I've never been issued a lease violation, no neighbors have come forward with any direct complaints, and no one has ever found anything in my unit. Still, they continue to make baseless assumptions and treat me like a problem instead of a resident. What makes it worse is the complete lack of fairness and consistency. As my lease is coming to an end, the same management team that has spent the last two years harassing me is now reaching out to ask me to renew my lease yet they refuse to allow me to transfer to a different available unit in the building. I was told that if I want a different apartment, I would have to move out entirely and reapply like a brand-new tenant. No flexibility, no appreciation for being a two-year resident. Just a cold "no" with zero willingness to work with me. That makes no sense, especially after fulfilling my lease and paying rent on time for two years. This kind of treatment feels incredibly unfair and discriminatory. The management's behavior shows they don't care about long-term tenants, only control and convenience for themselves. The apartments themselves might be decent, but the way the leasing office treats people especially long-term tenants is unacceptable. I firmly believe he would lie about other things. In addition, the microwave is installed 8" higher than industry standard making unsafe conditions for my 21 year old daughter at 5'1" tall. Island Inn is a hotel/low income housing/micro apartment…read more My husband and I lived here for a year and seven months. We moved out on 8/4/19. I don't know how anyone could give Island Inn 5 stars. One of the reviews is from someone who stayed for a very short time and a couple are from 3 years ago and 7 years. Maybe things have just worsened in that time. The good: Most of the employees are helpful and nice. Tina and Cesar are awesome! About half of the tenants are nice, polite, good people. The units are relatively cheap. We were paying $245/week. *The costs and inconveniences far outweigh the cheap rent. Everything else: Elevators: One of the elevators is out of service about once a week and it's usually the only one that goes to the garage. There is only one elevator that goes to the garage. Tenants play this stupid game where if that elevator is going up and it stops on their floor they won't get on it until it's going down....even though they have to get on it at some point anyway. It's wastes everyone's time. It's why it sometimes takes forever to get an elevator. Tenants: Half the tenants in the building have no concept of manners. If you are waiting on the front desk person, they will just go to the side of the desk and ask to get their request in first. Some will also, get on the elevator before anyone can get off. People have played loud music on the patio, left the patio door open where bugs can get in, and left their trash in the hallway. The Laundry Room: In order to do your laundry, you have to buy a laundry card and load it with cash. I've had the machine eat my cash and have used it on unknowingly broken machines. A couple of the driers wouldn't dry the clothes even after two dry cycles. Someone stole our laundry even though there are cameras in the laundry room and I was never able get it back or even find out who took it. Tracking down the manager after this and trying to get them to go through footage to find the person took forever. Even after "checking" the footage, apparently they couldn't find out who it was. After this situation, I had to watch my laundry. So, I took my laptop and sat at the table. I had a verbally abusive old woman try to bully me out of my seat and when I refused to give it up she verbally harassed me until her laundry was done. Parking: Parking is expensive at $42/week. The spots are really small and they allow cars to park with a motorcycle behind them. It's already very difficult to park. I've been scolded a few times by a maintenance guy for "driving too fast" and going to wrong way. Unfortunately, parking in some of the spots requires going the wrong way and even backing in. Electricity: I couldn't use my stovetop cooker and my microwave at the same time or the electricity would go out. Internet: The apartment "comes with" internet and cable, but our unit didn't get a great signal and we had to spring for paid internet. Mini fridge: The mini fridge doesn't keep food like a normal fridge does. My food was spoiling in about 4-5 days. In order for you to keep anything frozen, you have to crank the freezer up almost all the way, but then you'll find your freezer items get freezer burnt very quickly. Pest Control: Plan on having to leave your apartment for a couple hours and taking your animal with you once a month midweek midday for pest control. Paying Rent: They are switching to online system soon, but you have to physically go down to the front desk and hope someone there can help you. Only certain people are allowed to take rent payments. If they aren't there or if they are on break, you're out of luck. You can't pay after 10pm either. Maintenance: Our bathtub was patched 3 times, because it had cracked and was leaking into the apartment below us. Even after three patches, Island Inn refused to fix the bathtub properly even after they had brought in someone for an estimate. Maintenance told me I couldn't take a bath anymore. Lease: They tried to be sneaky and change the lease terms on us. They had residents sign when they stopped by the front desk. I asked to take it home and refused to sign it. It had a lot of ridiculous rules like not being able to cook on a stovetop. Deposits: Make sure you get receipts if you turn in items that you don't want to have in your place like sheets, tv, etc. They don't write anything down. Also, keep all paperwork on deposits, because I almost didn't get my refund for the deposit I put down for the garage key fob, when I was checking out.

The BBQs are nice, but the few times I've tried to use them, cockroaches have come out from the bottom where propane should be. Also, the HOA has made changes so that the doormen are no longer allowed to open the door for you, you are not allowed to leave your bike in your own apartment or in your parking spot (you have to pay for a pass), you aren't allowed to have lights on the balcony, you can't have a doormat at the front of your door, you can't have deliveries sent to you over 50 lbs, etc. etc. I was also recently made aware that when my roommate moved out some of her personal items, we were fined $150 because we didn't reserve an elevator. Instead of talking to her about reserving an elevator for future use, they watched her move her stuff then slapped on the fine. Furthermore, since living here I have had four separate incidents of severe water damage to my apartment due to faulty plumbing within the building. Yet the property refused to take on any liability, despite the fact that the damage did not originate from our unit ever. They were very unhelpful when trying to get the damage fixed. Overall, the property is making steps to improve aesthetically, the security guards are all friendly and as helpful as can be, but the changes made by the building owner/HOA have made it difficult to enjoy living here with all the new rules and regulations.

The place has gone under new management, and you can clearly see that the new owners are not interested in investing in the property. Things get "addressed" very haphazardly only to break down a week later. There is little care and attention to the place that we used to call home. I often wonder where my rent goes because it is NOT invested in a single thing on the property. Fire alarms are not up to date, carbon monoxide monitors in the parking garage have not worked in 8+ years, the pungent odor of dog pee all over the property, ZERO locks in the back patio area which are needed due to the high level of transient folks in the area, I can go on...
