This morning took my Yorkshire Terrier to MSPCA ER, few months ago she was diagnosed with locating patella and was given meloxidil, my husband was told if it keeps happening she will need surgery. Now barely 6 months it happens again, I took her, checked and paid and asked how long could it be since I worked overnight and haven't slept and have to go back to work. The receptionist area had 3 people with their pets, 2 dogs and 1 cat. These people were seen and left, more people came in checked in and were seen and left. After 4 hours seating there, I asked the receptionist does she has any idea when my dog will be seen. I understand triage and all, however we were never triaged, I registered, paid the fees and was told to sit and will get triaged. 5 hours later we were never triaged, my poor Luna was in pain and getting restless being inside her carrier for a long and it was about time for me to get back to work, was told my fees will ge credited back into my account and I left. Last time I was there with my husband it was a week day , was busier and was seen within 2 hours and left with medication. This time I was there for over 5 hours and was never even triaged. read more

In retrospect it's hard to say who was treated better: myself or my beloved dog. We both arrived in a pretty shaky state. Each of the individuals we encountered was caring, communicative, and skillful. Dr Matthew Boules' diagnostic process involved additional consultation to clarify his assessment - which he then explained using models and showing me how to physically detect the problematic area. In doing all of this he collaborated w- Dr Gallego. Experiencing such collaboration between providers gives you the feeling that care delivery is through a collaborative network, rather than a series of hand-offs. I received follow up communication (AND pictures, OMG) from Jess Morgan, Jeanne, and Todd - the Client Care Coordinator for surgery and general medicine. When my son and I visited after surgery were were greeted by cheerful and gracious volunteer. Guy at front desk assisted w- meds during off hours. What I appreciated most about Angell is the combination of warmth and technical know-how. read more

A Disheartening Experience at MSPCA - Please Read Before You Visit I feel deeply compelled to share the distressing experience my sister had when she brought our dog, Lily, to the MSPCA medical and adoption center. We had recently adopted Lily from MSPCA, believing in the compassion and care they promote. Unfortunately, our experience has shaken that trust. Lily had begun experiencing hematuria, which quickly progressed. On the day of the visit, she was in serious condition--vomiting and passing large blood clots in her urine. Naturally, my sister rushed her to MSPCA, the very place we had entrusted with Lily's initial care. Upon arrival, she was immediately asked to pay $225 before Lily could even be examined. She didn't have the funds on hand, but hoped that since we had just adopted Lily from their center, they might show some urgency or leniency in evaluating her condition. That was not the case. She was passed between multiple staff members before finally being allowed to speak with a manager--Deborah--despite asking to speak with one from the beginning. My sister, understandably flustered, was trying to advocate for Lily while Lily was visibly in distress. As she attempted to explain the situation, Deborah laughed in her face. This reaction was not only cruel but also deeply inappropriate, especially given that my sister has a speech impediment and has worked with speech-language pathologists for years. To mock someone in a moment of vulnerability--especially when they are advocating for a suffering animal--is unacceptable. When my sister tried to convey her concern, Deborah coldly responded with, "Well, I'm not a doctor, and you're not a doctor. Things happen." This complete lack of empathy from someone in a leadership position was appalling. Thankfully, Lily was eventually seen by a compassionate veterinarian who prioritized her well-being over protocols and red tape. We're incredibly grateful to that doctor--but that kindness was the only bright spot in an otherwise deeply disappointing encounter. As someone who believed in MSPCA's mission, this experience has left me questioning everything. I hope this review encourages leadership at MSPCA to reflect on how they treat people--especially in urgent situations--and reminds them of the responsibility they carry, not just for animals, but for the people who love and advocate for them. At this time, I cannot in good conscience recommend or support MSPCA. read more

I have seen Dr. Shawn Kearns occasionally over the course of the past two decades. She has been willing to step in for second opinions and when my prior dog suffered trachea collapse (one of her expertises). I have seen many veterinarians over the 50 plus years I've had dogs. Many have been excellent. Some have been outstanding. She is the best. Careful. Caring. Honest. Kind. And highly, off-the-charts competent. read more

The doctor who saw my labradoodle was so good with her, got down on the floor with her, approached her slowly, and was very gentle. My dog doesn't do well with veterinarians in general, but she actually warmed up to the dermatologist. The vet was also good with me--explaining everything clearly but not talking down to me in any way. It was a wonderful experience. read more

I wrote a review about 10 years ago when my kitten was sick on Christmas Day and the way I was treated there by the veterinarian who treated her, and I continue to stand by my review, especially since I also reached out via email to the executive team and never received the courtesy of a response. I'm thinking this is from our visit with Dr Ferrar a few months ago. We had a great experience as we have at every visit at Angell. I'm consistently impressed as this was not the experience we had in our 10 years with VCA sadly. I always felt like a problem, putting them out trying to advocate for my fur babies. Unfortunately two of the three have bad allergies that often flare up requiring medical attention/intervention and each time I've contacted Dr Simon/dermatology dept she/they have been more than willing to help with a treatment plan that has helped with symptom management. I greatly appreciate her help and don't dread contacting her/dermatology dept because I've never been made to feel like I'm a bother and can't convey in words what that means to us. It's never challenging to schedule an apt and staff at Angell have been pleasant, kind and helpful every single time. My dogs are my world and it's comforting to know they are getting the best care that they deserve. Thank you Angell, we are so grateful for the care and compassion shown by your amazing staff! This place is terrible....we called ahead(330am) and was told there was no wait. It took us about 10mins to get here and all the sudden it's 540am and we still haven't been seen and all they have to say is things... Their Island discriminating against us and our dog or they're terribly incompetent to be doing this....I understand those that live around here but if you can go elsewhere please do it..you and your animal deserve better than this place..they never saw us..we left and went to a different client.. read more

It is appropriate that my first review in 2022 goes to the place that saved the Beloved Goldendoodle's life: in June 2021, his regular vet felt a lump that had not been there 6 months prior, and told me to get to Angell's ER right away. Yes, we are in the middle of Covid so waiting in the ER and everything that goes along with it isn't pleasant, but please be kind to everyone working at Angell - none of the issues surrounding the "new normal" during Covid are their fault, and there are also so many more patients than there used to be due to everyone who brought home new family members during Covid. Kindness goes a long way (see above note about being kind!), and my boy was in surgery within 2 hours. They removed his spleen and the tumor, and while both of those turned out to be benign, cancer was found on his spine. He did 5 consecutive days of radiation two weeks later, followed by chemo every 3 weeks until mid-November. From the day we first walked in the door in June to his last chemo, we were there (at least) once every-other-week for blood tests, xrays, etc. Was this inexpensive? No, not at all. I know that veterinary school is expensive (as is all of the equipment needed to keep the hospital running), not to mention all of the support staff they have (literally "support" when I think of the nice staff who texted me photos and updates while he was there). Angell does amazing work and remember that their patients don't talk and can't point to where it hurts; sometimes the issue is obvious, and sometimes it isn't (just like with humans) so they aren't just running random blood tests for the hell of it! There were a few days over the summer when I wasn't sure he was going to make it, but it is now 6 months later and he will turn 14 in March. I am incredibly grateful to everyone at Angell, from the nice people at the registration area to the staff who come out to greet him and get him in for his appointment and all of the people behind the scenes who I haven't even met but know have given him love and attention while he is there. Finally, barking out an enormous thank you to my boy's two favorite people: Dr. Walz (his oncologist) and Maria P. who brought him into radiation each day, kept me updated and then cared for him until I picked him up. My boy is here today thanks to the huge team of caring people at Angell, especially those two!! read more

I cannot say enough for the people at Angell and their care for our baby boy. Our cat has a rare disease that has been found in cats only 200 times since the 80's. These amazing people found it after two tests. This is by far one of the best vets in the country, and although it is expensive, I do believe they have the best chance of solving your pet's problems. read more

I had a scheduled appointment at Angell Animal Medical Center today at 6:30 PM. At 11:49 AM, just under 7 hours before the appointment, the clinic called to cancel because the vet was sick. I completely understand that staff illnesses happen. However, I was surprised that Angell refused to offer any sort of credit or rescheduling priority. Their own cancellation policy imposes a $50 fee on clients who cancel within 24 hours, yet they canceled with far less notice and took no responsibility for the inconvenience. I tried to resolve this professionally with staff, but they declined to help. I expected more fairness and accountability from such a respected clinic. read more

Angell Medical Center made it possible for our cat to have needed emergency care at a price we (as a family utilizing state assistance) were able to pay. They got Milo up-to-date on his shots, neutered him, and even clipped his nails in addition to the emergency care he needed. I had called hospital after hospital trying to have my fur baby seen after something attacked him savagely. Everyone else seemed more concerned with getting paid and less concerned that an animal's life was on the line (except Wignall--they were extremely compassionate as well and was the fallback option if we had not been seen at Angell). I didn't know whom else to turn to and they didn't turn us away. Now me and my son have our kitty fit as a fiddle in time for the holidays! Milo has never been better and it's 1000% due to the amazing and caring people at Angell *crying emoji* I will be donating (even if it's just a few bucks) from now on because this place makes it possible for people to help their ESAs even on a budget. The staff is sweet and caring, patient and understanding. Definitely a place where people work because of their compassion for animals and the families that care for them. We're truly blessed this holiday season by their compassionate care and I'm emotional even as I write this because it could have been a VERY different holiday for us had they not helped. We rescued a male kitten from Puerto Rico in June who was not spayed. MSPCA Centerville was highly recommended to us by friends and coworkers. Jynxy had a great experience at Centerville and is healing nicely from his neuter surgery. The discharge instructions and paperwork were comprehensive and understandable. This is a much needed service to help control pet overpopulation and prevent unnecessary euthanasias due to overcrowding in kill shelters. We also adopted to female parakeets from Centerville in 2019 and they were a wonderful addition to our family. We have been contributors to MSPCA for over 20 years and we feel that they are tops at what they do. We love reading about the various shelters, especially Nevins Farm. What I appreciated most about Angell is all the good work that they do for animals in need and the excellent care that is provided at the medical center and the programs that make low cost spay/neuter services available, particularly on Cape Cod where there is no alternative than high cost. They only care about MAKING MONEY and not your pet. My friend brought our gerbils here for an emergency visit since one of them had an injury to his tail. His brother came along, but when we got them back, his brother was weirdly quiet and tired. Turns out he was missing one of his front teeth and he was in pain. He hasn't eaten in days and we took him to another vet that thankfully gave us more comforting options. He wasn't even the original gerbil for the appointment! We are worried sick and have no clue what the vet did to him for his tooth to have fallen out. Not to mention, even though they examined my gerbil with the tail injury and said it looks healthy and like it's on a good path to healing, they recommended amputation to prevent infection!! Excuse me?? How is that a logical procedure to put him under more trauma to a healthy tail that has no infection? Amputation should be the LAST RESORT. The amputation procedure would have been 1.5k had we went through with it (which we thankfully didn't and his tail is healing with good energy). Absolutely uncaring, greedy hospital and unsympathetic vets. Take your pet here if you want to go broke and also have the injured or die. Don't come here. read more

So this review is regarding their emergency room. If you have another option, I would highly suggest it. My dog on Thanksgiving day had an Accident in the backyard with a broken tree branch and had a long laceration, Fat tissue deep for a total length of 16 in and my family brought my dog There Because of availability for that day. I got a call from my family and I spoke to Dr. S. Ryan that day while I was out of state the ER doctor told me there were two options, They could take xrays and Stitch her up that day or wait for tomorrow for a surgeon who could offer her the best Healthcare service where they would be able to do further Inspection to make sure there's no internal damages before stitching her up. I was concerned about the delay and undue pain my dog would experience. She stated this would be a priority so she would be one of the 1st patients as of now, barring any life-threatening issues they may face overnight. so my family and I decided that maybe tomorrow would be better suited if we could get her seen the very first thing in the morning as she stated. So first thing at 9:30 am we checked in with the ER and tried to find out more information on her surgery we were told that she was not being seen She was in the queue to be seen and operated. That was not the case. We checked in over 5 times throughout the day to 4:30 pm Where we had to constantly call to follow up and then we found out that she was being seen for surgery. I'm sure I don't have to be the one telling you that 7 hours does not equate to a priority considering a 16-in Laceration from her upper torso to her Lower Side. My family brought my dog to the ER on Thanksgiving day at approximately 4:00 pm. That is a 24-hour window of pain regardless of What type of pain meds you give. I felt completely guilty I made that decision. If I knew it was going to take that long I very well may have chosen to stitch her up right away at the ER. I guess it was my fault for believing the Vet, huh? She made me second guess her(Dr. S. Ryan) service as a trained ER Vet. Out of the 5 times I have called to follow up, one of the times the staff told me they were waiting for an Anesthesiologist. So I asked how many anesthesiologists do you guys have on staff and how many surgeons do you have on staff? I don't understand how it can take this long if she was a priority. The staff could not tell me how many Anesthesiologists or Surgeons or on staff even though they have a computer system that logs everybody in. Technology is not that hard. So when you don't know how many NXT geologists you have but you're also waiting for an anesthesiologist it just doesn't make sense. Don't you love it when the stories don't Connect? I tried calling to ask for the information to chief of staff to complain and I asked for her phone number and email but They refused. The person I spoke to told me I could only relay the information over the phone and they would share the information to Dr Ryan, the surgeon head Supervisor of the team and they would circle back to me. It's been 2 weeks since my call and I have not received the phone call or email. Sadly this is a place I used to donate to years ago when I was living in the state. They clearly do not give a dogs behind, about a patient who just paid in full $4,500 for a laceration. As I look at my bill, I can clearly see the anesthesiologist who performed the Task was also the surgeon, Dr. A. Koid. I guess It wasn't that hard to find an Anesthesiologist when you're staring at one of the same as the Surgeon. read more

*I reserve my First Amendment Right to Freedom of Speech. This is an accurate depiction of my experience. * I would give zero stars if I could. Be careful, MSPCA and/or a possible a third-party completely provided a traumatizing experience when one or both parties mislabeled my dog's body bag so I could not have the entirety of my keepsake order completed after I had Tony euthanized. I had to put my sweet boy down due to illness. It was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. My heart was already broken and the phone call from the crematorium was really the cherry on top. I was told that my dog's body bag was mislabeled; the tag on his body did not match the tag on his body bag. Tony was euthanized at MSPCA, so either the hospital or the crematorium committed an irreversible error. The crematorium "relies on a system of trust" when picking the bodies up from MSPCA and works under the assumption that the dog in the bag is who it is labeled to be. So, the mistake was caught too late, and Tony was cremated before a nose ink print could be taken. The funny thing is I called on the status of my order days before I was contacted by the crematorium, and they told me my order was "fine," but my own digging suggests that it probably happened around the time I called. You tell me if I should safely assume I am in possession of his true ashes. Here's the best part! 3 MSPCA employees admitted fault. MSPCA coincidentally stopped returning my phone calls too. Let's see, Jade admitted fault. She "wanted answers" to my questions too and said, "we're looking into it". Although she's not the supervisor of this department (she corrected me on that), she does oversee After Care arrangement! Wow, what a difference! Someone named Christy who reports to Matt O'Neill and Matt O'Neill himself admitted fault also. President Neal Litvack's office didn't have the decency to return not a single phone call. None of these people took me seriously. I left my day-time responsibilities to go have a screaming match with Matt O'Neill. Before I even spoke to him, I said Tony's name at the front desk and smiles disappeared. Mr. Director of Client Services, Matt O'Neill, really outdid himself in our meeting. I was greeted with grins and smiles :) Not only could he not actually confirm that an investigation was ongoing, but he also couldn't answer a single question: who oversees this department, what is protocol, etc. But it's fine right because they said sorry? I've met rocks with greater intelligence. If you ask me, a sit-down meeting was the least they could do. He characterized my pain and experience as a learning opportunity. That's basically it. Initially, all I wanted was a conversation. I wanted to know how and why this happened. This hospital didn't have the decency to make this happened. No amount of money could correct this, but since a sit-down meeting was a big task for this little hospital, I threatened a lawsuit in a demand letter (where I literally said, sit down and talk with me). Oh, but when you threaten to contact their sponsors, that'll get you a response! The hospital's lawyers used their legal counsel to now communicate with me and denied everything. Unfortunately, this is not something that has adequate standing in a court room, though this is blatant negligence. but again, money won't heal the pain caused. read more

Absolutely ridiculous service. I came here at 1pm and didn't get my dog back until 7pm. We were required to stay on the premises without being told of how long we'd have to wait. We paid over $800 for an emergency check up, blood work that took over an hour, and medication we have, just to not have an actual answer to why our dog is trembling and yelping in pain. They told us he seemed fine while they were seeing him but as soon as we got to the car, he started yelping in pain again. I come back inside to try talking to the vet, only to have me wait over another half an hour just to speak with her. For the price we pay, we expect top notch care and explanation but we got neither. I felt like we came here for no reason, just for some pain medication that just masks the real issue. I don't even know what the issue is because they only gave me medication. This was a waste of time and money and received no help or reassurance on helping our little guy. I am furious with our experience here. read more

My dog's spleen burst at 3:00 a.m. on a Friday morning. I took him to Angel in Waltham, where they tried to stabilize him. They sent me to Boston for more testing and surgery. Upon our arrival in Boston, Louie was whisked right in and surgery soon followed. Likely saved his life. He spent the weekend in the ICU. When I visited him on Sunday, I was shown to a private room with a couch for a visit with my pup. The MD caring for him that day (embarrassed I don't have his name handy) was extraordinary (as was every one of the vets that I had contact with). He was very knowledgeable and kind and spent a LOT of time with us, answering questions. On Monday Louie came home and we were equipped with everything we needed to get him on the road to recovery. Unfortunately, he will not be able to see oncologists at Angel because of the backlog, but we found one on the list that is close by and seems to be working out well. This is the second time that I have been driving Louie in the middle of the night seeking care; first was two years ago with HGE. Both times our local ER was insufficiently staffed to accept emergencies. read more

PLEASE DONT GO HERE , PLEASE READ!! Its extremely slow in there to start off, we arrived at 9pm and didn't leave til 6am THE NEXT DAY , we didn't even get any updates for our kitten until we went up and asked hours later cause they left us waiting confused for the first 3 hours. they didn't inform us he was on a breathing tube nor did they tell us he reached temperatures of 105? then around 1am at this point they told us 3 people in front of us and then randomly put another patient in front of us and made us wait a whole 1 almost 2 extra hours, mind you our kitten was on a breathing tube with a temperature of 105 and they were just putting people in front of us. Then when we got home and was so exhausted and didn't realize that they must of hurt our kitten!! before the visit his paw just had diarrhea on it from when we brought him, then we noticed kinda a sore and assumed he bumped it giving them a hard time, then the next day we seen his raw skin and blood!! very sorry for the pictures just trying to spread awareness!! please do not go here i'm assuming they are extremely short staff and just hiring anyone at the moment. again this is sad please don't go here for the sake of your animals :( read more
