This used to be a great Veterinary Clinic but the new staff is unprofessional, clearly just looking to pass time and inattentive. If you are lucky to get an experienced staff member it won't be terrible, but over all the assistants are unprofessional. I had back to back appointments. They were late to the first appointment, took a long time to complete it. My dog was taken out of the room for a long time for a seemingly basic check up. When I came back for my next appointment that they scheduled back to back they said I was late and had to reschedule. No humanity, no care for the animals just someone on their phone never looking up telling me too bad. This used to be a good place but it just has fallen because of their hires. i have been taking my pets here for many years. The staff at the desk are always kind and helpful. I was late for my appointment by 15 minutes. The veterinarian would not allow our visit. i have never been told that the policy existed. I would not have let my 13 year old 6 lb.Yorkie take care of business outside had I known. He was due for shots and has been having some health issues that I had questions about. The examine rooms appeared empty. I would NOT recommend Hillside to anyone. I usually am on time and often have to wait. ONE TIME I SHOW UP LATE AND IM REFUSED service. THAT Veterinarian needs to be tolerant of humans. BRING YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE.! read more

Unfortunately care is not priority. Billing seemed more important. If your animal is ever in distress they will refuse to see or help you again. They will also report you to Animal Control in a heartbeat, even when you are trying all you can to get your animal help. This used to be an OK clinic, however more recently I have not heard anything good along with the my own experience. For masterful care Overlook Veterinary Clinic is the place to be. Our dogs have been patients of Hillside vet since we moved to auburn 48 years ago. We have brought them in on an emergency basis numerous times. We were always told to bring the dog in same day. On Tuesday August 27,2024 while my husband and I were on vacation and couldn't be with our dog, he became seriously ill. We asked Hillside to please see him. They wouldn't see him until the next day at 2pm. We were fortunate to have a connection to a vet in Belmont and Clifford was seen immediately. He was put down out of necessity a few hours later. It was cruel and thoughtless of Hillside to treat such long standing patients as they did to us. We will no longer be using this vet for our other dog. Very inconsistent care if there is actual care at all! Because you never know what vet will be there, and it's very very hard to always see the same vet due to availability, your pet gets total inconsistent care. I had a horrible experience with one vet who I brought my puppy to see who barely even examined her except to stretch her legs out then tell me she likely has serious hip dysplasia without any further information except to repeat over and over that she isn't "orthopedic so I don't know." She never suggested taking blood to look for a tick-borne illness or inflammatory counts, never felt her lymph nodes, never had her do a straight walk down a long hall, or even measured her hips. They never even got her weight! A tech took my other dog back for a bordetella shot, then threw her back in the room. I had so many questions I needed answered and I felt very rushed and pushed off. So finally I became furious and asked to speak wkrh the manager who was instantly defensive and uninterested in my side of anything. So I beve even more angry and emailed the owner. instead of him calling me to hear me out and respect my loyalty as a customer who has never had a bad second there (on the contrary - I sing their praises and look forward to going!), he simply replied that I can find another vet. SO - BEWARE - if you go to Hillside and you have a bad experience, you will NOT be heard, you will not be given the benefit of the doubt, you will not be believed, your loyalty as a customer for all the previous years and all of your referrals will be disregarded, and even if you are going through a personal health crisis and now your baby puppy is to, Hillside will abandon you completely, tell you the situation is your fault, and not care to even call you. I called to make an urgent appointment for my pet and the person who answered the phone would not give me an appointment, said I would have to call back tomorrow to see IF there were any openings and then purposefully and abruptly hung up on me. I cannot say enough good things about the staff at Hillside. At a time when it is almost impossible to get into a vet without weeks of lead time, I have been able to get in with my dog twice within a few hours for an urgent visit. They are friendly, and very accommodating for the needs of my particular pets. I trust them completely. We have only received the best care from them. Man O Man - they know how to charge! I was using Hillside, Auburn for all my cats needs but I think that they changed hands or something. They told me at his last visit that they will clip his nails for $15.76. I was charged today for $26.26 and was in there virtually 10 minutes for just a nail clipping. They charged me an additional $10.50?? When I questioned it, I was told that it's their 'standard fee' for just walking in the door! They said that it's not just me - everyone pays! I didn't see this advertised anywhere inside or on their website either. $10.50 FOR JUST WALKING IN THE DOOR. I hate nickle and diming, undisclosed, and hidden fees! read more

Hillside used to be great! Recently the whole staff has changed. I went in today to pick up medicine for my dog, and I asked if the vet was available, he wasn't in an appointment but neither of the front desk people seemed willing to go ask if he would come out to talk to me. I'm torn and rating a 3 only because I like the vet himself very much. Otherwise, the rating would be a 0 if I could. The previous front end staff was far more helpful and accessible and knowledgeable. Nothing against these employees really, just little to no experience, and it shows! They needed the more knowledgeable log time staff there to guide them. Very unhappy right now! Will be considering another practice in the near future! read more

The staff at Hillside are awesome, always prompt and courteous. They have always been super helpful, I'm the dog mom who calls if Scotty even looks at me weird and they have always put my mind at ease and answered any questions I've had. Hillside treated my Mom's dog for 16 years and when she became extremely ill, they were TOO BUSY to even make an appointment. Furthermore, they referred me to a physician who sometimes made house calls or could help and that call was not returned for over 48 hours. Their lack of compassion, dedication, prolonged a very serious situation and a suffering patient. I would NEVER RECOMMEND THEM to anyone.
