Been a customer for 12 years, and for most of that time it was fine. Service deteriorated (faulty equipment going off at all hours, etc.) and my complaints went unresolved. I can only describe them as hostile to their customers. I had to make several calls before I finally got a real person. They could not finish the process over the phone. I was required to sign a document and email it back to them. The security monitoring service is overpriced and just not worth the trouble dealing with unprofessional staff. You're better off using ring alarm system, equipment is way less than Vectors and it works just fine along with monitoring. read more

Our home was built with Vector Security system, and have had them for 6 years with only complaint being the monthly cost $43 seems high yet maybe not after reading the reviews here. All in all no problems except for power outages when the unit beeps constantly until per is restored. read more

Do not use this company for your security needs. While there are a few outstanding employees that you can depend on to do quality work, this company cannot be trusted. Before I wrote this review I tried to reach management without success. I even called corporate to speak with Pam Petro. I figured she would want to deal with my concerns before I wrote complaints. In short, Vector does not care about their customers. You cannot get to anyone in management to speak with. Local offices could care less about service issues and are very unpleasant to deal with. They act like they are doing you a favor to answer the phone. It's noteworthy that on the job that I was calling about, each renewal year I pay for the ENTIRE year in advance for service. You would think that it would be appreciated. Yes - this includes service. I make one call for service and I am told "sorry our policy has changed... you now have to pay for $45 for a service. call." I could care less about $45 whereas I always give a gratuity of at least $100 to the responding tech. It's just the principle, you should not add fees mid contract, kind of bizarre. Oh and by the way ... we cannot visit your site for a week - this is pathetic when it comes to life safety systems ... additionally, I regularly receive messages that the system is not communicating to Affiliated Central Station in addition to the fact that now fire sensors are not working. This is not good. If you complain you are treated very poorly. The office staff (KJ) loves to pick fights on the phone. Who has time for this ? I should mention that I have extensive experience in the security industry as I was licensed for ~20+ years by the Department of State in the security industry and was a responding Medic for the largest fire department in the nation for over 40 years. What to say. If I have a fire, theft or God forbid fatality due to Vectors negligence I fully intend on holding them responsible. Find a smaller local company to install your burg, fire and or access control system. Avoid Vector Security at all costs. They simply do not care about their customers. To Vector... This company operates like a scam. The equipment is dated and they use parts that are readily available online for a fraction of what they want to charge. Good luck trying to get anything clarified with billing. They can't seem to produce an itemized receipt and there is a complete lack of communication among their departments. I've had Vector Security for 2 years and have never had a problem with the service. However, I recently moved and called to cancel my service only to be made aware that I was under a 5 year contract that I was not aware of. When I first moved to my condo, the representatives visited my condo several times, even though my association does allow solicitors. The last time, the representative came back with his manager. I decided to get services since this was my first time living alone with young children. The representative nor his manager explained to me that there was a 5 year contract for the security service. They had me initial on the manager's cell phone, which at the time I was explained it was the automated payment agreement. Never did I see anything about a 5 year contract. I have never heard of a 5 Year contract for a security service. Cell phone providers don't even have contracts this long. This is truly unheard of and I am extremely dissatisfied! **AVOID AT ALL COST** Somehow, my phone password was changed without my knowledge or my consent. I was unaware of this until recently, when my girlfriend accidentally triggered my alarm. When Vector called me, the passcode was different than what I thought it was and the dispatcher sent the police anyway. The police proceeded to tell me that there was a "strange note" on the "case" that said that I was "not allowed on the property." How in the hell am I not allowed on my own property? I've been a loyal customer for 11 years, yet I have apparently been paying for who knows how many years with essentially half an alarm service. I can't make any changes because I don't know whatever the new password is, but I sure can pay! Vector has lost a customer, but they've somehow even managed to make that process impossible, too. Because my password was changed--again, without my knowledge or consent--I can't even close my account. I'm still waiting for a call back from one of the Virginia Offices on how I can even get the passcode. They can blow up your phone if your payment is 5 minutes late, but they can't return a phone call when it's something to do with anything else. Again: **AVOID AT ALL COST** read more

Awful product, continually have problems with the system losing power and incessantly beeping. Techs come out and can't figure it out then need to schedule and reschedule additional visits. Endless time wasted on a horrible product. Only reason we have it is the house we bought it was already set up, it is garbage and never works well and you can't shut off beeping when there is a problem. Do your homework before deciding on this company Had security system purchased for my new build home in November. Installer forgot the front master bedroom and asked me to place the security monitors on the windows. The sales rep came out to fix. Then the door chime was not compatible with their security system causing the doorbell to ring repeatedly. Had to disconnect the doorbell at night with a screwdriver and was told I had to get an electrician to fix the compatibility issue and they would reimburse and 2 months later I'm still waiting for the reimbursement. The electrician also had to connect the thermostat Wi-Fi since their company doesn't do that. They credited me $125 for that. Also was told I didn't pay for the 2 door keypads which I did pay for on my credit card. Definitely knowing all this I would not have chosen this company. And one of my outdoor cameras is not working was just installed. read more

On Sunday, the carbon monoxide alarm went off and Vector called the local fire department to check it out. A fireman came in and, using a meter, determined that there was no carbon monoxide, telling us that the security company should replace the detector. On Tuesday, the first possible day, I called Vector's local office (Princeton, NJ) and, after waiting an interminable amount of time, was told that the first possible service call was 10 days away and that they had no extra carbon monoxide detectors and would have to order one. Meanwhile, how are we able to leave the house at any time during the 10 days when the broken detector could set off the alarm again? If I left the house, I would be leaving my wife, who has late stage Alzheimer's Disease, and her (foreign-born) aide. When I pointed this out, the service person had no answer for me, repeating that it would take 10 days to come to the house. This kind of service costs me over $70 a month. An alarm company has no "extra" carbon monoxide detectors?! No service people that can come sooner than 10 days?! We've been using Vector for the last 25 years, since the house was built. read more

Installer came to update our system because xfinity and/or verizon were no longer supporting G3. He demanded payment after completing the job. We gave him a check which has cleared our bank. Now i am being billed for the same service. When i called to let them know this, no one answered and had to leave a message. I have not received a call back. I called december 28th. Tnight i received a call at 9:40pm saying they were getting an error message but my control panel was not registering any error message. What is happening with this company? We had to get a new alarm system installed when our existing Vector system was "fried" by a power surge. We were eager to get the system up and working, and asked Vector to send experienced techs. They said they would as they consider us VIP customers - we have used them for decades. When they arrived, we overheard one tech talking to the other who was brand new to the company. It was his first day. They worked for most of the day and did not complete the installation, saying we would have to call the office to schedule a date for them to come back. We had to wait a week for them to come back. When they left after the first day, the panel in the master bedroom was beeping every 20 seconds. It was unbearable. This panel was installed by the rookie tech. Finally we called and spoke with someone over the weekend who told us how to unplug something to make the beeping stop. We still had to wait several days for Vector to send the techs back to finish installing the alarm system. After the second visit, the alarm system was functional but the automatic timers on the exterior lights did not work for several months because we were waiting on timers. Vector told us to order the timers ourselves, which seems odd. Now, several months later we tried to set the alarm and could not turn it on. Turns out the buttons were "sticking" - it just said "the function is not available." Now we are going to have to deal with Vector on this issue on a brand new system. Very dissatisfied. They charge top dollar and for many days when we needed the alarm to be working, it wasn't. Vector didn't seem too pressed to resolve the issues. We called our longtime sales rep in desperation over the weekend I believe, he gave us the name of someone else to call on Monday who was supposedly going to be able to help. That person said to call someone else - we did, and left a message - radio silence. No return call for the entire week. We are still trying to get things sorted out. In summary, after Vector told us we were priority clients, we were not treated as such. Our daughter uses UltraGuard, which is extremely responsive and makes sure issues are dealt with right away. We are very frustrated and don't feel optimistic that Vector will improve going forward. read more

System installed and within first 3 months had multiple false alarms, and in turn was fined by the county over $600. Vector failed to keep scheduled service call to correct the issue causing the false alarms and attempted to dispatch on another false alarm. Customer service representative was extremely unprofessional, rude (continously interrupted) and could see the documented file notes of work order request, along with the request to hold dispatch to avoid additional false alarm fees. Vector is completely unable to install a properly working system nor service as scheduled, but very eager to dispatch for false alarms creating additional cost to the customer. Classless company with incompetent staffing. Would not recommend to anyone for any reason. For your benefit keep searching. read more

I have used Vector security since 2014 (that's 8+ years) and until this year it was fairly steady and reliable. I am not sure what has happened to this company but it is not good. I was pressured by them to get an upgrade to their 3G service as the old one was sunset. I had a sales rep in my home who walked me through the process and then charged me $200 something dollars for the upgrade. This was back in July, it is now the middle of November and still no upgrade and no security. They are happy to charge me the 50 bucks monthly though, no skin off their back. This is by far the most botched roll-out and the customer service has been piss poor (excepting a few really nice folks in customer support who try). If they come to your home to provide you and your family with security....RUN!!!!! read more

What they don't tell you is once you terminate your contract you can use the app because their system isn't sophisticated enough to work on wifi or either they don't want it like that. The sales guy told me he'd get me a NEST only to have this big white junk installed on my wall. Now without the subscription, I cannot control the auto locks, the thermostat, and the camera on the doorbell doesn't work. I wish I could post the video of the trash that was installed on my wall. I am so mad at me for doing this but, if I can help someone else avoid being stuck in a 3 yr contract for no apparent reason then I'll count that as a blessing. read more

I set up this service and never had any issues with the operating of the system. Two years later (end of June) I called to cancel since 1. we haven't been in our office since March due to COVID and 2. our office lease ended and we haven't identified another building since we're still working from home. When I called to cancel I was advised that I had signed a 3 year contract. I had no recollection of this so I asked for a copy of the contract to be sent to me. When I received it I noticed that it was not my signature. I was forwarded to the cancellation department who tried to shift the blame to Pinnacle, the 3rd party reseller of their services. I was told that I had to pay a cancellation fee or transfer the service to our home. First, I would have been open to that had my signature not been forged. Two not really because we were former Vector Security customers at home and had persistent issues with them not monitoring the property, systems always needing a battery and them trying to charge us each time despite having already paid, and most frustrating of all them taking our bill payment via automatic draft but still calling us about past due bills only to self-correct and start the same process the following month. At one point they threatened to send us to collections after they sent two different technicians out to our home to change the battery who never showed up. They continued to charge us for services we were literally unable to use and when they finally sent someone out the 3rd time he didn't even have a battery or know how to fix it. THEY SENT US TO COLLECTIONS and we're still waiting for resolution about this. Needless to say I never received a call back and so when I reached out today I got the same rep-Connie. The first time I spoke to her (June 29) she was very dismissive and borderline confrontational when I told her the signature on the contract wasn't mine. This time she defended her response and kept flippantly saying that she sent an email and that it's still under review. I expressed that I'm still being charged for services and continuing to get entry notifications for our old office. I don't feel I should be charged a penalty to cancel so that I can avoid being charged a monthly fee for service I'm not using. Literally someone else is renting the space now. She then tried to defer me to seeking a magistrate about my concerns of fraud regarding the signature and I promptly redirected her that she is not in a position to offer me legal advice. I asked to speak with a supervisor with whom I left a voicemail and plan to email. Hopefully they will do the right thing and not force me to contact my attorney. This is step 1. I've had my system for 5 weeks and it has malfunctioned the entire time. First the key fob was setting off the alarm and then my glass break detector malfunctioned setting off a series of beep every 30 minutes. They cannot send a technician for almost three weeks! I've had Vector Security since 2003 and I've always been pleased. If I have a problem, which is usually a battery problem, they call me very promptly to get it resolved. They are quick to schedule service calls, which I appreciate. The operation of the system is easy to understand and when I forget, I can ask for and receive a refresher course on how to operate my system. I'm a creature of habit. I like consistency when it comes to homeownership matters. Vector Security provides that level of comfort. Keep doing great work. And they show up Covid-19 protected, which is a must at my compound!! read more

I would give zero stars if I could. We recently purchased a new build home in a CalAtlantic development. Vector was the subcontractor to do electric for anyone who wanted something above the basic package. We had security camera pre-wiring and cat6 internet cable for our wifi. When we started the build, we had a Vector rep who sounded like he knew what he was doing. He was familiar with installing cat6 (it's a stiffer cable so requires different installation techniques than regular cat5/cat5e), was responsive to phone calls and inquiries, understood our concerns and walked us through any issues that came up in the initial design stage. Then he left. And Ronaldo came in. Ronaldo did not answer phone calls. He did not talk with us. And when he first wired our house, he put EVERYTHING in the wrong place because our house was mirrored from the initial design. So instead of using his brain and saying "gee, this room looks backwards from the drawing maybe I should call someone" he just threw the camera pre-wire up in random corners. Then, he left holes the size of a quarter in the drywall and refused to cap the pre-wire because we didn't purchase any of their cameras. So unacceptable. Ronaldo did not know how to do cat6 wire, and when we questioned it he said that he used the correct cable and that was the end of that. He did not listen to our concerns that he'd used metal staples, and since cat6 is much stiffer than cat5e he needed to use plastic guide screws. He blew it off as "I used the right cable and now the drywall is up, so my job is done". He came to the house for the final inspection, and when we asked him to do a test to make sure the cable was putting out the correct power he claimed that he didn't have the instrument to do that. I am beyond pissed off at this company. I'll be calling them tomorrow, and best believe someone is going to come out and fix this. I had a similar experience to Robert P. We purchased a home with an owned alarm system and we tried to sign up for a new monitoring service. Found one we liked, started the setup process and they told us they needed to have the radio released in order to continue. We contacted Vector and asked them to release the radio. After several calls and a lot of time on the phone Vector told me that because they purchased our house's old account from another monitoring service they couldn't release our radio. They claimed they had no information on us in their records at all. After some more back and forth I decided to just replace the radio unit on the alarm. It cost about $200 and I wasn't thrilled that Vector's incompetence cost me that money, but we figured that would be the end of it. Unfortunately it didn't end there. To set up the new radio we needed the installer code for the alarm, and the only people who had that were Vector. I called them again and they flat out refused to give me the code. They claimed that giving out the code would grant me access to all sorts of people's alarms. This is nonsense though because our unit's code was changed away from the default so it is unique to our alarm. They offered to send a technician out to our house for a fee to change the code, but I am not paying them more money just so that they stop holding our alarm system hostage. read more

If I could give ZERO stars I would! When my husband an I first signed up, the representative who came to our home walked us through the installation process and talked us through the contract. When we told him that we didn't want anything longer than a 2 year contract due to the fact my husband was about to retire from the military and we were planning to move afterwards, he said that was fine and he would enroll us in a 2 year contract and we could cancel anytime with him being military. When we asked for a copy of the contract to review, he said we would get a hard copy in the mail... ALL OF WHICH WERE LIES! Two years pass, and I call our local branch to cancel our service. After waiting on hold for almost an hour to get ahold of someone, I finally explained to the representative on the phone that we want to cancel because the service is unreliable, and our cameras (doorbell and backyard camera) never work when we actually need them to. Additionally, whenever there is a weather warning (ie tornado, flood, etc.) the alarm will go off as if someone has broken into our house (a feature that cannot be disabled). The representative informed me that we were enrolled into a 5 YEAR contract and that they never even offered 2 year contracts. He then went on to say if we wanted to cancel we will owe 2k in cancelation fees to pay off the remainder of the contract my husband an I never agreed to in the first place! He then said he would mail us our contract and to have a nice day... he didn't even offer to send anyone out to at least take a look at our equipment since it is always having problems. Long story short, my husband an I are now stuck for an extra 3 years in a contract we never agreed to with a service that doesn't work... unless there's a tornado warning, then your house will ring so loud the whole neighborhood can hear it.
