We had recently had a horrible vet experience so we were willing to travel a little farther for phenomenal care, and I'm telling you it went above our expectations. DO NOT TAKE HOUR DOG HERE. I rushed into Angel Vet around 10:00 PM on Thursday the 14th of August 2026 with an active emergency: my service dog had an open, bleeding wound on her chest. I was in a slip dress, slippers, and wet hair, it was unmistakably a crisis. I thought they were going to take good care of us, but they did the exact opposite. Instead of triaging a bleeding animal, the late-night staff stared at me like I was crazy and left us waiting in a full room. When someone finally spoke to me, they skipped the bleeding chest wound entirely just to make a snarky comment about leashing my service dog, who was calm and posing zero threat. Treating a critical trauma case like an inconvenient joke is pure neglect. The staff working the 10:00 PM shift on Thursday the 14th showed a complete lack of medical judgment, basic empathy, and professional competence. I will NEVER adopt from the MSPAC again. I adopted a frenchie from Nevins Farm a year ago. They told me that her salary gland was leaking into a pouch on her neck but that she was fine. That if it turns hard it will need surgery. But assured me it was not a "real" problem. Now its hard. Causing discomfort. Affecting her eating. Current vet can't do Sialadenectomy surgery because to close to juggler and judging by his shaking I think he has Parkinsons. Other vet wants deposit of over $7300 just to schedule Sialadenectomy and price to increase during surgery. Called MSPC Angell in JP to ask if they could help and do Sialadenectomy for less since their doctor at Nevins Farm caused the issue pulling teeth before her adoption. (Problem is not on her intake form but is on adoption forms so injury happened w them.) I was told no. They need to $265 for evaluate to see if she needs Sialadenectomy even though 2 other vets said she does. Surgery will be well over $6500. Told me I am to pay full price but they accept financing or I can put it on a card because its so expensive. The woman literally laughed at me. Audibly laughed at me. This poor dog will probably be put down because pet insurance wont cover it. (pre- existing condition). Her current vet can't do it. Can't find a vet who actually cares. MSPCA won't help even though they caused it. And I dont have thousands to pay for what she needs. Heartbroken. My poor girl. read more

On March 26th, we lost our beloved Beau, and I am only now beginning to come to terms with this heartbreaking loss and finding the words to speak about what happened. I am writing this review because there needs to be accountability for what happened to Beau. Beau was a healthy 4-year-old French Bulldog who was deeply loved by his family and everyone who knew him. He was not "just a pet", he was someone's child, companion, and entire world. My best friend trusted MSPCA with Beau's care, believing he would be treated with professionalism, compassion, and proper medical attention. Instead, the lack of appropriate aftercare and negligence resulted in a completely preventable tragedy. What is most heartbreaking is that Beau went into their care healthy and should have come home safe. The failure to properly monitor and care for him after treatment is what ultimately led to his death. No family should ever have to experience this kind of loss after placing their trust in veterinary professionals. At times, it felt like the focus was more on money and process than on the life of the animal in their care. The MSPCA needs to remember that every animal brought through their doors is someone's family member, and pet owners trust them to protect those lives. We will forever live with the grief of losing Beau, and I hope sharing this prevents another family from experiencing the same devastation. Terrible service, unfriendly front desk staff. Our cat has subs which she needs to have flushed, we were asked to bring her early in the morning and then pick her up in the evening - what total bs organization to stress out my poor kitty. They mishandled her and she bit some vet tech, a cat who has never even scratched anyone!!! Wtf did you do to her??? Plus needed tons of tests and had zero solution for... well, she has kidney disease and is dehydrated! It took you morons month to figure out that all she needed was freaking hydration!! Everyone was really amazing outside of the front desk staff. My dog had what we thought was a pretty intense seizure so we raced to Angell to see a doctor immediately. We called first to let them know we were coming. When we arrived, we checked in at the front desk and she said they would have to take our dog away from us. I was not ok with that and my husband whose father owned an emergency vet clinic for 30 years was definitely not having that. She was extremely rude and had zero empathy with us. We held our ground and she told us to sit in the waiting area. The waiting area is separated by dogs and cats. There are padded benches with tables and a TV for everyone's comfort. The restrooms are nearby and there is access to vending machines with drinks and snacks. A triage tech checked in with us and told us she could do all the necessary things with our dog in my lap. She was sweet, kind, and very gentle with him. We sat in the waiting area for about an hour before we were called back to see the vet. Our vet was Dr D'addezio who is an absolute dream. I wish we could see her for regular veterinary care. She was patient and kind and took time to answer our questions thoroughly while in the office as well as calling me back twice when I had questions and took her time with me. I never felt rushed or bothersome to her like I have with other vets. She really is a gem. The cost of our visit was in the 4 digit range and could have gone higher, but our vet was thoughtful in what we needed to do now and what we could save for later. I am really quite pleased with the care we received at Angell. read more

Horrible hospital. Due to what I believe was negligence, my perfectly healthy four-year-old French Bulldog died after being treated here. This has been an incredibly painful experience, and I strongly encourage others to do their research before bringing their pets to this facility. Everything. I brought my dog to Angell after VEG consulted with them about repairing an incision that had opened 2 days after TPLO surgery. Angell quoted about $3000 for the repair. When I got to Angell, it took almost an hour for triage to even look at my dog. It took another 5-6 hours before I we were seen by a vet which means my dog was left on a tile floor in the waiting room with an open incision that was seeping blood and with no pain medication or sedation. When we were seen by an intern - I don't remember her name but she was horrible, yelling at me to keep my dog still - she checked the wound, took some pictures, and disappeared. When she came back, the cost she gave was what Angell told VEG. I went to pay and was told that I was given the wrong quote and it would be $7-10,000 and that my dog would absolutely need a second surgery in 8-12 weeks. I was able to contact the vet tech where the original surgery was done and she asked the intern if they could bandage it in a way it would last 24-48 hours and she said yes. So, $600 later, I took my dog home after being told he had not been given medication and that he was aggressive with behavior problems. My dog is a favorite at my real vet's office and they always comment on how sweet he is. 7 hours later, the bandage had completely loosened and the incision opened completely, exposing the plate in his leg. I decided not to return to Angell and went to Blue Pearl where they properly medicated and bandaged my dog's leg. 24 hours later, I brought my dog to my vet where they repaired the incision for less than $1000. He did not need the surgery Angell wanted to do and he did not need an additional surgery. Then, I got a bill for medication for my dog even though the intern told me no medication was given. After 3 requests to talk to management, someone finally got in touch with me, told me my dog was given medication, and that if I didn't pay, they would ruin my credit (I sent them a check not even made out to them and they cashed it anyway - isn't that illegal?). I told them I believed they should reimburse the charge for the incompetent bandaging that I had to have redone and they refused. I filed a complaint with my credit card company - with the bills from Blue Pearl as well as the bill from my vet showing the work that actually needed to be done and they agreed that the charges should be reversed. Angell refused to reimburse any money. I hope you're happy that you stole over $600 from a senior citizen on a fixed income and that you would have done 2 unnecessary surgeries totaling over $10,000 if I had agreed to it. I remember now why so many people say that Angell is where dogs go to die. You people are horrible. You kept my dog waiting - in pain - for hours, lied about medicating him, lied about him needing two major surgeries, and did an incompetent job bandaging up his wound which needed to be redone 7 hours later by a competent vet. If I could give you negative stars I would. I will never trust you to even touch one of my dogs again. The only thing you want is money and you're willing to lie and do unnecessary surgeries to get it. So, enjoy your blood money. You're a bunch of thieves. If you provided competent service, at least I could justify paying but not when someone else has to do the exact same work, except they did it properly. read more

My cat has had two stays in the Angell feline ICU in the last month and I couldn't be happier with the care he has received. As soon as we walked in the doors to Angell I knew we were in the right place. We had learned at our regular vet that he had a potentially fatal bladder blockage and were directed to Angell in Jamaica Plain. Upon arrival my cat was taken back and seen immediately by emergency personnel. He was quickly diagnosed and treated for his emergent condition and spent 5 nights in the ICU during his first admission. The providers, both doctors and technicians, were absolutely incredible in keeping us informed of my cat's condition, progress and plan of care. In addition, we received daily updates with photos from care coordinators who were supportive and communicative. Unfortunately my cat became ill again several weeks after discharge due to the lingering impact of his initial condition. We immediately returned to Angell and he received the same level of care as he did when his condition was more dire. He was, unfortunately, re-admitted but treatment was adjusted as appropriate given his unique presentation. Again, I was kept informed by physicians, providers and care coordinators daily-often more than once. While my cat is still ill and being treated, now as an outpatient, I am confident that they are providing the best possible care. As a fellow healthcare provider, I know that treatment does not always go as expected but that every effort is being made to promote my boy's recovery. He came home this week (the night before my birthday! What a gift!!). The only drawback of Angell, in my experience, is the exorbitant cost. I am lucky to have the funds and assistance to care for my pet and would spend anything to keep him healthy and safe but I know that finances are a barrier for many. That said, all veterinary care is going to be expensive, especially when treating the variety of emergent and potentially life-threatening conditions that Angell is equipped for. Walter's condition is extremely rare and they have been managing it well, as far as I can see-he is home and getting back to his normal self. Considering the cost of veterinary care, I could not recommend pet insurance more highly. A particular thanks to Dr. Rassias who took a special interest in my cat's care and was more communicative and supportive than I would ever have expected a provider to be. She was available as a resource on weekends, holidays and off hours-a truly exemplary provider. Dr. O'Donnell was also fantastic. Dr. Bent was Walter's internal medicine provider and she was supportive, informative and available whenever we had questions or concerns. There are a lot of negative (but happily mostly positive!) reviews on Angell but I think people forget that, in all areas of healthcare, there are unexpected circumstances that providers have no control over. Your pet will be in amazing hands at Angell and they will do every thing they can to make them well again. I would absolutely take my pets to Angell again but, as much as I love you guys, I hope to never have to see you again! read more

Took my cat to urgent care locally where he had xrays and blood work done. The vet said he had gall stones and needed an ultrasound asap (they did not have ultrasound capabilities there.) It was Saturday so we did not have many options. Vet called Angel and they said if we got there before 5 they could do the ultrasound. We got there at 3 pm and were not seen until 6:15 at which time all the radiologists had left. They said we would have to come back on Monday and again pay the emergency room fee or they offered to keep him there until Monday at an estimated cost of between 3-5 thousand dollars for observation. So disappointed and now he is so sick I don't think we will be able to save him. My heart is absolutely breaking because they did not do what they said they would do and now he will probably die. read more

It takes so long to hear back from a member of the internal medicine team, and since the person who calls is not a veterinarian, they cannot answer all our questions. BEWARE, the are scammers under the guise of doing good We brought our senior dog into the ER Sunday, they offered to keep her overnight for testing on Monday but it was at the beginning of a storm and our pup's anxiety there is thru the roof so we brought her home. A vet called that evening and contradicted a lot of what we were told during the visit ie no MRI but an ultrasound. She said no appointments for over a week but we should bring her into the ER and get the ultrasound sooner rather than later and just pay the $252 ER fee. Today is Tuesday and upon arriving in the ER and after they collected our fee we were told we would get a 10:30am ultrasound. At 10:30 we were told we could not have an ultrasound and should come back in Thursday for an appointment (apparently they did have times available). They did not see her but insisted that they should keep the fee. Finally they gave us a $133 credit towards Thursdays appointment. To put our dog thru an unnecessary visit, to have us take off from work, and to guilt us for not staying overnight without a hint of empathy for how we might be feeling about our dogs condition so they could get an ER fee is unconscionable. Their prescription costs are all over the map, some are competitively priced others are 200% higher than Wegman's. The staff turnover is huge so there is no continuity of care either. That doesn't mean as individuals the vets are bad we have had a good one a couple meh and some we won't go back to - it's a crapshoot. We found their trainings helpful and the support staff even better. But their system which is designed not to partner with us but to exploit us cancels out the good. They have our vet for over a decade and every year we say we should change so that's on us but we live a few blocks away and we didn't. But we still don't deserve this. read more

I brought Cora, my young and healthy 6 year old French Bulldog here to the ER with the absolute mildest of nausea symptoms. They told me it would be better to leave her for monitoring and throughout her 16 hours here, she was over sedated to the point she couldn't walk due to a double dose miscommunication, under-sedated due to them having no clue how long IV's fell out for, and forced into unnecessary physical tests that significantly stressed her out and right after they placed a tube through her nose and into her stomach she died, they brought her back to life and then sedated her again and she died. Reading all of the notes, Cora fought for her life against the people who were supposed to be helping her, they neglected her needs and created situations that didn't help her instead killed her. Her blood work was perfect when admitted and all they have done since is lie and change their stories when questioned. If I didn't bring her here, she absolutely would be alive. Also, their positive reviews on yelp and google are 99% fake. They all contain the same verbiage, "What I appreciate most about Angell is...". This is because they would have a 1% positive rating if they didn't falsify their positive reviews. Stay away from this ER. read more

We had an excellent experience with MSPCA Angell. Our hamster had debris built up in his scent gland (which we didn't know until after the visit) so I called a few places asking if they treat hamsters. MSPCA Angell was the second place I called and I'm so glad they were the place we ended up going to. There was a fast response on the phone - under a minute wait. After confirming that they take hamsters, I called back later to give them our information to expedite check in. When we arrived we were able to check in immediately and went to the designated waiting area (split up by animal group). We waited about 20 minutes then a tech was able to see us. Giana was so lovely and was able to bring us back to see Dr. Alex very quickly. Both of them had a great attitude and energy! They treated our little guy swiftly and professionally. The facility itself is great! We went to the emergency department and the facility was clean, welcoming, and very organized. Our visit was around 4:30, 5pm on a Sunday night so I'm not sure if they're busier at other times! read more

Avian Vet Review Only - Dr. Noonan saw my African Grey today and the bird has feather destructive behavior - it's a complicated problem. He examined my bird with the tech that handled him like the pro she must be, and deemed him physically well. Didn't try to push further testing but let me know if I chose to go that route it was available. Came up with a plan with follow up options. Super nice vet and tech, and with a Sunday appointment! Can't beat that. Lobby was sparsely populated and calm, overall great visit and I am glad to know an experienced Avian doc is so close by. I can't speak to non-exotic appointments beyond the awful experience I had at Angell Waltham with a dog with a neurological problem and a vet neurologist at Angell Boston that wouldn't wait 20 minutes for us to get there from Angel West to have the dog seen. Ended up at Tufts and put dog down. That was a horror show. Agree with what others have said about treatment not being ideal in emergencies! read more

We took one cat to Dr. Terri Bright @ Angell Memorial in JP because she was licking her skin raw after receiving medical treatment including hypoallergenic food from our regular vet. A TOTAL waste of time and almost $500! One suggestion was to place a camera for monitoring our pets. Well who would spend countless hours reviewing the camera footage? We were given a calming medicine that contains casein, a milk derivative. Certainly the cat's scratching didn't settle after that. In fact it worsened so we stopped it. And she suggested it after knowing about the hypoallergenic diet. Finally it was suggested best not to bring other cat in for observation since Dr Bright doesn't see two animals, only one. Did I mention Dr Bright isn't a DVM? She has a Ph.D so can't prescribe Rx meds. How is the cat now? Doing fine. Needed time to adjust to her new home. My advice- if you ever need a behavior specialist make sure the doctor has a DVM with a behavior subspeciality. read more

I will I don't know what to say except I have exhausted every possible route right up to the top executive offices down through the director of the shelter the hospital itself the community program that takes care of the shelter animals I've contacted the media I don't know what else to do but I am absolutely flabbergasted I will never ever recommend this place to anybody or ever use it again and believe me in addition to being one of their major donors I had three medical specialty cats treated at Angell always pleased by the way, and have spent no exaggeration well over $175,000 in medical care for five cats at Angell in the past three years That said the shelter is a train wreck and shouldn't even be open or have any type of license; why do I say this because why I lost one of my cats a couple years ago I recently decided I was ready to open my hat to another cat in addition to the ones I have I found one a special-needs cat both a senior a 10 years old and an insulin independent diabetic with feeling unstable diabetes and I decided I wanted to select this hard to place a cat and give him the home of a lifetime However as I definitely am a premier adapter for this type of cat that is based on everything that I told them; yet not one thing was checked out not one I could've been lying through my teeth, but an abuser had no experience with medical needs cats particularly though was requiring injectable medication I could've had a massive criminal record I may have not had any pets at all or ever taking them to a rats they didn't ask for one reference not one Veterinary reference they didn't even validate anything I told them and decided I would be a perfect home for this cat and we're ready to send the cat home that same day; in fact pushing me to take it I guess to empty As it was not possible to do that on that day, I did indicate that I definitely wanted the cat and we'd be about the next day and they offered me the cats medical records suffice to say as rn critical care nurse in the human clinical areas I do know what I'm talking about when it comes to medicine and certainly a diabetes diagnosis that doesn't differ that much from animals to people; I found out this cats blood sugars were incredibly unstable this cat was in no way safe to discharge and clearly the cats life would be in jeopardy poor thing if it went to a home even inappropriate one not understanding how unstable this cat actually was if if that wasn't enough when I read the medical records I learned that not only was there an incorrect insulin dosage administered because of improper subcutaneous injection technique but that a major crash and blood sugar that required insulin to be discontinued for several days and then started was due to the insulin not being stored correctly IG refrigerated! How the F does this happen in a shelter connected to a Veterinary facility and the worst part is I communicated with every single individual and every single little apartment for the manage level right on up and I also contacted the executive offices no one cares and the shelter director could care less she hung up on me and told me I was rude just for pressuring her to explain what I was looking at in the medical records that's just I contacted WCVBNWHDH media outlets today just because both have a great relationship with Angela and help you know market or present their adoptable pets and I wanted to get the word out I am horrified I still have not heard from anyone and do not adopt a pet from that shelter without insisting that a vet before you adopted clear the animal in front of you and you read their medical records they should be shut down!! read more

My experience with MSPCA is usually really great aside from the costs. I was just there this past weekend because my dog was bleeding blood/throwing up and refusing to eat. I used the entirety of my savings to cover the bill. Of course my dog being a dog ate a portion of a chocolate cookie this morning when I went to shower. I was able to apply for care credit, was approved and nearly teared up because i truly didn't have the funds. I've been struggling financially since I was rear ended by an mbta bus while riding a bike. As a result I still use a cane for stability. Once I completed my application, I was informed by the emergency staff that because my care credit application is new they'd have to look me up. When I came to check out there was one front desk staff. She told me she would help when she was able. Since my accident it's been difficult to stand with just the cane without a stable surface to lean on. I also needed to use the rest room. When I came back 5 minutes later, the staff member was still moving around doing other tasks. Eventually I turned to another staff member, Mark. I asked if there was someone who can help me and he immediately got annoyed. I asked for them to bill me because I ordered a pet uber and wanted to catch it. He sighed with his whole body, asked for my name with a stone face and He said they'd bill me. I told him I had care credit and he grimaced and started speaking with me with a condescending tone. He said I'd have to call. I wasn't sure how care credit worked and assumed It could be charged without my presence. Mark was explaining how it worked with an attitude as if I was a nuisance to him. He was un-empathetic , mean, condescending, and dismissive. At one point I asked that he speak with me kindly because I wasn't being rude or disrespectful. Another staff member witnessed this. I told him I need help and he's here to help me not talk to me crazy. This entire encounter was disruptive enough for other patients/parents to witness and overhear. He then hollered out loud angrily to his coworkers can someone else help her?! The encounter with Mark led me to tears. I was then helped by another staff member who was extremely kind and understanding which is the norm. She apologized profusely after she saw I was crying at the counter. I explained that this was my second time in the ER this week. I've spent thousands of dollars just on my dog at mspca and I didn't need to be spoken to that way because I was already going through so much. It was extremely distressing. She gave me comforting words and expressed that she understood how I was feeling. My heart felt less heavy after our conversation but the tears did not stop until I got into an uber to head home. I felt like I was being treated like a thorn in his side. He then discarded me when his patience reach its limit after 2 minutes. There's a way to speak with people and that wasn't it. Customer service was completely absent during this conversation. His abrasive personality, devoid of compassion, was unnecessary and disheartening. I would hope that the next time someone comes in for an emergency, they DON'T have the pleasure of speaking with Mark while he interacts like this. I felt like he had his own frustrations/irritations and proceeded to use me as a mental/verbal punching bag despite the fact that I already felt so bogged down about my own things. It was so embarrassing and I felt like the center of negative attention. Even now I'm taking breaks as I write this because i was so worried and overwhelmed after my dog consumed chocolate. They took care of my baby and everything was great up until this encounter. Now the feeling of relief is overshadowed by this negative experience. read more

Everyone at Angell was so kind and understanding, especially with my not-so-cooperative cat. I was kept informed about all policies and procedures, and they answered my questions clearly and concisely. I also appreciated learning that if I wait on the premises, I won't be charged for a hospital stay. The follow-up call to check on how my cat was feeling was incredibly thoughtful. I'd like to add to my review from yesterday, I'm reading other reviews to gather information on what exactly others find to be positive in this "hospital". As I'm reading them...there are many reviews written exactly 4 months ago that are short AND ALL END WITH THE WORDS, "What I appreciated about...". and what looks like to be 100% FAKE positive reviews! Are you kidding me? They all end with the same sentence. They're all 4 months ago and they're all short reviews. Note the negative reviews are quite detailed and literally reflect exactly what it's like to be there! No one cares, no one works together and the double billing is outrageous! It's ALL about the money. This place is so sketchy and so concerned with the bottom line that they're having people write fake reviews? Whose bright idea was this???? These people astound me. Get it together Angell Memorial and AT LEAST try and have the fake reviews done so it's not so obvious. I'm not surprised they're doing this and I'm not surprised they did it all wrong. This is just how they are...unbelievably reckless, incompetent, not looking at the big picture, and as usual...just don't care enough to even do THIS properly. I'm so disgusted and truly hope others avoid a very frightening and simply tragic place. Wow! Thankfully I have discovered and always hear the most amazing things about the other 24 hour animal hospital in Charlestown, MA. It's the complete opposite and it's actually one of the most pleasant places to bring your pet, you're seen quickly, the biggest and most important difference is that here...the doctors know exactly what they're talking about, they speak with conviction and everything makes sense. You feel like you and your pet are in great hands and they go out of their way to ensure your experience here is nothing short of amazing...amazing to the point that you can't wait to tell everyone. BROKE BY WOKE by a RETIRED DVM Until several years ago, I considered this the absolute best facility for Veterinary Care anywhere on the East Coast. As a retired veterinarian, my criteria for judging is somewhat different than the average persons. However, within the last few years, the woke/rainbow agenda seems to have taken over and completely corrupted the quality of service this facility used to provide. Just last week, I brought in my dog for an ultrasound and CT. I found myself receiving an attitude almost from the onset: This attitude consisted of hostility bordering on contempt. I don't know if this had to do with my being a retired veterinarian, or my being a retired conservative Straight, white Christian male, or both, but it was marked and deliberate. Prior to imaging, no one would tell me what the protocol for anesthesia or sedation was going to be. In fact, two people I spoke to did not even know what "protocol" meant. After the fact, I found that my dog had gotten anesthesia suitable for protracted surgery, not imaging. The following week, I had to make multiple calls to get the radiology report for the CT performed released to me, accompanied by more of the same attitude. I had to remind the doctor I was speaking with multiple times that I was retired veterinarian, and yet she kept treating me like an absolute idiot. I will not be returning to Angell Memorial for anything. It's hard to put into words what a tremendous loss this is for pet owners everywhere. Unless you have a life-threatening emergency, I would not recommend this facility to anyone. It's a very far cry from what it used to be just a few years ago and treatment of a client should be uniform regardless of who that client is or what their political beliefs are. Once again, the segment of our population that rabidly spews about equity and inclusion seems unable to handle diversity that is outside of their accepted scope and this unfortunately seems to have a direct impact on the way they practice medicine. read more

Imagine being charged 9k before even walking out the door- only for them to resolve none of my cats issues (aside from drug him up so much where he couldn't see straight). My cat had chronic pain and could barely walk. A dermatologist I call on for work is the person who solved his issue by suggesting the medicine solensia- which is known for blocking pain signals. He is now 100% better since being on it. These morons meanwhile didn't even mention the medicine to me. All they could think of was to put him on a high dose of fetanyl, amongst other temporary/sedative pain meds while they treated him as nothing more than an experiment. And now are trying to come for me for the 2k they unjustly charged extra with ZERO solutions offered. Interestingly enough, Dr.Hussey (pathological liar) allowed my aunt to discharge him and told her "we didn't owe anything more" (if we did still owe- why would they have allowed us to take him home?!). I then reached out to their accounting department about a bill I recieved months later for the balance they originally claimed I owed for the extra days he stayed (their fault) and ultrasound I didn't agree to (their fault), to which the individual said "yes there's a note on your account about it. These warnings generate automatically so nothing I can do". Another lie! I recieved a threatening letter from a lawyer only a month later. These people are CROOKS!!!!! Do not go here. read more

I adopted a 15-year old cat in March. Or so I thought. After watching this "15-year old" cat, run, jump and be very playful, I doubted she was 15 years old. A month after adoption, I brought her to the vet and shared my thoughts. The shelter indicated she had muscle loss, needed dental surgery and so on. The vet disputed everything on her medical records. She examined her and indicated she was 5-7 years of age. When I arrived home, I called the shelter, just to let them know a mistake occurred and two cats were obviously switched. The woman I spoke to was incredibly rude and argued with me and with a Doctor's diagnosis. Because I was given the wrong cat, I was given the wrong medical records. The cat is sick and in four months I have spent $3,695 in medical bills. That is NOT including her two different vet foods and medications. I realize mistakes happen, but do better in responding with care. read more

Entitled tech came up to my dachshund who upon entering the emergency room and without introducing herself or what was wrong with my dog started handling him. This is not professional or respectful to the pet owners. My dachshund had a back injury and was in need of an MRI. I had every reason to believe that after being advised to go to MSPCA Angell from VCA Weymouth that he would receive an MRI. Instead, I was given a piece of paper with other places that could provide this urgent care. I will never go there again and advise if you want professionalism when time is of the essence then to avoid this place at all costs. read more

My kitten had surgery at Angell & was inappropriately took care & choked to death 2 days after surgery (never discharged). He had artery & esophagus problems & needed special care - fed in upright position & held upright for at least 30min after eating (told doctor during consultation) . However, surgery doctor instructed to hold upright for 5-10min only... Medical professions from different department didn't seem to work as a team. Even worst, most were young professions & not experienced enough to handle special case like my kitten. Surgery doctor neither listen the long upright holding need of my kitten nor personally taught the caretaker to do so. She should be the most knowledgeable in this situation but didn't bother to share knowledge with young professions. Hospital note states that kitten vomited large amount (see attachment). Neither the notes nor hospital explained what happened to him after surgery. Kitten like ours shouldn't fed 'large amount'. We trusted MSPCA Angell & admitted our precious one for operation. We ended up paying hospital to fix their human errors. Even worst, one after another eventually caused my kitten never discharge. Based on my experience, 1. Doctor in ER didn't know what happened & wanted to insert tracheostomy due to kitten's breathing difficulty. obviously he simply followed standard procedures... We emphasised to him kitten was inappropriately fed & should be held upright for ~30min but didn't want to. He finally agreed to monitor kitten first. 2. Doctors finished their part & left it to next department to handle. Surgery doctor supposed to know better on kitten's case. Sadly, surgery doctor told ER doctor the problem maybe food and left it to ICU to handle. She called us after kitten passed away & said feeding instructions were provided. 3. Kitten in the afternoon regurgitated some food & looked better. icu doctor still gave anti-nausea medication. Doctor should have noticed regurgitation eased kitten breathing issue & made adjustment?! 4. Doctor wasn't cautious enough. She took kitten out in the morning (for discharge) & had breathing difficulties. she put him back to ICU box. She also knew from latest X-ray he had food in esophagus. Still, she offered to take him out at 4pm to meet us in a room. We missed him a lot & accepted, which caused kitten choked again & died. 5. Hospital note was unclear on the feeding details in that morning after surgery for my kitten causing choked (see attachment) while other information was recorded in detailed. 6a. Doctors & caring team should meet pet owner to understand pet situation & tailor-made caring procedures for kitten, but none. 6b. Doctors/caretaker(s) didn't care much about animal life. we highlighted to doctors that kitten required long holding time after eating (see attachment). Yet, doctor gave instruction to hold kitten upright for 5-10min only, which was insufficient, even for other cats with megaesophagus (ME) problem. Also, kitten vomitted large amount, which shouldn't be, as even before surgery, small amount of food should be fed for ME cats. 6c. Special training for cating team should be provided. e.g. how to hold cats upright not to hurt them after surgery, how to prepare high platform for feeding, how much food, how diluted food, etc. Also, doctors mentioned bailey chair (usually for dogs) which was diffcuilt for cats and showed they didn't have much experience on cats with these issues. 7. Hospital lost our container with some wet food for kitten after surgery. We reminded doctor 2 times before & on the day kitten discharged but still it was unable to find. The container was my kitten's snack box & used on day 1 we adopted him. 8. Staff was not caring & no love. One staff came to talk to us on how to handle kitten's body. We chose cremated & staff asked about payment right away when we were still crying for losing our beloved kitten. 9. Check the bill before payment. We were charged 1 extra ICU hospitalization. It was troublesome to deal with account people for they said something incorrect to push you away. read more

Ive been holding back on providing this review, but Im ready to share my awful experience(perhaps not in great details). My dog passed away upon arrival to the hospital after seizing for 15 mins nonstop on our drive over. His heart beat stopped at the hospital's parking lot. Upon our arrival, there seems to be no urgency from front desk as we ran in with our dead pup in hand. Finally, Veterinarian asked if I wanted Cpr. I said of course. In the meantime, she wanted me to first check in with the receptionist who said something about the cost...at this point, I just wanted anything to bring my dog back. Shorty after performing perhaps 5mins of CPR, the Veterinarian came back out and asked if I wanted to continue CPR. Of course I was dumbfounded as to why they stopped. After all, aren't they the professionals? A few minutes later they tell me he didnt make it. We go into the back and was left there with the cadaver for what seemed for a long time u til I decided to go see if I can find anyone. When a different receptionist saw me, she said, "Oh, I was going to get you" as she held her clipboard. Im obviously crying and calling my loved ones to share the news and in the mist of this, she is asking me for payments. I opted to pay for a necropsy as my pup was only 6 months old. 1800 later, I had to chase them down for the results a few days later that was reported as idiopathic epilepsy ... in Laymans term it means they don't know why the dog had the epilepsy. So I asked if they tested him for any rodenticide or poison and they tell me that no they didn't that they're not sure that that's what caused it and that either way I will have to pay $300 more because they have to send it out to the lab and it could take 15 days. So I ask wasn't the necropsy so you can find out exactly what took place? This is still a long story so to cut it short, MSPCA has crappy, insensitive front desk personal, operator(didnt share what took place there) and a highway robbery to monopolized the situation as they are the only emergency animal Hospital after hours in the Boston area. I have no choice, but to go there in the future if I was to have another pet that requires an emergency needs. Do better! read more
