Poor decision making by the management. They have hired painters to paint the exterior of the building during Covid. They have taken a month to paint all 4 sides and in the process caused us to have our windows covered and sealed. It's also subjected us to constant noise from the cranes running (think beep, beep) from 8am-4pm every weekday. Quite possibly the dumbest arrangement during COVID when many people are working from home. It's embarrassing having to explain the egregious noise levels during my Zoom calls. This work wasn't urgent and could have waited until the 2nd half of the year. One of many examples of poor consideration for the actual tenants. I will definitely nominate the management for a Darwin Award in 2021. read more

I lived at 600 Front for a little over 2 years, it was my first home in San Diego. The price & location of this building cannot be beat, and dealing with George was always a pleasure! This was the perfect apartment to get me up and running in San Diego! I was even able to sell my car after moving in because you can walk to absolutely anything you need. Highly recommend 4th floor units if available as the ceilings are taller - the unit I was in had a great sky light too that made everything feel super open. read more

Pros - Good location: I love the fact of being able to walk into the Gaslamp area. The apartment is located blocks away from the main area of the Gaslamp, which is a huge plus to avoid all of the craziness during the weekends. - Quite: For the most part everyone stays to his or her self. - Pool: Great for the summer time Cons - Staff: I agree with Emily they will nickel and dime the hell out of you here. - Termites: I have had multiple termite issues in my apartment. - Rental payment: 600 Front believes handwritten checks are a more suitable option than [Bank] direct deposits, which they find obsolete. They will charge you a late fee for not remembering to bring your check to the office every month. - Laundry: My clothes have been stolen on several occasions. - Parking: Parking is very tight and expensive. Other apartment buildings in the Downtown area do not charge for parking. I guess you can consider us lucky. - Maintenance: There is a good chance you will have to constantly remind them of an issue in your apartment if one arises. read more

The management is the best I've ever had. Everyone is friendly and helpful. They gave us a welcome home basket when we moved in and on our birthdays they left us birthday cards with candy. They are extremely attentive and the property is well maintained. Granted it has an outdated vibe to the outside of the building. Also it would've been nice to have laundry in put unit, but the Apartments are nicely sized and I never have trouble finding an open washer / dryer. I think of it as a hidden gem. Rent is good considering the area. Plus it's far enough away from Gaslamp that there isn't a worry about homeless outside your door. read more

Be careful. Units looks fine at first. There's little to no insulation and the sound proofing is non existence. I'd be able to look past that due to the cheap rent for downtown; however, the office will nickel and dime you when you move out. Oh and by nickel and dime, I mean $175. I got charged for 7 hours of cleaning when I moved out. I cleaned the unit thoroughly upon moving out AND I regularly had a house cleaner come. It would take her 4 hours to deep clean the entire unit. There is NO WAY that you could spend 7 hours cleaning this place. The office shrugged their shoulders and told me that they don't make money on the cleaning. It's my problem that they clearly don't monitor what their apartment cleaners charge apparently. read more

Extremely friendly management, reasonable rates for rent. The building is a little older than the new condo high rises next to it, but the staff has taken very good care of it and has kept it pretty modern. It gets a little loud on Friday and Saturday nights, my apartment faced Market St, but nothing terrible or unmanageable. The design of the building is pretty cool and quirky. Parking is a little tight so be careful in the garage. The neighborhood is awesome, great restaurants nearby, grocery stores and a high end mall one block away, and about three blocks from the convention center and waterfront. This is a prime location and an absolute steal at these prices! I had some awesome neighbors that became good friends. I am a little sad to leave this place! read more

This place was awesome. Perfect location in the Marina District that is easy walking distance from Ralphs (2 minutes), Horton Plaza (2 minutes), Seaport Village (10 minutes), Amtrak (15 minutes), Petco Park (15 minutes) and the Gaslamp District. The apartment units are great. I lived in a small 1 bedroom but it never felt cramped. I lived here for about three and a half years and never had any problem with management, and even though my rent payments crept up a bit over the years, they were still very reasonable and even cheap for the area. Upon moving out, I got just about all of my deposit back which I was not expecting! Small concerns: I lived by the pool and it could get a little noisy at times (though the pool is under construction now so I'm sure that's a different problem). Parking is expensive (justifiable for the area) and the spaces are area (I had trouble parking sometimes with my Saturn L200). Also if you're moving here, be sure to check the ventilation in the bathroom; in mine there was no vent outside so it got super stuffy in there whenever I took a shower and there was nothing they could do about it. The staff here is truly exemplary. It's also obvious the owner/management company invests back into the property itself, which is also uncommon. I've lived at 600 Front for 13 yrs. These are not the normal square apts one is used to seeing, mine has a 'sunroom' that looks out at Front st which gets pretty noisy at times but that's part of the fun with living downtown. The maintenance crew is great. If I report a problem it gets resolved that day. They also have a crew that keeps the grounds clean and safe. The staff that works in the front office have always been courteous and helpful they even go as far as to put a birthday card on my door when that day arrives. As mentioned the parking is a little tight but it works and gives you a safe place to park off the street. They have a security guard that works at night and we've never had any problems. There is a large jacuzzi and pool that is kept clean and in working order. I would recommend 600 Front apts for those that wish to live in a vibrant downtown location and live in a unique building. read more

I recently toured 600 Front Street and am thinking about moving there. I was greeted by Elena in the front office. She was polite, professional and patient. She showed me the property, including the garage and laundry room. I had lots of questions and she patiently answered each one of them. The property was clean and tidy. My impression of both the property and the management is based on a single experience but favorable not only because of the way Elena treated me but also because she patiently answered my questions. A management company that does a good job up front gets better tenants, in my opinion. read more

Be careful moving into this building. The building is semi nice and the maintenance takes a good care of the building; however, the owners hired another office manager over a year ago and this lady is money hungry in less than two years she has jacked up rent prices every year by 7% making this building not affordable any longer. They do a carrot and stick they let you move in with lower rent but after your first year the rent goes up significantly. The parking is not free or included in the rent so you have to pay extra for the parking. They are no longer painting your walls if you lived in the building for few years, they never clean your carpet or replace it which by California law they must do every three years. They also have various pluming issues sewage water leaks in the parking and at sometimes it odors really bad this is due to the building being old and the pips are rusting. The building claim the laundry does not belong to them and is operated by a third company, so if you have issues with the machine they make you call the vendor and they refuse to take care of it. I could not believe their claim they have nothing to do with it since they own the building. The cost for washing and drying is almost $4.20 and it keeps going up every year. The management says they don't have a large turn over but that is not true. I lived in the building for several years before I decided to move out I can tell you the turnover is very large almost none of the neighbors are the same as the time I moved in. I have seen people to like this place but force to move out after the first year because of higher rent. Overall the location is very convenient but a few years ago it was very affordable but is no longer the case I believe there are better places to live in downtown for the same rent. read more

I have lived at 600 Front Apartments since the early 1990's, and have transferred between apartments as my circumstances changed. The office staff has always been very accommodating and the maintenance guys are very responsive whenever I have something that needs fixing. It's almost always same day service. When I moved in to my first apartment I recall being impressed with how clean it was, but then the building was pretty new. When I moved into the apartment I am living in now, again the place was spotless. The standards for cleaning seem to be really high. Some people complain about the parking but that is probably because they have big cars. I have a small Nissan and have had no problems at all. If you want to live downtown, you will hear noise. The fire trucks and ambulances go by many times a day and at night too. You can't avoid it. But the community itself is pretty quiet. I don't hear my neighbors at all. All in all, I wouldn't still be living here after about 20 years if I didn't like it. I definitely recommend you check out 600 Front Apartments if you want to live in downtown San Diego. read more

This place was great to us...while we lived there. As we were moving out we asked the office if there were any items they would charge us for, aka cleaning, nail holes, maintenance, carpet cleaning, etc & were told no. Because we lived there for 3 years they said it was normal to have some wear & tear. We even had a gift certificate for a free repair & carpet cleaning we gave them. Even though they said we wouldn't be charged for cleaning I scrubbed the apartment from top to bottom. About a week after we moved out we got a notice telling us they were subtracting ridiculous amounts of money for repairs to the walls & for cleaning. I called & reminded them they had told us we wouldn't get charged & the guy had the nerve to tell me our place was dirty & they were giving us a deal on nail hole repairs to the walls!!! This place was happy to take our money for 3 years, but screw us over once we moved. Renter beware, this place will nickel & dime you when it's time to move out! read more

I am just getting ready to move out after 1.5 years. I thought I would write a review for others since I have lived here for a while and can convey some accurate information about 600 Front Street Apartments. Overall, if you are looking to rent downtown and you are not wealthy, this is your place! Not to insinuate this place is simple and rundown, I am saying if you don't have at least $800,000 to buy a place in some of the surrounding buildings, to include $750.00 a month homeowner fees and you want to rent not own, this is your place. It is affordable for the big city nice area lifestyle. Perfect location. It is clean, they are responsive to any complaints you have on appliances, etc., they have locked gates and security, and I think this is the best location downtown, period. It is walking distance to everything, yet far enough from the Gaslamp and the college kids out to play, yes college kids. You will feel old in the Gaslamp if you are middle aged like me. Now, if you are looking for quiet, downtown is not your place. If you want the lifestyle of living downtown, this is your perfect and affordable place. You are minutes walking from everything to include gyms, two movies theaters, shopping, 100's of restaurants, dry cleaners, the water, PetCo Park, and the biggest convenience; you are essentially one minute walking to the only chain large grocery store downtown, Ralph's. My unit facing Market Street worried me at first due to the noise. However, just as the residents of Point Loma get used to the airline noise, you will get used to the drunks, fights, horns, brakes, talking, loud music, college kids who cant hold their liquor walking or stumbling to their cars somewhere in Marina Village (location of these apartments), train nose, train warning bells, and most of all; sirens. I am being factitious listing only some of the noises, but you have to be willing to want and enjoy the big city downtown lifestyle. You will get used to it and it won't annoy you...eventually. I am glad in retrospect I got an apartment facing the street rather than an internal apartment, because it gave me a view and the feel of living downtown. There is relatively little crime for a big city, but still some crime of course. Violent crime is typically the kids' fistfighting at the Gaslamp or walking from the Gaslamp but it is just good ole' old fashion fistfights with lots of yelling and posturing but no gang violence to speak of. As long as you don't go to the Gaslamp in the late evening and pick fights with the drunk kids, you shouldn't experience any violent crime. I never felt unsafe walking downtown even in the evening. The only murders that do occur from time to time are typically bum on bum. Speaking of bums, there are many but they are relatively harmless mentally ill folks who aren't aggressive. The only altering thing in your life living downtown will be to watch where you walk because they defecate in the street and sidewalk sometimes and getting acclimated to politely saying no to the spare change solicitations. However, if you have lived in other urban cities, you will be surprised how little solicitation and annoyance there is, especially the lack of aggressive behavior by the mentally ill. SDPD does a good job doing as much as the law allows to keep them contained. If you are a bleeding heart and don't care for my categorization, you will be in heaven and you can give them all the money you want to supply their drug habits. This is a great place and in a great location and the staff will treat you well. You will even get to know the security guards by name. Don't expect to know your neighbors, you will be lucky to get a hello from most. My theory is it is downtown so everyone is on guard, these are apartments thus a transient population, and most are younger folks who grew up on reality TV and video games and have not learned the art of interpersonal communication. But you will find that anywhere downtown not exclusive to this place. The only real negative is parking. You will only get one space and your space will be very small. If a large car is adjacent to you, or you own a large car, you will be sorry. Be very careful and diligent when you find a place with the manager upon moving in. There are different size spaces with different fees too. Parking will be the biggest drawback by far. Notice how close the cars are to each other when selecting your space. Yes, go with the manager to personally select your space. And, if you don't feel comfortable being a car surgeon using your driving skills to carefully negotiate your parking everyday, you may have it reconsider this place. I suspect there have been many, many dents, dings and scraps in their underground parking lot. So again, pay close attention to the space you select. Other than that, this is your place!!! I would say it is perfect if it wasn't for the parking, so I will say it is near perfect! read more

Also, the location is perfect for anyone working downtown. Most importantly, the staff is amazing; in addition to being friendly and professional, they made this building a great community. I've been living here for about 7 months and I absolutely love this apartment complex. From my first impression to this current day, I feel the same way about this place. It's located in the Marina district, very safe and clean atmosphere, and within walking distance to anything you could ask for in downtown SD. Horton Plaza (downtown mall), Ralph's 24-hour grocery store, SD convention center, Seaport Village, Gaslamp District with endless venues for dining and nightlife. Also, the management workers here are very professional and amiable people (Olena, George, Rene, etc.). Some amenities include an optional personal/assigned (albeit VERY small) parking space in a secured parking garage, on-site laundry, and a pool. The complex is situated next door to high-class condominiums and near Hyatt and Marriott hotels. read more

I have lived here for almost 4 years and it has been the best experience of my life. The location is prime, the jacuzzi is amazing! Ralph's is a block away, the gym is a block away connected to Horton plaza. Seaport village is 4 blocks west and 5th ave gaslamp is 5 blocks east. If I ever had an issue with my apartment the maintenance staff was there the same day to fix the issue. Even on thanksgiving I had a plumbing issue and they fixed it that same day! Olena and Marv in the office are always a huge help. I always get a good vibe, and the entire office staff lives on the property so they are always available. Parking underground is super super convenient. Seriously the best place I have ever lived, even when friends and family visited they felt like they were on vacation because it is so central to all the cool stuff to do downtown. read more

It's been close to a year since I moved out of 600 Front, and before that I lived in two different 1br units over the span of 18 months. I really enjoyed my time there, and was sad to move out due to budget restrictions; the price increase at lease renewal was never unreasonable, I just had to start saving more d/t student loan repayments. Aesthetically, the building gets a lot of love for being fairly old (I think 80's?) per downtown standards. I liked the asymmetric corners, different-colored doors, and varied layouts of the different units. On-site maintenance was terrific, I feel so bad for forgetting their names; they fixed things very quickly, and maintained higher than average standards for the cleanliness and functionality of everything within the units. So you're not going to have granite countertops or tiled floors, but it will be in great shape and was for me a non-issue. Management was terrific in that they maintained consistent and timely communication via email and phone. There was occasional social events for residents as well. Pool was small but a nice treat on summer days, and hot tub was appreciated by many year-round. Location wise it was a perfect distance between Gaslamp and the beautiful marina. I opted for units facing the courtyard to avoid street noise, though the courtyard itself dose echo with footsteps and voices, which matters on those Fri and Sat nights. Would've appreciated a ceiling fan in the bedroom, but the one in the living room (along w/ AC unit) was usually sufficient since the location got a decent sea breeze. Agreed with many that the parking situation was a real thorn in my side, even for my Corolla, because my neighbor's full size vehicles would start creeping into my space. I know of people who took minutes to fit in their spot, so prepare to collect scratches if you're not great at backing in and keeping literally 1-2" space from other objects. Really, the only things keeping me from returning are the cost of living in downtown and parking for my s/o who has a larger car. Otherwise, I really miss it. The standard of management/maintenace at my current complex is probably 60% of what it was at 600 Front. read more

This is my first Yelp and I am doing it simply to recommend this building. Without a doubt, it is the most affordable and impressive building in downtown San Diego. I've lived here for two years and the management has always been helpful, courteous, and on the point. If you are thinking about living downtown you will not find a place better than 600 Front. It is near the Gaslamp but far enough that you avoid some of the hooligans and it is a short walk from the bay, 24 hour fitness, horton plaza, and Ralph's Grocery store. Still, the greatest asset this building has is it's management team. read more

I love this place! I've been living here for a year and I have to say that this is the best location to live downtown. You're close to everything! A block from Horton Plaza and 24 hr Ralphs Grocery. Two blocks from Seaport Village, 4 blocks from the Gaslamp, around the corner from the Convention Center. Everything is within walking distance that you could ask for. Being located in the Marina district is a plus also because you don't have to worry about so many bums hanging out around the building like you would in the East Village. Also, the staff at the front office is great. They are always smiling, leave a courtesy card on your door for your birthday, and gave me a gift to say thanks for renewing my lease. The only problems I have with the place is that the windows are thin and you can hear everything outside, especially if the neighbors come in late from the club and want to talk loud. Also, parking can be a problem if you get a $65 a month spot. I'm paying $100 a month for a spot to not get my doors dinged but you still can't beat having your own parking downtown. And there is a security person on duty every night with a post in the parking lot so you feel safe. Overall I love the location and think this is the best place to rent downtown! read more

Department of Real Estate-Enforcement 1350 Front St # 3064 San Diego, CA 92101 Dear Madam/Sir: Sub: 600 Front St Apartments, located at 600 Front St, San Diego, CA 92101 On July 2, 2009, after negotiating and submitting an application for a rental apartment, I was directed by the Management of 600 Front Street Apartments to sign a " Deposit Holding Agreement" and send it ASAP along with a deposit and first month's rent check. I forwarded all necessary items by Express Mail so as to reach them on July 2, 2009. However, unbeknownst to me, the managment had already planned not to give me the apartment which needlessly caused me both financial and emotional damage. It appears that the Management used my application and signed agreement to induce someone else to sign up for the same apartment. 600 Front Apartments also collected fees that were unnecessary and uncalled for. I find their behavior unfair, in bad faith and tantamount to misrepresentation. I hereby request the Real Estate board to take remedial action so that future renters are not victimized by unscrupulous apartment rental companies. I had a very bad experience with 600 Front Apartments. They took a fee along with a "deposit holding agreement" and 3 months rent. I arrived in San Diego after a long haul from Salt Lake city only to find out that " I was denied". These people strung me for no reason. If you ever deal with them, please exercise caution and better still, find another apartment complex that is ethical, friendly and honest. The folks at " 600 Front apartments in San Diego" are mean, have no scruples and will sell you out for an easy dollar! My deposit has not been returned! read more

Last year the pool was closed for almost 8 months for remodeling it took the building a few months to obtain a certificate from the County of San Diego as they failed inspection. It appears they hired a company which didn't know how to build a pool that passes inspection. Anyways we got the pool open after the county ordered them to modify the design that was last year. About 8 weeks ago our spa/jacuzzi stopped working again it is been so long and the building management doesn't really care to fix it. It looks like the contractor messed up entire installation and they might have to redo the spa. This is awful because we are paying a fee built into our rent for using the spa but we can't and they don't care to fix this. Someone got to get fired over this I mean the office manager was fired last year but this is a rip off to the resident the longer the spa is "Off" the more money they are saving. read more

I have been a long time resident at 600 Front Street Apartments, and am in my second apartment in that building. The people who work in this building do an amazing job and are very friendly; they have all been working here and some of them living here, for many, many years. The location is great and affords me the luxury of walking to and from work and all over the downtown area. The community itself is quiet - but in downtown the street noise comes with the package. When a maintenance issue arises - the issue is promptly resolved. If packages come in during the day - a phone call to the office is all it takes to request that it be delivered to your apartment. The community affords its residents a great deal of privacy and autonomy; however, many of the residents have lived there for years and are friendly and helpful. If there is a downside, it is only that there is no laundry in the individual units and pets are not allowed. But the rest is all good. It has been a huge blessing to be able to live in downtown and I am grateful to have been able to stay in one place for all of these years. read more
