I highly recommend Paws of New England. I adopted a little Chihuahua/Dachshund mix. She had a lot of fear in the beginning. Her foster mother, Renee, guided me in making the transition. Nova is now a very loving and sociable dog with people and other dogs. She just wants to be loved and cuddled. She brings so much joy to our lives.

PAWS New England is an excellent rescue. Many of their dogs are initially fostered in southern states and brought to New England to either continue in foster or go to wonderful homes. I adopted my dog Chip a few months ago and it turned out he had some medicinal issues no one was aware of prior to his adoption and PAWS has been absolutely amazing, going above and beyond to help me throughout this journey. All of the volunteers are great and have a lot of information and experience to help you with whatever you may need.

I had…read morepreviously had my family dog for 15 years and about 2 1/2 years after she had passed my friend at work happened to send me a picture of an adorable Shar-Pei mix from One Tail at a Time that needed a home (Meri was her adoption name). While I was not "looking" for a dog, I have always been an avid animal lover and once I saw that picture I couldn't help but look into the rescue more and this puppy !! Needless to say, the staff at One Tail was informative, helpful, and amazing with their animals. Their adoption process is detailed and may take a few days longer than others, but it is due to the fact that they research and make sure each dog goes to a great and well fitting family. I was impressed that when they asked for references they actually followed-up with each one I gave!!! Which to me means not only did I take the time & put my heart into this process but they did as well! Once I received word that my application was accepted they scheduled the pick-up at a local pet-store. When I arrived they had informed me that my pup unfortunately needed to stop by the vet first since she wasn't feeling well that morning. While I was a little sad I had to wait a couple extra hours to get my little puppy home, I was so happy they took the time to make sure she was happy and healthy before sending her home! And they even offered to keep her an extra couple days at no extra cost to make sure she was ALL SET, I did however take her home that afternoon and she has been an amazing addition to my house ever since!! (for the past year :) ) One Tail is a great organization and the volunteers and employees really care about the animals they are placing, it's not just a first-come first-served situation. Great Experience overall and I would recommend (and have) using them for anyone or any family searching for a new furry addition to their home!!

I was SO impressed with everything from the application process through bringing her home but I am most grateful for the thoughtful placement. We really did search and search. The descriptions of Freya and thoughtful back and forth when I started the application process described her so clearly and perfectly. She really is the best dog and the best fit for our family and now four years later I am still so grateful to this organization for their help to bring our girl home. Thank you thank you thank you from one very happy and grateful family.

Found their website and emailed them and called as I could not fill in the application from my computer. They replied, mentioned and sent a picture of Jolene, a beautiful black/white 2 yr. old tuxedo female cat. Had a meet and greet at the foster moms home and Jolene and I had an instant connection. She was purring, rubbed up against me, talked. It felt as if we had known each other for ever. Jolene was a perfect companion for me and Jolene was mine before I left the home. I picked her up at the Petco store in Plaistow, NH, filled out the paperwork, bought furniture, food, toys and things Jolene would need. She is my baby. What a joy she is. Has checked out every inch of my apartment and has made herself right at home. Very affectionate, follows me everywhere. We get along just fine. I am very thankful to Animal Rescue Merrimack Valley for introducing me to my Jolene. They are the best!

After spending 4 hrs mtg and wtg l told them I wanted to come back during their free adoption event to adopt (as many others were obviously doing). I wanted to think about it because I would rather use adoption money to go towards the dog's medical treatment. I was nastly told by a staff woman standing at the desk and overheard, "fine if the dog doesn't get adopted by then". So I asked if I could make a deposit or do anything at all to try to hold the dog and was adamantly told no "first come first serve period"! I totally understood that if I waited he may get adopted and had seriously considered going back to pay the $500 fee. However, I received a call back that they gave me the wrong dates of the free waiver event and wanted to let me know because and I quote on phone recording "my meeting went well and they would love for me to be able to bring the dog home". Again I was told to get there first because it was first come, first serve if he wasn't ADOPTED in the meantime. l want to be clear that my complaint isn't with the young lady whom helped me with my 1st meeting, or the call back person, and the lovely receptionist, they were great. So I called back, left a message, to ensure that it was the 14th not 13th because I definitely wanted to adopt the dog, will be there first in line if he wasn't ADOPTED over the weekend. After once again driving THREE HOURS there, I STOOD IN LINE FOR 1/12 hrs TO BE "FIRST IN LINE'. I tell them I want to adopt the dog!, I received a call that everything went well, my dog and their dog met and there were no issues I was made aware of. Staff person says wait she has to talk to a manager. Mgr tells me no I can't adopt the dog they have someone with an APPOINTMENT LATER WAITING who wants to see a behaviorist first and get more info and says quietly so no on but me hears, they're not even sure yet. I am absolutely lived and yes yelling because they're not supposed to hold dogs that are starred because they are considered highly needed to be adopted out because they have been there for a long time and not doing too great in the shelter and NOT for people who say they are just INTERESTED. This is why they have the fee waiver event isn't it! So now with a nasty smug attitude and smirk at me she states they're doing what's best for the dog and they have lots of APPLICANTS. I was told when asked about my online application being in the system they didn't take online applications only the people who came in person and met with them. They didn't tell me I could make an appointment with a behaviorist that would ensure my HOLD on the dog like they did for the other people. SO THEY ARE IN FACT LIARS, BECAUSE THEY WILL HOLD A DOG FOR WHOMEVER THEY PLEASE, that must have given them some damn good reason to do so. Now after over 12 hours of driving back and forth, putting my dog thru it all, spending hours waiting and meeting with the dog and staff, they give the dog to someone else with absolutely no courtesy of an explanation of why. I get that they want to do what's best for the dog that's been there a long time and was sent back after a previously failed adoption. But you should know they certainly don't give a damn about you, your heartbroken feelings and what you go thru. PLEASE don't for a minute believe anything they tell you. Even if you have 3 1/2 acres of private land, stay at home, spent over ten thousands dollars in medical care on other dogs, have over 10 yrs experience with a pit mix that you took from the street and spoil it ridiculously, used professional trainers to ensure that you've learned from previous mistakes and do your best now; because that's not good enough for them. Yes, I called the President to complain, and are now playing telephone tag with Deb. who may not bother and that may be for the best because I am so upset I am shaking now. Yes, I know in the end they will say too bad they lied, they don't care as long as the animals get adopted, because they were able to make 'special arrangements' at the discretion of their managers. Even if they had said they were sorry it really means nothing to them. You have been warned, your feelings and efforts have absolutely no bearing on adoption at the MSPCA. 2 more things: BE AWARE they intentionally withhold info on descriptions. they may not tell you a dog has been returned because it wasn't suitable with children before, will jump all over you, has serious medical issues, bite when being fed etc., info from me and others that I spoke with in line and my brother who adopted a cat that had a botched spay done by their vet(in Salem), they refused to believe him, take responsibility so he had to go somewhere else to have fixed.

Someone stole/kidnapped my cat from my neighborhood and brought him to Nevin's farm. I saw my cat Simba on their website and went there to pick him up. The uncaring staff at Nevin's farm told me that somone had already adopted my cat. The just kept siting legalise and telling me they had a legal right to do so. Ok, fine, but what about a little compassion? They allow people to kidnap/steal cats and drop them off. Do they even care if someone is stealing/kidnapping another person's family member? I don't trust or like anyone who doesn't care for animals. It's even worse when it's an organization that purports to care about animals. Shame on them! They are some of the meanest people I've ever met.

**Super uncomfortable experience**…read more A little while back me and my bf were searching for a new addition to our fur babies. I naturally wanted to adopt (as I had rescued our first two from behind a dumpster) knowing how much rescuing means fo animals in need and myself. It wasn't what I expected from a typical shelter set up; the area for the cats were some trailers behind a building in a lot. But the facility was clean and the team trying to assist us was very lovely. It was my first time trying to adopt through a shelter and wasn't sure what to expect and I'm don't feel I did, but since it was my first experience I'm also not sure if something I did was offensive because the woman who seemed to be running the shelter wouldn't let any staff show us a single cat. There wasn't a ton of cats there but possibly around a dozen or so. She was very terse, told us all the cats were either spoken for or couldn't be adopted yet. We asked if there were any we could visit with and one staff member was about to show us the back room where he said some were up for adoption when this woman cut him off saying "no they can not see those cats". It was so odd as if she did not want us to adopt any of her cats however I'm totally baffled as to what that reason could be. Possibly just a bad day and we caught her at the wrong time? We are a couple in our 30s, friendly and polite. We both work with the public and are pretty good at being thoughtful in interactions with others. Felt perhaps she just didn't like how we looked or something and was dead set on not helping us. Felt so uncomfortable, judged and unwanted from the whole situation and I would never try to adopt from this location ever again. **I have since adopted from other shelters and had wonderful experiences**

I had called a place this place and I feel like giving their names, but I won't go that low as they do so anyhow I called this place because my feral cat named Tom who again i've been taking care of so he not only was waiting three hours in a cage inside my home which he didn't like in the first place he had to wait 2 1/2 weeks for his appointment on April 14 to get neutered so let's fast forward here on Sunday the day of him trying to get neutered this lady messages me and says I'm sorry but your cat has cancer so my husband said hold on let me go talk to my wife about this right like a second later, she messages back and says do not worry about it. We already put your cat down now if I'm not mistaken How dare you take it upon yourself to God and put my cat down without notifying the owners of the cat feral or not that is not why the cat went there that wasn't their decision to put my cat down, but they took it upon themselves because they didn't want the cat to suffer obviously, we were not gonna let the cat suffer, but we would like to be there when the cat was being put down in the first place That should've never happened and then another thing were you even gonna give me my cat back I had to notify them and ask them for the paperwork and for my cat and then when they gave me my cat, they stuffed them in a trash bag. This place is absolutely Ludacris. It's the TNR the catch and release the feral program They should've never did what they did. I understand that my cat had cancer, but I also understand that you go ahead and you put my cat down without us being notified First about. It is absolutely disgusting. I do not recommend this place if you wanna keep your cat very wrong and many many ways you do not put someone's animal down and not notify the owners of the of the cat. It's absolutely wrong and so many ways you do not do something like that and you do not shove the cat inside a freaking garbage bag, so I have my cat and my cat is buried right where he always used to hang out. I'm not suffering anymore and I would've never let him suffer in the first place but how dare this place put my baby down that I loved and I cared for very much because they think that they have the right to do something like that which they don'tand I won't give them names but if they read this review, they will know who they are. That was out of Laconia as well. Do not contact this place.
