However, the dog was much older and despite loving our family, was vicious to strangers and, by the behest of local cops, had to eventually be euthanized after severely biting neighborhood children. They lied about age, trauma and lineage. The toll on my family won't go unnoticed. Since then, we'll only adopt from foster families. Not worth worrying about whether or not some angst ridden caretaker kicked the kennel or physically abused an animal. It's a liability people should examine. Now, I'm the happy human of 2 beautiful and kind dogs adopted from loving families. These pups were treated MUCH BETTER as they should (and it shows) Gor now we live with the trauma of LRHS' deception.

To have 40 adult cats and deny a perfectly good home to a cat is absolute cruelty, and not operating in the best interest for these animals. When visiting cats are locked in a room that smelled puke and cats having poop on their rears, which a nice home sounds a lot better than this. This place would be better off renaming their organization "Safe Haven INHUMANE Society: A place where we don't operate in the best intentions for our cats." Hopefully they change this and give these pets a real genuine second lease on life. As I feel sad these cats aren't able to find their forever home, but until then the people who work here should feel shame in denying perfectly fit homes for these lovely cats.

The entire place is so clean in every corner, that you can be assured any pet you adopt from here has had exceptional care and love. Andy works there and he is one of those people who just glows with compassion. He was so kind and patient with our children, informative and clearly loves all the animals. I had…read morepreviously had my family dog for 15 years and about 2 1/2 years after she had passed my friend at work happened to send me a picture of an adorable Shar-Pei mix from One Tail at a Time that needed a home (Meri was her adoption name). While I was not "looking" for a dog, I have always been an avid animal lover and once I saw that picture I couldn't help but look into the rescue more and this puppy !! Needless to say, the staff at One Tail was informative,helpful, and amazing with their animals. Their adoption process is detailed and may take a few days longer than others, but it is due to the fact that they research and make sure each dog goes to a great and well fitting family. I was impressed that when they asked for references they actually followed-up with each one I gave!!! Which to me means not only did I take the time & put my heart into this process but they did as well! Once I received word that my application was accepted they scheduled the pick-up at a local pet-store. When I arrived they had informed me that my pup unfortunately needed to stop by the vet first since she wasn't feeling well that morning. While I was a little sad I had to wait a couple extra hours to get my little puppy home, I was so happy they took the time to make sure she was happy and healthy before sending her home! And they even offered to keep her an extra couple days at no extra cost to make sure she was ALL SET, I did however take her home that afternoon and she has been an amazing addition to my house ever since!! (for the past year :) ) One Tail is a great organization and the volunteers and employees really care about the animals they are placing, it's not just a first-come first-served situation. Great Experience overall and I would recommend (and have) using them for anyone or any family searching for a new furry addition to their home!!

So after about a couple of watching them not acting right. They would not really touched the floor like it was lava. One of Minnie (who we also got there at the shelter in kennebunk) when I picked Minnie one her name and she wanted attention for loving.) Well Gregory acted the same way so I wanted him To be in our family. The unique thing was that he had the floor and the apt. The shelter at first when I said I wanted him and because he was younger and I am diabetic so they wanted me take home one of the older cats were already declared I promised I would not have him declawed. I also knew it is easier to fit in because they havent gotten in a set way of being. It also easier doer the girls. My adoption process a couple months ago went very well. I arrived without any pets, and left with…read moretwo kitties! I walked in without an appointment, a couple hours after opening. There were some people there, either in the main waiting room or walking through the separate pet areas... wasn't too busy. Was greeted by staff behind the counter and I told them I wanted to look at some cats. They have you fill out some paperwork, mainly about what you're looking for and what your home environment is like (senior cat, kittens, other pets at home, kids at home, etc) to help them in finding an appropriate cat for you. You wait for a bit so they can find a staff member to walk through the cattels with you. You get to meet them, and pick some up in some instances. I deliberated because I intended to get a senior cat, but many of them had behavioral or extra medical problems. I ended up getting a disgustingly cute and impossibly smol brother and sister, and they've been wonderful. It may not be the cheapest, depending on which pet you want to take home, but obviously that cost goes into the program and really, can you put a price on a new family member?

She hade Lyme disease and flea problems and…read moretick problems but they were up front with me and I bonded with her instantly and took her anyway. She was free from Lyme disease after some treatment and we treated her with medication for the tick and flea problems but they and she was all cleared up in 3 months time. She was so smart and loving but now she is dying. Arbor Veterinary gave her the rabies shot in the wrong place and paralyzed her and she may have 2 days left she is in really bad shape. I can't even get her to eat anymore. She locked her jaw. I'm really going to miss her when she passes and I don't know how I'm going to come up with the money for cremation because I was scammed for $5000 and we have no more money.

My parents adopted a puppy from them who should never have been adopted out in the first place…read more They told my parents he had previously had kennel cough and was fully treated for it. This puppy was emaciated, and diagnosed with very severe pneumonia not even 3 days after being adopted by my parents. He was having problems breathing so they rushed him to the vet. The poor puppy, neglected by the spca, is now dead. My mom called them as soon as they got home from the vet with the puppy, telling them they need to pay the vet bill because this puppy has severe pneumonia which does NOT happen in a matter of a few days... the receptionist, manager, AND director did not give a f**** and basically told my mother tough sh**t. A report with the NH State Veterinarian is being filed, as well as documentation and support from my parents veterinarian, and they are also in contact with the attorney general. What the NH SPCA did was ILLEGAL and cruel to the poor puppy that is now decreased, and cruel to my parents. No human or animal should have to go through this ever again.
