Playground and pavilion
Karlee H.

Some of the best ice cream I've ever had. It was busy and hot but we got our ice cream fast. They have a little shop with seats inside and a pavilion with a wonderful playground outside overlooking the cows. Definitely a great roadside stop on the way to or from the beach!

Great price. One scoop is humongous!

We pass by this place every time on the way to the shore. A few years ago, the prices were so low that I was so happy and laughed. I guess they took notice and adjusted the price accordingly over the years. Oh, no tax! This is Delaware! The ice cream portions are huge, so if you don't have a big appetite, stick with one scoop. The ice cream itself is really great, and the farm is absolutely beautiful. Vanderwende has worked on enhancing the scenery over the years, making it an even more pleasant place to visit. It's the perfect spot to take a break, use the restroom, and enjoy some amazing ice cream. If you're traveling from the DC metro area to the beaches, Vanderwende is well worth the stop.

Looks smaller outside. Nice place to stop and enjoy your ice cream treat. My hot fudge sundae was delicious! The hot fudge was so chocolaty and good. I had the chocolate chip cookie dough and Butter pecan ice creams with the hot fudge and wet walnuts topped with whipped cream and a cherry. Oh they also sell cheeses and had assorted cheese curds. Yummy!

Farm fresh ice cream

Amazing onsite homemade ice cream. Great service and they are quick! This place is phenomenal! Their waffle co e is also homemade and taste amazing.

One scoop is enough for two to share.

Bottom Line: Homemade ice cream in a quaint store front with cows in view. My husband and I have driven past this cute ice cream storefront on multiple occasions and today was the day we finally stopped. On a cold March day we thoroughly enjoyed looking at the cows, admiring the quaint building and grounds including the farm in the distance and of course eating ice cream! We both got "one scoop" of ice cream which was a very generous portion that we could have shared. My husband had Cappacino Crunch which was a very firm, dense coffee flavored ice cream with chocolate crunchies in it. It tasted gourmet and almost like it had a swirl of honey in it. I had Peanut Butter Cookie Dough which was a vanilla base with peanut butter woven in and soft cookie dough chunks. Both flavors were creamy like a good ice cream should be but for whatever reason the Cappacino Crunch was firmer. We sat inside amongst the farmhouse decor and watched a steady of stream of people come and go with ice cream. You know an ice cream spot is good when there is a line on a cold winter day! The employees were friendly and helpful with recommendations and descriptions. My only regret is that I didn't bring my cooler to get some ice cream to go.

Had to stop for ice cream even though it was in the 20's outside. Just too good to miss on route to Ocean City. Also stocked up in $10 quarts and cinnamon rolls. Perfect bribes / gifts for dog Walker. Rule , never pass this place bye. Purchase 1 cone to share as it's huge! But added ice cream for when you get home so you don't regret 1 cone.

Double Scoop was so big!

At 8 PM, there was a long line of people anxiously waiting to get a scoop (or two) of delicious ice cream. You can also grab fresh dairy products (different types of milk including chocolate, which I was eyeing) for a reasonable price! The ice cream here is quite cheap! And their scoops are HUGE. My friend and I shared a double scoop for $6 which was honestly like 2-3 scoops of each of the two flavors we got. I really liked the banana fudge nut ice cream flavor, which had a strong and pleasant banana flavor and a solid crunch from the walnuts. Our other ice cream flavor was chocolate, which is a classic. The cocoa was high quality and it reminded me my love for chocolate. The ice cream was super smooth and overall not too sweet. The outdoor seating area had a nice vibe with a tent and fairy lights. In the horizon, you can see a lot of cows roaming around and having a chill time. I would like to thank those cows for the wonderful milk they provide to make this super smooth, creamy, and delicious ice cream.

We were at Bethany Beach and told that we must try this place on our way home. It's worth stopping for! This place is as neat as a pin. The service is fast and friendly. There are so many choices! The icre cream is creamy and delicious. The servings are generous. I had the maple walnut and cherry vanilla.

Vanderwende's Ice Cream Shop is a great little roadside attraction. We stopped at Vanderwende's on our drive back home from vacation. We needed to get out and stretch our legs after driving for hours. This shop has a lot of parking available. The parking lot is gravel not paved just to let you know but that was no problem. There are cute cow themed sculptures and a cow photo opp board for the kids. There is a swing set and slide for kids. You can walk over to look at the cows in the fields. Everything here is neat and clean and tidy. Inside the shop is spacious and clean. There is indoor and outdoor seating available. There is one restroom and it is clean but there may be a line for the restroom so just be prepared. Now for the piece de la resistance - the ice cream. The ice cream is omg sooo good. The prices were very fair too. We shared a double scoop in a waffle cone. The serving size was enormous for only $6. We tried the Cookie Dough and Holy Cow. The Holy Cow ice cream was my choice and it was a perfect combo of vanilla and chocolate and candy bits mixed in. This place is a must stop if you are in the area!

Price is so high! The ice cream was $10 for two scoops! The ice cream also tasted slightly "gummy". Not a lot of chocolate flavors.

I had Fine Fellows Creamery bookmarked for a few years now, well before I ever made any plans to…read morevisit Cape May. However, I always knew I would be back, and when I did I wanted to check this place out. I love ice cream, and while they can be a dime-a-dozen on the Jersey Shore, FFC stood out with their great Yelp reviews and the high visibility of its owners across social media. I had finished dinner and was looking for dessert, so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to stop in for some ice cream. FFC is located on Beach Ave, right in the heart of one of the main drags in Cape May (also, conveniently around the corner from where I was staying). The decor is super fun - the entire space is decked out in Pride decor, with colorful ice cream aesthetics on the walls and an overall upbeat vibe. FFC serves Bassetts Ice Cream, I'm not familiar with the brand but apparently their cream content is higher than average so how bad can that be? They have several flavors to choose from, as well as a number of toppings, sundae combinations, and milkshakes. I decided to go with Moose Tracks in a cone - I was able to choose the number of scoops I wanted (I got two), as well as the type of cone I wanted. The ice cream was really good - super creamy with lots of peanut butter cups and fudge; the moose were stampeding. Service was also great - I was taken care of promptly and everyone I interacted with was very friendly. Overall, this was a yes - with the plethora of ice cream spots in the area, FFC stands out by serving high quality product in a fun and inviting atmosphere. I would definitely return the next time I find myself in Cape May.
