The foster I was in contact with told me to reach out anytime if I had questions, so I asked whether she had noticed it before the puppy was transported up north. She said no and then completely freaked out, telling me "now she's really upset," as if it were somehow my fault that the puppy developed a stye. Of course, I brought the puppy to the vet the very next day. $249 later, the vet said she was otherwise fine and prescribed an ointment, which cleared the stye in less than a day. I also brought a stool sample to that appointment. Low and behold, the puppy tested positive for Giardia. Treating that cost another $144 for both my new puppy and my dog because they had been together since I brought her home, which I believed was safe since we were told the puppies were "quarantined." All of the adopters from this litter were in a group chat with the foster parent, who asked us every single day for three days if the puppies were okay and whether they had diarrhea which now makes perfect sense. Another puppy from the litter also tested positive, and only then did the foster admit that one of the puppies had already tested positive and treated before adoption. Not a single adopter was informed of this until our puppies were already infected. Instead of acknowledging that we should have been alerted that our puppies were exposed to a highly contagious parasite and that all puppies have been treated proactively, she deflected responsibility and blamed transportation. It's clear she does not understand how contagious Giardia is or that her entire yard is now likely contaminated. She also informed us that she currently has another litter of puppies who in my opinion are at risk since soil is contaminated for 2-4 weeks even after feces has been removed. This is absolutely irresponsible behavior and shows zero accountability, and at the end of the day regardless of treatment we had the right to know they was contact with this parasite instead of hiding it.

This is not a good place to bring your pets, and they do not care. They killed my cat. I got stuck in a really bad position and I had to move but was getting a place in two weeks. They told me that I had to surrender which I did but I told him I would be back in a couple weeks if I could readopt I just had nowhere for the got to go at the time. The next day I called them and told him that I had a bunch of food and his favorite blanket, and a cat house for them. They proceeded to tell me that the cat was no longer alive. Unreal how anybody could even bring an animal here adoption fine.. don't ever bring a pet here to give it up. Go to a Manchester animal shelter, or MSPCA in Methuen.

Before I moved back to New England, I searched for animal shelters in the area. I volunteered at…read morethe Irving Animal Shelter in Irving, Texas, and I loved it. I was hoping to find a place where I could do the same. - The Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire is a really nice place. It's right on Route 101. There isn't a ton of parking here - maybe 10 spots up front and 20 or so in back. It's not a large place (not compared to other shelters I've been to), but it's nice. - I've described this place to people as "mostly cats and rabbits" because they don't have a whole lot of large dogs on site. At least, not many that the general public can view. - I signed up to volunteer. You have to first take a "class". It's two hours long and you have to donate $10 at the end - more as an act of faith that you're serious about being a volunteer. (Also, they really need the money). The class wasn't much of a class, to be honest. You don't learn a lot, you just hear about all the good things the shelter does or has done. After the class is over, you have to sign up again for training. And the training could be in anything from "small cage cleaning" to "walking dogs" or "laundry". You get to pick which one you come back for. The next time you come back is your first day of volunteering. I've come back to learn about their dogs, but as a new volunteer, you don't get to interact with many dogs. Many of the dogs here are "senior only" meaning, only a "senior" dog walker can take them out. A "Senior" walker is defined as someone who has booked 50 hours volunteering here. It's very technical. You have to sign up online to come in to volunteer - you can't just show up and help out (well, you can, but it's almost discouraged). They have a lot they need to get done and they do it by having volunteers sign up for specific things - laundry, cage cleaning, etc. What bothers me is that there are a lot of dogs here, and I have time and I've handled all kinds of dogs in the past - but I'm not allowed to help because I'm not a "senior" walker here. I just feel bad for the dogs here that aren't being taken out because a "senior" isn't around that day. - OK I digress. Otherwise, it's a nice facility. Lots of really nice cats. A surprising number of rabbits. There was even a turtle there up for adoption last week! The dog kennels are a little shocking to see - they're in a room that smells like bleach (this place is big on cleaning) with glass doors to the kennels. There is only one outdoor fenced-in area for the dogs to exercise off leash. Volunteers can take the dogs on-leash through the woods/trails behind the place. - I just wish the place had more land - they could use some outdoor runs for the dogs. Let them play and that way potential adopters can see them having fun and not barking behind glass doors! - It's a good place - very well organized and passionately run.

She's taken care of our two dogs twice already and we also have made arrangements for our upcoming February trip. Carrie truly understands how much our two pups mean to us: if we had any questions she responded promptly, we also received daily updates with photos. The place is very nice and very well taken care of, the backyard is also very pretty. I must also mention that Carrie is very much a professional, a woman of her word and a class act-what a pleasure to deal with! I would never bring my dogs anywhere else!

In 2025 I drove 2 hours to Arubacat's location to buy another of their trees and Arty couldn't have been any nicer. After spending 4 hrs mtg and wtg l told them I wanted to come back during their free adoption event to adopt (as many others were obviously doing). I wanted to think about it because I would rather use adoption money to go towards the dog's medical treatment. I was nastly told by a staff woman standing at the desk and overheard, "fine if the dog doesn't get adopted by then". So I asked if I could make a deposit or do anything at all to try to hold the dog and was adamantly told no "first come first serve period"! I totally understood that if I waited he may get adopted and had seriously considered going back to pay the $500 fee. However, I received a call back that they gave me the wrong dates of the free waiver event and wanted to let me know because and I quote on phone recording "my meeting went well and they would love for me to be able to bring the dog home". Again I was told to get there first because it was first come, first serve if he wasn't ADOPTED in the meantime. l want to be clear that my complaint isn't with the young lady whom helped me with my 1st meeting, or the call back person, and the lovely receptionist, they were great. So I called back, left a message, to ensure that it was the 14th not 13th because I definitely wanted to adopt the dog, will be there first in line if he wasn't ADOPTED over the weekend. After once again driving THREE HOURS there, I STOOD IN LINE FOR 1/12 hrs TO BE "FIRST IN LINE'. I tell them I want to adopt the dog!, I received a call that everything went well, my dog and their dog met and there were no issues I was made aware of. Staff person says wait she has to talk to a manager. Mgr tells me no I can't adopt the dog they have someone with an APPOINTMENT LATER WAITING who wants to see a behaviorist first and get more info and says quietly so no on but me hears, they're not even sure yet. I am absolutely lived and yes yelling because they're not supposed to hold dogs that are starred because they are considered highly needed to be adopted out because they have been there for a long time and not doing too great in the shelter and NOT for people who say they are just INTERESTED. This is why they have the fee waiver event isn't it! So now with a nasty smug attitude and smirk at me she states they're doing what's best for the dog and they have lots of APPLICANTS. I was told when asked about my online application being in the system they didn't take online applications only the people who came in person and met with them. They didn't tell me I could make an appointment with a behaviorist that would ensure my HOLD on the dog like they did for the other people. SO THEY ARE IN FACT LIARS, BECAUSE THEY WILL HOLD A DOG FOR WHOMEVER THEY PLEASE, that must have given them some damn good reason to do so. Now after over 12 hours of driving back and forth, putting my dog thru it all, spending hours waiting and meeting with the dog and staff, they give the dog to someone else with absolutely no courtesy of an explanation of why. I get that they want to do what's best for the dog that's been there a long time and was sent back after a previously failed adoption. But you should know they certainly don't give a damn about you, your heartbroken feelings and what you go thru. PLEASE don't for a minute believe anything they tell you. Even if you have 3 1/2 acres of private land, stay at home, spent over ten thousands dollars in medical care on other dogs, have over 10 yrs experience with a pit mix that you took from the street and spoil it ridiculously, used professional trainers to ensure that you've learned from previous mistakes and do your best now; because that's not good enough for them. Yes, I called the President to complain, and are now playing telephone tag with Deb. who may not bother and that may be for the best because I am so upset I am shaking now. Yes, I know in the end they will say too bad they lied, they don't care as long as the animals get adopted, because they were able to make 'special arrangements' at the discretion of their managers. Even if they had said they were sorry it really means nothing to them. You have been warned, your feelings and efforts have absolutely no bearing on adoption at the MSPCA. 2 more things: BE AWARE they intentionally withhold info on descriptions. they may not tell you a dog has been returned because it wasn't suitable with children before, will jump all over you, has serious medical issues, bite when being fed etc., info from me and others that I spoke with in line and my brother who adopted a cat that had a botched spay done by their vet(in Salem), they refused to believe him, take responsibility so he had to go somewhere else to have fixed.

NEVER donate to MSPCA at Nevins Farm. The staff there are not very nice and don't seem to care much…read moreabout people or even animals. Someone stole/kidnapped my cat from my neighborhood and brought him to Nevin's farm. I saw my cat Simba on their website and went there to pick him up. The uncaring staff at Nevin's farm told me that somone had already adopted my cat. The just kept siting legalise and telling me they had a legal right to do so. Ok, fine, but what about a little compassion? They allow people to kidnap/steal cats and drop them off. Do they even care if someone is stealing/kidnapping another person's family member? I don't trust or like anyone who doesn't care for animals. It's even worse when it's an organization that purports to care about animals. Shame on them! They are some of the meanest people I've ever met.
