The pastries in this bakery are some of the best I've ever had on the West Coast. Pender Island fog is my favourite hot beverage.

Can't go wrong if you're looking for something savory or sweet. Great quiches, great pastries,…read moregreat coffees and even better staff. So friendly and welcoming. Stopped here a few times in the last week while vacationing on Orcas Island. Had a great talk with David during one of our visits. Have us lots of recommendations for bakeries down in SF and near Santa Rosa where we're from. A must stop if visiting Orcas.

I used to love my trips to Orcas (especially when I would come out to ref volleyball) but it has…read morebeen years since a visit since our family moved to Idaho. I was excited to visit Eastsound and did some research on the current food vibe. Being a caterer/baker myself I was super excited to check out Brown Bear Baking and "treat" our group to some of their bakes. Sadly we were pretty disappointed in 2/3 of our purchases. First of all, the sticky bun was underbaked, doughy with no spring to the roll. I will say that their "sticky" was delicious. On the other end of the spectrum the blueberry peach almond coffee cake was burnt and extremely dry. My daughter did enjoy her peanut butter cream filled sandwich cookie so, points for that. What makes me sad is that I am not sure when I will get a chance to return to see if it was an off day for them and also, food prices are SO high it is disappointing to basically throw away $15 worth of food. Lastly, I am not sure what it is...but what happened to "service with a smile"?....it seemed lacking at most of the places we patronized yesterday.

Wonderful bakery in Friday Harbor with great pastries. We had the apple danish, pain au chocolat,…read moreberry cheese danish, and the carrot cake muffin. Each pastry was great but the highlight was the berry cheese danish. We also really liked how the apple danish wasn't extremely sweet and the texture of the carrot cake muffin. The bakery also has coffee and pizza available, but we didn't try any of that. Seating wise, there's both indoor and outdoor seating available for guests and water on tap. The ordering process was smooth but we sat, bussed, and served ourself which was fine.

Free parking can be found in the parking lot. Discover is an accepted form of payment. Orders are placed and paid for at the counter. A small outdoor seating area is available as well as indoor seating. Beer and wine can be purchased. Craft coffee drinks can be ordered and enjoyed with ones' pastry order. Bread loaves/rounds can be purchased whole or can be sliced. Some breads are also available in sandwich form (roll/baguette/Rosetta). Menu offers pizza; unfortunately, we were too early for pizza. All pizzas are available as take-and-bakes. Pizza slices are not available until 11am. Sandwiches and salads can also be ordered. My wife and I shared a Cinnamon Roll for $4.75; served warm upon request. We also shared a Cheese Claw for $4; served warm upon request. We ordered a Ham & Cheese Croissant for $5.50 to eat later at our lodging. The minimal interaction with the staff was friendly. Our sweet treats were tasty and reasonably priced. Thank you, Bakery San Juan for fueling our day of fun.

Great find in the cute little burg of Sidney. Fairly extensive selection of handmade pastries,…read morecookies and savory sandwiches. They even sell dog biscuits that are baked in-house. Everything looked tempting so we purchased a lot: a fig tapenade Brie sandwich (wonderful flavours, a little heavy on the bread and light on the cheese); a mango danish (delicate, crisp pastry strewn with baked mango chunks); a vegetarian pizza (cheesy and flavourful); and my favourite, an oatmeal fudge bar (like the one Starbucks used to sell, but with higher-quality ingredients and most importantly, more chocolate!). We also got a salad as a nod to nutrition, which was fresh, contained a surprising amount of bocconcini and came with a tasty vinaigrette - a little overpriced for the portion tho. Service was friendly and prompt. No seating inside, but there are a few benches outside where one can enjoy the treats if the weather's fine--and it was. 4.5

The Fickle Fig Express is a cute little bakery serving up some fabulous pastries, along with friendly service with a smile. Located on the central high street core of Sidney, make this bakery one not to miss. I was lucky they had anything left, getting here at 3pm. Cause you know how it is when it comes to bakeries - the early bird gets the worm. The Cinnamon Bun was very good & the Chocolate Almond Brownie - sensational.
