I contacted them about adopting a kitten and they never responded. They may be short-handed, and I feel for non-profits, but how are you going to place cats if you don't even respond? I adopted Stella (formerly Minni) and Rocky (the orange boy) from this shelter about two months ago, and I couldn't be happier with the experience. The staff was very informative, communicative over the phone, and made the adoption process quick and straightforward. The shelter was also clean & organized which I appreciated as well. With my background in animal control, I felt well-prepared to give them everything they needed. Though Stella and Rocky are only three days apart in age, they're not from the same litter, so there was a short adjustment period. Now, they're inseparable best friends. They've also bonded with my husky, Blue--who, after some time learning to be gentle with them, now cuddles with them often. Stella even tries to nurse from him at night, and he happily grooms Rocky. These two little ones have completely brightened my life, and I'm so grateful for the joy they've brought into my home. I look forward to loving them more each day. Adopted 2 cats from here, what a mistake that was. Communication in the beginning was horrible- they would take weeks to answer my calls or emails. After receiving the cats I got some calls from Darbster asking how the cats were adjusting in my home, but after that it was radio silent. I have recently tried getting in touch with them again for about 2 and a half weeks now, and no response again. Needless to say it was a terrible experience and I would not recommend anyone to adopt from this place. read more

I contacted darbster for help to rehome my kitty. I told them i would keep kitty at my home until rehoming and even pay the adoption fee for the right forever home. They asked for all kittys medical history and i sent it right away. They said they would try to help and their help took the form of ghosting me. After a $15 application and nearly 3 weeks, we still haven't had any return communication from Darbster Kitty. We found Darbster Kitty on a fluke as we were looking to adopt a kitten. We drove over an hour to their two New Hampshire locations and were so eager to adopt. We completed the application at the mall location on a Saturday and were told we would hear back by Tuesday. That day came and passed, and after 1 week, we reached out to them to find that they were waiting for a call from our landlord for approval of cats in our building. Nearly another week passed and we called again to be told that we could bring our lease and vet records to them and that our approval would be pushed through. We drove to the New Hampshire Mall location, again, over an hour away, and hand delivered the paperwork to be told we would not be approved yet, and the office in Florida will review our papers and be in touch on Monday of the following week. Well, it's Wednesday of the following week now, nearly three weeks into our application process and still no phone call, email, text message, smoke signal or any kind of communication. At this point, I feel like my $15 was stollen and there was on intent on ever approving us. Luckily, we're financially stable enough to not care about the money. My advice: avoid Darbster Kitty if you can. While their intentions seem good towards the cats, their way of conducting business with people needs improvement. After wasting time, money and effort, we went to the MSPCA and adopted a gorgeous kitten that is now in a loving and stable home. Best of luck. read more

I did heavy-duty rescue in florida for 25+ years and had to stop. but then kittens came, and when they were old enough for adoption the big rescue place here ran me in circles and did things like cancel appointments when I arrived for the appointments. I was at my wits' end when someone put me in contact with Darbster, and every step of the way they went above and beyond. I can't say enough good things about the group AND the individuals involved. they're absolutely fabulous. read more

Would give this place 0 stars if it was possible. Worst experience ever! I had initially put down a deposit for a kitten, who they told me was available. After my deposit and application were accepted, they told me the kitten was no longer available, and to choose a different one. I chose a different kitten, who they said had come from Florida during the hurricanes. When speaking with them over the phone, they never mentioned anything to me about the kitten's health or said anything that would cause concern. I went to pick him up at their facility in Manchester, and at that point they advised me he was "sick" and that I would have to do a "medical foster" until he was better and able to be fully adopted. Had I known beforehand, I probably would have chosen a different one, but after seeing him, I couldn't say no. They gave me some medicine to give to him in a dropper for the next week, told me to call after the medicine was finished so that I could bring him in for a checkup, and sent me on my way. I brought him home, and he was very lethargic, sleeping all the time, and was not active at all compared to kittens that I have adopted in the past. I assumed it was normal, since they told me has sick, and hoped the medicine would help. When I brought him in for his checkup a few days later, the vet (they hired her out, she does not work for Darbster, but she is FANTASIC) told me that he was extremely dehydrated. She gave him some different medicine, pumped him with fluids and he ended up being able to come home with me that night. She advised me that I would need to bring him into her clinic so that she could check in on him the next day. When I brought him there, he was dehydrated again, and she told me it wasn't looking good for him. He wasn't gaining weight, and was almost a pound lighter than he should be for his age which at his size, was very bad. He was literally on the brink of death, which was devastating for us. I left him at her facility for the day, where they had him hooked up to an IV, and were treating him for dehydration, parasites and various other issues that Darbster never mentioned to me. She told me that the medicine they sent me home with initially wasn't even remotely what he needed. When I picked him up, she sent me home with an IV so that I could give him fluids at home. I had to give him not only his oral medicine in a dropper, but also stick a needle into his back to pump fluids into him. I have never had to stick a giant needle into a small kitten's back before, so it was obviously very nerve-racking. In the meantime, I was bringing him back to her facility (not Darbster) for check-ins every few days. Meanwhile the vet reached out to Darbster to let them know the kitten's condition. They didn't seem concerned, and never reached out to me throughout this entire ordeal, which lasted about a month, to check on his condition. After speaking with them, the vet called me to advise me that Darbster had actually left my kitten on the van when he was transported from Florida. When the van came up from Florida to drop all of the kittens off in Manchester, they left mine on the van "accidentally" and he went all the way back to Florida..... with no food or water for DAYS.... because no one checked to see that he was in still the van. They never told me this when I picked him up or at any point; I learned this from the vet. You would think they would have kept him in their care and made sure that he was medically sound before adopting him out or "medial fostering" him. Instead, they gave him to me with the wrong medication and literally on his death bed. Granted, we took great care of him, but they should not be giving cats to people that are in that bad of condition, and if so, not being upfront and honest about it. They have still to this day never called to check in on him. He has made a full recovery, and is doing great now with the help of the vet that they got me into contact with (who also wants nothing to do with them now). He is happy and healthy. I do not recommend this establishment whatsoever and will never do business with them again. There are plenty of other great places in NH to adopt from. read more

I dropped of Milo because we thought our daughter was allergic to him, we just got him last week and come to find out my daughter is allergic to tide. My daughter is crying and wanting Milo back but the Darbster Kitty foundation will not give him back. This was a total misunderstanding and they should give Milo back. I even offered to pay the fee for keeping him for 1 night. This place has destroyed an 8 years olds feelings as well as MIlo parents. Not happy read more

DO NOT GO WITH THEM!!! I was really wanting to adopt a perfect little kitten and saw that they were nearby. First things first, the place was unsanitary and smelt like a petting zoo. FIRST RED FLAG. They could at least clean to the best of their ability but no. As soon as you walked in, the smell was absolutely unbearable. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, it could've been an off day for cleaning I suppose. Along with the smell, I saw a dead roach on the floor. Red flag number 2.. A couple hours later, I have adopted the most precious perfect kitten. As I would later find out... she was not so perfect; meaning her health was not so good. They had previously stated that my kitten has been tested and cleared for worms and other kitty diseases, but it turned out to be untrue. A couple weeks later, I saw that she was getting a cold with a bad fever and her stool was looking quite odd. I quickly ran to the vet and they tested her positive for having worms, and feline leukemia. I was HORRIFIED. Giving these people a call back, to my non-surprise... I get NO response. My little girl has been through so much and I am getting the help that she needs to get through her troubles, but this "establishment" needs to be taken down and get a health violation. They are NOT fit to be doing what they are doing. I am very upset that they would lie straight to my face, print false paperwork with false results. I am currently thinking of suing this place for the wrongdoings that they have done. read more

I am sooooo glad I found Darbster Kitty! I absolutely could not have asked for a better kitten. Burton is bright, sweet, affectionate, talkative, silly, playful, snuggly - pretty much perfect. The adoption fee is beyond reasonable, especially when you consider what it would cost to get a "free" kitten up to speed, meaning the exams, vaccines, fecal check(s), deworming, microchip, FeLV/FIV test, spaying/neutering, and miscellaneous kitten stuff (ear mite check/meds, flea treatment, etc.). That could easily run $500+. I can also tell you from working in vet med for 13 years and being quite familiar with NH state law as it pertains to companion animals, as well as best practices medically and ethically, Darbster Kitty is totally on their game - and I honestly couldn't say that about many rescues! Their whole process is by the book, and applicant screening is very thorough. Their adoption terms and requirements are totally reasonable expectations of any responsible pet owner. I feel very lucky to have found Darbster Kitty - and Burton! Thank you so much for all you do! read more

Place really sucks they show cats you say you want to adopt the cat and they take your money, then say the cat was not a available. Took my application fee - I asked for it back because the cat I wanted was never available. They said they'd give me a refund, but I never saw the money returned or had a second email answered. Life and love denied. We were rejected from adopting a cat because we would allow it access to the outdoors if it wanted. We are a very animal-loving vegan family who just recently lost our dog of 12 years and were looking forward to getting a cat. We live on 7 acres of land, about 250 yards from the road. We have had cats before that were allowed to go outside and sit on the porch if they wanted; we never had a problem. We don't want to keep them cooped up and locked in the house like a cage if they don't want to be, that's it. All we wanted was to give a happy, free life to a lovely cat who needs a better home. With such an excess of needy animals in the world, you would think they would at least meet with us to see if we would be a good fit instead of just reject us based on our application where we said we would allow the cat access to the outside. It's honestly heartbreaking. Glad they are doing this and rescuing kitties, but it has cost a cat a lovely home and cost us a sweet companion. We are all extremely disappointed. A total missed opportunity. :( These ridiculous rules make adoption much harder than it should be and partially explain why shelters and other adoption organizations are overflowing. read more

The kitten I adopted had Feline calicivirus/ feline herpes both are highly contagious for up to a month post active virus. My kitten was nearly dead 6 days post adoption. My Vet wanted to speak to the director MP to inform her that she has an obligation to inform others of this contagious virus but she flat out refused stating my Vet didn't know what he was talking about (LOL imagine that a highly successful veterinary hospital didn't know what they were talking about) . The director said she has no obligation to either speak to him or inform others. The fake so-called free insurance Darbster Kitty provided is a scam and will NOT pay out the Vet bills. My kitten is doing very well now but was barely alive by the 7th day and was down to 2 lbs in weight. And I'm out about $600.00 If your cat/kitten gets sick here you will know why as this is highly contagious and they have refused to sanitize the facility after and will not tell you about it. Btw before heading in to this place this virus is highly contagious for up to a month on any surface such as your shoes/clothes to healthy cats. read more

Filled out their application, paid 10 bucks just to do that... Got approved, called them up per their instructions to set up an appointment. Got the run around.... Met with 3 cats, all noted as "available" yet each time I made it to the next step in the process they were adopted by someone else... or "put on hold" I was emotionally abused by this service. I fell in love with those little kittys. I am not happy with this place. The last straw was when I finally got fed up and they said "OK Well if this kitten isn't adopted by tomorrow night you can maybe come in Monday to meet them." I was done. This place is horrible, and as far as I am concerned abuse their animals (By not allowing people to adopt them when they have approval) and their consumers by letting them interact with animals they never plan to allow you to adopt. I should also mention that their staff is freaking terrible at explaining the process. Now I'm depressed, and kittenless... Not to mention the fact that I took time off work thinking I'd be going home with a new kitten I'd have to home and care for only to essentially lose a whole day. Worst experience ever. read more

They sent my first cat home with me with no problems, the second was sent here from Florida at 3 weeks old (that's illegal) and when he was finally able to come home he came home with fleas, not neutered (which part of the agreement with my adoption is that he would be neutered) and so I had to pay out of my OWN pocket to have him neutered. And after sending them the receipt and proof that he was neutered they still did not refund me for the procedure. Do NOT adopt from Darbster Kitty. They are running illegally, and I have told the state but they don't seem to care that they no longer have their license to adopt out animals and that they do not care for the animals they have at the shelter. If you love animals, then shut Darbster down! read more

Sent four kittens on Delta Airlines from West Palm Beach to Manchester New Hampshire. They will not send pics of them showing they made it alive and well. My concern for this is because two were sick when they flew. Sweetie ( long haired maine coon mix beauty) and Toby (Orange kitten with a two inch tail) and Sophia (siamese 4 month old) and Milo (black sibling to Sophia). Toby and Sweetie flew up March 31. The other two a month earlier. I posted on their facebook page asking to show arrival pics so we know they made it off plane alive as Delta doesnt have the best track record for animals in cargo. Things happen sometimes and lives are lost. Darbster refuses to send video or photos of the cats. Ellen the director sent me a message on facebook saying she will send me a copy of their health certificate. What a joke. Anyone can have a cert of health made by a vet without a body present. I asked again for pics or video as her foster coordinater here in Florida said she had video and pics yet refuses to show them. So it turns out that Darbster has a lot of people who lie to others. Refuses to show that cats and kittens have made it off plane alive and well. They claim they have never lost one but wont bother to send you pics off the plane. So all we can assume is they both died on the plane. read more

We got our second fur baby from Darbster Kitty, and we can't thank them enough for giving our sweet muffin a second chance at life. She was only a 10 week old baby when we got her, and they shipped her up from Florida, taking her from a high-kill shelter. We were told that our kitty most likely would not have made it without the good people at Darbster Kitty, and without us waiting for her at the other end. She's our all-black ninja love bunny, but because of her color, it automatically put her at high risk for euthanasia because nobody wants black cats due to the silly myth of bad luck. But she has been nothing but a purring bundle of happiness since coming to us, and the people at Darbster made the process go quickly and easily. Our baby was well cared-for and thoroughly checked out and even spayed and microchipped and ready to go! I wish we had room for more fur babies - because I would absolutely go through them again. They were excellent to work with and made the whole process an affordable pleasure. I make sure everyone knows where we got our kitty from. After all - the best things are rescued. read more
