As we got closer the map had all water, hehe. What a nice spontaneous surprise, we decided to do take the Fauntleroy Ferry to Vashon Island. ( will do a review the Ferry after). Who doesn't love the Ferry?! After we got to Vashon Island, it was about a 20 min scenic drive to Point Robinson Park, So happy we are here! Keep in mind the park gates closes at dawn, I was worried about being stuck there and we arrive close to dawn. Plenty parking, very nice park with lighthouse, beach, trails and picnic area. First things first, lets look for the troll, which his name is Oscar the bird king, made by Thomas Dambo. Thomas Dambo is an artist based in Denmark, Thomas makes sculptures out of recycled materials. This sculpture is part of series of six site specific installations called Northwest trolls. I need to find the other 4 during my future visits to PNW. Wow, super cool to see and visit Oscar the troll in real life, a little scary but so interesting. Thomas is super creative and got skills. Oscar is huge in real life, hehe. We took our photos, observed the artistic skills, greeted him with Shaka, then after that we went to explore the rest of Robinson Park. Trail, beach and we finally got to the lighthouse, another reason to visit. There's a lighthouse tour during mid May-September, which I would love to learn more about. All in all, What a great day to make it a great day here, trolling Point Robinson Park, LOVED every moment!

The trails were muddy this time of year so wear better footwear than I did. The beach by the lighthouse was lovely. There are lighthouse tours Sundays from 12pm to 4pm. Lots of benches surround the lighthouse to take in the ocean. It's crazy to think a huge city is just across the water from this beautiful small island.

While the camp has a limit to the number of participants at any given gathering (200?), it felt like it was spacious enough to accommodate so many more! Cabins are available with twin-sized beds, and a shared shower cabin for use by campers. Tent space is also made available for those wishing to rough it during their stays. A small office and library can be found onsite, as well as a playground, fields for play and sport, a Good Times Cabin for games and toys, and more. A short hike down will get you to the waterfront where kayak/canoe rentals are included in your camp activity fee. Several spaces are available as classrooms and conferencing areas for meetings during your stay. Not to mention a meeting hall (Grisham) and dining hall (Burton Lodge). The food is plentiful and very much associated with camp and comfort: baked potatoes, taco bar, make-your-own sandwiches, pasta, salads, grilled cheese sandwiches, mini pizzas, shredded pork sliders, etc. But options also exists for varying dietary restrictions including vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free, gluten-free. So let them know before you arrive! Staff were friendly and efficient, and the camp seemed to run smoothly.

When we showed up to the campsite, no one was there. We tried to contact the owner by phone, email, and text message with no response. Since we agreed upon the date, we set up our tent, called an Uber (the only reason we picked this place was for the shuttle service) and headed to the show. 4 hours passed still with a response. Had to walk back from the venue (Their site says its only 2 miles away but its actually double that) and when we arrived back to the campsite, we were welcomed by a guy shouting (I'm assuming it was the owner) that he was going to shoot us and the campsite was closed. Between all the emails, text messages. and phone call attempts, we were never told that the campsite was closed. The other group of people we ran into were also never told the campsite was closed. Stay away!

We were there for a Journey/Steve Miller concert at the white river amphitheatre, and were waiting for the shuttle graciously provided by the owners for a small fee, when my wife had to go back to the site for something she forgot. We came back to find out we just missed the shuttle. Ric, the owner, happened to be walking by and he offered to run us down in his car. I thought this was a great service to offer after the hard work he had done that day, getting everyone registered and settled in as they were all there for the show too. This place is brand new and Ric and Rebecca will be improving it more and more each year but for a new business they have won our hearts and we will be back for future concerts. I would love to keep this a hidden secret but I promised Ric to share with the world on YELP for everyone to enjoy. We will return!!!!

The boys were dramatic about it, but I thought, "this is an easy/cheap fix." That said, if it's a stormy night, prepare yourself for spotty sleep (especially on the 2" foam pads). PRO TIP: double up the pads if you can. Also, there was no cycle on the heater (just on/off) and it ran all night. I woke up in the middle of the night with my mouth/tongue severely dried out like I was lost/adrift at sea. Kids did enjoy the activities - I think archery won the day(s). Fire-starting was also a hit. The camp guides did a pretty decent job incorporating learning and doing their best to keep kids engaged. Their personalities were spirited/fun and I especially enjoyed their effort with skit night (some drama majors I think). Overall the meals could be improved, some basic cabin upgrades, and perhaps a new Director (ponytailed milk toast dude who had a kind of, "don't have time for you" vibe).

We arrived at 1:00 PM and found the last parking space available at the end of the furthest parking lot area. We walked to the other side where they had a stage where they were having some dancing, live music and speeches. In addition, there were accessories, and clothing/apparel vendors who were lined up on the other side. First part of the Review is for the Cambodian event, which was a 4 out of 5. ------ The Park itself was easy to navigate around. Parking seemed self-explanatory, even though it was fully packed. There were clear signs of what was required of the State Park. You had to enter with a Discovery Pass or a National Park Pass at the Gate/Entrance. Walked around the beach area until the end of the trail where they had Private Property. Took some pictures and scenic videos of the water and scintillating viewpoints. It was a pretty short stroll after eating our lunch. But overall an enjoyable experience. Would like to visit again even without an event going on... Review of the Park - 4 out of 5.
