This is our adorable new furbaby named Sugar!

If you are looking to adopt your forever furbaby, this is the place to go. Megan was great with the entire process. We adopted Sugar yesterday. She is such a lovebug. My husband and I are so happy. We highly recommend this place!

This is my second dog that I have adopted. The first from Cape Ann. I had such a good experience. Everything from the interaction with the staff, to the layout of the building, and for the area that the dogs get a chance to interact. I've read reviews about previous adoptions and how the dogs breed wasn't what the adopter expected. And they gave 1 star based on that...not every dog will end up being great, but much has to do on the training and caring of the animal once it leaves the facility. In my opinion, I could tell by the volunteers and staff that I met today - that everyone was extremely genuine and cared for the well being of these animals. If you are adopting (which I recommend doing), please consider giving these guys a chance. This place does a phenomenal job and I'm so glad that I went there for my adoption.

what a wonderful place! i recently adopted a puppy here and i am impressed with their care for the animals as well as the whole adoption process. the 'meet and greet' areas are great as are the folks who work and volunteer there. you can tell that it's a labour of love. when people stop and meet my puppy they ask where he came from and if there are any more like him. i am happy to refer them to CAAA.

It was clear to me that they really know each of their cats and care for them very well--they took the time to get to know me and understand what I was looking for, and suggested a cat who seemed like the perfect fit. They both were eager to answer all of my many questions throughout the process and even helped me out by dropping my new kitty off since I don't have a car. My girl had a few minor health issues after arriving (most likely due to the stress of moving/change in food) and Susan offered me advice about different things I could try and followed up numerous times to make sure she was settling in okay. The process overall couldn't have been any smoother and I am so appreciative of Guardian Angels and the care and diligence they put into finding good homes for all of their cats. They replied, mentioned and sent a picture of Jolene, a beautiful black/white 2 yr. old tuxedo female cat. Had a meet and greet at the foster moms home and Jolene and I had an instant connection. She was purring, rubbed up against me, talked. It felt as if we had known each other for ever. Jolene was a perfect companion for me and Jolene was mine before I left the home. I picked her up at the Petco store in Plaistow, NH, filled out the paperwork, bought furniture, food, toys and things Jolene would need. She is my baby. What a joy she is. Has checked out every inch of my apartment and has made herself right at home. Very affectionate, follows me everywhere. We get along just fine. I am very thankful to Animal Rescue Merrimack Valley for introducing me to my Jolene. They are the best!

They have strict rules that don't make sense to me. I was told the owner would help talk to the adoption Lady, but unfortunately that seems like it didn't work out very well. I had the same cat for 15 years and was 17 when he passed. I moved into a bigger apartment to give him more space and easy access to various parts of the new apartment. Unfortunately he passed away. When I applied I was denied because I have only lived in my current place for 6 months. I offered to provided references, to speak to my vet and provide my past landlords number. I explained that I live in an apartment ran by a property management company and that they could try to speak with someone but it was very hard. I gave them a copy of my lease that says I am allowed to pets. I was denied still. This makes me sad, because I just want to give a furry friend a forever home and the adoption lady was not willing to.

They take in animals that are sick or hurt and lovingly look for homes for all of them. I adopted my two kittens from the shelter just over a year ago. They had been taken, along with their mother and a few other cats, from a hoarder's home. Because they were so young, the mother and the litter were placed in foster care until the kittens were ready to go to their forever homes. As soon as all of the kittens were placed, the mom was spayed and placed in her own forever home shortly thereafter. The staff is incredibly loving and caring. While I was not "looking" for a dog, I have always been an avid animal lover and once I saw that picture I couldn't help but look into the rescue more and this puppy !! Needless to say, the staff at One Tail was informative, helpful, and amazing with their animals. Their adoption process is detailed and may take a few days longer than others, but it is due to the fact that they research and make sure each dog goes to a great and well fitting family. I was impressed that when they asked for references they actually followed-up with each one I gave!!! Which to me means not only did I take the time & put my heart into this process but they did as well! Once I received word that my application was accepted they scheduled the pick-up at a local pet-store. When I arrived they had informed me that my pup unfortunately needed to stop by the vet first since she wasn't feeling well that morning. While I was a little sad I had to wait a couple extra hours to get my little puppy home, I was so happy they took the time to make sure she was happy and healthy before sending her home! And they even offered to keep her an extra couple days at no extra cost to make sure she was ALL SET, I did however take her home that afternoon and she has been an amazing addition to my house ever since!! (for the past year :) ) One Tail is a great organization and the volunteers and employees really care about the animals they are placing, it's not just a first-come first-served situation. She had a serious infection and we had to make several trips to the vet to get her the proper medication, but ACAR paid for all of the medication and vet fees. An added bonus is that the adoption fee includes spay/neuter for your kitten, as well as all necessary vaccinations!

A fantastic idea that I wish more shelters took advantage of. After a few weeks of insufferably cute faces and accompanying sad stories, I ventured over. Be sure to check the hours on their website, because they're only open a couple of hours some days, and longer hours others, due to it being staffed almost entirely by volunteers. It turns out that they are affiliated with the town animal control department and many of their rescues have been picked up as strays, or left behind after a move. They also accept dropped off pets, though preferably not the 'basket left on the doorstep' kind, which sadly was part of some of the cats' histories. I found a clean, organized place with cats at one end of the building and dogs at the other. Lots of helpful staff cleaning cages, socializing animals and carrying out the administrative side of the shelter. I was able to walk through the cat room, interacting with the cats in cages (roomy, scratching posts and individual litter-boxes), and with some that are allowed to roam freely while volunteers are there. They also have a couple of communal cat rooms with several cats living happily together. The volunteers answered questions, and I was able to use a visiting room to see a couple of cats 1 on 1. On my second visit I met Jack-O. He was a fixed, 6 year old male tuxedo cat. He was terrified of having gone from owner, to shelter, to quarantine, to the vet and finally to a room full of cats in cages. I could see in his eyes that he had just disconnected and gone to a happy place in his head. He didn't respond to verbal or food-based cues, just stayed curled up with that 'thousand yard stare'. I knew he was the one for me. The adoption process was pretty simple; Application, references checked (previous pets and the vets that cared for them) and a reasonable fee for the process (includes fixing, if necessary). I found everyone that I dealt with pleasant, professional and above all devoted to placing all those animals in good homes. Four years later Merlin (formerly Jack-O) is a happy, healthy, furry, non-rent paying roommate with a passion for chirping at birds and knocking over priceless knick-knacks. He contributes only to my sanity, refusing to deal with ground level threats like ants and spiders. I'm still a sucker for the cable show highlighting their adoptables, and often watch with Merlin directly in front of the television occasionally reaching out to see who these intruders in our living room are.
