If I could rate them 0 stars I would! I took my mini cockapoo there and explained to the groomer (Alyssa P} how I wanted my dog groomed. My dog weighs 19lbs soaked and wet, she told me to pick him up in four hours which I still don't understand why so long? Sure enough I picked him up four hours later and my dog was butchered! What she did was take a clipper and zipped him all over almost to bare skin. No sheers were used what so ever! In my honest opinion, it was done deliberately. Cockapoos are hypoallergenic and have long, thick, curly hair which can be challenging to groom if you don't know wtf you're doing. And to top it off, they have the customer pay then they bring out your dog after you leave a tip. To all dog owners, if you truly love your dog, I advise you to stay away from this shit show. I visited this Petco because I happened to be passing by (I'm not from this area). I have visited many Petco locations as we have a variety of animals at home. I stopped here specifically to see their fish, we have many tanks both salt and freshwater. I was impressed by cleanliness of the tanks and the health of the fish. The employees were all very friendly and knowledgeable. The fish I purchased were carefully and gently taken out of tanks. TLDR; Given fish that had ich that started dying within 24 hours of having them. Refunded for them after they fail to blame me for the deaths. Took dog for grooming but was turned away due to miscommunication from a desk lady with a buzz cut that was already rude over the phone. Won't be using Petco or Vital Care any longer. Very disappoint with the service I've received from Petco, and this spot specifically. First, I bought 6 neon tetras from them and within 24 hours 3 out of the 6 were dead because of ich. I was made to bring in a water sample of my own to make sure it wasn't "my fault" the fish died... this was interesting to me because you could see the white spots on the tails of the fish. While it was being tested the person told me that sometimes ich comes out of nowhere -- well not when there's a clear cause and effect. Of course found my water quality was perfect. I was then directed to treatments I can use for the REST of my fish since I had introduced them to my tank. Quite frankly I would give a parasitic and bacterial/fungal treatment with EACH FISH PURCHASE if you're going to sell sick fish. The least you can do is TRY to prevent the devastation. After this I did not buy anymore fish but I was still taking my dog using their Vetco Vital Care program. The lady over the phone was disrespectful from the start. She cut me off multiple times and then indicated I could bring my dog in before they started taking cats in. Turns out she wasn't clear about what time cats should be brought in. When I got there after 20 minutes of driving and my anxious dog shaking over the anticipation of the appointment, I was turned away because they were now only accepting cats. Next time, don't allow anyone to come in past 5:15p! For everyone else, cats only STARTING AT 5:30p, ABSOLUTELY NO DOGS AFTER THAT POINT EVEN IF THEY SAID YOU COULD COME IN. I don't know the rude lady's name, but she had a buzz cut. Long story short, I won't be using Petco or their services anymore. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I brought my nearly four month old puppy to Vetco for her final round of puppy shots. The previous month, she had her rabies shot at the Shrewsbury Vetco. Their systems don't talk to each other regarding their patients. So, this was not in the system. However, I communicated this in person and brought the paperwork indicating she had the vaccination in May. Ryan the tech who does the check-ins stated he would update her vaccination record and said next month (June) when she does her final round of vaccinations, they would skip the rabies shot. I was in for a surprise today! Not only could I not be with her this time while she received her shots BUT they also ended up giving her another rabies vaccination!!! After being told not to!!!! I blame the vet (Dr. Ovid Fraser) who sat in his chair the whole time while examining my dog. I blame the techs for poor communication. He didn't take her temperature or pulse or respiratory rate because he was "Unable to" you were unable to because you sat on your butt the entire examination. No other vet has had these issues until today!!!! I only knew they had given her the rabies shot when they presented the tag to me. That's when I lost it and told them AGAIN she had it the month prior. Dr. Fraser did not bother getting off his warm chair to talk to me about how its okay and won't harm her etc. I told the tech Ryan, "I told you she had this shot already." He admitted that he remembered me telling him about it but it "Got lost in communication". They offered me a 50% off coupon......I don't care about the financial break! I don't want my dog getting sick/having a reaction!!!! Ryan also tried saying anytime they travel, they need another rabies shot......that is not true and she didn't travel!!! Stick to what you know, the iPad you play with and the scale you read for their weight! I will not be bringing her back to that dump anytime soon. Make sure they let you back there when they do vaccinations and do a two-step verification. Additionally, my dog had a grooming appointment yesterday. They skipped cleaning one of her ears. We went here on October 7th, 2022 to buy my elderly mother a guinea pig since she lost her husband three months ago and we were met with a young girl who kept grilling us with information. She kept repeating the hay is 70% of a Guinea pigs diet. She wouldn't let my Mom get a Guinea pig unless she bought hay which we are all allergic too. She walked away when my son was talking to her and asking a question. He's 14 not 5. She also told him to "stop talking!" She is very rude. I was getting irritated with her aggressive advice she wouldn't let up even after I told her that I am experienced. I have had piggies for decades. We just wanted to get the Guinea pig and leave. I Walked over to the cashier and told him that the sales lady in the rodent section was irritating us and that I wanted to speak to the manager. She kept saying that the cage wasn't big enough (takes up entire back seat of car) and that guinea pigs need more room. She literally would point out EVERYTHING negative about all the products we were buying from THEIR PETCO store! She Then told us that they feed the guinea pigs food called vita Prima, and she said that that food has treats in it and it's basically junk food and it's not the best for their health but that's what they're told to feed them. Then she's trying to push us to buy Oxbow brand guinea pig food. I agree that Oxbow is a fantastic brand, I've never had any issues with rat food, guinea pig food or rabbit food with Oxbow. But when I mentioned that I wanted to start the guinea pig on the same food that they're feeding him and then we could slowly switch she seem to have an attitude with that and said that the food that they feed them is practically junk food. BIt's like what so you're feeding the animals crap that's what you're telling me and we're gonna buy your animal which you don't even want us to buy because you're a pain and everything we're doing is wrong it just didn't make any sense. It was just aggravation for nothing. I was like oh my God! I asked for the manager. She had told me that SHE was the manager. When I went to the cashier at the front of the store to explain what was going on he said that the manager was over there. I looked over what he was pointing too and it was a 30's something bald guy with blue eyes that was stocking shelves. So now I walk over to him and start having a conversation with him about what was going on. I explained that his staff member is basically bullying us and going over everything that we're doing wrong with caring for guinea pigs and everything that we have to buy even though we told her that we were all set with her advice after a while because she kept grilling us and repeating herself and treating us like we were basically stupid. And he just looked at me with a blank stare and was like "well we just wanna make sure that the animals are properly cared for." I said I understand that sir but she's being a bully about it like we've been here for over half an hour and she's still talking to us we just wanna get the guinea pig and go. I asked "can you please talk to her?" He didn't answer that. So as I'm having a conversation with him I see the girl come over and she's standing there while I'm having a conversation with him almost like she's babysitting my conversation with the manager. I started seeing that he wasn't apologizing to me about her behavior, he wasn't telling her to tone it down a little. He just basically was staring at me like a deer in headlights and looking at me like I had two heads. So once I saw I was getting nowhere with him my mom finally just agreed to buy the stupid hay, even though she's going to end up throwing it away because we're all allergic to it. All because this jerk of an employee at Petco who thinks she knows everything wouldn't let us buy a guinea pig without getting that particular brand of hay (even though there are other alternatives that I told her that our family uses and we've had many guinea pigs one of my guinea pigs lived to age 7.) So it's not that we don't know what we're doing. I am appalled at how my mother was treated and my mother is grieving she lost her husband three months ago. She just wanted a friend to keep her company. I also lost my dad recently. It's disgusting how she treated my son telling him to "stop talking" and she walked away from him when he was asking her a question. Also, how she treated me, like I didn't know anything. BI am never going to buy a rodent at that Petco at that location with these people, such poor attitudes. I also have no faith in the manager that if something goes wrong and I need to contact a manager or speak to someone who is higher up in that company that they will even do anything about it. I visited this Petco for the first time ever to pickup a cat scratcher for my two cat children. I decided to check out this small animals and see if there were any rats to adopt (I am a lover of all things rat). I came across a cute little guinea pig but it was laying on its side, but breathing. I didn't think anything of it being that I've never owned a guinea. I said something to the cashier as I made my purchase. I went home and looked up guineas laying on their side only to find that it means they're sick. I immediately called the store to inquire on its health and notify them that it may be sick. The gentleman on the phone said "is it even breathing" while I was still on the line. He put me on hold two more times to finally come out and say "I was just notified that the guinea didn't make it". WHAT THE HECK! I said something for that information to only be ignored and now a poor innocent life has been lost. I will NEVER visit a Petco store again. My advice? You can find everything at Petco online cheaper. If you MUST shop here - go at night and never on a weekend. EVER. They do have the Vetco Clinic for cheap vaccinations but you guessed it.. they try so very hard to upsell you on shots your dog may not ever need in its life. It IS cheaper than seeing the Vet, but you do have to wait your turn. I wouldn't come for the grooming.. I have heard some horror show stories but if your pup needed a quick nail trim I cant see the harm in it. That said the staff is actually the shining star of Petco. if anyone is thinking of signing up for VITAL CARE.. here are the deets! Unlimited Teeth cleaning & Unlimited nail trimming.. ??they offer that but you will never be able to make any appointments. If you do, they will cancel it and offer it to other paying grooming services. According to them, it only takes about couple minutes to do nail trim and teeth clean, yet they can never spare that much time. What is the point in offering a service where they can meet the needs. Check the appts to see for yourself. It is a good way to have people pay monthly subscription without actually doing anything for them. I hate that this is the only way for corporate to reach out to me and the horrible service I've been getting. I have called many times and left messages. Please thoroughly read the other reviews because the same things has happening to others. Manager needs to step up and figure out a better system with the grooming services. Please do not reply with a copy and pasted response that you use for the other reviews. If anyone drops off their dog, I recommend to stand there and watch the whole time. Really really miffed that this is the SECOND TIME Petco has weasled a $22 "Pet Spa" surcharge when I DIDN'T ASK FOR IT. Twice now the Grooming person has simply stated, "Would you like to choose the scent or shall I?" NOT informing you that this means "+$22 doggie perfume" I absolutely hate that they make it sound included. The kicker is: we got our dog a flea bath only to get her home and discover the fleas were still in her nose. Really not happy about paying $85 for just a trim, flea bath + unnecessary dog perfume. Have brought my little terrier for nail clippings for many years and was turned away the last time cause she is too old. My 2nd dog was turned away for a nail clipping because he is on medication. Don't even get me started on Petco. I hate big box stores, though I'll be the first to admit I spend a lot of money at them out of convenience. This Petco is no different. They're in a convenient location and have a vast array of supplies for every kind of animal, from our miniature pincher-chihuahua to our degus to our map turtles & their aquatic friends. The staff is kind-of knowledgeable...sometimes...though occasionally you find a staff member filled with false knowledge, especially when it comes to the small animals. They receive their deliveries of fish on Wednesdays and their supplies on Tuesday nights. I only ever buy fish (feeder and community) on Wednesday afternoons/evenings and only if there aren't too many dead fish in all the tanks (which is often a problem in this store.) ** Always be sure to look for dead fish in all the tanks, not just the one you're picking from, before making a purchase! Don't expect them to order something that's out of stock or know if it'll be coming in with the next delivery. Been there and tried that with a turtle heat lamp. Went 3 Wednesdays in a row and each time I was told they either didn't get any or they were already sold out. Thanks to Amazon I got one quickly there after. ** When possible try and visit your local pet supply shops and specialty pet shops (Yelp will help you find one!) They need your business much more than Petco and Pet Smart do and they're usually much more knowledgeable and genuinely helpful. read more

I scheduled at grooming appointment last Saturday at 10 am for my dog. When I went to check him in, the woman behind the counter was on the phone turning a potential customer away due to a groomer calling out and being double booked. When I was checking my dog in she went to check his mouth and his foot. Then she lied and said my dog bit her to turn him away. My dog is a Yorkie he's an excited dog who is friendly. But her never bits. She only did it because she was double booked. As I was leaving she was turning another dog away as well. I called to speak to a manager when I got home and told her the same exact thing that I am writing and she insisted that her employee was right and informed that she agreed even though she lied on my dog! Sure they had a few workers that just seemed to not care about anything and not even help you at all but the the selection makes you want to come back. I was in search of a specific brand and of course they were out. They had a smaller bag so I grabbed it. Overall, very clean place and competitive prices. I am 100% an advocate for Petco in general. There's a lot of Petco's in this local area in comparison to where we moved here from in CT. This location, however, could definitely use an update. The location of everything in the store is a little funky, and doesn't have a flow at all. It's kind of on the dirty side, or at least appears that way with everything being so outdated. Even the exterior is lacking. It's a relatively small location, so maybe that has something to do with it. Overall, the staff is super nice and accommodating. No complaints there! She always does a wonderful job and my dog definitely loves her even though he is always so nervous. I recommend Olivia to anyone looking for an attentive, efficient and caring groomer. I am so disgusted and disappointed by this store. I went there recently after I bought my guinea pig because he had ringworm. I lost my receipt but they have a copy since I have a card with them. The cashier told me he could not return him to bring him to the vet because he'd get written up. Animals health should always come first so that is unacceptable since they have a copy of my receipt. I went back two days later and said I think my guinea pig has ringworm to a man named Kurt, he was very nice. He brought the guinea pig to an animal care meeting that they were having. Convenient. A woman named Tina Hobart who was the store manager and a man who I believe was the assistant manager named Marvin marched out of the meeting very aggressively and angrily. They were so mad at the fact that I thought it was ringworm. The woman did not even say hi to me she just came over and started yelling at me because apparently it was NOT ringworm, it was a "sore" from something that was my fault. Something that I am doing wrong for him somehow. I was told that he is miserable because of the bad environment that he is in. Which is not true since he gets all the good brands since I want them to be happy and health. This woman was so rude and disrespectful to me and refused to take him to the vet when there clearly is a concerning issue on his body. That is NOT okay to refuse to bring an animal within the thirty days to the vet. I then left the store and had to call corporate because all I wanted was my guinea pig to be checked out by the vet because I did not know what the big spot of dry skin and hair loss was. I ended up going to the petco in shrewsbury because I will never deal with that woman again after the way I was treated. He was sent to the vet and HE DOES HAVE RINGWORM! After this woman was yelling at me that it was not ringworm and it was a sore from the way I am taking care of him. This woman SHOULD NOT be telling ANYONE what anything on an animal is. If someone has a concern about the animal that they bought from petco within the thirty days, they should take them to the vet no questions asked. The fact that she was so aggressive towards me about how I was wrong about what my guinea pig has and he DID end up actually having what she said he didn't have. Absolutely disappointed and something should be done about it. I will NEVER go there again because of that woman. The man Marvin just agreed with this woman the whole time and they were both wrong in general and wrong to treat me like that. They humiliated me and made me feel like an idiot and in the end they were actually wrong. My guinea pig HAS RINGWORM and they yelled at me for thinking he had ringworm and blamed it on me. A store manager should never talk to someone like she talked to me, all I wanted that day was to bring my guinea pig to the vet through petco and I ended up having to call corporate office three different times because I never got a call back as they said I would. I brought my dog in for nail cutting and a filing, which I have many times before. they took Molly into the room and put her on a dirty table with another dogs hair and clippings on it and proceeded to cut her nails. I was given her back with the other dogs hair attached to her collar. This is unacceptable as I do not know if the dog before had anything wrong with it or if the dog had fleas. Scheduled a grooming appointment for my golden doodle last week for 8am. Show up at 8 and there is no one there. A girl outside said that the manager wasn't there to open the door so no one can get in. Had to be to work so I left without dropping off my dog for the appt. After arguing with the manager they agreed to cut my dogs hair for free of charge. Drop my dog off to get groomed. After they finished the haircut I get told that they can't groom my dog anymore after today because he's to aggressive. Had my dog groomed here many times before now he's to aggressive. IF THERE WAS A 0 STAR RATING I WOULD CHOOSE!!! Bought 7 fish from here, before the 12 hour mark of having them they were all dead. Extremely disappointing to my 3 year old who was begging me for another fish, all the fish had Ick and killed my daughters first fish. The worst part of it all the sales "rep" Nate came to help get the fish out of the tank, was swearing in front of my 3 year old and told a customer he didn't have time for her at the moment. Only to later find out that he wasn't even supposed to be in that department. I have never experienced such horrible and rude customer service before in my life and I can promise you I will NOT be back. read more

If you're trying to go to the aquatics department don't bother going here. Or at least be prepared to wait over an hour to see an associate despite multiple requests for assistance. I personally left without having seen an associate in the department for over an hour instead of waiting additional time and wasting my Saturday afternoon. read more

I've gotten my dog groomed here numerous time and every single time he looks great! They always do a great job and they even fixed a bad cut he got from some other groomer who *surprise surprise* isn't in the business anymore. They always ask if I want to do the same thing or switch it up and make sure I'm getting exactly what I want for my dog. They always give him a sorta report card in how he did when he was here and stuff. Thumbs up! read more

Petco in Auburn MA is hit and miss--mostly miss unfortunately. We've used this store mostly for the aquatics department as part of a multi-store approach to meeting our needs. Staff is hard to find--usually very long waits to get help or have questions answered. When you do get help it is minimalist and leaves you trying to figure out the rest. When inexperienced customers come in looking for guidance and accurate information they expect exactly that from people who work with the animals, equipment, and supplies everyday. Instead if you make an error in judgment you get a lecture from the staff instead of supportive advice. Look for a more friendly and inviting store to ensure you have the best experience and get the information you need as these folks will likely leave you hanging. read more
