I came to this salon thru my friend's recommendation. She said Mary is really sweet and she listen. On that day of my appointment she's not even smiling and sounds blah. Anyhow, I texted her to let her know that my hair is not remotely closed to what I want. She told me that she did highlights and lowlights. I was recommended to this place by a friend who grew up in the Bay Area and I'm from Southern California. I was looking for someone to touch up my hair and lighten it for summer and she said to try Vanity Salon. I trusted her because I love the way her hair comes out every done it gets done. I've messaged multiple times asking for an appointment and finally got a response back from Jennifer (days later) saying she would check her schedule the next day she went into work. One week later- no response. I thought okay, she's busy so let me try her again. I texted her again asking for an update- no response. At that point, I was a bit frustrated that she couldn't even bother and say she was booked up. So I decided to contact another stylist at the salon, Ambar. SAME THING! It's been days without a response. I've even called the salon and no one has bothered to give a call back. If you are a new client, I suggest not wasting your time with this place. A simple response would've gone a long way with me. It just looks unprofessional and like you don't care. I'm pretty understanding too, they do great work and they are busy but like I said.. it's simple to send a quick message or even call me back. read more

I had high expectations for this salon and for Janet, but I was let down. I wanted to get my hair trimmed and dyed. I went in with reference pictures of ombres and balayages and explained that I needed my hair to look as natural as possible because I am in the military. After a few minutes of chatting, Janet suggested and ombre that started uo higher with some balayage highlights to blend it in with my natural roots. I don't speak "hair dresser," but I trusted that she knew what sje was talking about. I gave the okay and she jumped right in and started putting bleach in my hair. She was very sweet the whole time. Janet did seem a little distracted, but I didn't let that bother me. I had faith that she would do a fantastic job. ( I won't go into detail about the dying process. It was pretty routine, except that she seemed a little rushed. ) The end result shocked me. My hair was bleach blonde from my ends to about 4 inches from my roots with a few "blended" highlights here and there. It was the color of Barbie's hair. I smiled and thought to myself that I needed to relax and give it time to settle in. It looked nothing like what we had agreed on, but maybe it would grow on me. (I will attach pictures) When I got home and took a good look, I noticed that my hair was completely fried. Janet had taken about 4 inches off of my ends and then fried what was left. I wanted to cry. On top of that, my supervisors strongly advised me to adjust my hair color immediately because it was violating my dress code regulations (military stuff). After about a week of trying to figure out what to do, I decided to text Janet and ask her to fix my hair. I explained to her that my supervisors did not like it and that I was beginning to dislike it as well. Plenty was said (I won't replay the whole conversation), but she basically shot down my suggestions for color correction and told me that there was not much that could be done to make it look natural. This irritated me because "natural" was my main request. I caved and agreed to do a simple toner, as she suggested. When I asked her when she could fit me in, she said that she could squeeze me in after a specific date. When I asked her again about what date she had decided on, she told me that she had already booked all of her openings. This was after having agreed to fit me in. She also had the nerve to tell me the price of the toner. I could not believe it. She then suggested that i see her coworker, to which I agreed only if I did not have to pay. I had already paid $210 for my Barbie doll hair. Janet responded by reminding me what part of the $210 were spent on a cut, dye, shampoo, and tip. I found it very tasteless and unprofessional. I will not be coming back to this salon ever again. I could have gotten past the aweful dye job, if it had not been for Janet's lack of professionalism. I am now going from 2 stars to 1 star. I feel like I'm being harassed. I got a call from Ashley, the hair dresser this morning. The conversation started our very promising. Here is how it went: "Hi Mitra, I know there was some back and forth on yelp and I'm calling to sincerely apologize. BUT...you did not come in with a picture and the whole time I was cutting your hair, I asked you if I was giving you enough texture and you said yes." I got upset right away. I told her that I DID in fact bring a picture and that this was the most a$$ backwards apology I ever heard. You don't apologize by putting the blame on the customer. I told her I knew she was calling because they were trying to get me to retract or change my yelp review. She disagreed and said she did not remember me bringing a picture. The fact is, I did not write my review until weeks after I got my cut, complained, and received the refund. No one reached out to me until I wrote the review, so you can't tell me this has nothing to do with the yelp review. I told her to stop contacting me and that I would document everything on yelp. She huffed and ended with a condescending "well I hope you have a great day." If they continue to contact me, I will report them to yelp for harassment. read more

Came in for a quickie bang trim. I asked for piecey bangs, which I already had but needed mowed down a bit. I ended up with pieces on the right that were almost a full inch longer than those on the left. At the end, she sprayed it up and used a round brush to curl it under (maybe so the choppy ends wouldn't show?) But after the next shower I took, it was clear I had been cursed with frankenstein bangs. oy! To her credit, the stylist did check in during the cut to ask if I wanted anything fixed/modified. But even after attempted adjustments, it was clear I had to dip if I wanted to salvage the hair I had left. The stylists I've met there are nice, begin their appointments on time, and have reasonable prices. This bad experience was with -one- stylist, so I can't speak for the others who work there and may be great! But I'm definitely not going to risk returning. She is very friendly, welcoming and makes you feel like a friend. She has told me since day one if I don't like my hair to tell her. She wants her clients to be nothing but happy with the way they look. You can tell that Ashley loves what she does and cares about her clients. I love the work she does. Every time I bring multiple pictures because I'm indecisive and I get her opinion. I have noticed that when we put blonde into my hair it not only was able to lift it also didn't turn too brassy quickly. The brand the salon uses is a quality brand. This last visit I showed her a picture but wanted other colors, we choose the colors together and I got her option on how it would look. I was going to give this salon a try because my hair stylist is about a 2 hour drive away but she's famous so I won't go to just anyone.. called vanity 2 days ago to ask for a cut and toner before I actually tried them for bayalage. I don't normally like leaving bad reviews but I feel compelled to write my experience. I came in for a root touch up and a cut and after dropping $130 I left feeling extremely disappointed. Sachi was extremely sloppy at applying the color and kept getting the color all over my ears, forehead and neck. It was literally all over!! I nicely asked her to remove it since I didn't want it to stain plus I had somewhere to go afterward and she kept saying, "well it's black so that's why!". What??? The color being black isn't the issue it is the sloppy uncareful application!! She ended up handing me a wipe for me to remove it (what great service...not!!!) And she continued to get it all over me and kept making excuses and saying that it's black color (almost a complaint from her that she had to use black!!!) and that was the reason it was dripping into my ears and down my forehead!!! I have done my own roots many times and never get it all over like she did. Sloppy just sloppy!! Then she left me to process for over an hour as she stayed in the back room. I have never ever spent so long processing especially just for roots!!! She never even checked on me the entire time.....rude!! Then she styled my hair and it came out extremely frizzy. My hair never comes out this frizzy ever!! I left feeling short in the pocket and not at all good like I normally do after getting my hair done. Now here's the thing....it took over 3 1/2 hours for a cut, root touch up and style which is crazy long!! Also she curled my hair which disguised the awe-full haircut she gave me. When I got home I had a chance to better inspect it and after washing it and straightening it I was completely shocked at the cut!! It was completely uneven and choppy with missed strands!!! I ended up having to cut it myself later to even it out. Totally unacceptable for $130 service!! I literally would have been better off going to Supercuts!! read more

Before coming here I use to cut my own hair due to bad experiences in the past. Then today I was just tired and lazy of cutting my own hair so I looked up a spot on yelp. This had the highest ratings. I was bummed at first because it was by appointments only and I pushed my luck and called anyways. Luckily, a client of Jami had canceled and she had an opening. I've reached out to 3 stylist via text as requested in their personal IG accounts. 2 replied about 2 days later but have yet to book me. She will be let you know what she can and can not do. I've had two balayage sessions with Patty and each time I've left the salon with not being able to stop looking at myself in the mirror. I picked the color that I wanted for my hair, a vanilla cream soda color and patty saw that my hair needed to be more ashy and she added some extra color and she made it look 100x better. I am in love with her results, she is super talented! And the price is really good! It's a little less than $200 but I've been to many salons in San Francisco and I've had to pay waaay more for not as good of a job. So please go to Vanity and request Patty. Tbh I wanted to like my hair but it's just not what I wanted. She did a nice hair color but it was nothing like the picture I showed her and my haircut was just not it. I asked her for long layers just because I didn't know if I could trust her and it just looked choppy? I don't know how she was able to admit it herself that if she did higher layer it would look choppier. I don't ever remember layers being done this way. I was charged $305 plus the tip I gave her for feeling guilty of not doing it. My recommendation is look elsewhere unless you trust the person you are going to. read more
