Hands down, THE best meal we had in Portugal. If you were only able to eat at one restaurant in Lisbon, this is it. This is the first restaurant I've even eaten at where I wanted to go shake the hand of the chef afterwords and congratulate her on her magical creations. At the risk of sounding like a food snob, each plate was so inventive and the flavors played together in an extraordinary way.
There are no words to describe how incredible this food was. Not to sound dramatic, but we couldn't help but exclaim, "mmmm" or "OMG" or "whoa" after every bite. We ordered...
- Slow cooked egg, mushrooms cream €7
- Marinated shrimps, aguachile, white strawberries €8
- Octopus, moong beans, orange €9
- Skipjack tuna, tempura, sauteed chard
Between the two of us, we ordered the small plates above (plus an additional small plate?), a bottle of wine, and that filled us up.
How to find this gem:
Follow the directions on GoogleMaps as best you can, and don't give up- I promise it's worth it! It's on somewhat of an alley behind a busier street, if that helps at all. It's a small restaurant, and the front entrance is not very flashy, so it's easy to miss.
Reservations:
The restaurant is a bit tiny (maybe 8 tables), so be sure to make a reservation ahead of time. We made reservations through Trip Advisor's "Yelp" page for the restaurant: https://www.thefork.com/restaurant/vdb-bistronomie-r540521 read more
