We hopped off the cruise ship, parked our luggage and went exploring ending our day on the tall ship of Seattle. We loved everything about this experience. First, easy to book on Viator. Second, so convenient in location. Third, the service was unmatched. We also bought drinks ahead of time on the website AND in person. We had such a good time. I will say the bathroom is a *marine head*. So, you don't flush anything that does not come out of your body. It goes in the trash. That is sooo typical of most sail boats- but people doing their first trip out on the water may not understand that. Go potty before you get on! (How not to run a business) I booked a tour weeks in advance, as part of a day trip to Seattle. At my hotel the night before my tour was scheduled, they emailed me that they were cancelling my reservation because they got a last-minute invitation to join a boat parade. I had to rearrange my entire schedule for the day. Neither of their suggestions of an exchange, for a sunset sail that evening or another time on Sunday, were possible. read more

I can't fairly give Seattle's Tall Ship less than 5 stars, because the crew members were all super sweet, the captain was informative, friendly, and funny, the boat was beautiful, and the views were even more beautiful. My complaints, and how disappointed I felt with this experience, are mostly not the fault of the boat, the captain, or the crew. The boat is large (and tall!). I guess I just hadn't realized that there would be about 70 - 80 people on the sailboat. I understand from their perspective how they'd certainly want to get as many people on board as possible. However, even for a large sailboat (and a sailboat that I believe had the capacity for this many passengers, and I think everyone had a seat who wanted one), this is a lot of people to cram on to a sailboat, IMO. I felt a little bit like a sardine in a can, and/or I felt like I was traveling on public transportation that happened to be on the water. One of my closest friends who formerly lived in Seattle for over 10 years, Ashley, is a world class sailor. (Ashley moved to Austria a few years ago, to be with her new husband.) Ashley ran the Pink Boat Regatta (America Sails for Breast Cancer Research) for several years, and I contributed to that, and I attended the fundraiser, the sail boat races, and/or the sailor party almost every year that Ashley ran this (when my health allowed). I miss going sailing with Ashley and her friends (we went sailing at other, non-Regatta times of the year), so my partner kindly thought I'd enjoy this sail to celebrate my Birthday. I thought I would, too, so I thankfully accepted this. There was a loud crying baby near us, and I have sensitive hearing. I also have a sensitive sense of smell (really all of my senses are quite a bit more sensitive than average). The baby didn't cry for the entire sail, but it definitely interfered with the peaceful vibe of the sail a bit. I wasn't able to have children, due to medical reasons, so I'm probably less understanding of things like this than Mothers and Fathers (or Grandmothers and Grandfathers) would be. My overall life doesn't include kids very often, it doesn't need to. I get along pretty well with kids when I must, but being around kids isn't something that I seek out. So this is something that I am not personally used to. We had to move our legs several times when we were seated and when people squeezed by us to move around the sailboat. Everyone in the crowd that we spoke to was very nice. I felt terrible and I felt like I was not being appreciative enough of what in many ways was a very nice experience, and I did my best to adjust my attitude, which certainly needed adjusting. After this experience, I personally would not go out in a sailboat again with more than 12 people on it. The drinks offerings on the boat were quite good, but I didn't feel like a drink last night. The snack offerings were mostly Cheetos and Doritoes. It was nice to see the sunset on the water. We had an up-close view of one of Seattle's ferries, a huge container ship (?), and a lovely sunset over the water. The city views, and the view of Mount Rainier, were quite nice. The ship captain was very considerate of people's hearing and he warned us to cover our ears when the ship fired a tiny little cannon. Cute. He also asked if anyone was celebrating a special event such as a Birthday, so I did raise my hand, and many people in the crowd cheered for my Birthday. That was nice. Thankfully he didn't ask my age. I don't mind saying that I am in my 40s, but I am kind of weird about giving out my exact age. I think someone was also celebrating a recent graduation, so the crowd cheered for the recent graduate, too. One of my favorite parts of the evening was after the sail was over and everyone had left the marina/dock except for my partner and I, and my partner and I appreciated the last vestiges of the sunset fading away behind the faraway hills. I am writing this review because there may be other people out there who might feel similarly to how I felt, and those people might want to know some of this information in advance. However, this sail would probably be a nice experience for many people, and most people on our particular sail seemed to be enjoying themselves, too. I was personally underwhelmed by this experience, but many people probably didn't (or haven't, or wouldn't) share my sentiments. So, I hope people reading my review will read the other (more positive) reviews for Seattle Tall Ship, and make an informed decision based on all of the reviews here, not just mine. read more

I was pulled into this by my Daughter and wife. I was not thrilled with the idea of being packed on a sailboat with 64 other people. But I'm happy to report I was wrong. The crew was a lot of fun and entertaining. The silence when the diesel was turned off and we went to wind power was almost magical. Ten stars wouldn't be enough for our experience on the Sunset Cruise the evening of July 9. The sky was clear, Mt Rainier protected us, Puget Sound was in its glory, and the skyline of Seattle and the harbor is more impressive from the water than anyone can imagine. If you are "from" Seattle, (you know who you are) and haven't sailed Puget Sound, I recommend an evening on Seattle's Tall Ship. The breeze was warm and gentle, the captain and crew experienced and enjoy the guests and their responsibility. Anthony, a captain from Boston Liberty and the Bahamas, Madison from Tennessee and Nick from somewhere (!) were just lovely. Madison brought extra ice on board for me, Anthony is proud to work for Commodore Noah W. and Nick sprang into action to lower the sails. I was very happy to tip them for their welcome and efforts. I expected a smaller ship, with fewer seats and fewer guests. But the 85' ketch (two masts), with a very large well in the center handily carried 59 guests (Maximum 65 guests) without feeling crowded. The crew added a lot to the evening bantered about their sailing experience, were charming with a Disney-lite graciousness. If you wanted to hoist the sails you were welcome. My cousins, lifelong Seattle residents, had never been on a Sunset Cruise in the harbor of their own city, and enjoyed it as much as I. This is why I suggest all those "from" Seattle take an evening off, bring out of town guests and enjoy our beautiful city. I might even buy a multi-pack of tickets if it were available. One suggestion: survey your guests and know how many are from the Seattle area, and how many are visitors. How many have never been on the Puget Sound, including ferry crossings to Bainbridge Island. Then share some of the history and economic activity of Seattle and the harbor. It's super impressive. Don't be history teachers, or tour guides, but a nod to the city and its place in the world is not out of place. Can't wait to sail again. Thank you for making this possible. read more

My girlfriend and I had such a great experience with this tour. It was an experience I won't soon forget. If you're looking for a unique way to see the city, this is it. Now, the ship - it's this awesome old-school tall ship with these massive sails. But here's the best part: the crew gets you involved. I'm talking about helping with the sails and learning some sailor stuff. It's super chill, no pressure, but totally adds to the whole adventure. We had a really nice summer evening on Seattle Tall Ship. We bought tickets for the sunset tour online and had to move them to a later date, which I did via text in accordance with their instructions. Easy. On the new day, we arrived early at the terminal and were ushered over to a waiting area on the pier. We received a quick safety brief, boarded and were underway quickly. Know that seating is first come first served so if you're early in line you'll get a better choice. Once you settle in to your seat it's kind of a free for all, and I imagine most of their tours sell out like ours did, so every seat will be taken. They offer drinks for purchase (it was a little ambiguous if this was included, it's not) and we enjoyed the casual narration throughout the tour of Elliott Bay. You can help lift the sails if you want. They fired off a little toy cannon at one point (cheesy) but otherwise the tour was largely devoid of any touristy chintz. Overall it was a good money for value experience, a great tourist event within easy walking distance of downtown, would make a good date or good for out of town guests. We'd come back for the last reason for sure. read more
