This restaurant is fantastic. It is pretty, clean and the service is great. The food is outrageous. I cannot wait to go back. I had the crispy eggplant that was in a chickpea flour crust, extremely crispy and delicious. My husband had a Mango shrimp appetizer that was perfect. I had the mixed tandori grill that was the best tandori I have had in ages and will order next time as well. It comes with an orange tikka masala sauce that was great. My husband's main course was chicken in a southern Indian curry that he loved and he asked for spicy and it was spicy. This was an amazing find and I strongly recommend it. Early on Valentine's Day we realized that our teenagers had plans that would leave us free for a romantic dinner. Exciting! We've been to Veda numerous times and have found the food, service and atmosphere to be top notch. We called, with not a lot of hope of getting a reservation with such short notice but were in luck. We arrived to find a fixed, five course Valentine's Day menu waiting at the table. My wife is not usually the adventurous type when it comes to food selection and she was anticipating a meal of some of her favorite dishes. After talking it over we agreed to abandon ourselves to the moment and go with the chef's menu. You go to see a cover band...best of the Beatles say...and they are really great. You hear all the songs that you are familiar with performed wonderfully. One night you go to the club and the band announces that they are going to play their original music. Uh oh...uncharted waters. As the first song begins you are pleasantly surprised. It's good. As the night goes on you realize that it's way beyond good; that you are experiencing something special. Something truly memorable. Original, breathtaking art. This is the best way to describe our Valentine's 2021 meal. We trusted our palates to the chef and he delivered one of the best meals I've had in my life. I'm not being hyperbolic nor am I a relative of the chef! When I'm an old...or I guess older...man and someone asks me about food I will have the memory of this meal at the front of my mind. For those interested this is how the course flowed: Course 1 - Leek & Parsnip Soup. The flavor of the soup combined with the thin, slight crunch of the parsnip. First batter up...homerun! Course 2 - Chef Salad (arugula, pears, orange, apple, corn, cherry tomatoes, caramelized peanuts, avocado, house dressing) The flavors and textures blended perfectly to create something truly unique and outstanding. The meal could have ended here and it still would have been a 5 star review. Course 3 -Beetroot tiki with raspberry goat cheese served with masala hummus. My wife's dish. Sarso Ki Machi (monkfish). My dish. Of course we shared! Probably the first time in over 20 years of marriage that neither of us was not disappointed at their own pick when they tasted the other's dish. Both were equally amazing! Words can do no justice to the level of flavor that these dishes delivered. Course 4 - Dilku Kofta (yogurt, cottage cheese, ginger, chili, mahkni sauce). My wife's dish. Achari Masala Murgh(Tender Chicken Breast, Madras Curry, Lemon Garlic Purée). My dish. Every course eclipsed the course it followed...and each was incredible. The chicken was moist and the sauce...I don't know...honored it. When I tasted my wife's dish it was exceptional in a completely different way. The chef popped out of the kitchen but we were literally tongue tied and didn't express ourselves well. I would have hugged him but that would have been weird even outside of these pandemic days. This meal was a gift. Course 5 - Chocolate Cake with Raspberry Gelato. We were a little concerned when we first saw the dessert because we love traditional Indian desserts...but it was the perfect end to the meal. It really wasn't chocolate cake...it was a giant wedge of dark chocolate fudge. Heaven on a plate! The raspberry gelato and crushed nuts that decorated the plate created a truly harmonious sweet finale to the night. Chicken tikka masala is a staple but this time the chicken was not as tender and a little on the sweeter side, not my favorite this time. I came here tonight for my birthday with my family on the recommendation of my dad. Seriously such a good choice! Interior: lovely, clean, a little bit dim in lighting Service: attentive, friendly, helpful--made the experience so much more enjoyable! My family didn't know how much to order (or what to order for that matter) and the waiter was very knowledgeable about each dish and what would create a nice variety on our table. Food: beautifully plated and delicious. We ordered two appetizers, and four entrees (or was it three...)for a table of five. If you want a little taste of everything tandoori I would recommend getting the mixed tandoori grill. It came with kabobs, lamb, chicken, shrimp, and a side of asparagus and potatoes. After tasting this dish my only regret was that I didn't order an entree with more lamb. It was so tender and flavorful. I personally preferred it over the chicken, even though the chicken was equally tasty. We also ordered a chickpea entree (it's the second item on the entree menu) which was great, an order of tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala, and...I believe one more entree, but now my memory is failing me. All of it was delicious! The icing on the cake was that my parents mentioned it was my birthday today so the waiter brought out a complimentary ice cream dessert. Oh man was this a new taste on our tongues. Some of my family didn't like it, but my mom and I dug into it. It was an ice cream full of dried fruit, nuts, and we later discovered fennel seed! Really very yummy, and so sweet of the waiter. Be adventurous and try something new here! Ask for recommendations. Look for something that might be different than you're used to. Surprised to see a new name on the restaurant, when we thought we were going to Kinara. The change seemed to have happened overnight/very quickly. BYOB! About 75% full for a Friday night which is a good sign. A waiter looked familiar, but the menu is definitely different. The tables were too closed together, leaving very little room to walk pass. The samosas were tasty with a little spicy kick (not too much) served with a fruit chutney. Family basket of naan was a good choice, with regular, garlic and onion. The chicken tiki masala (sauce was perfect for the naan), mixed grill meats and cauliflower was flavorful. The timing was off, one entree was missing and after following up, it was bought out after the rest of the group was almost done. Little mixup with the credit card also. Solid Indian food! Everything seems to run in the spicy side, so keep that in mind when they ask you how spicy you want it. This place replaced Kinara and I think the only complaint is that their Lassuni gobhi-- cauliflower in a red chili garlic sauce-- which had been a sublime dish at Kinara, was now soggy. The entire experience from the food to the service and waitstaff was extraordinary. At the time of our dinner, the restaurant had only been open for 3 weeks, but it feels like they have already found their groove. The service was hands on and at the level of a high end restaurant. For dinner, we (girlfriend and I) shared two appetizers, the pesto paneer tikka and lassuni gobhi. The paneer was firm cottage cheese rolled in spice with a side dipping sauce and the lassuni were fried cauliflower in a ginger-garlic spicy sauce - similar taste to General Tsos. For our entrees, we split garlic naan and chicken tikka masala (served with rice). Both excellent! We also received small complimentary bites from the chef (soup and a small crisp). Veda is the best most high-level Indian restaurant that I know of including those I have eaten at in NYC. The food is so interesting and well prepared and tastes amazing. I only regret that the costs are so high-since the pandemic the increase is really significant and seems more pronounced than other places in Bergen County which also raised their prices. For example $5.00 for onion condiment, entrees are also quite pricey but main courses not so much. The Saag Paneer is amazing, as is the tandoori and basically anything we have ever ordered, no matter how mundane, the preparation is wonderful. read more

Not my favorite preparation of Indian food. It's hard to improve classic Indian dishes. And I find a trend for upscale restaurants to alter these classics changing the balance of spices that are already perfectly balanced. This creates peculiar flavors, over-spicing that's hard to digest, heavy handed on tomatoes. It's the subtlety of spices that make Indian cuisine exquisite. We ordered pick up dinner during this corona virus shut in. They were very patient on the phone and allowed me to substitute salmon for shrimp on a tandoori dish. I asked about the spiciness level because we didn't want anything too spicy. Not knowing Indian food too well, we opted for a minced lamb dish and the above mentioned sub of salmon for a shrimp tandoori dish. They were both delicious!! They have this wonderful orange colored sauce that seems to be tomato and coconut milk based with spices that was great. Also a cilantro sauce was terrific. Rice comes with the entrees and all reheat well. Portions were generous. A fantastic option for those of tired of pasta and middle eastern takeout. Very happy we tried this and will definitely order again. We look forward to actually going in and trying more interesting tasty food. read more

Went here for lunch to try the Buffett and HOLY CRAP was I blown away. Best indian food I have ever eaten, hands down. There were so many delicious options and every single dish was 5 stars. Zero complaints. I remember the Buffett when this placed used to be "Kanara" and this is ten times better than that. The food is exceptional. This review is based on getting delivery twice, since so many places have been recently shut down for indoor dining. The staff is incredibly helpful and patient when I call. Even the delivery staff is always very kind and professional and fast in arriving. The food is VERY VERY FRESH! It is all neatly arranged, served and packed, which I REALLY appreciate. The roasted corn chaat is extremely delicious and it is unbelievable how a "street food" which is made to order can be delivered so fresh and SO flavorful. The zucchini and spinach pakoras are excellent. :-)))) The dal and rice are perfect. I personally can not resist a dal with my favorite nigella seeds....mmmmmm My family got the duck appetizer and said that it was very good but that they preferred the lamb tikki appetizer which they said was absolutely divine and want more of that as I write this.... The papadum (which is my favorite), naan & large assortment of chutneys that we ordered they were all extremely freshly prepared and simply delightful. The Galub Jamun and carrot halwa disappeared instantly. The staff is so nice, that when an order of naan was overlooked, they remedied that immediately w/ a nice treat in a delivery that was included "on the house". There are so many dishes that I would love to try at this restaurant, and the staff is so friendly and accommodating for any particular orders. I think that they are absolutely wonderful and I am so glad to know of a restaurant who is actually so meticulous about their delivery orders! Thank you! Was so excited to try this new Indian restaurant after reading the great reviews. Maybe we were there on an off night, but we have still not recovered a day later. The meal started out lovely. They had two complimentary tasting items, a spicy pea soup and another small bean dish that were pretty good, but the meal went downhill immediately after. The visual presentation of the food is really nice, but the flavors were totally off. The lamb curry did not have a curry flavor and tasted like it was in a heavy and slightly sour tomato sauce. The lamb chops had an odd color to them and the palak paneer had a beautiful color but an odd flavor. But the biggest issue was that none of us felt good when we left the restaurant, and we normally are huge Indian food fans. So we have now been to Veda 2 times... first and last. read more

Five stars for Veda! Just had a wonderful experience here both food and service wise. They bring you complimentary amuse bouche, which was an inviting and much appreciated touch. - a creamy spinach soup and a "bruschetta." Such a fun surprise! For appetizers we ordered the cauliflower, samosas, and roita. All seasoned well with a hint of spice. For our entrees we ordered a chicken curry and gobi matar (cauliflower, peas, and potatoes in a gingery sauce)! Again, both were seasoned well and I left feeling very full and satisfied.
