardcore. We rushed to VEG, and they got us checked in very fast. They came and took Greta's vitals, and I spoke with the vet very shortly after we arrived. They did x-rays on Greta's tummy, and found NO BATTERIES anywhere in her system (thank God!!!). I am so thankful for the amount of compassion, kindness and support that Greta and myself were shown while we were at VEG. I would absolutely recommend them for any emergencies your pet might have, they took such excellent care of Greta. I want to extend a huge thank you on Greta and I's behalf to Dr. Wagner and the techs that helped us that night. Thank you so much for EVERYTHING!!

Of course, I am not an RX tech, but her whole digestive system is full of sh***t so. She is feeling better, and my account is dollars low!

Things to know..... this is a very small office and the doctor works alone with the help of the vet techs - they are NOT an ER (and will tell you so) so if you are not already a patient and your pet is having an emergency you should go to an emergency hospital. If you expect an office run like a brand new vet center you won't find it here but what you will find is the great vet service, at reasonable prices, and care like you may have experienced from vet back in the day. This team of folks goes above and beyond for their patients and it is why many of the people that bring their pets here have been returning time after time for 20+ years.

Dr. Nick is so caring, patient, and understanding. Often he's returning calls until 8pm and has given his personal cell phone number if there are any issues post sedation, regardless of procedure. From tumor removal surgery to dental cleaning he calls to check on our pets. He will also ask about how my parents are doing and their pets when I go for a visit with mine. Colleen is fantastic with grooming. My long haired cats would get shaved in the summer so they were more comfortable and she always made them look so adorable and smell so nice. She's also so kind and compassionate, plus prompt with returning calls. If there is a specialized surgery Dr. Nick can't do, he has always referred me to excellent surgeons. For end of life issues, the staff are above and beyond caring and loving. This doctor truly seems to love his work and it will be such a loss whenever he does retire. Comparable rates, prompt response, varied services, excellent care. If you want an excellent veterinarian, Dr. Nick Kotsopolous at The Route 20 Animal Clinic is the one to see.

From the moment we called ahead to say we were on our way, the staff were incredibly responsive and ready for us when we arrived. They quickly assessed the situation, diagnosed the issue, and carried out the necessary procedures. The clinic itself was very clean, welcoming, and well equipped. Dr. Estes explained everything clearly--what was happening, the prognosis, and what we should do next. The techs / nurses--Kim Nguyen, Kendra Baker, and Jennifer Ducharme--were also wonderful: professional, patient, and very caring. They were attentive throughout the entire process while our Pomeranian was undergoing sedation, and you could tell they genuinely cared. I'm sure they see situations like this every day, but they still treated our dog with the attention and care he needed. Small things like that matter. These are clearly very capable people who could work in many different fields--including human medicine--but they choose to care for pets, and it shows. I would absolutely recommend this clinic and would return again if needed. My one tip: call ahead so they can prepare for your arrival.

She needed immediate care, and many places were closed by that time. It was about 9pm, luckily VEG ER was open, we called and brought our hamster 15 minutes later. They immediately jumped into action checking her symptoms and seeing whatever they could do to help her. Eventually, we were told that she had Urinary Tract Infection, we were offered a few solutions, but one of the main veterinarians who was helping, gently told us the likely outcome. We were able to say goodbye to the hamster, and my daughter got to hold her up to almost the end. They led us into a room so that my daughter and I could discuss next steps, they gave us time and they were very understanding. When we received our pet in her urn, we also received a handwritten card with the signatures of all the VEG ER employees who were telling us that they were sorry for our loss. It was a very sentimental time, and we appreciate everything that VEG ER did for us. If anything every happens to your pet, I recommend VEG ER because of their kindness, also, they are open 24/7 so there is always someone there to help you and your beloved companion.

He saved my life many times over, I adopted him when I was still active duty in the Marine Corps. The last few months were tough, I'd equate it to hospice for a dog. I dreaded making the decision, and I came close at least 6 times but every time I said give it one more day he would bounce back, go for a walk, do his business, eat, drink, ask for treats. This morning I woke up and I felt something was different. He wasn't moving well, he didn't finish his food, and then his head was stuck turning to the left at almost a 90 degree angle and he fell on the floor like that. I picked him up and laid him down on his other side on my lap hoping he just had a bad cramp, but after an hour I tried putting him down in front of his water and he collapsed. I held him for another 30 minutes and then he had an intense seizure for at least a minute, his whole body was tensed and stretched out, and his mouth was wide open gasping for air. He came through the seizure but he had no strength in any of his legs - even at his worst in the months prior when he bounced back he could at least support himself on his front legs, but he had no strength and his breaths were long and slow. I dreaded making this decision, but I couldn't allow him to suffer. I called a few vets in the area and no one could take us. One of the last vets I called recommended I reach out to VEG. I called them, they said they could help. I walked in and was immediately brought into a private room with my dog. The receptionist, the nurses, and the doctor were so comforting during one of the hardest times of my life. I'm going to bed tonight without my best friend for the first time in 16 years, but the compassion that the staff shared with me knowing it had to happen was above and beyond. I don't know if I'll ever have another dog, but if I do this would be my go to veterinarian for any issues. And I hope no one has to make the decision for your animal, but if you do, I give the VEG staff the highest recommendation I possibly could. Thank you and your team for your compassion on one of the worst days of my life. God bless you all.

They said everything went fine and we opted to keep him under their care for an additional night because we had a puppy at home who would have jumped all over him during his recovery. After having our dog stay an extra night (3 nights total, and pay of course) they call us to pick him up. When they tech brought him out to the exam room and put him on the table he was dripping blood from his incision right onto the table (we were in shock). The tech didn't notice so I pointed it out and she brought him to the back. Our dog was traumatized by seeing us for the first time after 4 days and being pulled away again. A short time later a vet came in and said his incision popped open and they would have to cut him open again and do an incision revision. She went on to tell us how it was going to cost another couple thousand dollars! The dog has never left their care (we never even touched him!). My wife and I were beside ourselves - first off for our dog being cut open again and the arrogance of the Vet saying it wasn't their fault. Well, it was - and one of the senior surgeons admitted it. He said they should not have "glued" my dog's stomach after the surgery, but instead used real stitches, which he did the second time cutting him open. He apologized and said we shouldn't be charged for their error. Well come to find out 2 years later my wife gets popped with a collections account on her credit report for the $2,000+ they charged for their mistake WITHOUT TELLING US! Absolutely awful. This hospital is PREDATORY. The Vets at this hospital work off a COMMISSION FOR SERVICES SOLD (I've researched past court cases and verified). BEWARE FOR YOUR PET'S SAFETY AND FRAUD. Go to Tufts. BEWARE - do not bring your pet here. My dog (6 y.o. rescue…read moremix - very healthy, luckily!) had a non-complicated ear laceration surgery at Tolland location, having come out of it with 2(!!) superbly antibiotics resistant nasty bacterias in her - Pseudomonas Aeruginosa and Staphylococcus Epidirmidis. Both are common hospital infections, and the former can live on surfaces (even dry!) for 4 years - so, be cautious! My dog had not been exposed to any other unusual environment or change in routine, except this surgery. I have two other dogs, who are constantly together and have no signs of these infections. The only uncommon thing that happened was - this surgery. If this bacteria is bread in un-/under-sanitary surgical room or hospital (with all facts present - this is the only highly likely source of infection), it's extremely difficult for them to eradicate. ...so, here we are $2k+ and counting! Here is the rest of facts: They took a week (!) to run lab/test results for Pseudomonas A., which is susceptible (conveniently) to only 1 recommended antibiotic that get administered every 4hrs. via IV, requiring hospitalization. When they realized I'm not willing to hospitalize my dog, they prescribed an antibiotic that's only intermittently effective against this bacteria, that's got an explicit warning to NOT use in dogs, as it's causing bone marrow suppression. If the above is not preposterous enough, they had just notified me, 2 WEEKS after surgery, that there was another bacteria discovered in that same sample - a staph! My dog contracted 2 nasty and extremely hard to kill bacterias as a result of the surgery. I am attaching a copy of the lab testing result here and happy to share the remainder of documented information with anyone who's still on the fence to keep, take their pet to or start brining them to Fenton River practice. I personally strongly advise against it. The risk to your pet's health IS NOT WORTH IT. My experience with them speaks to incompetence, pet ailment she didn't have before and wouldn't have otherwise that I need to continue caring for weeks, and if I had to apply simple terminology - medical negligence.
