I had high expectations for this salon and for Janet, but I was let down. I wanted to get my hair trimmed and dyed. I went in with reference pictures of ombres and balayages and explained that I needed my hair to look as natural as possible because I am in the military. After a few minutes of chatting, Janet suggested and ombre that started uo higher with some balayage highlights to blend it in with my natural roots. I don't speak "hair dresser," but I trusted that she knew what sje was talking about. I gave the okay and she jumped right in and started putting bleach in my hair. She was very sweet the whole time. Janet did seem a little distracted, but I didn't let that bother me. I had faith that she would do a fantastic job. ( I won't go into detail about the dying process. It was pretty routine, except that she seemed a little rushed. ) The end result shocked me. My hair was bleach blonde from my ends to about 4 inches from my roots with a few "blended" highlights here and there. It was the color of Barbie's hair. I smiled and thought to myself that I needed to relax and give it time to settle in. It looked nothing like what we had agreed on, but maybe it would grow on me. (I will attach pictures) When I got home and took a good look, I noticed that my hair was completely fried. Janet had taken about 4 inches off of my ends and then fried what was left. I wanted to cry. On top of that, my supervisors strongly advised me to adjust my hair color immediately because it was violating my dress code regulations (military stuff). After about a week of trying to figure out what to do, I decided to text Janet and ask her to fix my hair. I explained to her that my supervisors did not like it and that I was beginning to dislike it as well. Plenty was said (I won't replay the whole conversation), but she basically shot down my suggestions for color correction and told me that there was not much that could be done to make it look natural. This irritated me because "natural" was my main request. I caved and agreed to do a simple toner, as she suggested. When I asked her when she could fit me in, she said that she could squeeze me in after a specific date. When I asked her again about what date she had decided on, she told me that she had already booked all of her openings. This was after having agreed to fit me in. She also had the nerve to tell me the price of the toner. I could not believe it. She then suggested that i see her coworker, to which I agreed only if I did not have to pay. I had already paid $210 for my Barbie doll hair. Janet responded by reminding me what part of the $210 were spent on a cut, dye, shampoo, and tip. I found it very tasteless and unprofessional. I will not be coming back to this salon ever again. I could have gotten past the aweful dye job, if it had not been for Janet's lack of professionalism. I am now going from 2 stars to 1 star. I feel like I'm being harassed. I got a call from Ashley, the hair dresser this morning. The conversation started our very promising. Here is how it went: "Hi Mitra, I know there was some back and forth on yelp and I'm calling to sincerely apologize. BUT...you did not come in with a picture and the whole time I was cutting your hair, I asked you if I was giving you enough texture and you said yes." I got upset right away. I told her that I DID in fact bring a picture and that this was the most a$$ backwards apology I ever heard. You don't apologize by putting the blame on the customer. I told her I knew she was calling because they were trying to get me to retract or change my yelp review. She disagreed and said she did not remember me bringing a picture. The fact is, I did not write my review until weeks after I got my cut, complained, and received the refund. No one reached out to me until I wrote the review, so you can't tell me this has nothing to do with the yelp review. I told her to stop contacting me and that I would document everything on yelp. She huffed and ended with a condescending "well I hope you have a great day." If they continue to contact me, I will report them to yelp for harassment. read more

This review is for Mary. I came in this Saturday for a color and haircut. I came home disappointed for both. I asked for an ombré, I showed her a picture for inspiration and I thought she got it . I came to this salon thru my friend's recommendation. She said Mary is really sweet and she listen. On that day of my appointment she's not even smiling and sounds blah. Anyhow, I texted her to let her know that my hair is not remotely closed to what I want. She told me that she did highlights and lowlights. Surprisingly, I never mention highlights when I came in not heard from her. I want OMBRÉ. And oh, I asked her if she can do more layer on my hair and she refused . I get it that she's in a hurry cause she has another customer waiting so I just let it go, in consideration to somebody's waiting for her. Instead she sounds so defensive and didn't offer anything to fix the problem. I will never come back or refer any of my friends or daughter to this salon. I wasted my time and money to get the same hair color. read more

Came in for a quickie bang trim. I asked for piecey bangs, which I already had but needed mowed down a bit. I ended up with pieces on the right that were almost a full inch longer than those on the left. At the end, she sprayed it up and used a round brush to curl it under (maybe so the choppy ends wouldn't show?) But after the next shower I took, it was clear I had been cursed with frankenstein bangs. oy! To her credit, the stylist did check in during the cut to ask if I wanted anything fixed/modified. But even after attempted adjustments, it was clear I had to dip if I wanted to salvage the hair I had left. The stylists I've met there are nice, begin their appointments on time, and have reasonable prices. This bad experience was with -one- stylist, so I can't speak for the others who work there and may be great! But I'm definitely not going to risk returning. I've had bangs my whole life and this was the worst they've ever been chopped. read more

This review is for Ashley. I've been a client of Ashley's for about 6 months. Since the first time I sat in her chair she is nothing but exceptional. She is very friendly, welcoming and makes you feel like a friend. She has told me since day one if I don't like my hair to tell her. She wants her clients to be nothing but happy with the way they look. You can tell that Ashley loves what she does and cares about her clients. I love the work she does. Every time I bring multiple pictures because I'm indecisive and I get her opinion. I have noticed that when we put blonde into my hair it not only was able to lift it also didn't turn too brassy quickly. The brand the salon uses is a quality brand. This last visit I showed her a picture but wanted other colors, we choose the colors together and I got her option on how it would look. When she was all done I wasn't a complete fan of the warm toner, so without hesitation Ashley re-toned my hair, she even stayed late! Go to Ashley, you won't regret it! read more

I usually don't get too creative when it comes to my hair. But I wanted a change and something fresh and new. I didn't have plans on getting my hair done, but tried my luck by walking in. The surroundings were roomy, clean, and simple. As I entered I was greeted right away and they took me as a walk in. I asked for a caramel balayage with long layers. Maria was my stylist and I was very pleased with the end results. I have stick straight black hair and my color was not brassy what so ever. Loved it, and will be back. PROs: Great attention to detail styling, roomy interior, & young and hip vibe. They are open to your suggestions as to what hair color or style you like. CONs: nada read more

Look for paty! She's a pro and will go above and beyond. My hair was naturally black and this is my first light color and I love it! Paty made sure that she will do the lightest as my hair can take, well I think when you go blonde you'll never go back! Lol soo happy of my new hairdo! read more

Took my sister here to get her hair done for her senior portraits. We searched for months for a salon and we found Vanity Salon. She came very excited for a cut and first time color with Xochilt. The color turned out great. The cut.. not at all! After my sister washed her hair here at home and we saw it straightened out, I noticed her hair was not cut straight AT ALL. I will not be taking her back here nor recommending Xochilt at Vanity Salon for a cut. For the price we paid for BOTH services, we expected to get our money's worth. Very disappointed! read more

I was recommended to this place by a friend who grew up in the Bay Area and I'm from Southern California. I was looking for someone to touch up my hair and lighten it for summer and she said to try Vanity Salon. I trusted her because I love the way her hair comes out every done it gets done. I've messaged multiple times asking for an appointment and finally got a response back from Jennifer (days later) saying she would check her schedule the next day she went into work. One week later- no response. I thought okay, she's busy so let me try her again. I texted her again asking for an update- no response. At that point, I was a bit frustrated that she couldn't even bother and say she was booked up. So I decided to contact another stylist at the salon, Ambar. SAME THING! It's been days without a response. I've even called the salon and no one has bothered to give a call back. If you are a new client, I suggest not wasting your time with this place. A simple response would've gone a long way with me. It just looks unprofessional and like you don't care. I'm pretty understanding too, they do great work and they are busy but like I said.. it's simple to send a quick message or even call me back. read more

Just found out about this salon a few months ago and let me tell you, I will never go elsewhere! All the girls are super friendly. They make you feel very welcomed from the moment you walk through the door. I personally get my hair done by Janet Perez she is amazing, sweet and very talented! She knows exactly what she's doing! Decided to come here, the one next to the Barber Shop, after reviews and pictures I have seen. Bad mistake, my hair is damaged and very thin. Also got ghosted after several text messages. Very bad customer service. Do not waste your time and money at this salon. I also think some of the girls here prefer Hispanic clients over anyone else. read more

I have nothing but great things to say about Vanity Salon. Amazing customer service, reasonable pricing, flexible schedules, and such a clean place. I truly recommend Janet Perez, she never disappoints me when she does my hair! She's the first person I've ever trusted to do my hair and I always plan on coming to her from now on. Every time I come in, I tell her what I want and the outcome is better than I expected. She always takes her time and I love how she always curls my hair at the end. She's always so helpful for me to find the right products for my hair, too. Highly recommend everyone to go to this salon! All the hair stylists are extremely talented! read more

Well. I was going to give this salon a try because my hair stylist is about a 2 hour drive away but she's famous so I won't go to just anyone.. called vanity 2 days ago to ask for a cut and toner before I actually tried them for bayalage. The person on the phone said someone would call me later that day .. it's been two days and still no phone call. Ive read other reviews of this happening as well. They lost out on my business and everyone I usually refer because Im BIG on referring.. in the mean time I've already got my hair cut and toned. Thanks for nada! -- and a response to the business. I was told I would be called back that SAME day when the rest of the stylists came in... so It doesn't sound like the business was closed.. read more

I don't normally like leaving bad reviews but I feel compelled to write my experience. I came in for a root touch up and a cut and after dropping $130 I left feeling extremely disappointed. Sachi was extremely sloppy at applying the color and kept getting the color all over my ears, forehead and neck. It was literally all over!! I nicely asked her to remove it since I didn't want it to stain plus I had somewhere to go afterward and she kept saying, "well it's black so that's why!". What??? The color being black isn't the issue it is the sloppy uncareful application!! She ended up handing me a wipe for me to remove it (what great service...not!!!) And she continued to get it all over me and kept making excuses and saying that it's black color (almost a complaint from her that she had to use black!!!) and that was the reason it was dripping into my ears and down my forehead!!! I have done my own roots many times and never get it all over like she did. Sloppy just sloppy!! Then she left me to process for over an hour as she stayed in the back room. I have never ever spent so long processing especially just for roots!!! She never even checked on me the entire time.....rude!! Then she styled my hair and it came out extremely frizzy. My hair never comes out this frizzy ever!! I left feeling short in the pocket and not at all good like I normally do after getting my hair done. Now here's the thing....it took over 3 1/2 hours for a cut, root touch up and style which is crazy long!! Also she curled my hair which disguised the awe-full haircut she gave me. When I got home I had a chance to better inspect it and after washing it and straightening it I was completely shocked at the cut!! It was completely uneven and choppy with missed strands!!! I ended up having to cut it myself later to even it out. Totally unacceptable for $130 service!! I literally would have been better off going to Supercuts!! read more

Before coming here I use to cut my own hair due to bad experiences in the past. Then today I was just tired and lazy of cutting my own hair so I looked up a spot on yelp. This had the highest ratings. I was bummed at first because it was by appointments only and I pushed my luck and called anyways. Luckily, a client of Jami had canceled and she had an opening. Stated that if I came in right away that they can squeeze me in. I was down the street so I went in with my head full of dead hair. I am beyond grateful that I stumbled upon this location. Jami was extremely friendly and nice. And not to mention I walked out with confidence also hair that was healthy!! I am definitely returning in the future for future services. I'm heartbroken. Really truly heartbroken. Carisa has done my hair twice prior to this last visit and did such a amazing job. This past visit I felt like she was rushing and didn't really care. I got the impression from previous visits that she was really compassionate about what she does. A couple days went by and I noticed my hair was more on the orange side. I sent a text over to express my concern. She said we we agreed on a low light in our consultation. Was that a way of saying your hair isn't going to be like the picture? She explained how I wasn't going to achieve that look in one session. Wish I knew beforehand. I would've opted for something different. Cut, color, blow dry, style and tip was a little more than two hundred. That's pretty steep for not getting what you requested. read more

I really appreciate Jenny reaching out to me and offering to fix my hair. It was not her responsibility to do so, but she did anyway. I did not think it was fair for her to fix someone else's mistake. That person, Jessica, did not even bother to reach out even though she knew about my review. I just moved from Seattle and had seen the same stylist for a few years. It was hard to leave her (and my family too ). Since moving to Cali, I've been to one Salon only and was just meh. I'm not picky but I do know what I like. There are times that I'm clueless to what I want and leave it up to the stylist to help me figure it out. Today I knew I wanted more blonde and to go shorter. Maribel delivered on that and so much more! I have a lot of hair so normally it's blown out then textured to remove he weight. Even though she still did hat, she didn't have to as much because she nailed the cut while it was wet! I was shocked! I'm used to seeing a lot more on the floor when it's time for texture/thinning. Needless to say I looooove it and will be going back! Thank you Maribel! read more

Ashley did the best highlighting and lowlighting that I have ever had done!!!!! How did I get so lucky???? #1 I read the YELP reviews and #2 I took in photos of what I wanted done. She nailed it. Ashley is very professional and her mother was helping out at the salon and was very pleasant to chat with. Overall a very good experience.!!!! We discussed my past experiences with color and she came up with a game plan and nailed it!!! Heads up, there was no signage out front and I had a hard time finding it for the first time. It is located right next door to a locksmith. Also they did not have the little tables near the work station for setting your purse, etc so they very kindly drug something over from the waiting area. So if anyone is thinking of going here...I'm going to do you the favor of YESSSS!! I've only had the pleasure of working with Patty and she is phenomenal. She is so kind and really knows her stuff. She will be let you know what she can and can not do. I've had two balayage sessions with Patty and each time I've left the salon with not being able to stop looking at myself in the mirror. I picked the color that I wanted for my hair, a vanilla cream soda color and patty saw that my hair needed to be more ashy and she added some extra color and she made it look 100x better. I am in love with her results, she is super talented! And the price is really good! It's a little less than $200 but I've been to many salons in San Francisco and I've had to pay waaay more for not as good of a job. So please go to Vanity and request Patty. Tbh I wanted to like my hair but it's just not what I wanted. She did a nice hair color but it was nothing like the picture I showed her and my haircut was just not it. I asked her for long layers just because I didn't know if I could trust her and it just looked choppy? I don't know how she was able to admit it herself that if she did higher layer it would look choppier. I don't ever remember layers being done this way.
