I've been at this location a few times. My Chino tends to be a handful in the way a small dog who was way too smart tend to be. My last visit would sadly be my last as my family made the difficult and painful decision to put him down. Its taken me a little over a week to write something but I know I wanted to tell everyone about this location. Numerous issues, including a cancer diagnosis,coupled with his old age after a surgery at his home vet. The staff were always so sweet and caring with him. They even managed to entertain him with some classical music when he was a little yappy! He lived a long, happy spoiled life. I miss him everyday. My first pet out of high school, we were almost never apart. I think that knowing he was in the best possible hands near the end helped take some of my guilt grief away. Every single person was amazing and I just know that profession cannot be easy. God, my sister and I cried for hours and we were never rushed. Dr.Silverstone, thank you for always being straight with us but also extremely professional and kind. They contract out to help with end of life arrangements and cremation, if you choose. 'epaws' or something. The arrangements were done quickly but not so quickly that you worry about disrespect, you know? A week later and I have his urn and we've set up a memorial in the house for him. No one wants to think about these things but pricing is transparent and gotten out of the way quickly. And yes, it's pricy but what isn't? This is emergency care. Get pet insurance!!!! Honestly, I would have gone bankrupt if it helped but there is unfortunately a limit to things that can be treated and the doctor said it best: "age is not a disease". So hopefully your fur babies live long, happy lives and that you only have to go for minor inconveniences but if you do have an emergency, this location was clean, professional and fairly easy to get to. I had broken my ankle last year so walking has been a challenge but I got around just fine, even carrying around my 20lb lump of love. Thank you all again. I don't know when I'll be ready for another pet but I don't regret all the years of love. Once time has softened the pain, and years go by, I hope you all stick around and do what you ALL have done so well and maybe I'll see you again...Hopefully under better circumstances. Veg is the type of vet you go to once and never go back. Not because they don't solve the issue but more because they don't at all take your recommendation and go through hoops to get to the problem and you pay up the wazoo. It's also run by a younger vets where you may want experience when treating your cat dog etc.. that being said I wouldn't go back. read more

My friend and I were on our way to run a 5k. We had just gotten off the train and walked a couple blocks when we noticed a fluff ball on the ground. Initially we thought the bird was dead, but it wasn't. However, it was very lethargic. We tried to provide it some heat and thought it might be a good idea to bring it to Boston commons. On our way there, we stumbled upon VEG ER for pets which was open 24 hours and had images of birds and other animals displaying on their TV (it can be care to find vets that care for avians). They let us in, we explained the situation, and they gave us two fair options - let the vet check it out and if they determine there is little hope for recovery, ethically euthanize it, or, if it does show signs of recovery after 30 min - 1 hr, they'd bring it to Boston Commons. We didn't have time to stick around for the final decision, but I do hope it did recover. The staff there was really friendly, thanked us for being good Samaritans, and had us fill out a form. They also did offer us complimentary snacks and beverages. I was satisfied with my unexpected visit here. read more

I would highly recommend Veg ER for Pets, and here is why. On February 8, 2026, my beloved cat of over 18 years suddenly became very sick. She was throwing up, gasping for air, losing control of her bowels, and her eyes appeared slightly bulged. I was terrified and had no idea what to do. I called 311, searched for nearby emergency vets, and came across Veg ER for Pets. When I called, I explained my cat's condition, and they immediately urged me to bring her in. I arrived around 2:00 a.m., and the staff greeted me right away and quickly began triaging my cat, Gia. Unfortunately, Gia was extremely ill, and her chances of survival were very slim. I ultimately made the heartbreaking decision to let her go peacefully. I want to give a huge acknowledgment to the Veg ER team for their compassion during one of the hardest moments of my life. Dr. Ciona and the nursing team Rachel, Geo, Kasey, Sophia, and Tracey worked together with such care and empathy. They made sure both Gia and I were as comfortable as possible, and they gave me the time I needed to be with her before saying goodbye. Thank god for this place!! I ended up at VEG with my mother and her dog based on the list Angel memorial gave to us as they had a 6+ hour wait at 10:30 pm on a Saturday night. The wait at VEG was 1-1.5 hours. There was tons of street parking. The waiting area was very clean and they had water and free snacks. The staff including the DVM were all nice and professional. The only thing I did not like was that the door to the ER/operating room was open and you could see what they were doing from the lobby. It amplified the noise of crying and whining dogs. We drove into the city from Brookline and I'd go there again in a heartbeat given the positive experience we had. read more

This past week my dog Macy got into some trash and ended up eating 2 cobs of corn. We took her to VEG around 2:00 am and despite how late it was, every single person was cheery and beyond kind to us. The open concept allowed us to stay with our dog as they evaluated her and it made my dogs anxiety much more manageable. They suggested we come back for a second visit to make sure she was okay and I'm so glad we did because my pup ended up needing surgery to remove the corn cobs due to a blockage. Dr. Mader and every single staff person we encountered was so professional. They even offered to set up an air mattress for us and let us order food since we had such a long stay. I really haven't experienced customer service like this before and I couldn't recommend them more. I'm so attached to my dog and had so many nerves when she got sick. I have been to VEG twice, for very different reasons, and both experiences were incredibly impressive. The first time I needed their emergency services was for my 14 year old dog who awoke clearly in distress during the night. We hurried to VEG where they took X-rays they saw that his stomach had turned. The Dr. explained my options and helped me through the agonizing decision to put my dog down with true care and compassion. It was brutal but I was so appreciative. Today, 2 1/2 years later, I brought my 6 mos old puppy in on Sunday AM with an infected neuter incision he woke up with. The office was busy but all of the staff were welcoming and positive and made us feel so comfortable. He had a great time, despite his discomfort! And we were in and out in Just over an hour with meds in hand. The open floor plan, comfortable seating, coffee and snacks, the model of keeping pet parents with their pets, and the caring attitude of all the staff, really works. While it's never good to need an emergency vet, I'm so glad VEG is in my neighborhood. They are open concept, so owners can sit with their animals while the whole time. My dog was admitted last night and they offered me a private consult room with an air mattress in case I wanted to spend the night with him. Though I opted to go home, they set up a room for us during the day so that I could work from there and spend the day with him. The whole staff was lovely. It's clear that they all care deeply about the work they do. I spoke with one tech for a while and she told me the company really takes care of the staff, which makes it easier for them to fully commit to patient care. Absolutely wonderful and caring staff 24/7/365! I've taken two pets there in two years and I owe them for saving my cats life! Vets and vet techs are top notch professionals but also terrific human beings. You can tell they absolutely care for the well-being of your animal and communication is excellent. The overnight vet was texting me giving me updates which is incredible as patients are monitored 24/7. My only gripe is you should be forewarned they charge PER HOUR for hospital stays as well as IV and monitoring and this can end up being outrageously expensive as my cat ended up staying over 50 hours and I had a massive sticker shock when the bill was presented to me. Definitely take your pet here in an absolute emergency especially if you live close by and it's off-hours. If it's during daytime hours another clinic might be a better option if you are budget conscious and not an absolute life and death but urgent situation. read more

Sadly my kitten was beyond help. We ended up having to euthanize him here due to FIP. We were heartbroken I went to an ER before going here that was horrible and were told he was fine but I guess it was a blessing in disguise so we could be treated with kindness at this location with our kittens final hours. Everyone was so kind and helpful and most importantly sympathetic to us. It was also a clean facility, we have a private room, and we were able to take our time and grieve. I will forever be grateful to this facility for making one of the worst days of my life a little more bearable. When I was a hysterical, crying mess, everyone at VEG was kind, caring, professional, and didn't make me feel weird or embarrassed for being panicked and hysterical. They took in Harper instantly, and within 30 minutes had given her an IV and medicine. We were in and out quickly, with exceptional advice about how to get her better. I am so grateful to the amazing people at VEG. I came in with my dog about a year ago, when I clipped her nail too short and it wasn't stopping bleeding for hours. We came in thru the back because we were stressed and couldn't find the right entrance, but they opened the door to us and found us a place to sit anyway. They got the bleeding to stop pretty quickly and let us hang out for a while to be sure it was done. Sent us home with some more of the medicine in case it started up again, and didn't even charge us for the visit! Then today, I called them up because my dog was experiencing a skin issue that started from her regular vet. The person on the phone advised me to send an email with photos so they could make suggestions without us having to come in and wait/pay. Within an hour a vet called me back and made recommendations of how to treat my dog at home. Super compassionate, generous, capable staff. If I ever have a really serious emergency with my dog, I feel very comforted knowing that I have an incredible place to go to to get her help. read more

Surgeon almost took out the wrong hip because VEG Boston mislabeled the x-rays left vs. right. I took my dog to VEG Boston concerned about his left hip because he was limping and screaming in pain after a visit to the beach earlier that day. After x-rays were taken, to our surprise, the vet stated it was actually his right hip and walked me into the x-ray room to look at the images. I expressed my concern when I noticed that the right and left labels seemed backwards, but the vet expressed that "it's sometimes confusing in dog x-rays." According to the report - the x-ray was ordered for NWB on the left side, as supported by the notes written from the visit stating he was NWB on the left side. The official radiology report states that there is no explanation for the lameness on the left side - indicating some confusion because the x-ray was ordered for the left hip - all red flags indicating that the images should have been redone. My dog was shaved and put under sedation at a specialist out of state to remove the right hip when they decided to redo the images because something wasn't right and thank god they did because they caught the mistake made by VEG Boston. My dog is currently walking around in pain at risk for hip dislocation because we had to postpone surgery due to the massive error made at this ER. stay away. read more

Could not be happier with my visit here. My son Chatty was having urinary issues for the past couple of weeks and I was already feeling a bit burned by my experience at Blue Pearl when I decided to come here for his second emergency visit within 2 weeks. Whoever answered the phone was already much more professional and helpful with triaging the situation than the other emergency rooms I had called that evening. When I got Chatty in, the team was efficient, compassionate, and I never got the feeling that they were trying to upsell me on unnecessary services. They laid out their recommendations and worked with me to create a treatment plan we were all on board with. I even received a message from the evening vet when she signed out to the late night team with updates on Chatty's condition and an additional test she ordered that was at no cost to me. I also think the prices are better than Blue Pearl. Finally, the layout of the clinical area is that pet owners can be very close to the "action" of the treatment. I understand this may not be for everyone but I appreciated being able to see how my pet was being treated by the team (they were very gentle and professional). I also work in healthcare so am not squeamish around needles or blood. Street parking was easy in the evening and morning hours. I do not have the right words to describe what amazing care we received here. Dr. Mader and her team were unbelievable. Our Cooper unfortunately woke up in the middle of the night coughing and throwing up. We called VEG and we were met with immediate help, directions, and once we arrived there was a whole team ready to care care of our pup. While the diagnosis has broken our hearts, Dr. Maynard and her team were so incredibly caring, empathetic, and knowledgable. The hospital is also set up as small rooms so you are able to stay with your pet the entire time he/she is receiving care which is incredibly comforting. The team at VEG provided our pet with everything possible and shared with us actionable and informative next steps. We saw a Cardiologist the next morning per recommendation and now have our dog on a medical regimen that will hopefully keep him comfortable with us at home for months to come. I recently received care at the MGH emergency room and am blown away by the difference of care between a human hospital and this pet hospital. Quite honestly, if I were given the choice I would want this team caring for me over any other. I had to take my dog to the emergency vet because she not feeling so well. As soon as i walked in, I was greeted and brought to the exam area. They introduced me to the staff when I was walked back to the open exam area with my dog. The check in was quick and I liked how it was all done electronically(yay on no paperwork to fill out). The vet performed an assessment and gave his recommendations in an informative and professional manner. All the techs were amazing, my dog was dehydrated and also has bad veins for blood draws so ALL the techs were on board to help and try to get her labs done. They held her gently while the other tech was trying to get her blood draw. I initially didn't think she needed labs done but decided to do it since my dog seemed so sick. The vet was understanding and agreed, I received the consent to sign for the labs through my phone and it was done quickly. I was not used to the open exam area at first but at the end of the visit I understood why that was important. When I was in the hospital a little over a year ago my granddaughter was keeping chance for me he was having a seizure, so she took him to VEG they charged me $600.00 plus a prescription not included to tell her that he's having a bad seizure and that she should take him to his regular vet in the morning. I will never bring my dog here again. I was staying in Southie when my dog's anal glad ruptured. Normally I would have taken her to Angell but because of our location and timing I tried out VEG. First, the procedure cost twice the amount as at Angell. But ok I need to get this done asap, let's just let them do it. They made a few small mistakes early on that I brushed aside. But after the procedure, they couldn't get my dog to wake up. They spend 30-45 minutes trying to get her to wake up with cutting her toenails, pumping her legs, q-tips in the ears, poking, prodding and everything else. They hooked her back to the vitals machine 3 times, as they said, "better to be safe than sorry". Finally they administered Narcan and brought her out of her stupor. Yes, Narcan. The drug that reverses the affects of opiates in an overdose. When we left, the receptionist happily told me they discounted $150. When I checked my bill it was for the drugs they gave too much of, and the Narcan. Oh, Great, thanks. I stayed calm during it all but broke down after we left. read more

If you're a pet owner, you know how scary it can be when our fur babies suddenly get sick out of nowhere. That's why 24 hour clinics like VEG are such a blessing. I came in on a Saturday morning with a cat that wouldn't stop vomiting and was greeted warmly by Chris and the triage team. The clinic seems to get busier as the day goes on, but we were lucky to be seen almost immediately. There are various waiting areas you can sit in, in case you have a pet who gets stressed by the presence of other animals. They also make sure your furry companion is as comfortable as he/she can be. From the moment I walked in, I instantly felt reassured that my cat Tibby was in good hands. The staff were so sweet and interacted lovingly with every patient as if it were their own pet, no matter how busy it got. Dr. Roy and her team were very professional and attentive. They allowed me to stay with Tibby for as long as I wanted, even offering me a chair and water while I waited for them to prep him for surgery. There were a few hiccups regarding the diagnostics and when the receptionist helped me apply for CareCredit. I also didn't receive update texts about Tibby when he stayed overnight as was promised. It was only when I called the front desk myself that they informed me he would be ready to be picked up later in the afternoon. Being that this is an emergency clinic, things can get pretty hectic and I'm sure it just slipped their mind. In addition, when I came to pick Tibby up after his surgery, Dr. Roy took the time to sit down with me and address all my concerns. She was extremely understanding and empathetic, and I can tell that her patients' and clients' satisfaction is of utmost importance to her. She went out of her way to help me and even gave me her contact information in case I had any questions come up after. Overall, this is one of the best vet clinics I've been to, from the friendliness and genuine kindness of all the staff, to their transparency and professionalism. We had a great experience with this team and I'm so grateful that we have a 24 hour clinic nearby that we trust! The night before we were supposed to go on vacation, we came home to a winky cat. There was something wrong with his eye and we needed someone to look at him ASAP. When we arrived at the clinic around 8pm on Thursday night, there wasn't any wait and the people checking us in were super nice. Of course, by the time we got to the vet, his eye was doing much better But the vet was still generous with his time and looked at Figgy's eyes. We were particularly worried he may have gotten into cleaning solution or something and he could have licked his paw, so the vet gave him a full exam and took his temperature to make sure he was 100% ok before we left town the next day. He was so patient and nice even though we seemed like crazy cat parents. Our cat was totally fine -- and the vet didn't even charge us for the exam! (If you happen to end up in a similar situation or just have an extra awesome experience, their website accepts donations.) We are so grateful to the VEG team! Last week our puppy Rover started seriously declining, when we brought him in at 12am on Friday - the staff was wonderful to us from the very beginning. Dr.Cabral saw us shortly after, made us feel comfortable and explained the options we have. We decided to keep Rover over 2 nights and throughout that time the VEG team was there for us every second. They let us know we can be there as much as we want, were always available to answer our questions and calm us down and most importantly, our boy felt significantly better over the matter of two days. We were in distress and were terrified, but the VEG team provided so much care and support to us and our puppy and truly helped us through that time. I ended up at VEG after going to Angell and finding out I was going to be there for hours before even being seen... it's so hard finding a vet that will see exotic pets in general, never mind quickly. I'm so grateful for ending up at VEG. From the time I walked in, to the time I left the experience was awesome! Staff, vet tech and vet were all so pleasant and saw my little Alphie as soon as we arrived (we lucked out that there was no one ahead of us) We were in and out in about 2 hrs. Alphie needed an abscess drained then needed antibiotics/pain meds to heal. The staff pre measured his meds for 14 days (38 syringes!!!) I've never had a hospital take the extra time to do that. It's stressful enough when you have a sick animal but the staff at VEG are awesome and I'm so grateful for their professionalism and quality care!! Alphie says "wheel, week, wheek" which is guinea pig for "thank you for taking such great care of me" I ended up at VEG after going to Angell and finding out I was going to be there for hours before even being seen... it's so hard finding a vet that will see exotic pets in general, never mind quickly. I'm so grateful for ending up at VEG. From the time I walked in, to the time I left the experience was awesome! Staff, vet tech and vet were all so pleasant and saw my little Alphie as soon as we arrived (we lucked out that there was no one ahead of us) We're in and out in about 2 hrs. Alphie needed an abscess drained then needed antibiotics/pain meds to heal. The staff pre measured his meds for 14 days (38 syringes!!!) I've never had a hospital take the extra time to do that. It's stressful enough when you have a sick animal but the staff at VEG are awesome and I'm so grateful for their professionalism and quality care!! As we all know bringing your baby to get emergency care is very anxiety inducing. Not only are you scared for what's happening but not knowing how much it's going to cost to get them treated is extremely stressful. I brought my cat in for a possible UTI and not only did they get her seen as quickly as possible but they also were extremely visible right away about pricing and all potential costs (very much a relief for those like me who are on a budget), they also were extremely honest about what tests and treatments they thought were necessary and which could be scheduled at a later date for a lower cost with our primary vet. Their love of animals and their job does not go unnoticed, the way they not only interacted with my cat but also with every other animal there only boosted my confidence that I had brought my fur baby to the right place. They were so accommodating of my cat and her particular needs - they made sure she was as comfortable as could be 100% of the time. I would particularly like to shout out Sydney who worked up at the front - she was so upbeat, warm, and thoughtful. I was extremely anxious and scared, especially being there by myself and she was so accommodating offering snacks and water, sitting with my fur girl while I used the restroom, and offering conversation to distract my anxious thoughts I would also like to shout out the vet tech (who's name I can't remember and feel horrible about) who was told I had a bit of an anxious kitty and brought a towel to drape over her carrier so she would feel safer I (of course) hope to never need emergency pet care again but if I do I will 100% be coming back here read more

I have never had such a negative experience at VEG until last night. I have been bringing my dog to the downtown location for the past two years that we have been living in Boston and was always received with exceptional and attentive care. However, last night when I brought my dog in, we waited for 1.5 hours and was never seen. There were two other owners with their pets ahead of us and they also were waiting for one hour until they both decided to leave because the vet on duty at that time could not provide a time estimate for when they could be seen. Granted the vet was busy when I first entered with another animal needing prioritized attention. However, after that animal was tended to, from the customer perspective, the vet and vet tech staff were not tending to any of the out-patient clients. Staff were eating their dinners, emptying trash cans, on their phones, and even crowding around a bag of cupcakes that was just brought in for them. While I was there, a new animal was brought into a room and one of the staff asked the team to triage that animal. One of the staff said they would do it, but 20 minutes later when asked if that animal was triaged yet the staff member who said they would do it said, "Oh I forgot." However, during those 20 minutes, this staff was talking to other staff deciding which cupcake she wanted. At the 1.5 hour mark, I asked one of the staff how much longer since my parking meter was almost up and she said she will ask the vet. 15 minutes passed and I did not see my question being asked to the vet even though the vet was in the room on her computer and the staff was wandering around the room doing misc. tasks. When the staff came back near me, I asked her, "Are you going to ask the vet or can I ask her directly myself?" To which she said, "Oh I forgot." I also witnessed the first animal who needed immediate attention - the owner came out of the room saying he needed to ask the vet a question, to which a staff member said they would let the vet know and to go back in the room. I never saw that staff let the vet know that the owner wants to speak with them. 3 different staff: Forgetfulness seems to be a common theme amongst this crew. VEG Downtown Boston location 2/12/24: 1 vet, 5 staff on duty, and 0 sense of urgency, inter-personal skills, and quality patient care. We ultimately left after 1 hour and 40 minutes of waiting to even be acknowledged by the vet. We went to the Cambridge location and was happily greeted and treated with the level of patient care VEG prides itself in. As I disclosed earlier, I have enjoyed coming to the downtown location and never had any problems in the past... perhaps Monday evening's crew should just be avoided moving forward. read more

....So an update because, my dog refused to take her pills I ended up going back, to have the staff show me how to administer it... How can an AMAZING PLACE get any better?! I can honestly say, it's been a long while since I've been to a place that has outstanding customer service. This is that place. The care & compassion for pets & pet parents is unmatched. They treated my yorkipoo "Favorite" with the GREATEST CARE. Even in times she was being the most difficult. The facility is SPOTLESS & welcoming, paired w/ extremely knowledgeable staff, that is COMMITTED to saving animal lives & mending the hearts of pet moms & dads. My fur baby is on day two of her medications, from a vicious cold that was trying to take her away from me. She is currently back eating, drinking, active & lively. ALL thanks to this place!
