Elevator has broken down multiple times. I live on the fifth floor and I've had to use the stairs while high risk pregnant and a toddler. They shut off the water very often and if you get a notification about it, it's pretty rare and on top of that when they do turn the water back on, the hot water comes out white as milk for weeks. There's roaches and flies everywhere and even more in the parking garage. The restaurant downstairs makes the garage feel like hot diaper trash and the air just feels thick and gross. Plus there's been multiple car break ins, I don't know what the point of the cameras are if they don't catch anything. Maintenance is really bad at fixing things or getting back to you. Our AC has been down for about a week and I've had no updates. I'm pregnant and have a toddler and we've really been suffering in this heat wave since the apartment doesn't have any air flow due to a tiny window. I wouldn't wish this place on my worst enemy. Just stepping outside smells of poop covered walls and fermented urine. 0/10 place. Oh and don't bother even calling their number, they'll never pick up or call you back. I'm not even sure how people have moved into this building since they don't pick up the phone...

The building engineer David, might be the most helpful engineer I've come across in years. The location is great if you're looking for nightlife. Plenty of restaurants, bars, pubs, and stores that are all in walking distance. The area itself can attract a more rowdy crowd on the weekends, so be prepared to hear some music, loud conversations, and all around noise that a major urban downtown area will attract.

Even after moving out on June 25, I was incorrectly charged a full month's rent for July, renters insurance, pet-related fees, and then a late fee was added on top of those incorrect charges. I had to repeatedly call and email to try to get my account corrected. One of the most frustrating aspects was dealing with the Property Manager, **Suzy Reyes**. Phone calls were never returned, concerns were not addressed, and I never felt that management genuinely cared about resolving resident issues. Communication was consistently poor throughout my tenancy. The property itself has numerous problems: * Excessive monthly water charges that seemed unreasonably high. * Residents are charged separately for pest control, yet I experienced a mouse infestation while living there. * The trash area was frequently overflowing and unsanitary. * Hallways and elevators were often dirty and poorly maintained. * The apartment windows were old, worn out, and in need of replacement. I was even charged a $75 late fee despite being enrolled in AutoPay. I had to prove that AutoPay had been set up before the charge was finally removed. Residents should not have to spend their time correcting management's billing mistakes. After I moved out, I was also charged for cleaning, painting, and carpet cleaning, even though I thoroughly cleaned the apartment before turning in my keys. I left the unit in good condition and was surprised by these additional charges. Overall, this property charges premium rent while providing substandard maintenance and customer service. My experience left me feeling that resident concerns were simply not a priority. I cannot recommend living here and would encourage prospective renters to carefully research this property before signing a lease.

Island Inn is a hotel/low income housing/micro apartment…read more My husband and I lived here for a year and seven months. We moved out on 8/4/19. I don't know how anyone could give Island Inn 5 stars. One of the reviews is from someone who stayed for a very short time and a couple are from 3 years ago and 7 years. Maybe things have just worsened in that time. The good: Most of the employees are helpful and nice. Tina and Cesar are awesome! About half of the tenants are nice, polite, good people. The units are relatively cheap. We were paying $245/week. *The costs and inconveniences far outweigh the cheap rent. Everything else: Elevators: One of the elevators is out of service about once a week and it's usually the only one that goes to the garage. There is only one elevator that goes to the garage. Tenants play this stupid game where if that elevator is going up and it stops on their floor they won't get on it until it's going down....even though they have to get on it at some point anyway. It's wastes everyone's time. It's why it sometimes takes forever to get an elevator. Tenants: Half the tenants in the building have no concept of manners. If you are waiting on the front desk person, they will just go to the side of the desk and ask to get their request in first. Some will also, get on the elevator before anyone can get off. People have played loud music on the patio, left the patio door open where bugs can get in, and left their trash in the hallway. The Laundry Room: In order to do your laundry, you have to buy a laundry card and load it with cash. I've had the machine eat my cash and have used it on unknowingly broken machines. A couple of the driers wouldn't dry the clothes even after two dry cycles. Someone stole our laundry even though there are cameras in the laundry room and I was never able get it back or even find out who took it. Tracking down the manager after this and trying to get them to go through footage to find the person took forever. Even after "checking" the footage, apparently they couldn't find out who it was. After this situation, I had to watch my laundry. So, I took my laptop and sat at the table. I had a verbally abusive old woman try to bully me out of my seat and when I refused to give it up she verbally harassed me until her laundry was done. Parking: Parking is expensive at $42/week. The spots are really small and they allow cars to park with a motorcycle behind them. It's already very difficult to park. I've been scolded a few times by a maintenance guy for "driving too fast" and going to wrong way. Unfortunately, parking in some of the spots requires going the wrong way and even backing in. Electricity: I couldn't use my stovetop cooker and my microwave at the same time or the electricity would go out. Internet: The apartment "comes with" internet and cable, but our unit didn't get a great signal and we had to spring for paid internet. Mini fridge: The mini fridge doesn't keep food like a normal fridge does. My food was spoiling in about 4-5 days. In order for you to keep anything frozen, you have to crank the freezer up almost all the way, but then you'll find your freezer items get freezer burnt very quickly. Pest Control: Plan on having to leave your apartment for a couple hours and taking your animal with you once a month midweek midday for pest control. Paying Rent: They are switching to online system soon, but you have to physically go down to the front desk and hope someone there can help you. Only certain people are allowed to take rent payments. If they aren't there or if they are on break, you're out of luck. You can't pay after 10pm either. Maintenance: Our bathtub was patched 3 times, because it had cracked and was leaking into the apartment below us. Even after three patches, Island Inn refused to fix the bathtub properly even after they had brought in someone for an estimate. Maintenance told me I couldn't take a bath anymore. Lease: They tried to be sneaky and change the lease terms on us. They had residents sign when they stopped by the front desk. I asked to take it home and refused to sign it. It had a lot of ridiculous rules like not being able to cook on a stovetop. Deposits: Make sure you get receipts if you turn in items that you don't want to have in your place like sheets, tv, etc. They don't write anything down. Also, keep all paperwork on deposits, because I almost didn't get my refund for the deposit I put down for the garage key fob, when I was checking out.

It's also subjected us to constant noise from the cranes running (think beep, beep) from 8am-4pm every weekday. Quite possibly the dumbest arrangement during COVID when many people are working from home. It's embarrassing having to explain the egregious noise levels during my Zoom calls. This work wasn't urgent and could have waited until the 2nd half of the year. One of many examples of poor consideration for the actual tenants. I will definitely nominate the management for a Darwin Award in 2021.
