Brought Patrick in for a follow up visit with Dr. Leaf this AM for his ear. All is good, for the most part. She is a wonderful addition to Dr. Ulrich's practice, as is Dr. Mc.Gee. However, it breaks my heart to even rate Huron Veterinary anything less than 5 Stars. Why? Because I was told by Dr. Leaf that ALL FOLLOW UP CARE and any medications would be covered, which is okay by me. The Front Office and Vet Techs are claiming that's not the case, and I left there after Patrick's Appointment without scheduling another follow up, I was that upset. I think somebody somewhere is trying to double-dip me. I hope it's not the case, because if it is, then the City of Somerville and The State WILL BE GETTING INVOLVED.

I'm something of a crazy cat lady. You need to be when you have a high maintenance handicapped cat. In his seven years, my cat has seen over a dozen vets of varying quality from here to Alaska. How does Dr. Ulrich rank? Well, let's just say I am 99.9% certain that he is a cat god personified. I would follow that man anywhere, although my cat may feel differently about a longer trek. Dr. Ulrich is incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, compassionate, and just plain nuts about animals. Out of all my cat's former vets, only Dr. Ulrich recommended not vaccinating him in his healthy back legs in order to avoid possible injection site tumors. It was a relatively simple-sounding idea that had a lot of thought behind it. There may come a time when I'll have to make some important medical decisions on my cat's behalf, and I can't tell you how relieved I am that I'll have Dr. Ulrich to guide me. I completely trust his judgment. Given the popularity of the practice, they could charge just about anything they wanted and people would still pay. However, their prices are insanely reasonable. My cat has had two dental cleanings thus far which are typically spendy. Not at Huron! He had one in 2012 without extractions ($302) and another in 2014 with extractions ($394). And he once spent an entire day there for testing and monitoring as he was having trouble urinating ($155). I always end up spending less than I anticipated. They are also fantastic about getting your pet in quickly when an issue arises. Thankfully it's only happened a few times with my cat, but each time I called first thing in the morning and I was able to bring him in almost immediately. This is immensely important to me as one of my cat's former vets could not fit him in when he had a urine blockage, and I had to take him to an expensive emergency hospital instead. Thus concludes my review which has been over three years in the making. I would encourage anyone and everyone to switch vets immediately, but unfortunately, Huron rarely accepts new patients. But definitely keep on trying! Dr. Ulrich and the Huron team are in a category all their own, and I doubt another practice in Greater Boston could ever eclipse them.

I don't generally publish complaints but due to the vets unwillingness to discuss their errors, I feel obligated to warn any pet owners with vet-reactive dogs. When I moved to Somerville and brought my dog to Porter Square Vet, I was transparent that my dog is vet reactive. I mentioned that he doesn't like the vet in general but that he doesn't tolerate exams. I also mentioned that I had previously used a fear free vet who was willing to do sedation for annual exams / as needed to ensure adequate care. I was told we could consider that if it proved to be necessary. At my dog's first exam with them, I was given recommendations for dental hygiene products, which i purchase and utilized. At his last exam, I specifically asked about dental cleanings, as I had noticed a good amount of plaque build up on my dogs teeth when I was brushing them. The vet looked at my dogs mouth briefly and I was told it was necessary at that time. I brought my dog in this month due to non-specific behavior changes as well as some dietary issues and worsening bad breath. The vet offered a dental cleaning/check, which I agreed to. The procedure overall went fine, but I was told my dog had significant periodontal disease and that they had removed 14 teeth which was confusing considering I was told a dental clean was not warranted just 5 months prior. Upon voicing my frustration, I was told "the vet was unable to exam his teeth due to being muzzled for the exam." My dog requires additional vet care for which I sought a different practice since Porter Square Vet was unable to develop or follow an appropriate care plan and Porter Square Vet has now opted to ignore me.

From the moment we called ahead to say we were on our way, the staff were incredibly responsive and ready for us when we arrived. They quickly assessed the situation, diagnosed the issue, and carried out the necessary procedures. The clinic itself was very clean, welcoming, and well equipped. Dr. Estes explained everything clearly--what was happening, the prognosis, and what we should do next. The techs / nurses--Kim Nguyen, Kendra Baker, and Jennifer Ducharme--were also wonderful: professional, patient, and very caring. They were attentive throughout the entire process while our Pomeranian was undergoing sedation, and you could tell they genuinely cared. I'm sure they see situations like this every day, but they still treated our dog with the attention and care he needed. Small things like that matter. These are clearly very capable people who could work in many different fields--including human medicine--but they choose to care for pets, and it shows. I would absolutely recommend this clinic and would return again if needed. My one tip: call ahead so they can prepare for your arrival.

She needed immediate care, and many places were closed by that time. It was about 9pm, luckily VEG ER was open, we called and brought our hamster 15 minutes later. They immediately jumped into action checking her symptoms and seeing whatever they could do to help her. Eventually, we were told that she had Urinary Tract Infection, we were offered a few solutions, but one of the main veterinarians who was helping, gently told us the likely outcome. We were able to say goodbye to the hamster, and my daughter got to hold her up to almost the end. They led us into a room so that my daughter and I could discuss next steps, they gave us time and they were very understanding. When we received our pet in her urn, we also received a handwritten card with the signatures of all the VEG ER employees who were telling us that they were sorry for our loss. It was a very sentimental time, and we appreciate everything that VEG ER did for us. If anything every happens to your pet, I recommend VEG ER because of their kindness, also, they are open 24/7 so there is always someone there to help you and your beloved companion.

This time with my cat Joyce I hoped to find a vet who could come to our home. I was so relieved when Dr. Parent answered the phone and was available, especially so close to the holidays. I was anxious and dysregulated but she was easy to talk to and respectful. When she arrived at my house, she was thoughtful and prepared; she took such good care of several things that I hadn't considered. I carried him upstairs, he got a shot (which he didn't love but I think it was just a quick prick), he rested in bed with me against my leg and I pet him in his favorite spot between his shoulder blades while I talked to Dr. Parent (I have read that they are comforted by hearing the sound of your voice), soon he fell asleep, and then few minutes later he was gone. Selfishly it feels unbearable to be without him but I know he is no longer suffering. During our last difficult days together I promised him I would make sure he felt better as soon as possible, and his final moments in life were painless, comfortable, peaceful, in his home and resting in bed with me. I am grateful to Dr. Parent for making that possible.
