    Lamb Vindaloo (Indian level spicy...)
    OpineAway C.

Bring back the buffet! I've been here multiple times, pre-covid they had a great buffet lunch which we loved, now it's a la carte. The food is excellent, and when you ask for it to be spicy, it is (is you REALLY like SPICY ask for real Indian level spicy...). The chef is extra nice, and very experienced, and it you can taste the difference in every dish I ever had there. The service is great, prices are a bit high for the location, which is, together with the no lunch buffet or special, is the reason for 4 and not 5 stars - but it really is an excellent place for great quality Indian food.

This is my fourth time dining at Veda and I'm happy to say that each time gets better and better! Veda focuses on serving classic Indian cuisine with a contemporary interpretation. I've tried a variety of dishes and nothing disappoints. Every dish is presented well, rich in flavor, and authentic. The menu has options for both meat lovers and vegetarians. To those who have a lower spice tolerance, no need to worry; there are dishes that range from not spicy at all to very mild spice. The service is excellent. The servers are always welcoming, attentive, and more than happy to help with any menu recommendations. Pricing wise, it is on the higher end for some items and I will admit the meat portions could definitely be better. However, it's worth a try because the food tastes amazing. They also offer a complimentary soup of the day. Here are some of my favorite dishes... *Stuffed Naan with spinach and goat cheese $6 - Come on, you can't go wrong with ordering naan (leavened flatbread). Theirs is soft, fluffy, and pairs well with their fresh sauces. *Samosas $8 - A must try appetizer! It's a fried pastry dough stuffed with spiced potatoes and peas fried golden brown. *Tokree Ki Chaat $14 - This is basically like a "salad" of chickpeas, avocado, potatoes, raw mangoes, and crisps tossed in a spicy sauce. Very refreshing with a spicy kick! *Hyderabadi Angare $16 - Crispy chicken tossed with spiced yogurt, mustard seeds, and curry leaves... delicious! The chicken is super tender. *Chicken Tikka Masala $25 - I know this is a ~bAsiC~ Indian classic, but they do it justice. It's a curried dish made with boneless chicken cubes, ground spices, onions, tomatoes, cream, and herbs. *Rosemary Chicken Malai Tikka $25 - This dish includes boneless chicken marinated with yogurt, cardamom, cream cheese, ginger, and garlic. The seasoning is a match made in heaven, I telllllllllllll you. *Gulab Jamun $6 - This is my FAVORITE dessert. It's milk pastry balls doused in a rose and honey syrup. I recommend to those who have a big sweet tooth. *Malai Ki Kheer $8 - Lychee and rice pudding with sliced nuts and raisins... This is SO GOOD. Perfect for those who want a sweet treat, but nothing overly sweet. If you're in the Bergen County area and love Indian food, don't miss out on this!

Veda is one of the best Indian restaurants in the United States, on a par with the great Indian restaurants in England. We were greeted warmly and seated quickly on a Sunday afternoon. ---- FOOD (5/5) Samosas (5/5) -- Three fried pastries with nicely spiced potatoes and peas and tamarind sauce. ($8) Lamb Vindaloo (5/5) -- IMHO best lamb vindaloo I've had this side of the pond.  Great flavor; terrific spiciness.  ($27) Baingan Bharta (5/5) -- Tasty eggplant baked with tomatoes, onions and herbs.  ($19) Mango Lassi (5/5) -- Perfect accompaniment to the lamb vindaloo. ($5) ----- SERVICE (5/5) Service was polished and attentive.  Our server readily handled some dietary considerations at our table. ----- AMBIANCE (4/5) Very nice Indian decor.  Stained beadboard has been scratched by chair backs and could use refinishing.  We parked on the street in front of the restaurant.

AMAZING!!! The ambiance was lovely, place is clean. The staff was efficient and very friendly. They started us off with a soup sample which was so nice and delicious. The food was PHENOMENAL, flavors were great and the spice was exactly where it had to be. Recommend to anyone in the area, will be back.

I finally ordered takeout from Veda and it was amazing! Saturday evening around 7 pm order was placed. Delivered within 30 minutes. Tried tikka masala, Tandoori chicken, samosas and naan platter. AllAMAZING!! Kids and adults enjoyed!! Many sauces on the side.

It's possible that our order was a fluke compared to previous reviews, but my brother and I had a terrible experience with our take out order of Chicken Tikka Masala, Saag Paneer, and garlic naan. The consistency of Chicken Tikka Masala was more watery than creamy, and the taste average for a rating of three stars. Saag Paneer was a sad paneer deserving of one star. It was not only salty, but also too peppery(?). There was an overload of spices, and they did not mesh well. Garlic naan was nothing special with most of the edges burnt. Two stars. Another disappointment was the portion sizes, although in this case it worked out that there was less food because we barely got through what we had due to the flavor issues. One positive is the exterior, which is brightly lit with string lights, but overall, Veda was lackluster and we will not be returning anytime soon.

You cannot go wrong with Veda! It has fine quality food and the staff is always very welcoming. My favorite is the saag paneer, it has great taste without being spicy. I also love their chicken makhni, it's tender and full of flavor. The chicken tandoori is also a great entree to get! They are a bit on the pricier side, however, it is well worth it. The quality is definitely there.

As soon as you walk in, the warm ambience fills you in. The server greeted us with warm tomato soup which was much like tomato rasam but nonetheless well made. We had two kids with us on the table and they (after checking with us) got some baked chips for the kids. That was very sweet of them as it kept the kids busy :) We ordered their Zucchini pakora and makkai chat for appetizers. Both were really good, especially the pakora. For main course we ordered the Paneer Makhni and Mushroom Methi Malai which weren't as good as the appetizers. Rather they weren't for the real indian palette. Less masala and spice in both. For desserts, we got the gulab jamun, mango rasmalai and paan icecream ..and all of them were in good quantity and quite good. Overall, great hospitality, good appetizers and desserts and ok main courses.

    Amazing kheer!!

So glad that we tried this place!!! All the items we tried were soooo good!!! Order list: - chicken kebabs, the tamarind sauce complimented them so well. - bhopali chicken and daal makhni alongwith naan, parantha and tandoori rotis. The chicken was spicy, as we requested and the chicken was perfectly cooked. The daal makhni had the authentic flavour which is very rare to find in Indian restaurants in Jersey. - Kheer was full of blueberries and blackberries, lots of nuts and was accompanied with raspberry sauce which elevated the taste from the traditional kheer. The server was super friendly and was more than happy to help us when we asked for suggestions. Overall enjoyed our impromptu dinner here and definitely coming back to try more items on the menu. Only one con- on a slightly pricey side. But you will not regret spending money because the taste is amazing!

Enjoying our own mini buffet of delicious entrees!

Insofar as the roti resembled the buttery, flaky layers of a white roti, this was a pleasant order. The roti here are made with whole wheat, which made for a grittier texture that felt...healthy, for all the good and bad of that word. But they were sufficiently buttery, which always helps things. And minor quibbles aside, this was still a fantastic vessel to scoop out every last smear of the tikka masala sauce. Clearly, we liked the chicken tikka masala. With a fragrant, velvety sauce and large chunks of tender chicken, after a few bites of this dish, I found myself announcing to the table, "I feel sorry for anyone who doesn't like Indian food." The chana masala - our other entree - was a little more muted and tomato-forward, but still fantastic. It feels strange to leave praise for rice, but judging from the sheen at the bottom of our rice dish, I suspect they melted and mixed some butter to it (which, again, no complaints here). Service was chill on a Sunday afternoon. Beyond taking our order and dropping off our food, we weren't bothered during our meal (which is the just-right level of attention I generally want from a place). The space is a little run-down but homey, and there's only street parking, but I've never had trouble finding spots here.

But here's the moment that sealed it: we'd had a long morning and asked, somewhat sheepishly, if they could make us chai, which isn't even on the menu. Without missing a beat, they made it. Unfortunately, the service significantly took away from the experience. We made a reservation ahead of time and even called to let them know we'd be about 15 minutes late, yet when we arrived, we were told our reservation had been given away. That was frustrating and set a poor tone for the evening. The restaurant also seemed very understaffed the night we went. Service felt disorganized, and there was a long wait for our food after we were finally seated. It was clear the staff was overwhelmed. The food is absolutely the reason this isn't a lower rating, because there's real potential here. But between giving away reservations and the slow, disorganized service, the overall experience fell short. Hoping this was just an off night because the food deserves better execution.

Its topped with fresh chopped onions, tomato, and cilantro. There's plenty of chicken in it. The platter itself is very small for the price, just a heads up. The aloo parathas are my go to. I've tried the one with the meat and the meat was inconsistently placed throughout the paratha. The aloo paratha is good, but could use more filling. Here's where they lost me: the raita- that yogurt sauce that comes with the paratha- is ALWAYS inconsistent. The first time I ordered the paratha this raita was the best i've ever had. It was raita with added tomato and onions. Blew my mind and I ordered it again. Next time they give me a yogurty mess that I wouldn't call a raita. No added anything. The time after that they forgot to include my raita and when I picked it up later, it was another disappointing variation. I've stopped ordering their parathas because of this since I cant eat dry partha by itself and who knows what kind of raita they'll give me. Overall, I continue to get platters from them because they're within walking distance for me and the CTM rice platter is so good.
