Good Day Yelpers!!!…read more It's been a while since I last posted a review, and I figured a good way to get back to it was a post of a cigar lounge. Cigar lounges are popping up everywhere around the Tidewater area, and last week, I came across Magoos Cigar Lounge (established in 2021). Sitting at the corner of Main and Atlantic St in downtown Norfolk. Across the street, the Marriot Hotel and the Hilton are nearby, so the location is perfect for visitors. This cigar lounge is very roomy, with plenty of cozy seating spread out around the pound. Magoos have four TV monitors, mostly for sporting events and the news, and all seating is in good view of them. Plenty of stylish ashtrays are available, as are some really lovely coffee and end tables. Membership is available, and it comes with a locker. The exhaust system is top-notch, allowing for smoke to vent clearing, making for a good experience. The humidor is stocked with various premium cigars but is on the small side. I brought a nub there, and it burned a little slow, leading me to believe that the humidity was a little high in the humidor. I recommend buying any cigars there, letting them sit in your own humidor, and bringing something from home. I also thought the price was a little expensive, but there are some good smokes in there Water, coffee, energy drinks, and soda are also available. Cigar accessories, prep stations, and a pool table add a nice touch. The vibe is relaxed, and plenty of windows allow for a nice view. Open 11 am to 8 pm Monday through Thursday, 10 pm Friday and Saturday, and 6 pm Sunday. These hours can be flexible depending on special events. What does it for me here is the location and space A nice place, and I will be back. Happy Yelping.

Varia and the entire Hilton - The Main is EXACTLY what Norfolk needed to get different audiences in one place. In particular, Varia impressed me with the Breakfast and Lunch buffet, because I work near by. Its less than 15 bucks for lunch and FAST! The Wine Studio though within whats called the Wolf Lounge - not sure the connection - but its the bar area of the Italian restaurant - seat YOURSELF! Amazing furniture and views from what seems to be each table - but about the wine studio - we have a wine card and it was $100 for $200 on the card while our friends were out of town and paid $35 for a $50 card. After the purchase which I think the process could be improved because it seemed like forever we waited for a manager because the wine studio rep was busy changing bottles for other guests - according to an employee that helped us. Once we were given our card which the Manager Terri hand delivered (nice touch) we made our way to the studio which had 5 machines with 4-8 wine bottles in each. Even tasting!! Shaun helped us at the bar, and what a personality he had! My boyfriend has bartended for years and he said he was "pleasantly surprised" by how interactive Shaun was with our group of 5 that particular night because he said the "well looked weeded" and he continued to sling drinks and manage us at the bar. Maybe the other bartender was busy but after my boyfriend explained the process to me, I think the guests would highly benefit from having an assistant of some kind either helping with drinks or delivering them to the table. Many servers wore a smile collecting their beverages, however I was slightly bothered by a few that I did not see their name, complaining about guests directly next to me. I even said something to one of them...sorry, but I couldn't help myself. Towards the end of happy hour and our many trips to the wine studio we decided to grab a seat behind Kristine/Christine - pretty sure thats where self seating starts - or it did that night for us! hehe We would have stayed at the bar but it was busy and Shaun was helping some others in the restaurant near the pizza man, so our entertainment was limited and we were a chatty group. We could still hear the music and see the live band - singer, piano player and drums!! The waitress was also impressive... I heard her speaking to others around me, on a personal level or what seem to be guests that frequented Varia, one of them actually showed me how to work one of the machines. Better yet, told me it was our of order. That irked me because one of my friends really didn't drink and only bought the card for one bottle in particular. I expressed this to our server Amber and within a few moments she had Bethany the somellier come to the area we were sitting and what a pleasure they both were. Bethany tried her very best to explain the situation but I was still unhappy, and would have said something prior to purchase if their was a more visible sign on the machine when walking by. Nonetheless Bethany and Terri made us feel important and seemed to be genuinely listening . we ordered 7 Tapas for $35 (always 5 bucks Each) - We ordered 2 of the Fried Burrata Cheese , 1 spinach, 1 meat, 2 risotto, and the Sausage shroom (gluten free) tapas suggested by Amber. I loved the risotto tapas. We decided to do dessert after the waitress opened the Dessert menus and left 2 staring at us - again nice touch - we committed to the Nutella dessert simply by the name. CRACK PIE. and the Almond cake which was gluten free. Amber said this dessert menu had recently been launched and was able to answer the gluten questions from my girlfriend without leaving the table. That girl is HILARIOUS highly recommend seeing her in the Wolf Lounge and Shaun at the bar. The food was super fast and very high quality for $5 tapas! The Crack Pie? Do it. Maybe twice. Almond Cake? Girlfriend says excellent. I'll tell you what our group loved the most - and that was the joy we saw in almost everyone we came across. Overall this restaurant earned 5 stars because of the customer service we received directly from Amber, Terry, Bethany, Amber and Kristine. Above par customer dedication and personalities to match, I don't care what your serving or how the building looks, people come back for exceeding expectations important to them and it was SERVICE for us. Lots of restaurants offer great food, no argument, but having the service we did is hard to find.. After the check was given, Amber suggested sharing our experience online. So here I am, the writer in the group...until next time...c u soon read more

Okay I was a little skeptical this place would be overrated, but it was not at all!! We were seated right away on a Saturday night, but it was later in the evening. The place is really cozy and really feels like one big dining room in a really expensive house with a bar. The reason I say that is because you feel right at home with the colors and decor that welcomes a sense of intimacy unmatched in most Now let's talk about the most important thing, the food. The meal was simply amazing I like the texture of everything I tasted as it was fresh and appeasing to my palate. My favorite besides the cheese board ,because I am addicted to cheese, was the gnocchi. t was cooked perfectly to give it a balance of just the right taste without being too overwhelming. The sauce from the pasta which I took a bite from my wifes plate was amazing and tasted homemade instead of out of a can. watching the pasta being hand made chefs in the kitchen was nice knowing that it was being made fresh and not from a bag. Nice music great service all around we will be back when We come back in town . Hopefully to try new things read more

I had an outstanding experience at the Varia last weekend. Our waiter Jake was not only very attentive but knew exactly what to recommend on the menu. The food arrived in a timely fashion and was pleasing to the eye and delicious. The portions were generous so I needed a doggy bag. Another fine restaurant from Bruce Thommason! Friendly, attentive service without being overbearing is always appreciated, and she struck that balance perfectly. My wife ordered the Red Curry Bowl with blackened chicken, baby bok choy, radishes, carrots, green onions, cilantro, and rice noodles in a rich red curry coconut broth. This dish was both aesthetically pleasing and delicious. The vegetables were fresh, the broth was flavorful without being overpowering, and the generous portion made for a hearty meal. In fact, there was simply too much to finish, which is rarely something to complain about. She thoroughly enjoyed it. I chose The Richmond, a fried chicken sandwich topped with pimento cheese, bacon, jalapeños, Mike's Hot Honey, spicy aioli, lettuce, and tomato on a potato bun, served with fresh-cut fries. The chicken itself was excellent, and the fries were crispy, fresh, and plentiful. Where the sandwich lost me was in its identity. There was so much happening between the pimento cheese, spicy aioli, bacon, jalapeños, and hot honey that each ingredient seemed to compete with the others rather than complement them. Somewhere along the way, it crossed the Rubicon from a Nashville hot chicken sandwich into something entirely different. That's not necessarily a bad thing. It simply wasn't for me. I finished it, and I certainly didn't dislike it, but I wouldn't order it again. Sometimes restraint is the better part of culinary creativity, and I think this sandwich would benefit from letting one or two of its ingredients take center stage instead of asking them all to share the spotlight. Overall, we enjoyed our visit. Good food, generous portions, excellent service, and a relaxed atmosphere make Craft on Colley a place we'll happily return to. We understood, but funny enough, there were two (yes, two) ladies sitting at a nearby table with a booth! Insert side eye lol! We started with drinks and appetizers. The drinks were okay but not very strong. We ordered the CrabMac and the Lobster Egg Rolls. The CrabMac was good but the Egg Rolls seemed to miss the mark a bit, for me. I think they would've been better without the cheese. For our entrees, my friend ordered the Salmon and I ordered the Braised Short Ribs. My friend said her Salmon was okay but I wasn't a fan of the Short Ribs. They were covered with a very interesting, bbq sauce that I didn't quite enjoy. I've ordered Short Ribs before but I've never had them with such a thick, bbq sauce. The Mashed Potatoes were garlicky and very tasty and the Sautéed Spinach was so good, I ordered another side of it. Once we finished eating, we asked for the check and my bill came up to $91.80! I just knew they had given me the wrong bill lol! They automatically added 15% Gratuity on the bill without our knowledge. Our server was great so I was going to tip either way, it just would've been nice to be notified ahead of time. Unfortunately, there wasn't anything I ate that would justify spending that much lol! The staff were very nice but I'm sure I won't be returning again. By the way, no one ever came to sit at the table with the booth, so we definitely could've sat there. SMH!

That was so thoughtful!) My son and hubby shared a sausage mushroom pizza, slighty spicy thin crust pizza with a nice texture and fair price. I enjoyed a wonderful Pollo alla Sorrentina with spinach, eggplant, prosciutto, tomato sauce, white wine. With a side salad. Lovely wine. We returned to hang at the bar for drinks and dessert. There was an amazing entertainer with piano and violin. It made the time extra special! Highly recommend and would love to return on our next visit to VA beach.
