Do NOT waste your time or money here. I recently moved back from Florida. I was more organized with my dogs than myself. I called Slade multiple times, had all of their records sent over, and asked if we were all set. I just went to an appointment for one of my dogs for his Cytopoint injection. I wanted to simply weigh my other dog, so I could get flea and heart worm meds for both. I was informed that they "could not" give either dog medication as they had zero records for one and no blood work records for the other. Every single employee has attitude, unaccommodating, and offered zero solution. (One young man was the ONLY nice and professional person here.) They offered zero solution, and were simply rude. Cytopoint is also almost double what it costs in FL (which I understand MA will be more expensive) but I have received MUCH better and more accommodating vet care in FL. I am extremely disappointed because I have RAVED about how great Slade is, in the past. I am beyond frustrated and will never return. I will spend the rest of the day seeing if my vet in FL will give me an RX for Chewy, finding a new vet, and sending over all records and making the same MULTIPLE calls that I have made to Slade to set up for care. I have talked to them at least FOUR times, and no one has mentioned any of this before now. They said I was set. And in person they are rude and dismissive. If anyone has any recommendations on a vet that actually has some bedside manner and cares, send them on over! read more

My dogs were Slade patients for five years and both Dr. Martin and Dr. Fiamengo were valued and appreciated. But I had to leave this practice because it has descended into chaos in the past year or two. Half of the front office and the other two vets keep confusing one dog with the other, cannot keep track of what dosage they recommended for which dog and they even document a positive on a heart worm test, when it was actually negative. A couple of the front office staff cannot take a message to save their life and they pass through to the vet a treatment plan THEY came up with but they present it as if it were your request. Next thing you know, you're in front of a vet who is admonishing you for requesting a medication or procedure that is not appropriate, and which you never even thought of. The last straw was when the appointment-maker would not let me speak to a vet or give me an appointment unless I agreed to let them sedate my vet-phobic dog and shave him, in order to put ointment on a hot spot. Sedate a dog for ointment?! I did it myself with no meds and no restraint, as usual. Crazy. I'm writing this review on the chance that the good staff will figure out what the others are doing to the practice. read more

We have been taking our cat(s) to Slade for years. The veterinarians are great and we don't want to leave the practice but the reception staff seem to HATE working there and it shows. If you've spent 5 minutes in the waiting room, you will hear how they talk about their clients. It's so unprofessional and just nasty. We've had trouble booking appointments without an attitude, we struggle to have prescriptions refilled on time and today they randomly charged my credit card $5.50 without authorization to have a prescription called in to a compounding pharmacy- which is something we do every single month and have never been charged. Since they require a cc on file, apparently they can just charge it without asking? It's not about the money (we spend a lot of money there), it's about the principle. There are other clinics in the area. Avoid this place! read more

They go above and beyond the job description to ensure their patients receive top notch care and take the time to explain everything very thoroughly to you. We traveled from Rhode Island for my dog Scouts TCI inseminations, a procedure our local vet doesn't do. When we had an unfortunately incident with FedEx and a delayed semen shipment from a stud dog that we had to track down at Logan Airport the vets at Slade came in after hours at 8pm to do the procedure so we didn't miss Scouts fertile window. I needed the opinion of a vet specializing in reproductive disorders in dogs. Dr Gatlin was recommended. I have to admit, that I was very apprehensive after reading the reviews of people being quoted one price and charged another or overcharged especially when I was reminded twice before the appointment to fill out all the forms online. Those forms also warn you of your responsibility to pay your bill When I arrived at the office I found ample parking, a clean waiting area, and friendly reception people. I was taken into a room within 10 minutes of my appointment time. The doctor was caring, compassionate, friendly, and very knowledgeable in her field. She gave me her honest opinion and told me of a few optional tests that I could shoes to have done that would confirm her opinion, but stated that they weren't necessary where I had mentioned that cost was a concern. She made me feel very comfortable in my decision. And her opinion proved to be 100% accurate. Not even going to rate this animal hospital. My poor granddog went there for her prenatal care ultra sound, X-rays etc. three days in one week and all of a sudden it becomes an emergency? We were quoted one price and then comes the day for my granddog's CSection and Wham the price jumps off the charts hundreds of dollars, while she is being sedated. No babies yet! What's the deal. Last time we will ever go there and all of our family and friends will not be going to this animal hospital. Two weeks after my Bernedoodle gave birth, she developed a nasty Mastitis in one of her teats. It was scary with a high fever and no relief. Dr. Gail was professional and honest with a caring attitude as they treated our girl. It was rough going but the Repro Techs who also breed gave me lots of tips (I.e. cabbage leaves helps with inflammation). Sadly, Maggie had to have surgery and that meant a hard wean of the puppies, antibiotics, constant supervision, bottle feeding, etc. I was calling Slade everyday, it seemed. They were nothing but professional and kind. There have been some negative reviews here and I'd just like to say that when you treat your vet, techs and admins with respect and kindness, they will go the extra mile for you. It is also important to remember that veterinarian care is a specialty which requires money. Think about that when you purchase an animal in the first place or decide to breed. The results for my pets bacterial infection came in THREE DAYS after they told me they would be MAX 24 hours and STILL I had to call THEM for the results, they didn't call me. Had an absolutely awful experience here using repro services. Brought my dog in for her insemination and was told they thought it would be better if I came back the next day even though her level was extremely high already. My studs owner told me they were wrong but I felt like I was at their mercy. Low and behold they made me wait too long and we ended up with a singleton puppy pregnancy. From that point they insisted she would need a c section and daily testing " because if she went into labor I'd be screwed " any questions I had they would be around the bush and be extremely rude and not provide answers I was looking for. Thank goodness I found a new vet and my girl had a smooth healthy natural delivery at home on her due date. We adopted a very lively, energetic 10 year old Chihuahua mix about 2 years ago, who is 12 now, and have been bringing him in for visits here and there for some minor things and yearly exams. Honestly, we hadn't been loving Slade and considered switching vets. But it's a few blocks away from home, and very convenient. We were seeing different vets each time, and they seemed to rush through, since he's "old" anyway. Our dog has been having some issues with his back leg, so we made a same day appointment (after I decided to google his symptoms and had serious anxiety) with Dr. Kremer, and we could not be happier!!! She was AMAZING! Dr. Kremer took her time, did a very thorough exam of his legs and entire body, recognizing he also had an ear infection! She had us walk around outside including up and down some steps for 5-10 minutes so she could see how he was walking. Dr. Kremer suggested a few tests, and a lymph node aspiration (all of which she performed in house!), and some x-rays. Before doing the x-rays, she told us the price and asked if it was ok with us, which was very much appreciated! She showed us all of the x-rays and explained everything, including the test results in detail so we could fully understand what was going on. Dr. Kremer spent 1.5 hours with our dog, and really made us feel like we were her only patients and she truly cared about him. Turns out our little guy just has some minor arthritis but is in otherwise great health! He was prescribed some anti-inflammatory pills as well as a couple of supplements to help. She wants us to check back in at the end of the month to see how he is doing. We fully trust her and will absolutely come back, specifically requesting Dr. Kremer! read more

At Slade Veterinary Hospital now. One of my Frenchie girls just had a c section. I co-own and Bred the mom. I own and bred the stud dog. And I am not allowed in to see the puppies. I was here early this morning to see when things were going to happen. I came back a second time today to see the puppies and I am not allowed in to see them. 2 people are allowed in. The girl I co- own the mom with and her sister were allowed in. Her sister said she would wait outside and let me get a quick peek. Stacy said no I am not allowed in the building. I'm glad I stopped using them a long time ago as my repro vet. Not even allowed in the building now because I guess I'm Not paying for their services anymore. Asked to speak with the manager and Stacy told me there wasn't a manger in today. So I completely wasted my morning and afternoon. They took money for doing a brucellosis on my stud dog for this breeding and also took money to give him a rabies shot so they have seen my boy and made money off him and I'm still not allowed even in the building. Stacy came out to meet the girls at the door and to make sure I didn't go in. I never recommend them and only agreed to have the c section done there because that was the wishes of her co-owner. We've been going to Slade for a little over a year now, and we couldn't be happier. After moving to the metro-west area (and after having been fed up with the Fresh Pond Animal Hospital), we chose Slade because it came highly recommended by a corgi breeder we had been working with. The breeder name-checked them because several staff members had extensive first-hand experience with Pembroke Welsh Corgis (one or more are corgi breeders themselves), so they were familiar with the special needs of the breed (natural dwarfism, yo). We immediately took our two cats there, as well as our Puppy corgi a year later. The two vets of whom we've had the most exposure are Dr. Schmieder, and Dr. Rottman. Both have been superstars. Both demonstrated a calm, level-headed demeanor, and have done an excellent job of explaining health-care options (primarily with different vaccinations), while presenting the benefits, risks, their personal leaning (if they have any), before handing the ball to us to make the final decision. We also appreciated that we didn't have to tell them to space out inoculations on our new pup (the FPAH would've been all too happy to pin-cushion or dog all at once). It also certainly doesn't hurt that all three of our animals have been given clean bills of health... :P. Now, our breeder did warn us that Slade was "a little expensive," and this might be empirically true... except we have no way to know if their prices really are above average. The most we've spent in one visit was maybe $130 for one our cat, but she needed a workup. This is primarily because we've found that the vets at Slade have a "less is more" approach to pet care, and generally don't push for procedures unless there's good reason (once again, unlike FPAH who'd be more than happy to order a remote MRI with a networked/teleconferenced feline dermatologist and shoe salesman out of Okinwa, Japan; just so they can add a zero to the final bill). While I don't want to come off as stingy, this kind of conservative sensibility has helped keep vet bills low (usually well under $100). I think the only complaint is that the support staff can be a little ditsy. But that's a mild gripe at best. The bottom line is that Slade an oasis in a barren wasteland of horrible local vets (lookin' at you, angel memorial!). We've experienced nothing but unparalleled professionalism, excellent care, and honestly... low costs. There's nowhere else in mass we'd ever take our pets. read more

I have been a client at Slade for over 10 years. As a breeder for over thirty years, I have experienced the joy and miracle of natural whelpings in my home. With every breeding, when Dr. Migday has been the vet on duty, she has pushed for a C-section in every instance. Her only interest is in the PROFIT, not in the well being of the animal. A natural whelping is best for your female rather than putting her through major surgery. I would not recommend them for any reproductive services. There are occasions when a C-section is necessary, but not as a routine surgery. Dr. Migday's "scare tactics" are totally unprofessional. She lacks integrity and compassion. As for routine veterinary care, they are adequate, nothing exceptional for the prices they charge. I would not recommend them. read more

Dr Lennord almost killed my cat. He was never my most faviort vet i had stoped seeing him for most rotine care how ever when i broght my cat in for dental claening i figgered how bad could he be he always dose fine with the teeth. My Cat go sick and insted of treating him he sent him home and did not tell me. My cat do to his lack of care now has a feeding tube and spent a week at tufts . He never would even say he was sorry. Then they would not give me back my money that i spent to have his teeth cleaned Thanks to Dr lennord i now have over 27000 in vet bills. My dog has been coming this vet for over a year now. About a month ago I brought my dog Reese to the vet because he was not acting like himself at all. The behaviors he was expressing were very concerning so I brought him in and the doctor did a 5 minute neuro exam. She said word for word that he was "medically fine", and it seemed like maybe he was just stressed out. Well his condition only worsened overnight, so I called and brought him back in. This time they actually did tests and found out that he was in acute kidney failure and needed to be rushed to the ER. After paying this vet over $500 to tell me to go to the ER, I did and my dog ended up having to be hospitalized for 13 days costing me over $7,000. Because of there mistake my dog was left suffering and I'm not out a huge amount of money. Slade never once offered to compensate me for anything, instead they just asked me to pay them even more money. On top of this Slade never bothered to check up on my dog and see if his condition was improving. This experience was horrific and no dog or pet owner should have to go through this. At this point I would not recommend this vet to any pet owner. I am extremely disappointed in the care he received. read more

Dr Mgday told the owner's of the bitch that they should take a loan out on their trailer if they did not like her quote of $2000 for AI. The semen was there and all she wanted to talk about was how good she looked for her age. The owners are qualified breeds of Goldens but that was a lot of money. To be spoken to that way was horrible. They chose to try another way. read more

I had a good experience the first 10 years I went here up until 2017. But in 2020 I got two new puppies and the experience has been completely different. I called and the phone rings and rings or I get an answering service which sends me to somebody who put me on hold for 10 minutes. This has repeatedly happened. Then they have mixed up the medications for my dogs. Then I have requested for my dogs be spayed there. One is under 20 pounds his quote was $700. The one over 20 pounds was $900. There are six littermates, all other quotes for under $250! When I called to discuss this with the owner, can't became very snippy with me and I suggested maybe I should get calls from somewhere else and she hung up on me. Then I called about a question about a symptom one of my dogs was happening And they refuse d treatment. A month later I called them to get heartworm in front line for the dogs and they refused treatment again! Go elsewhere for customer service and good treatment for your pets read more

I've been going to Slade for years because they are in the same town we live in. They're ok. Very friendly. But we switched to another vet for a few reasons: They misdiagnosed two of our dogs. Our husky mix always had crust on the insides of her ears and after cleaning it ourselves many times, we brought her in for an ear flush. The vet told us ear problems are usually due to coat issues (agreed we had been negligent about brushing her) and got out all the loose fur while she was under. Three days later, the ear crud was back. We later discovered it was due to a food allergy. (By contrast, when we brought a different dog to our new vet about constant ear troubles, she immediately said, "ear problems are usually due to food allergies.") We brought our golden mix in because he was limping. He tested positive for lyme (which he had had before) and they began treatment. Later we discovered there are 2 types of lyme tests: they had given him the cheaper 'snap test' which always shows positive if your dog ever had lyme before. Our new vet knew right away when she saw him walk that the limping was due to his ACL. The more extensive lyme test she gave him showed he did not have a level of lyme that needed treatment. The third reason we switched is we're not big on vaccines and my husband told the vet he wished there were other options. She didn't say a word. Later he discovered on his own there is a thing called a titer test which shows if they need a vaccine at all, based on levels of their natural antibodies. When he told the vet what he had found, she knew all about it but never mentioned it. (By contrast, our new vet tries to educate people and boarding facilities about the titer test in lieu of vaccines.). So, to summarize, there was nothing major that made us leave. But now we drive 40 minutes away to a vet we love in Bolton. read more

My puppy had had a fever earlier is the week and I was worried he might be getting hot again and they let me come in to check his temp. just a few minutes before they were closing. In my panic I locked my keys in my car and one of the vet techs helped me carry dog food out to my car and waited with me until my boyfriend could come. I waited a while to tell this story since my cat past away and I felt they dragged it out, charged me more than I wanted to spend and made me feel bad about my treatment choices. I had been here before and had great experience so when my cat got sick I brought him right over. I was told his urinary tract was blocked. I clearly asked what were the chances and stated that finances were the deciding issue. So we decide to try one procedure to cath him expected it to work. I should have seen the flags because when I was asking for information to make a decision I was told 'if you do nothing he will die." I felt this was cruel, unless she was offering to do it for free I needed to make a decision based on what I could afford. So its Thursday and they do the procedure. They call and say it went well and I am thinking he will come home late Friday or Saturday morning all better. Friday again they say he is getting better. Saturday still saying things ok but want to keep him til Sunday. Again flags are up. Now it's getting more expensive. Turns out it didn't work and only recourse is a $5000 operation to change his sex. So my problem was I felt they kept trying even though I had been very clear with my financial situation. I felt they should have stated by Saturday morning it was't successful and the cat should be put to sleep. Now its Sunday the place is closed I am driving to pick up a kid from sleep away camp out of state and its very hard to get a call back from them. There are many calls back and froth what to do. Finally the weekend doctor states that basically it didn't work and we should put the cat to sleep if we can't do the next surgery. So my whole family is really upset because I have been saying he's doing great (based on their reports) and will be home and NOW we put him to sleep. Here comes the kicker they want to charge more for the extra time and putting him to sleep. Plus they won't give him back unless I pay so we can bury him. So I reluctantly Monday go and pay so we can bury our family pet. They finally agree to not charge the extra $100 for putting hime to sleep but I still had a large bill and a terrible experience. I understand that its business and I tried to make a decision based on facts that we could afford but I felt I was being judged by my decision and they weren't very frank about the cat's situation. read more

Every time I come here there is one issue or another, but my most recent experience is what really did it for me. I had an appointment for my cat, and when I got there my file wasn't taken out so I watched the receptionist look for that while not saying a word to me. A minute later she turns to say "Um..you can go sit down" WOW, THANKS! You're super polite....not. After 20-25 minutes and 4 people coming in and being seen before us, I asked how much longer and while she called the vet techs, she made it seem like I had been there a minute and was demanding to know how much longer. She told me it would be a few more minutes, so I sat back down and waited another 15 minutes before leaving. About 20 minutes after we left I received a call from the office and the woman told me "Oh, I'm sorry. We had an emergency come in. We can see him tomorrow for a free office visit BUT you still have to pay for his vaccines" to which I replied "no thanks, I will be taking him elsewhere". Here is a word of advice: Be more pleasant to your PAYING customers and be understanding that a cat who is already stressed out, hovering in the corner of his carrier, does not want to be sitting there for 40/45 minutes while a bunch of dogs come in. They have a number of vets there so if one in particular couldn't see him, I'm sure the others are just as capable of squeezing in a perfectly healthy cat who just needed 2 shots. Also, if there was an emergency that came in, the receptionist should have communicated that with me and given me the option to wait or reschedule. Also, 1 receptionist on a Saturday afternoon? This is the BEST vet in MA! Not only are the staff super friendly and knowledgeable but they are BY FAR the most affordable vets going. Many of the human's who use Slade are breeders actively involved in showing animals; so you know they are seeking the best medical care possible. My mother just got a new puppy and took her to a vet in Newton...$230 later, no vaccines and just the check up. I told her that was RIDICULOUS! I took the puppy to slade for her vaccines $136. After bouncing around to several vets that I was not happy with, I found Slade. This place is great. Great docs, reasonable prices and flexible hours and appointments. All of the vets here are great. I love Rottman and she is my go to, knowledgable caring and compassionate. Migday, the founder is also top notch and a go to. But I have found you can't really go wrong with any of the docs.
