Definitely good portion to value. The chicken was very nice seasoned. The spicy feta chicken wrap hit the name, loaded with chicken, and very spicy! A good spicy! The food is DELICIOUS! The place is to go but they do have a couple tables there if it's slow and you wish to dine in, but it's mostly to go. I ordered a Gyro Wrap and the gyro meat was outstanding! The pita was nice and soft and it was loaded with lettuce and tzatziki dressing. The poutine was fantastic as well. They used a lot of gravy and poured it on all over rather than just on the top. The artwork and murals inside are super cool. They did a great job with the murals. This place was really cool and really fast. I decided to grab lunch at Vasilis today. I'd never been, but had seen their flashy front window and had meant to visit for a while. Finding myself driving by around 1pm I went for it. The first thing I noticed was the lack of traffic. There was a party of three enjoying salads, but they were the only customers I saw during my 10-15 minute wait for my order. The girl at the counter was coloring in a coloring book for lack of other work. She'd apparently already prepped and stocked everything needed. So how was the food? I went with a gyro wrap and fries to go. The fries were of the battered sort and pretty good. The wrap was mediocre at best. It was almost completely lettuce. The tzatziki sauce had no flavor and was basically plain yogurt. When combined with a shortage of onion and tomato it was basically just a lettuce wrap and a bit of meat. I like my gyros to have a bit of a bite. A delicious treat that results in your inability to talk to anyone for a few hours because it's given you some kicking breath! This fell very short. In addition, the wrap itself was more like the brittle crusty outer surface of a good sub roll hollowed out. It broke apart instantly and made eating a messy ordeal. Thankfully all I spilled was a bunch of lettuce... So why go to Vasilis? The answer is instantly apparent as you walk in. You'll quickly notice a wall of dollar bills with the letters of Greek houses from nearby Buffalo State University. This is late night food conveniently located. It's not good, but it's in stumbling distance of numerous bars. I say leave this one to the college kids. Elmwood has numerous other restaurants offering better Greek food for dine in or carry out. read more

Ordered fish fry for takeout because I was in the neighborhood and had a craving, was sorely disappointed. Should have stayed with my usual place! The fish has skin on and then it's battered, creating an unappealing grayish color and slimy coating on the inside of the otherwise relatively decent batter. The order was missing a lemon wedge, tartar sauce, coleslaw and the mac salad...basically everything the meal is supposed to come with. I didn't discover this until I got home and only found soggy fries and a dry piece of gray-colored fish. I doubt I'll give this place another shot based on my first encounter here. read more

Vasilis Express runs right in the middle for me - it's a place to grab a quick bite to eat but it's neither exceptionally inexpensive nor is it wonderfully tasty. But, again, that's partially because I'm a vegetarian and so I can't actually eat most of the menu. Spanikopita is a basic, but well done staple. That's usually what I get when I go there. It's basically the same price as other places in the area - so you could go anywhere and get the same thing. But, if you don't want pretentiousness, then this is a fine place to stop. A warning, but a good one - when you get french fries it is a huuuuuge order. Like, a whole container. You can definitely split this order with others. This was honestly my favorite place to eat when I use to attend Buff State. It was one of the places that stayed open late and actually served delicious food! I generally stuck to ordering a few things so I can't speak for everything on the menu. Cant go wrong with a bacon, egg and cheese on a bagel with fries, bbq tenders with fries, hot dogs with chili and poutine fries and I heard the gyros are good too. This is a great location - formerly it was Captain Jack's Fish and Chips. For some reason I never wanted to go in there. It smelled like a grease factory. Once Vasilis Express opened, I noticed front and center on the menu a picture of their Pita Gyro. A soft thick pita filled with gyro meat, tzatziki, and french fries. French fries in the Pita Gyro?! I remember the first time I had a mega schwarma wrap in Bahrain with french fries packed inside. Come to papa. I was going back for more. Needless to say I was delighted to see that mega schwarma somewhat replicated here in the form of the Pita Gyro. Try it out - I don't think you'll be disappointed. For what this place is - it excels at what it does. It's located on the way to and from Mr. Goodbar and Cole's. It deserves some credit for supplying a tasty gut bomb that at least feels healthier than the Jefferson Steak Hoagie I would get at Jim's Steakout. I actually feel pretty great afterwards. I tend to rate places on how well they excel at what they should be. This place does a pretty dang good job. They haven't closed down yet like 'ol Captain Jack's and there's a reason for that. read more

We live just a few blocks away and discovered Vasilis when we were doing our kitchen remodel and needed food (a few times a week for a few weeks) that was quick but not profoundly unhealthy. This did the trick. The menu has diverse offerings--from wraps, to salads, to a fish fry (and a good one, according to my pretty picky husband--and plenty of VEGETARIAN choices that are ready to go in a flash. Crispy fries, hummus appetizers, rice pudding, and all the other things you expect to find at a Greek restaurant are also on the menu. You can even call ahead. The prices are reasonable; not as cheap as Burger King, but less than a "sit down" Greek restaurant. If there's one complaint I would offer, it's about the use of styrofoam containers. Something more environmentally friendly would be wonderful--and would get me through the door more often. read more

Always enjoyed the food here, but someone new must be cooking. Had the cheeseburger like I always do and there was no cheese. Then I got home put my own cheese on, took a bite and it tasted funny. I took a bite of just the beef and it still tasted shady. I'm not saying it was turned but it didn't taste right, so I threw it away. They used to have these thick very crispy fries and now they have unseasoned shoe string fries. Not a single fry was longer than 2 inches. "Express" is a great word to describe this restaurant. Since my visits here have been very short and to the point, my review will be, too. The food here is perfectly serviceable. It's not the best Greek food I've ever had, but when I'm in a hurry, it's filling, flavorful, and cheap. The brief encounters I have had with the staff have been overwhelmingly positive. The staff is always friendly, ringing up my low-cost food with a smile. Basically, don't bring a date here (unless you want to scare them off) and don't expect an authentic Greek meal. It's painfully obvious that Vasillis couldn't care less about being a proper restaurant and hope only to capitalize on the indiscriminate student appetite. Their house speciality is the worst Gyro I have ever had. Even ordering it felt surreal. How does the cashier of a Greek restaurant not know how to properly pronounce Gyro? Usually when I eat here the service is beautiful!. But today... girl no. The girl that answered our phone call supposedly ordered our food but didn't. so instead of waiting 25 minutes we had to wait an hour and a half and be served after everyone waiting . I have been going to Vasili's for years as it is at the corner of my street and it used to be really good. Lately the quality has slipped and for the price it isn't worth it. I paid $21 for two chicken souvlaki salads. It was made with half wilted iceberg lettuce and tomatoes that look like they were prepped 3-4 days ago. Not fresh. On top of that I got it for take out and they forgot the dressing. So, now we have two gross dry salads. I called for a refund and the girl was nice who answered the phone and she asked the manager who was in the kitchen what to do. His solution to the problem was exactly this "we don't give refunds, but take his name down and we'll give him extra dressing next time." What am I going to do with double dressing next time?
