I just deleted my old review. While I feel as if the what I experienced is was wrong. Dr.G at the Charlestown location REALLY made an effort to listen to my concerns and validated my previous concerns from a non judgmental point of view and educating me on the way. There's seems to be a huge effort in working with me and my pup. I would like to give them another chance. In addition I would like to shout out Vet tech David Rivera. He was one of the first techs to see Lancelot and I have seen him at many clinics. Throughout the times I have been more difficult his customer services skill were always excellent and he always treated me with respect. I can definitely see his love for animals and the profession. When this place first opened,I was a big fan. Then they seemed to fall apart and get very disorganized. I was also twice given bad referrals for things they couldn't do onsite. One time I was sent out to Acton to get a root canal done on my cat. When I got there, the dentist there said it couldn't be done and she just extracted the tooth. For $1,000. I got referred to another place in Chatlestown for something else, because their relationship with the people who had been doing onsite had fallen apart. That one cost me over $1000 too,for something I was told would cost around $250. When I came in for the last few visits, nobody ever seemed to know why I was there. There seemed not to be communication or professionalism. Their prices were exorbitant, too! I really regret not having switched to my current vet sooner. read more

This review is for ABBY the new patient coordinator! I have been trying to find a new doctor for my dog who has had a persistent dental issue that has gone unfounded. I called to get a feel for this company. After 25 minutes of consulting with Abby and spilling all my grips on the ongoing issues I was blown away. Not only did she actually listen intently to everything, she put my mind at ease and was amazing! I told her there is no way she gets paid enough since I realized she doubles as a therapist lol. What an earth angel!!! I love her so much and never have met someone with such a beautiful soul that actually cares to take that time. Why can't the doctors be more like her haha. We went in for our new patient visit and the staff is also so nice. The Dr. we saw was Joey and she was also super sweet! The gentleman who is the anesthesiologist ( was also great at listening) I have high hopes that they will help solve the riddle that is my dogs health. TBD. They definitely care about animals (it wasn't rushed like most places) and they helped find a mass in my dog's rectum which took precedence over the dental for the moment. Unprofessional vets and full of tricks... We went to this vet because our dog broke her teeth and this is the earliest place that we can get appointment. Then we found this place always has a spot because of some reason... when we go into the place and meet the vet, she doesn't even look into my dog in detail but keep telling us "your dog is under great pain". While at the meantime, my dog is enjoying the treats and looks chill... then the doctor give us 5 bottle of medicine and tell us our dog need them for "anti-anxiety", which actually scares me because my dog never takes that much medicine even after the spay surgery. By the time I told the doctor that I don't want to take that much medicine, she suddenly becomes angry and keeps repeating "your dog is under great pain and this is the worst case I've ever seen in my whole career ". I know how my dog react when she is pain and it's definitely not the case. After leaving this clinic, I when to 5 more vets including emergency, all of them told me that my dog's teeth is not a big deal. Which proves that the doctor in this place is just a lier and trying to push me to pay for the medicine. I chose one of the other vet place to do the surgery and my dog is healthy and happy now. Once again, please avoid this vet and find somewhere else. Your dog deserves better rather than these unprofessional doctors who try to drug your dog and steal your money!!! read more

EDIT: my dog had 2 annual visits here, the most recent being 3 weeks ago with Dr. Joey. Yesterday, I had to rush my dog to the ER where he was diagnosed with such a severe level of hip dysplasia that he needs an urgent total hip replacement. Confused because this condition obviously didn't progress overnight, and at our last visit, Dr. joey barely touched his hips. At an ANNUAL PHYSICAL. for such a high risk breed as a GSD, hips should be a no brainer for the staff to be checking. Was left a voicemail from Dr. Lauren stating that vets are often "too busy" to do a full exam on your pets. This is an issue that should have been caught earlier at an annual appointment and not left to the point where it's now a surgical emergency. Go somewhere else. read more

My family have entrusted Boston Vet with four of our fur babies between my sister, financé and myself. Originally seeing Dr Randi who was incredible but has since left the practice. After Dr Randis departure we were moved under the care of Dr. Joey. Boston Vet always made the effort to see our animals quickly, and they run most diagnostics at the clinic allowing for quick results to most healthcare issues. Before my last experience, I would have recommended Boston Vet wholeheartedly. My low star review is based on my last interaction. My 5 year old golden retriever and love of my life passed away suddenly in July. Our family was completely devastated. When Dr Joey called after she passed to follow up, answer questions and offer condolences, I was in the thick of my grief. On the call with Dr Joey, I referenced the many vet visits/ hospital stays over the last 5 or 6 months trying to make sense of anything at that point. Dr Joey, in a lighthearted (and what I have to believe in her mind to be caring) tone said ...yeah, she was a bit of a lemon.... I was in complete shock. When I then started talking about what happened and that she made it through surgery, Dr Joey responded by saying ...she had surgery? Hold on, let me look at the notes here. I understand Boston Vet is a busy practice, however taking the time to read the notes sent over by the animal hospital before making this type of call should be common practice. The conversation was unprofessional, showed no compassion and in the end it made me feel even worse. This experience has forever changed my opinion of Boston Vet and I hope this review will be used as a teachable moment to ensure that no other family suffering from the pain of losing a loved one will ever experience such lack of empathy and compassion. My girl was not a lemon, not even a little, she was my heartbeat, and to me she was perfect. If Boston Vet really wants to be known as Boston's other family doctor... they need to act as such, especially when the day comes and we lose our beloved family members. read more

My cat did a single bunny kick while getting blood drawn - she was pretty sedate from gabapentin - and the tech said they'd go get the Vet (Chelsea Ruzzo) because she was a little quicker and should be able to get it done. A different tech came back and said the vet wasn't going to do it, and insisted I come back with my cat fully dosed on gabapentin. I had mentioned she only ate half of the second dose. I understand that there are reasons why a cat should be sent back home for another try next time. But I don't know how a vet can tell that that's the case without looking at the cat, especially when the vet tech felt like she was going to be able to do it. A huge waste of everyone's time, a huge waste of my cat's stress, and extremely disrespectful for the vet to not come in and either assess my cat herself or explain to me why she wouldn't be drawing blood and I was going to have to come back into the city with her another time. There's no way it's impossible to draw blood from a woozy cat just because she kicked once. Burrito the dang cat and get it done, or at least explain to me why that isn't the right path in that moment. It felt to me like she just wanted to get out of there for the day. I was honestly in shock. Later that night I reflected on my previous vet experiences with my other cat. I was there with him when he was put down, and my vet at the time (not BVC) gave us a quiet space, and was so kind with us, and let us take our time saying goodbye to our lil family member. I'm going to be there any time a pet of mine needs to be put down at the end of their life, to make sure they're as comfortable as possible and so they know they're loved. The thought of doing that in this place where I was rushed through, disrespected, and I don't feel like my cat was properly taken care of brought me to tears. I cancelled the follow-up appointment and am moving vets. read more

The clinic staff here is so nice and they're very patient every time I've brought my pets in for a visit. We have a cat with a lot of anxiety and they were able to give us a gabapentin Rx for her first visit there so she could be mildly sedated so she didn't freak out too much (or worse, escape) for the visit. Our dog loves the attention she gets from the front desk staff, she's also a particularly anxious dog, but she loves the pets and treats that are given to her. They also give us a choice of peanut butter or cheese to distract her when she needs vaccines, and it makes the process much smoother. While BVC is definitely one of the more expensive clinics in the area, we feel like our pets are in very good hands here. Our spay quote for our dog was about twice the amount of another clinic that quoted us, but the BVC facilities are clean and they seemed more knowledgeable about handling anesthesia with a small dog, so we were happy to pay more in order to make sure our dog was safe and getting quality care. When we recently had to get a dental cleaning for our dog, the price was also fairly expensive, but we trust the team at BVC is going to provide the highest quality care to our dog and we'd rather her be in good hands and pay more than the alternative. Dr. Joey in particular has been great with both our cat and dog and we enjoy every visit we have! read more

I would like to echo all the poor reviews written below. Specifically for Dr. Chelsea, unless your animal jumps for joy to be treated, she will insist on heavy medication regardless of reason for visit. My poor pup was a happy normal dog. After multiple visits where she was poked and prodded when they couldn't get a vein for a blood draw, she is fearful of every new office. She and everyone at this practice are vile human beings who hide being "fear free" to absolve themselves and hide behind their lack of competence in the field. Have you ever felt very calm in a stressful situation? Especially when it comes to your pet? This is how I feel when Boston Veterinary Clinic has my Dog, Bruiser. They are a no fear clinic which puts me at ease. The staff goes out of their way to help, and makes you feel ok when things aren't going well. Today Bruiser was back because he hurt his neck. The Surgeon came out to get him and wrapped him in a blanket to carry him in. Dr Brian stayed late today, just to see Bruiser himself. The front desk woman, Today I think Breana was so sweet and professional. This is the treatment I always get when I come here but today was very stressful and they made me feel ok. Andrea who typically helps me out is also extremely exceptional and is sometimes at the other location. Also, they have a very well thought out plan for dealing with animals during the pandemic so don't let that stop you! Thank you all so much for everything. I took my dog here for maybe a year or so. The first one or two visits were good - I appreciated the follow up I got after sick visits. But it grew increasingly downhill from there. To preface my review, I want to say that this clinic is a Fear-Free Clinic. Meaning they do everything they can to reduce the amount of stress in patients (i.e., avoiding restraint). When I first heard about this, I thought in theory this was a good idea. My dog typically gets anxious at vets, and when he does, he will display signs of aggression like growling and snapping. What comes with the Fear-Free concept that I wasn't aware of was that you will be forced to put your pet on medication or sedate them if they don't respond well to their behavioral approaches. My dog needed heartworm testing, which requires them to insert a needle into one of his veins. The vet tech administers this and seemed to lack experience. They spent several minutes trying to insert the needle in his vein. In the meantime, my dog was growing more anxious because they kept inserting the needle, wiggling it around, and missing the vein. A second vet tech came in and could not get the blood drawn either. In the end, we had to reschedule the visit and put our dog on anti-anxiety medication. Fast forward to the second visit. We administered the medicine as required. We were able to get him to calmly stay still in my partner's arms for a few minutes. Despite that, the techs were unable to find a vein. They had to use multiple needles, inserted the needle, took it back out, repeated this 5-10 times. This caused my dog to grow even more anxious - ultimately rendering the medication useless, and my dog eventually started to act difficult. They wanted to reschedule again and this time sedate my dog, just for a simple heartworm test. I didn't reschedule the visit. We ended up getting the heartworm test done at Petco. The veterinary doctor administered the test within 10 seconds. No sedation, and he had not been given medication. I am not opposed to medication and have administered gabapentin and trazodone prior to vet visits. I understand that we have to consider the safety of the vets and the vet techs. But I can't help but think the two heartworm test attempts by BVC were major contributing factors to increasing anxiety aggression given the vet techs were poking and prodding at him for several minutes. My dog has had this test administered TWICE by other providers with no issues and no full sedation. I understand vet techs in general administer bloodwork, but the BVC techs seemed to lack experience. I wish we were able to consult with a veterinary doctor before the anxiety escalated to the level it did on our second attempt. read more

I have been meaning to write this review since June, when I brought my Frenchie in to Dr. G for an exam. I cannot begin to say how amazing she is, as well as the whole staff in the Charlestown location. Everyone was so kind, and caring, and most of all patient. They took such good care of him! Dr. G even followed up with me a few times after the appointment to see how he was, and even helped me with an insurance question. Not something you want to bother the doctor with, but again, she was so helpful and nice. Also, special call out to David who was our vet tech! He was awesome! I really could go on and on. My dog is very nervous at the vet. We've had him for nearly 2.5 years and in that time we've taken him to three veterinary practices. This is the only one we have completely trusted! He's a nervous wreck when we get in, but once he calms down and gets some of those Polkadog treats from the front desk, he stops shaking. No dog really likes the vet (does any human like the doctor?) but the people here are always so considerate with him. They've never once tried to push him past his limit with procedures (nail cutting specifically) and are very considerate with how many shots they'll do at a time. I fully trust this vet practice to take care of my dog because they treat him like he's one of their own! Highly recommend. read more

I specifically would not recommend Dr Chelsea Ruzzo unless you have a people-loving, food-motivated dog; she apparantly believes all dogs must behave this way to recieve care, or else she requires that they are medicated in order to recieve care. She does not take the time to get to know your dog or utilize a behavioral approach (when asked why she wouldnt consider behavioral before chemical approach, she claimed treat-giving and pheromone diffusers were behavioral approaches that my dog failed to respond positively to. Meanwhile, my dog is not food motivated and she is shy with unfamiliar humans. Dr. Chelsea, who met my dog on our last two visits, and who felt my sog was anxious enough to require meds, used her profound 'behavioral approach' (/sarcasm) to assertively approached my dog and tried to shove a treat in her face. Obviously my dog shied away.) I have a shiba inu; my dog is very mild for the breed: she is not aggressive with people and does not bare her teeth or vocalize I had been a customer/ client of BVC on tremont street since I got my dog at 10 weeks thru this year-- 4 years. We've gone routinely and have been up to date with my dog's medical care. While she is shy and a little anxious, we've always been able to recieve care easily and quickly. Every other vet tech and vet has been pleased with my dog because she is such an easy shiba to deal with. In our wellnesss visit earlier this year, things went just as smoothly, however Dr. Chelsea recommended that I medicate my dog prior to visits. I didn't really see the need and told her that I would not. She didnt offer me any other options and strongly encouraged me to medicate my dog. I said that that I would not do so. No other comments were made on the matter before leaving that session. We then called to make our routine fall visit since another round of vaccines was due. The receptionist asked me if I had questions about my dogs pre-visit meds. I was a little surprised but told them that I wouldn't be medicating my dog, that I knew they had to document that I said 'no,' and that the vet could call me back but that my choice would not change so if that were a requirement, I could cancel the appointment and find another vet. I ended up having to repeat this phone call 2-3 more times playing phone tag; each time I got more annoyed. Finally on the day before the vet visit, a vet tech called and said I could bring my dog in without being medicated. Great. I drove 45 min in traffic to get to this appointment. I was aggitated when I arrived, knowing the doctor was going to discuss meds again because the vet tech told me she would. My dog fed off my energy so she was even more anxious. Regardless, Dr Chelsea still entered the room ready to harass my dog by approaching her immediately and shoving treats in her face, then proclaimed this is why I needed to medicate my dog. When I asked the Dr to use a behavioral approach, she claimed treat-giving and pheromone diffusers were behavioral treatment. She also tried to use random biology infor I work in rehab healthcare. This is not behavioral treatment. Using treats on a non-treat-motivated dog is not therapeutic; it's harassment. Approaching my not-people-loving dog assertively as soon as she entered the room is not theraputic; it's harassment. Dr. Chelsea is not using a fear-free approach. She tries to use fear to get you to do whatever she wants to bill for. She will use vague medical terms to try an make things sound more severe. (Im a rehab doctor for humans, so she was not fooling anyone.) There's no reason for a Dr to be this rigid about anxiety meds for a wellness visit tjat should take 15-30 min for a dog that has never had any issues, and who is not aggressive to people. I held BVC in high regards but if this is the new standard of care, and if the other doctors back up Dr Chelsea's behavior, then we will happily find care elsewhere. read more

Their treatment and care is okay, but their consideration for us humans was not. We went on 12/17/20, which was the day of a massive snowstorm. As it was within walking distance to where we lived, we walked our dog over. He hadn't been feeling good, so we were appreciative that they fit us in the day of. However, waiting for two hours in the middle of the snowstorm outside was excruciating. Although we understood the need to stay outside, I think that the clinic could have communicated that the tests they were going to do on our pup were going to take awhile. An hour and a half into waiting outside, they finally decided to turn their outdoor heaters on, but we were already beyond the point of cold. We tried to ask the employees several times how things were going, but upon opening their door, they would immediately usher us outside to follow Covid guidelines, but we couldn't help but see the staff all lounging on the floor. Parallel to their poor communication on how things were going, they also told us that the tests that they were going to do on him was going to cost us roughly $330. Of course we were going to agree to any test since our dog can't verbally communicate his symptoms to us. Imagine my surprise when the bill came back and it was suddenly $634. It cost another $89 for his urine test that they decided he needed the next day. All of his tests came back inconclusive, except the vet said his blood platelet level was a little low, so they wanted us to see a specialist. I haven't been back to this vet but my dog seems to be feeling fine now, so I'm a little miffed that I spent almost 1k for all his tests to come back inconclusively. I asked around and many people said that they are very pricey. If you can afford the care and want to drop the $$$ on your furry friend, then by all means, this is the place for you. However, I'm perfectly happy not bringing my dog back here since I don't want to experience hypothermia again in the middle of a snowstorm. read more

I recently got 2 kitties and both of them come to the BVC. They see Dr. Joey/Dr.Danielle, who've taken really good care of my kitties. I love that this clinic offers fear free treatments, which I feel is very important especially for new kitties during COVID19. Due to COVID19, we only drop off our furry friends and pick them back up when the examinations are over, which is why I love the idea of fear free, that I won't have to worry about my kitties being anxious or nervous :) They call you after settling your pet in and they really give you all the time you need to ask any questions you need. Everyone who works here love working with your pets and I really appreciate their enthusiasm as I can't be inside with my kitties, I can count on them to take very good care of them. I would suggest heading over a bit earlier than your appointment as their parking lot is not huge and there isn't always a guaranteed spot. Its not a really crowded area so there are places to park and sit in your car. Head over earlier to find a spot nearby :) But this location is right next to the ramp to 90 West and has very close access to the 93N and S. Its in a fairly convenient location. I highly recommend this clinic once again for the following reasons: fear free, how much the staff cares for your companians, and accessible! read more

Even though we've recently moved out of the city, we still make the trip in just to have our cat seen by Dr. Henry. The whole staff is wonderful, kind and dedicated to the well being of the animals that enter the facilities. I thought I had good vets before, until we started coming to BVC. Not one interaction could be any better. From booking an appointment through dental surgery and post-op. Every person I've interacted with is so kind, compassionate, and thoughtful. We see Dr. Randy and she is GREAT! Some vets I've been to before try to upswell everything. The staff at BVC educate us without upselling. They are trustworthy and transparent and truly have the pet in mind vs. making money. We have a 10 year old chihuahua and an adopted persian cat who we think is about 12. With two senior boys, it's so important they are getting great care. The chihuahua needed a dental cleaning and ultimately needed 14 teeth removed. The process was nerve wracking as he has never been under anesthesia. The staff called me to check in during the surgery, they checked in twice the following day. They sent us home with easy to follow, clear instructions. Can't say enough good things truly. read more

I've had dogs for 47 years, and I have never seen the practice of heavily drugging dogs for basic vet services such as vaccinations. this practice requires heavy doses of drugs to be given before any vaccinations. for example, I have a 35lb dog and they absolutely refuse to give a vaccine unless the dog received around 700 mg of Gabapentin + Trazadone And clinicians and worse yet, if the dog displays any normal behavior- such as move slightly, they will cancel. they have no issues dispensing large amounts of drugs as well- very questionable practices. Dogs are smart- they may not like the vet and will behave as such- unless they are aggressive, vets sh be able to manage such behaviors without drugging dogs. read more

Boston Veterinary Clinic is a positive experience from the time you call to make the appointment all the way through. They offer a fear-free experience for your furry family member which is ideal for my dog unfriendly St. Bernard. I would highly recommend them and have gone to them with both my St. Bernard's. I have worked with other vets in the past, and I can say without a doubt Dr. B is the most knowledgeable and patient veterinarian you will find. He went out of his way to accommodate Ted into his schedule ending up at dinner no doubt covered in drool. Large breed dogs have a unique set of concerns, and Dr. B was extremely knowledgable and patient in explaining what to look for and watch for with Ted's health. Without a doubt, I would highly recommend this practice and their providers. Lastly, their space is immaculate (until we got there). read more

Now it's RIDICULOUSLY expensive (like... double or triple the cost of 1-800-pet-meds) crowded and chaotic inside. The vet wanted to reschedule the checkup because my dog was too anxious (does any dog really like the vet though, knowing they've been stabbed by needles there?) and then the clinic charged me $77 for two anxiety pills and fecal panel. Then they refused to renew my dog's heartworm prescription. I'm taking my business somewhere else that is actually affordable and reasonable. read more

I adore BVC. My two rescue pets Ruby the dog and Munchin the cat both see Dr. Randi Henry. She has such a wonderful, even temperament is and super, super smart. Definitely not an alarmist, and I have found that she takes a pretty holistic approach to animal health and happiness. The waiting room is clean and happy, with fresh water for pets and people as well as polka-dog cod skin treats. It is set up in such a way that fearful or reactive pups can be at the far end without feeling banished. My dog loves coming here (except for the shots) and although my cat doesn't love anything, she was certainly more at ease here than my previous kitties have been elsewhere. Totally non-judgmental and staffed by true animal lovers. Even just being greeted by the front desk is a five star experience. They're so laid back and so well organized. One of my favorite things about this clinic is their email follow up. After each appointment I am emailed a copy of my receipt and a summary of results. They are GREAT about following up and truly put me at ease. They also offered a free dog first aid class at the North End Carnival of Dogs, where I received a free (and pretty comprehensive) first aid kit and manual. So great that they involve themselves in the community! BVC is pricier than my previous vet, but I am very happy with the services. Amazing staff!! Only reason for 3 stars is the pricing ! I am a new cat owner so I am not experienced with the vets so I went here! The staff is amazing. The place is very organized and clean. They have parking. If you are going here for convenience Of location/don't care about budget then this place is great... But I called others because I was a little shocked about the pricing and this place has you spending over 1k for a kitten plan. Their explanation is that includes neutering .. which is 600 according to them. I called several other places who estimated neutering at about 200. We've went to Boston Veterinary Clinic throughout the duration of our 3.5 years living in Boston. Aside from when our previous dog had to go to MSPCA Angell for specialist cardiac care, BVC had always been our preferred vet. Our current dog went to BVC since she was 8 weeks old (she's almost 2.5 years old now) until we moved away from the city last month, and we have nothing but a wonderful things to say about the staff and facility! Since we travel with our dog quite a bit, it's nice that they have a dedicated travel vet that handles all of the necessary paperwork and has it down to a science. Sure, it comes with a price, but the fact that such an option exists at BVC is amazing! The staff is friendly and our dog always seemed content at the office (perhaps the "fear free" is a thing, after all). The staff always handled her with care and were diligent about checking her vitals and her teeth every time we go in. They honestly seem to care about her well-being as much as we do, so I'm glad they weren't just rushing us in and out. We've heard so many nightmare stories about vets that if you find a good one, you stick with it! Now, on the topic of cost. I've seen a lot of people complain about pricing, and Boston Veterinary Clinic is certainly not the cheapest place to take your animals, but considering I don't bargain hunt for my own care, I don't focus on that aspect for my dog, either. My priority is always quality care, and thankfully, BVC has always provided that! We've definitely had some surprise costs here and there, but that's part of owning, caring, and frankly, spoiling a pet. If you want expensive, just wait until your dog has emergency care at MSPCA Angell (also worth it for the same reasons). We paid for a wellness plan for our pup during her first year, and it really helped keep some costs from creeping up, and we highly recommend it for a new puppy. Considering their location (they have their own parking lot which is a bonus for those driving to the vet), and BVC's quality of staff, wonderful facility, and their up-to-date equipment, pricing shouldn't surprise anyone. My wife worked in veterinary sales for a while, and if you know vets, they don't generally go into the business for the money. There's no insurance to foot the bill like when we go to the doctor. Every machine costs a lot of money (and they stay up-to-date with tech), every poop sample that gets tested costs money, every blood draw, everything costs money for all parties involved. The margins aren't great, so when I see our dog happy, healthy, and well-cared for, the costs shrink in my mind. You may find great care for cheaper elsewhere, but one thing I can guarantee is that you won't have to doubt the quality of care at Boston Veterinary Clinic. We are going to miss this place now that we've move out of Boston, but we're definitely thankful to their staff for all of the wonderful care they provided while we were in the city! read more

Overpriced.. try to sell you things you don't need for inflated price. This place used to be really good, but seems they care more about the business side of it. Meds were like 4 times the price elsewhere and the treatment care and even visits are in my opinion overpirced more so than other clinics... Long wait times and hold times. Your in and out though while they"examine" your pet. Female doctor I think name was katey she's was great and she's no longer there. Very kind personable, and fair never tried to shove unnecessary treatments products down your throat made you feel like you leave there satisfied with her service and treatments. She took her time not rushed you out. I think if they refobe their pricing on things it would be a decent place. Expect to be hosed here... read more

WARNING !!!! HIGHLY money oriented business. VERY incompetent veterinaries , I don't remember her name but two female veterinaries that took care of my dog couldn't diagnose anything and they let my dog go home like there was no problem at all (besides all red flags I was pointing). One week later .... he was paralyzed and I had to put him down. They were very good at selling me products related to fleas / ticks while my dog was in pain and getting his hear legs paralyzed . IT'S UP TO YOU to take your precious animal to see those VAULTERS or drive 1,2 miles more and give your beloved animal to a real HUMAN BEEING who cares for your animal, NOT the $$ like this guys. We love BVC - the staff, the office, the offerings, etc. When we first moved to Boston, I shopped a number of vets that were walkable for us as we live in the city. Only one made the cut. After all, I wouldn't trust just anyone with my fur baby. From day one, we knew that as long as we were going to be in Boston, this would be our vet. They did everything they could with our first chihuahua and referred us out to Angell, meanwhile checking in periodically to see how things were. Unfortunately, our senior chi eventually passed, but when we decided it was time for a puppy, we decided once again to trust BVC with our little one. And we still have not been disappointed. We opted for the platinum wellness plan and it was well worth the monthly fee for year one of her little life. We now have a different wellness plan that's based on her age and needs - and again, we are quite satisfied. We never have to wait long, the staff is always responsive, and everyone is just a pleasure to deal with. No complaints. We have never felt "unsold" to - rather we are often proactive in asking for different things when needed. Veterinary care is like anything else - you get what you pay for. And we feel that we get exceptional care at a reasonable price here. Especially because our little one doesn't seem to mind coming here either (as much as a dog would like going to the vet). read more

This vet's office was not a good match for our family or two pups. We had initial good interactions there, but started to notice a pattern of issues with our visits. We continue to really like Dr. Danielle and wish it was a better fit for us. When our youngest dog was spayed, they fit us in for her spay for which we were very grateful during COVID-19 - but then when we went to pick her up from the surgery their message system didn't work for us to announce our arrival and we waited in their parking lot for over an hour. When they finally called us after we kept calling their faulty message system, they told us we should have come to the door - which is against all the signs that say outside to wait in the car. This also happened at other visit where we couldn't connect with the phone system. As our dogs were labeled as high anxiety, we were asked to provide them with medications to reduce their anxiety for visits. After several unsuccessful vaccine attempts with one medication, our small Chihuahua mix dog was asked to take two medications for her anxiety for her latest vaccine that made her so sleepy and loopy that she could not even walk to go to the bathroom later that afternoon and had to be carried everywhere. While COVID-19 did make the separation from owners and environment more stressful, how loopy she was on the medication made us uncomfortable. The final straw for us was when our older dog developed a mass on his face. At first they advised against getting a sample from the cyst because he was anxious. I was very grateful for the vet that day at the Brookline office who was able to get the sample despite the anxiety of separation from owners and a new vets office. When we got the biopsy results back from the Brookline office that showed a benign tumor that could grow, they advised removal with our usual Tremont office. I asked the vet from Brookline if we can plan for removal in October, and she mentioned the surgery appointments were "booking quickly" and I shoulder try to get the procedure done on the sooner rather than later. When I called the Tremont site they said they did not have any surgery appointments until December. I asked if it was okay to wait until then, and they said they would check and never called me back. His tumor has already tripled in size, and it is starting to bother him. We have booked an appointment with another vet that will help us get it removed in October. read more

I was told by a few people this would be one of my best choices to get my puppy checked on. 1. They were disorganized, they had to close the place down for a few days then reschedule the appointments. When I called in ahead of time to confirm my appointment they acted clueless until they decided to actually look. 2. When I arrived they made me wait longer outside then set schedule as I called ahead of time to let them know I'm coming like they wanted. At least take my pet in so I'm not outside in the rain. 3. Speaking to the assistant on what I came in for, I told her all my concerns. But when I got my overview with the doctor Brian. He talked about a bunch of things that weren't even about anything I asked, he went on so fast that I didn't even get to ask him what about my actual concerns of what I came for? The assistant also said they would cut my pups nails and if it weren't for me asking again if it's done, the doctor acted clueless again showing how communication is messy. I go on to pay my huge bill for all the add ons and test they did not knowing it would be double what I'd expect. Then I was supposed to get my puppies test results next day, didn't get them til 2 days. And now emailing back and forth with the doctor he ignores my last few emails as we were going back and forth about medication and results. How nice it's been weeks too I thought I'd give it some time maybe be patient but nope. I want to give this place a second chance, but with a different doctor, and not doctor Brian. Whoever cut my puppies nails did a horrible job, half done not all were cut and his toes were bleeding. My puppy is very behaved and shouldn't have any problems with his nails being cut. read more

There aren't enough stars to give Boston Vet Clinic. We left our previous vet because we didn't agree with the way they handled our dog when he was anxious (they strapped a muzzle and leash on him in a back room and just rushed through drawing his blood). BVC takes "fear free", exemplifies it, and amplifies it. From the second we walk through the door, the staff at the front desk make our dog feel like a celebrity, showering him with compliments and treats. I, also, can't stress how amazing Dr. Bourquin and the other vets/vet techs are. They have done EVERYTHING in their power to make Jackson (our dog) feel comfortable and build trust with him (I'd give a bunch of examples, but I don't want this essay to turn into a book). I could go on and on, but just know that it doesn't get better than Boston Veterinary Clinic. P.s. their online systems (especially pet desk, which let's you earn reward points and redeem them for heart worm preventatives and other perks) make things so simple and convenient. read more

I took my puppy here today to see Dr. Lindsey and am very disappointed. I didn't even realize she was our doctor at first because she never introduced herself. She walked into the exam room and jumped right into her physical exam. My puppy loves people and she was so nervous about the way Dr. Lindsey approached her, she backed away, did not want to be pet, and cried out. I thought standard of care was to collect information before jumping into a physical exam. This office visit also offered me little to no information. For example, my puppy seems to have increased thirst over the past couple weeks. I specifically asked about what this could be a sign of, and never got an answer. As pet owners, we go to the vet looking for answers, advice, guidance and health information and I feel like I didn't get any of that out of Dr. Lindsey. She was in and out in less than 15 mins and i am now feeling baffled, and like I wasted my time and money. I was ultimately looking for a place close to home where I could get my puppy spayed but am now feeling very uncomfortable about trusting this veterinary clinic after my experience today. Dr. Lindsey couldn't even give me a age at which she would recommend my puppy get spayed. She referred to my adoption papers, which there was no recommendation, and didn't give any more guidance. I'm still absolutely clueless as to when my dog should get spayed. At the very least, Dr. Lindsey could have offered some information about the spaying process, how much time I should take off of work, ect. But she didn't. She simply told me this is not a procedure she, herself performs. No discussion of pros and cons of waiting to have the procedure done, nothing. Aside from Dr. Lindsey, the staff and the tech who helped us today were very kind. read more
