Good baked goods, poor espresso. Coffee is weak and tasteless. I originally ordered a pair of oat milk lattes and was disappointed. They tasted of no more than burnt oats. I asked for them to be remade and the staff said they also didn't like the oat milk. So why does Barb's carry it? The remade lattes were a touch better. One with regular milk didn't have any coffee flavor but wasn't terribly offensive. The almond milk latte was only slightly better. Since they are charging $1 for this, I recommend to buy a higher grade like Oatly or Calafia. read more

Once we have got off the ferry, we got to this bakery and bistro immediately. We had a super late lunch. A server was kindly letting us know that their kitchen would be closed at 3pm. We quickly ordered our food. We ordered clam chowder soup and two different grilled cheese sandwiches. The food tasted very local, fresh and authentic. We loved them very much!! The service was good. The meals were not very expensive. We would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who comes to salt spring island. We were eating at the bistro side of the restaurant. There was a bakery side as well. LOTS of customers came into the bakery and bought bread, muffins, cookies and other pasties. This place is amazing! Love it!!! read more

Fantastic breakfasts....this is our fav breakfast stop before hitting the Saturday Market in Ganges. It is always filled with locals and tourists. My favourite breakfast is the Blackstone Bennie (bacon, oven roasted tomatoes and hollandaise). It is served with yummy hash browns. My husband always has a ham & cheese omelette and he loves them. They also make amazing lunches - our favs include the veggie burger and any of their salads. Don't forget to get some baked goods too!! Ginger Cookies (think gingerbread), pesto twists (see photo), seed bread and their granola are our regular purchases. My only wish? That they would be open on Sunday too! read more

Please note that this review is based solely on customer service. The food was fresh and tasty but the experience I had with the service man was unacceptable. What happened is that I was clearing a table in order to sit at it and brought the mess to the counter. Instead of helping me, the guy with the large earrings looks at me and says: "the dishes go in the grey bucket over there." The utter lack of service is completely unacceptable considering I was helping him do his job by clearing the table. That being said I will likely go back as I did enjoy the baked goods. read more

This seems to be the busiest bakery on the island! The line was about five minutes long. Definitely not the place to go if you are in a rush. Bread was decent, not great. It would be a 3.5-4 stars for the beautiful patio and creative baked goods if it weren't for the customer service. I noticed that their water jugs were empty, so I brought them up to the counter to help them out. I was met with a sigh and no thank you. The girl working counter staff was also being kind of snarky to her coworkers, who all seemed pretty uncomfortable. It made my sourdough taste extra sour. read more

This place is fantastic! Tucked away from the main part of Ganges it has a lovely patio (that allows well behaved dogs to sit next to your table!) Service was friendly and quick. We enjoyed some Salt Spring Island beer and delicious sandwiches while sitting in the sun. A must visit if you're in the area. read more

Unfortunately no photos to share because we devoured everything so quickly. What a gem on Salt Spring. We dined here for lunch and had the pulled pork grilled cheese and my Mom had soup with bread. Everything was wholesome and tasty. So much so we decided to return for breakfast the following day. My Mom had the classic and enjoyed everything especially the fresh toast. I had the breakfast quesadilla which was delicious. We decided to bring some baked goods home. They are a busy bunch in the morning. We loaded up on Nanaimo bars, caramel bars, carrot cake and eclair. All were delightful although I will say the service at the quick service was not as friendly. Absolutely fantastic. I've been going to Barb's for years and love their baked goods. The cheese twists and croissants are fabulous. You'll battle a line over lunch but it'll be worth it. There is always lots of places to sit -- indoor and outdoor. Sit on the deck and enjoy the sunshine in the summer. Best spot for a quick lunch break in town. read more

Must stop while on the island. We ate breakfast there each morning. Everyone is so friendly and the locals hang out there. Hiousemade granola, pastries and breakfast sandwiches. We tried them all and loved them all. Also excellent smoothies. Lots of outdoor seating. Coffee was okay but we didn't mind because food was amazing. read more

So good. This place set the bar quite high since we visited it first. The chowder was amazing. The bread was fragrant, crisp, and soft. The salad was one of the best I had in my life. First visit to Salt Spring Island and decided to brave the crowds on a Tuesday afternoon (1:30PM) thinking this place must be something. Well, we almost walked out because the service was so poor & I hate to pay to be ignored. We sat at our table for 15 minutes before someone came by to ask "if we were going to order something for lunch." Perhaps random people come in and sit at tables without ordering, not sure what else the waiter thought we were there for. Anyway, after getting our order in finally, it was a struggle to get water, napkins, refills, etc. from whomever happened to be walking by. We never did find out until we had to ask for the bill who our waiter really was. The soup order was wrong and the grilled cheese sandwich was burned. Maybe we caught them on a bad day, but we won't be back and we were not impressed. read more

My whole experience on this sleepy little gem of an island has been almost magical, but the Classic Breakfast for which I chose salad greens and bacon as sides to my over-medium eggs was just over-the-top fantastic.
