The best ice cream around! Their three scoop deal is the best! We got the cherry, blueberry, and another berry flavor - so creamy and rich in flavor, not too milky. Service was super nice and was nice enough to help us out even a little after they closed. The shop has outdoor seating where you can view the cows roaming.
My vegan friend introduced me to Vanderwendes. Years ago, she made me stop here on the way to the beach just to introduce me to it. She never bought a cone BUT she had some serious memories from her dairy eating days. Ever since her recommendation, it's been about a decade and I still have to stop here every time we go into Rehobeth . it's located in rural areas near Milton Delaware, but it's on the way to the beach. There's always a long line and it's for a reason. I am in love with the huge scoops they gave of ice cream and cappuccino crunch is my favorite flavor. They have several locations, but this one might be the best because it's a great rest stop and it has outdoor seating areas with cute little picture opportunities with cows to enjoy your ice cream.
Good ice cream if you are traveling during the summer, long lines as everyone stops by here to get some frozen treats. Very large in size, wish they offer reasonable sizes. I had to throw away half of it, it is like 1000 calories per cone.
Stumbled on Vanderwende's on a road trip to Ocean Coty from DC. Completely unexpected and enjoyed our visit with the cows! Super clean, friendly staff, and the prefect snack break. Ice cream was creamy and delish - loved the seasonal offerings! Apple pie was by far the best; they didn't skimp on sprinkles (for me) and they gave generous samples!

I guess they took notice and adjusted the price accordingly over the years. Oh, no tax! This is Delaware! The ice cream portions are huge, so if you don't have a big appetite, stick with one scoop. The ice cream itself is really great, and the farm is absolutely beautiful. Vanderwende has worked on enhancing the scenery over the years, making it an even more pleasant place to visit. It's the perfect spot to take a break, use the restroom, and enjoy some amazing ice cream. If you're traveling from the DC metro area to the beaches, Vanderwende is well worth the stop.
Looks smaller outside. Nice place to stop and enjoy your ice cream treat. My hot fudge sundae was delicious! The hot fudge was so chocolaty and good. I had the chocolate chip cookie dough and Butter pecan ice creams with the hot fudge and wet walnuts topped with whipped cream and a cherry. Oh they also sell cheeses and had assorted cheese curds. Yummy!

Bottom Line: Homemade ice cream in a quaint store front with cows in view. My husband and I have driven past this cute ice cream storefront on multiple occasions and today was the day we finally stopped. On a cold March day we thoroughly enjoyed looking at the cows, admiring the quaint building and grounds including the farm in the distance and of course eating ice cream! We both got "one scoop" of ice cream which was a very generous portion that we could have shared. My husband had Cappacino Crunch which was a very firm, dense coffee flavored ice cream with chocolate crunchies in it. It tasted gourmet and almost like it had a swirl of honey in it. I had Peanut Butter Cookie Dough which was a vanilla base with peanut butter woven in and soft cookie dough chunks. Both flavors were creamy like a good ice cream should be but for whatever reason the Cappacino Crunch was firmer. We sat inside amongst the farmhouse decor and watched a steady of stream of people come and go with ice cream. You know an ice cream spot is good when there is a line on a cold winter day! The employees were friendly and helpful with recommendations and descriptions. My only regret is that I didn't bring my cooler to get some ice cream to go.

At 8 PM, there was a long line of people anxiously waiting to get a scoop (or two) of delicious ice cream. You can also grab fresh dairy products (different types of milk including chocolate, which I was eyeing) for a reasonable price! The ice cream here is quite cheap! And their scoops are HUGE. My friend and I shared a double scoop for $6 which was honestly like 2-3 scoops of each of the two flavors we got. I really liked the banana fudge nut ice cream flavor, which had a strong and pleasant banana flavor and a solid crunch from the walnuts. Our other ice cream flavor was chocolate, which is a classic. The cocoa was high quality and it reminded me my love for chocolate. The ice cream was super smooth and overall not too sweet. The outdoor seating area had a nice vibe with a tent and fairy lights. In the horizon, you can see a lot of cows roaming around and having a chill time. I would like to thank those cows for the wonderful milk they provide to make this super smooth, creamy, and delicious ice cream.

This was a fun stop on our way home from the beach going through Delaware on route 404. It is directly off the road. You don't have to navigate anywhere to find it. It's a perfect stop because you get a treat, they have a bathroom, and a playground where the cows come right next to you. The ice cream is delicious. If you are a real ice cream aficionado, this ice cream has a pull to it and you can tell it's high quality. I did feel dumb when I ordered 3 kiddie scoops and then my brother got a triple scoop to share with his family, getting the same thing for $3 less. Think through what you are going to get to get the best deal possible. All around, this is a great stop. Highly recommend this instead of a gas station on your way through Delaware. read more
This place is a must when traveling to the beach! It's our all-time favorite ice cream because it's such a fun experience as a whole. Eating the delicious ice cream outside under the pavilion while the kids play on the play set and the cows graze in the background is so epic to me. Easy to find parking, quick service, small gift shop, and to-go items. Overall, a wonderful experience! read more

Vanderwende's Ice Cream Shop is a great little roadside attraction. We stopped at Vanderwende's on our drive back home from vacation. We needed to get out and stretch our legs after driving for hours. This shop has a lot of parking available. The parking lot is gravel not paved just to let you know but that was no problem. There are cute cow themed sculptures and a cow photo opp board for the kids. There is a swing set and slide for kids. You can walk over to look at the cows in the fields. Everything here is neat and clean and tidy. Inside the shop is spacious and clean. There is indoor and outdoor seating available. There is one restroom and it is clean but there may be a line for the restroom so just be prepared. Now for the piece de la resistance - the ice cream. The ice cream is omg sooo good. The prices were very fair too. We shared a double scoop in a waffle cone. The serving size was enormous for only $6. We tried the Cookie Dough and Holy Cow. The Holy Cow ice cream was my choice and it was a perfect combo of vanilla and chocolate and candy bits mixed in. This place is a must stop if you are in the area! read more

This is my second time stopping by this shop mid-road trip and I gotta say, it's a must visit! You get to see the cows(from a distance), eat icecream, and take pictures with their cow statues & photo board where you stick your head into the cut out. There's also a restroom, which is great for those long car rides. I've only been in the winter, and it's surprising how busy the place is. I wonder what it's like in the summer. The $6 sundae is a massive amount of icecream. It's 2 scoops of whatever flavors you choose with whipped cream and a cherry. I arrived right before a rush, so for mine the whipped cream and cherry was forgotten, but it was quickly added when I asked. I shared mine with a friend since it's so much icecream. Definitely delicious though. I don't recommend the gummybears as toppings because the coldness of the icecream makes them really tough. That's probably at any icecream place so that's just a lesson learned on my part. The Oreo toppings were a yummy crunch at the bottom of my cup. The mocha almond fudge and apple pie flavors were good choices! They went well together. read more
Simply delicious. We were rushing back from the beach and were told we had to stop at Vanderwende's. I ordered a chocolate milkshake so I could enjoy it while we were driving. The ice creamerista put four huge scoops of chocolate ice cream into a large cup, added a dribble of milk, and shoved the cup into a mixing machine. The result was the creamiest, tastiest shake I can remember. It's a little weird because if I had ordered just the ice cream, it would have cost me lots more. Next time I'm passing through, I hope to have enough time to enjoy one of their sundaes and if I'm still in a hurry, it'll be another shake... no question. read more

I was told about this gem by a local and since I was in the area I decided to try them out and boy was it worth it ! Their ice is divine ! Vanderwende's is family owned Farm and creamery that makes small batch ice cream that is big on flavor and serving size. I got a single scoop cone Of cookies and cream for $5! Which was huge' it was really 3!! Big scoops I had to ask for a cup and spoon because I knew it was going to take awhile to eat it all! I also opted For the homemade waffle cone. My goodness their ice cream is so rich , creamy, smooth and Flavorful I did not want it to end ! I Ate my cone so slowly. The staff were patient and kind answered all my questions without being hasty, and tried my best to have my choice made by time it was my turn lol but that was an epic fail.. it was so many delectable flavors to choose from. They also Have local homemade baked goods, butter , milk and Other tasty treats. I will Most definitely stop by again and next time I Will be bring a few quarts back for my freezer! read more
Great stop on the way to Rehoboth or Ocean City!! We saw it when we were driving and had to stop because it looked so cute from the outside. The ice cream definitely did not disappoint!!! The strawberry was one of the best strawberry ice creams I've had!! They also have a bathroom for the public if you need a bathroom stop! Seating available both indoors and outdoors! Definitely recommend this place to everyone driving by!! You can even see real cows in the distance. read more

Absolutely delicious ice cream and shakes. I always stop here on the way back from the beach. Tons of great flavors to chose from, I love chocolate ice cream or mint chocolate shake. After you get your ice cream, enjoy eating outside while watching the cows. Farm fresh! Only qualm is that employees were not wearing masks. read more

Required stop on the way to and sometimes from the DE beaches! Amazing homemade ice cream from on site cows. One scoop is about huuuge! And can be more than one flavor. And the prices? From about 1984. You will regret missing this place! read more

Drove by Vanderwende's on a road trip to Rehobeth Beach and so glad we stopped. Delicious and fresh ice cream. You can see the cows grazing on the farm and it's a cute shop. I had a peanut butter fudge and the hubby a coconut ice cream. The coconut ice cream had lots of fresh coconut pieces inside. Highly recommend! read more
