While Poopsi was alive she always treated him with lots of love and care, and while my mom and I were unable emotionally witness the final hrs of poopsi's life, Lina stayed with him to make sure that he is gone peacefully. If you want a condescending, short, and rude vet then this is the one for you. I've never met such a cold vet for no reason. I brought my bird in because her voice seemed more hoarse and everything went great initially. Then, Dr. McMillan came out to go over the results and was one of the rudest, most dislikable people I've ever met. Rather than just suggesting a new, better diet she started shaming me and speaking to me like I was an idiot. Very unprofessional. A few weeks later I needed to bring her in as she was acting strange and I was worried that the antibiotics needed to be restarted. I can't remember for sure but I believe Windhover was closed. I brought her to Angell 24 hour emergency vet in Boston. Well a month after that I needed a recheck and decided to try them again, as everyone has bad days and I wanted to give them another chance. I was informed that dr. McMillan would not see me again since I had my records transferred to Angell. Wtf? The woman on the phone, Joan, was rude about it as well and you could tell she just wanted to get me off the phone. It's the most bizarre thing I've ever heard. With the lack of avian specialized vets you would think one of the few wouldn't turn you away for going somewhere else. If you look at other reviews on other platforms you will see that this doctor has a reputation for her bad attitude going back many years and this is not an isolated incident. read more

I had to make a last minute emergency appointment close to closing time, for my beloved cat who was passing away. They were nothing but kind, compassionate, and understanding. Colleen and Dr MacMillan were so very caring and thoughtful, talking me through what had happened. They were kind enough to bring water and Kleenex to the car, and gifted me with a lovely memorial candle. I'll be using them henceforth for my other pets, under better circumstances. I just got dismissed by Kristen at Windover Vet Center for letting her know I was quite upset that they don't have any emergency time at any time during hours. My puppy was not well with vomiting and diarrhea and called Windhover who said they couldn't fit in my puppy. I said I was a client but that didn't matter. They called me today to schedule some blood work for my puppy and I said I was very disappointed by the lack of caring I received the other day. Kristen said I don't need to hear this and you can go find another vet. She dismissed me and hung up on me. So sad that an animal vet treats people like this. Horrible Kristen!! read more

My cockatiel was under Windhover's care for 6 weeks. He was diagnosed with high levels of lead in his system, which was wreaking havoc on him. The veterinary assistant, Lena, was wonderful, calling twice a day to check on my bird. After 6 weeks of little to no progress, I called Windhover and stated that I was very happy with their service and intended to continue with them, but that I wanted my bird's records to get a second opinion on what might be going on with him. I stated that I intended to take him to Holmes Veterinary in Walpole. I didn't realize at the time, but Dr. Holmes used to work at Windhover. Windhover sent me my bird's records and informed me that Dr. McMillan, the vet, asked me not to return to the practice. I was told that she had a policy, which is unwritten and of which she does not inform her clients, that if you ask for your pet's records to seek a second opinion that you are immediately discharged from Windhover. I find Dr. McMillan's behavior in this case to be unprofessional, as she is putting her personal feelings about a former colleague ahead of the best interest of her patient. Further, the doctor would not even tell me herself and instead forced her staff to give me the news. her decision to discharge us while my bird , her patient, has a potentially fatal condition leaves us scrambling to find care. I will be taking my business to a more professional veterinarian who I can rely upon as a partner in the care of my pets. read more

I had brought in my cat as a kitten and was pleased with the care she received. However, today I went in since my cat had a run-in with a bat. Her rabies vaccine had expired and I wanted to get her a booster. The vet came out and started scolding me, telling me that my cat would normally be euthanized. She reduced me to tears. I said "I'm sorry" and she proceeded to shame me for letting her vaccination expire, saying "WELL, it's not my problem. It's yours." She called animal control and gave me very little information on what was happening until the very end. Luckily, my cat is home and vaccinated despite the terrifying possibilities she threw at me. She was cruel and rude to me during a scary situation where I was already trying to hold it together. They also overcharge on top of everything else. DO NOT come to this vet. I still can't believe that all just happened. Update: Animal control just came to my house and fined me, issuing a quarantine for my INDOOR cats. A bat came into my house. That's all. I did the right thing and got my cats vaccinated. This isn't right. What this vet did wasn't right. read more

I would never return here!! I brought my sick bird in to figure out what was wrong with her and they basically told me they had to run a bunch of tests to confirm their thoughts on what the suspected. So I asked how much that would cost me. They said $700. For the tests. So I asked, if I do these tests for $700. Will they give me the answers as to weather or not my bird had what they were thinking she had. They told me yes these tests would infact tell me weather or not she had the avian disease. Again I said, so these tests cover everything right?? They said yes. I said ok then go ahead. So after paying $700. To this vet. They told me the results were inconclusive and they couldn't confirm anything. They said I needed to run more tests. So I told the vet no. I was told for $700 I would find out what was wrong with my bird and now you are telling me you can't tell me what is wrong unless I spend more money!! So the vet got an attitude with me because I told her no this is rediculous. I then told her I would not be making any more appointments with them for the bird and said good bye. Now I got another bill in the mail from them for one of the things I already paid for. I have proof of paying for it because it was on the invoice that I paid. Also the date of the the new BS bill they sent had a date on it for a date i was never there. This vet will rob you blind!!! Stay away unless you want to get robbed by them!! read more

4.9/5 This was a first appointment for my tripawd Newfie puppy and me @ windhover veterinary clinic. We arrived on time for a noon appointment and waited in my car as requested until someone could come for my dog. After 15 minutes a tech came out with a clipboard of info to fill out. At 12:30 I was still waiting so I called to make sure they knew I was still there and to ask if they knew how much longer it might be. I was told they would be out soon. Shortly after the tech arrived to get my dog out of the car but since he is a puppy with three legs and he wasn't cooperating it was difficult to get him into the clinic. I asked if she needed my help but she asked if I minded if she had the Dr. come to see him outside. I said sure whatever was easiest for them. At this point I've gotten out of the car to wait with my dog. Dr. McMillan comes out and the first words out of her mouth were "if you have problems waiting maybe this isn't the clinic for you." I was absolutely dumbfounded. I had no trouble waiting as I could tell they were busy. I had just wanted to make sure they knew I was still there and if they had an idea of how much longer it might be. If it was going to be awhile I wanted to get him out of the car as it had been a long drive there and he was getting antsy in the back seat. So I said to Dr. McMillan, "I wasn't upset about waiting just wondering how long it might be". So she rudely says to me "I'm exhausted and busy and you're complaining so you need to go elsewhere." She then turns around to enter the clinic. At which point still not quite believing what she said and her rudeness to me I said "wait, so you're not going to see him?" She replied "No". At no point was I rude to anyone until she shockingly told me she wasn't going to see him at which point I told her I was going to give her a bad review and she replied that I'd get one too. I understand exhausted in the age of covid. I'm a nurse! But I for sure did not deserve to be treated like this. I'd steer clear of this vet. As an aside everyone I spoke to on the phone to set up the appointment and the techs were all lovely. read more

Dr, McMillan has been my vet for 20 years. She is sensitive, caring , loving and knowledgeable. She takes a holistic approach and does not do unnecessary procedures. I breed English Springer Spaniels and when I have a bitch whelping Dr. McMillan has often stayed up all night checking in with the progress of the birth. Every single person at this veterinary center is amazing. Found them through Google after searching the Foxboro area for vet care for my backyard chicken. I was out of the country when one of my chickens was accidentally closed in the run door by a friend taking care for our flock and he brought the chicken here. The vet refuted that the chicken was injured and only offered that it was "maybe" a highly contagious illness that we are familiar with due to being forced to cull what remained of our flock a few years before as a result (Marek's disease), which it obviously was not. The vet's only suggestion was to euthanize the chicken. My friend was never asked a single question about the health of the rest of my flock (perfect, and still to this day) or the chicken's vaccine history--one of our only hens from a breeder who chooses to vaccinate for Marek's. A few simple follow up questions would have eliminated the idea of Marek's, fairly common chicken knowledge. I guess the upside is that a complete waste of time only cost $60, as some other vets charge a lot more for avian care. read more

Background: I took my kitty to Angell where they indicated it was likely she had an intestinal obstruction, and it would cost $2.5K to admit and conclusively diagnose her and $2K for a subsequent surgery with possible complications, e.g., need to remove parts of the intestine. I took my kitty home, she continued to vomit and I cried thinking I would have to put her to sleep. It cost my $556 to know this. In comes Windhover!! I called around all of the suburban vets looking for someone, anyone who might be able to give her a conclusive ultrasound for less than a $2.5K hospital admission. I spoke with Sandy, receptionist at Windhover. She reluctantly gave me the first available ultrasound appointment for Mon a.m. (it was a Thurs evening) and urged me to keep calling around because if it were an obstruction that would be too late for my kitty. As I was calling around, she called me back. She had spoken to the practice owner, and board-certified radiologist, Dr. McMillan. Dr. McMillan asked if I could bring my kitty's x-rays from Angell over that evening. It was 5 p.m. - she was leaving at 6 p.m. and wouldn't be in the office the following day. I rented a Zipcar, fought with Angell to get copies of the x-rays (yes fought!) and then battled rush hour traffic to get to Walpole. I made it at 6:25 and was practically crying as I burst through the door expecting it to be too late, but Dr. McMillan had waited. She looked at the x-rays for about 30 secs and said my kitty had an enormous hairball in her stomach. I questioned her diagnosis, explaining that Angell told us it was food in her stomach. She drew a circle around the hairball revealing a thin layer of air between the mass and the stomach lining - food would have been evenly dispersed - this was clearly a hairball, she said! Notably Angell had missed the diagnosis, and I was on the verge of putting my cat to sleep - Dr. McMillan saved her life. The next day I brought my kitty in to see Dr. Postman who added that my kitty was far too healthy to have had an obstruction. She called Dr. McMillan on her cell phone (since it was her day off) and together they came up with a treatment plan. While given the size of the hairball surgery may be indicated, they did not want to put my cat through that unnecessarily. They suggested we do another x-ray to see if the size had decreased or increased. The technician did not stretch my kitty to give a full look of her entire abdominal cavity - she said the kitty's comfort was more important than a pretty picture (Angell missed the boat on that too). The hairball was smaller! Drs. McMillan and Postman concurred we should try and manage this medically, not surgically. However, if it did not work they would do the surgery there for under $2K. They suggested a course of special diet and major hydration. Shannon, a tech there, showed me how to give her subcu fluids and they gave me non-Rx food and hairball medicine to help. All in all, they CORRECTLY diagnosed my kitty for $286. The next day they called back to let me know they had discussed more and felt this was the right course. They wanted me to know that even though it was the weekend I could reach them at any time. Also it is notable that Angell called my kitty a "bad cat" - at Windhover they explained that calico cats are known for being "special" and requiring "special handling". Thank you Windhover for recognizing my distressed kitty is not bad and being compassionate with her! Thank you Windhover for not price gauging me! And most of all thank you Windhover for your intelligence and aptitude- because of you my 6 year old kitty is still here! For regular check-ups I will still use Charles St Animal Clinic because Walpole is far away, but I will never take a sick kitty anywhere else but Windhover again. read more

We have two parrots, and Windhover has been a great place to take them. Both of the vets are avian certified, but we always see Dr. Holmes out of habit. She is amazing handling out birds and so sweet with them. She also has lots of recommendations for dealing with nutritional, social, and behavioral issues that come up with parrots. One of our birds was injured in a fight with the other bird one evening, and they squeezed him in between other appointments, no problem. Dr. Holmes also called the next day to see how he was doing. They have ample parking in the back, open most evenings, and on Saturdays. I wish they could see emergencies off hours, but they only have two vets and that would be pretty hard for them. read more

When we moved a couple of years back, we had a hard time leaving our vet in Boston because they were top notch, and wonderful with our dog, (a vizsla), Lexi. But when we came across Windhover, we were both relieved and grateful as we knew we had found our veterinary home. I moved to New England a few years back. We've had some problems with our parrot and needed an avian vet, which are hard to come by. We found Windhover, which is a about an hour ride for us and honestly if we lived closer, I'd be bringing all of my pets to them. I've never had to wait more than a few minutes for an appointment. I absolutely LOVE Dr. McMillan. She is compassionate, knowledgeable, attentive and just a really nice person. The staff there is just wonderful too. This place is AMAZING. everyone is super nice, and very understanding. I started crying because my cat was sick and possibly going septic. They started him on an IV and put him in a private room, where i was able to sit with him. I had never heard of this before, but I LOVE that fact that you know exactly what they are doing to your pet. even the exam room, its just a table in a little nook in the hallway, where you can stand and watch what they are doing. They explain EVERYTHING to you as theyre doing it. Dr. McMillian ( so sorry if i spelt it wrong) was straight to the point, which some people may see as harsh, but id rather you tell me straight up whats going to happen. What a fabulous resource we have with Windhover Vet Center! I've been taking my pets here for several years and cannot say enough positive comments about the staff and facilities. First: my introduction was several years ago when my dog Scruffy was quite sick and another vet office said "aw, it's a tummy ache" ... I'm not sure How I ended up at Windhover ... but Dr. McMillan diagnosed her and found ... she had a Tumor! OMG - she saved my dog's life. Next: my older cat Cuddles became quite sick (lost appetite,etc.) - over a weekend I took her to Tufts Emergency who just suggested I "put her down" ... but ran to Windhover when they opened and Dr. Holmes was incredible. She offered her empathy and instructed me on how to offer subcutaneous fluids at home. She worked with me for homeopathic treatments, offered suggestions on feeding - - Cuddles lived another 2 1/2 years - with a wonderful quality of life. Then: years later I adopted a dog, Chloe, who we found had neurological issues and became ill. Both Dr. Holmes and McMillan took painstaking time to really look into this. Amazingly, we found an answer (from this vet office!) to get Eddie's Wheels to assist her walking! She lived another 4 years with a fabulous quality of life. Most recently, I adopted an older kitty, Cargo, that was in quite sad shape. The entire staff was remarkable in their caring and concern. Without Windhover, I could not have nursed this fellow to health. I was told by a "cat specialist" he had cancer and wouldn't eat. Turns out, Windhover was able to discern he had a tooth abscess. They sent me to a special vet and he was able to live out his senior years with great love and a family. What an incredible office, a caring (sincerely) staff and amazing doctors. I trust them with my "family" of pets. I've already sent all my friends there - that says it all. read more

Dennis&Pat 9/27/13 We have been bringing our blue and gold named Birdie to Dr. McMillan for close to thirty years. She has always taken very good care of him along with her staff. Unfortunately Birdie became very ill back in April diagnosed with parrot fever and possible borna virus. Dr. McMillan tried everything from medicines to blood transfusions and there was a glimmer of hope mid way through but then the treatments stopped working and Birdie passed away 9/23/13. Through this entire ordeal Dr.McMillan and her staff were very professional and compassionate. My wife and i are still trying to cope with his passing, but i must say that if i ever bring myself to get another bird that Dr. McMillan would still be the first doctor i would bring the bird to. I was debating between 1 and 2 stars because i have been bringing my dogs here for years. They were ok for 5 years or so, but never great. They were always very expensive for annual visits but rather than switching vets I decided to stay with them and support the local business. My last visit to them was my reason for switching to millis animal hospital which is amazing and much more reasonably priced. So I brought my lab in to have a tumor removed from his shoulder. They did a good job removing it. The dr told me the wound was in a tough place so the stitches and staples may pop off. She said if they pop off to call and she would try some more secure stitches. (Why not use those in the first place?) So after an infection the stitches popped off. He had a gaping wound on his shoulder which was about 2 inches wide by three inches long. I found it had popped on a Saturday morning and called and they said to bring him right in. So I brought him in and they took him. (The support staff there is excellent and loving). They cleaned the wound and the dr came in and was rude and upset that she would have to do this repair after noon because he had already eaten breakfast and they were supposed to close at 1pm. I said goodbye and waited for them to call. At 12:30 they called and said he should be ready in about 30 minutes but wanted to give me the price before they started. The price was 675. I asked why so much? That cost more than the actual surgery although nowhere near the entire cost of the visit. The vet came in and scolded me that it was 'emergency hours' and a Saturday. I explained that they did a poor job with the stitches in the first place and I don't mind paying for the repair but an additional almost $700 was too much. So I went to get him to bring him elsewhere. When I showed up he was heavily sedated and could barely stand. Who sends a dog home like that? I was furious but the dr didn't have the decency to come out and talk to me so I carried my 75lb dog to the car and tool him to millis animal hospital. They charged half the price an did a visibly better job on the stitches. (They did double stitches) and the dr there was loving and affectionate to my dog. In short, I would recommend millis over this place any day. They seem much better and much more reasonably priced. (And only 10 minutes from Walpole center). read more

I have been utilizing Windhover's services for many years now, and I have always known how lucky I am to have such incredible group of veterinarians and their staff to cater to the health needs of my "Monster Squad" (parrots cats and dogs). Several months ago one of my cats was diagnosed with Feline Diabetes, Dr. McMillan took the time to explain the illness, its causes, feline nutritional requirements and how the addition of regular exercise would help to manage my special cats condition. When My cats condition progressed to the point that she needed insulin, Dr. McMillan's commitment and dedication really came through. She has been keeping in constant contact with me several times a day, getting updates on my cats blood glucose results, and coaching me through the dosing process. When my kitty hypo'd over easter weekend, Dr. McMillan was calling every 2-3 hours all through the night to check on my cats condition and ready to assist in any way she can. I can not say enough good things about Dr. McMillan and the staff at Windhover. All the dedicated people who work there, including those who are no longer part of the staff have earned my respect and undying gratitude. Every time I have lost a pet due to age or illness, I have shortly afterwords received a lovely dish garden from the staff and then a few days later a letter informing me that Windhover has made a donation to a charity in my pets name. Unsolicited gestures such as this are what sets Windhover apart from any other veterinary facility that I have ever utilized. I am constantly recommending Windhover to anyone that is in need of a caring veterinary facility. I have been a client at Windhover for over 5 years. I'm a regular due to my cat's chronic condition. Dr. Holmes and Dr. McMillan are the most thorough and compassionate vets I have ever met. My concerns are never dismissed and they are very considerate that my cat is as comfortable as he can be given the circumstances or procedure. I am always called & reminded of the appt and always receive a follow-up call after the appt to see everything is going well, which gives me another opportunity to ask any questions I forgot to ask. My cat somehow broke her tail so I brought her in this afternoon. Every single person who works here is really wonderful, just patient and kind and knowledgeable. My cat doesn't have the easiest personality but she always relaxes in here, and the woman who had her dog in the waiting room with me was saying the same thing. Long story short, Dr Holmes initially thought amputation would be the best option but quickly realized she had feeling in her tail so was able to repair it. Price estimate was $570 to $650 and ended up being $477. They also gave me a small bag of 'pill pocket' snacks, removed some tartar from her teeth and advised me on the cat's recent weight loss. We love Windhover Veterinary Center. They were always there for us when we needed them and treat our dogs and parrot so so well. Our French Buldog's life was saved twice by the vets in Windhover; once by correctly making the diagnosis of a botched surgical procedure done in Angel Memorial and the second time by recognizing autoimmune encephalitis so early in the process that the dog was treated and saved. They are very good clinicians, with a lot of common sense and experience and very caring. Always follow up with phone calls, always availalbe on the phone. My bird was sick and was not getting any better over a few days. I was leaving town and needed to get her into a vet. I called Windhover and Colleen answered. She was so helpful, knowledgeable, compassionate, caring, and got me right in the next morning. Dr. McMillan is so kind and caring with these birds, the knowledge she has and how she really cares by giving you information to give them a healthy life. I was leaving town for a few days and they referred me to Lina, who took care of her in the most amazing way, she went above and beyond . This Veterinary practice is very smart and professional. At the same time they are very conscious of your pet's comfort. They will do everything possible to maintain a calm environment. My 13 year old, 85 pound Boxer 'Mo' died last week. Mo was a sweet wonderful dog except when he went to the vet. He got so scared and resented any veterinary staff touching him. I've been going to Windhover for about 10 years now with my cockatiels -- Freddie, then Bingo, and now Phinney. I will certainly vouch for the wonderful staff, from Marie (answers the phone) to the techs, and the doctors -- and, their secret weapon Lina! I had Dr. McMillan when I first started going there, and she has to be the 9th Wonder of the World the way she handles birds. Then, a few years later, along came Dr. Holmes -- it just doesn't get any better than Dr. Holmes. Her cageside manner with the animals extends to the owners as well as I surely found out when my little Bingo passed away. I love that she doesn't grab the drugs whenever my bird has a problem. She had me put Bingo in "bootcamp" for two weeks to stop the chronic egg production. She prescribed an herbal (I think it's herbal) daily drop for Phinney's water to prevent undue stress. She's too tactful to say it, but I think she knows me well enough now to hinsuspect that living with me can be quite stressful! LOL And she will not due any unnecessary procedures! read more

I have taken two of my dogs to Windhover in the last 8 or so years. During that time our previous dog, a German shepherd, who was a rescue adoption, had a history of fractured pelvis and left hip due to being hit by a car before we adopted her. After we adopted her, she needed another hip surgery repair and was seen post op at Windhover. She needed physical therapy and started in at Dr McMillan's rehab clinic, Sterling Impressions, with wonderful results. Fast forward 6 or 7 more years when it became time to put her down at 13 years of age due to old age, pain and difficulty walking. We couldn't have had a more caring and supportive staff from Dr McMillan to her techs and rehab staff to help us get through that traumatic time. We have had 6 other dogs previous to that and this was the first time that I actually felt a calm come over me during the whole process which was able to be transmitted to our dog, I am sure. Now we are are back again with another German shepherd rescue, a senior this time, who has had a couple intestinal illnesses, and each time I have called, I have been able to be seen that same day. The staff is caring, knowledgeable and so very friendly and understanding. Dr McMillan is an outstanding veterinarian and is known far and wide as quite an expert in avian medicine as well.
