I'll caveat this review by saying we'd just returned from a guided tour of Pisa and despite nearing the lunch closing time, the host welcomed and seated us but did warn us that the kitchen was about to close. So we quickly made our selection of still water, a pizza margherita, a pizza with sausage and a bowl of gnocchi with pesto.
The waitress spoke very little English but she was pleasant and brought wine for Romeo. Our meals arrived surprisingly fast, which later explained why the kiddo's pizza margherita was soupy in the middle. She essentially ate the middle third concentric circle of the pizza since both pizza soup and crust handles are not part of her preferred diet.
Romeo ate his pizza because he was hungry but remarked that he didn't really like the sausage. I found this weird since he eats sausage at home quite a bit. But I wondered after the fact whether it was fatty for lack of an extended cooking time that would have crisped it. His pizza was likely soupy in the middle.
In the other hand, my bowl of gnocchi was absolutely delicious! The gnocchi was cooked perfectly and was light and palatable (no pasta bullets sitting in my belly like a hunk of lead). The green pesto was fresh and fragrant. I loved my lunch so much. I felt bad that my family didn't like their pizzas.
Alas, we knew when we walked in that it may not be a great experience. A chef who's closing his/her kitchen is more focused on the afternoon than the food. Based on my pasta, I'd try this place again perhaps mid-lunch or for a late evening dinner. It was clean, cool and a nice place to relax after exploring for most of the morning. read more
