The staff is very helpful here and were able to show me books in their inventory which met my very…read morespecific needs--bilingual infant/children books in traditional Chinese and pinyin. I left with two books, one of which was pleasantly interactive and contained both Chinese and English voice recording and an electronic memory match game.

Where there are hordes of Chinos, there is bound to be at least one SUP Bookstore. What may seem a…read morebit confusing at first, SUP (#1) is no question/greeting, but rather the abbreviation for Sino United Publish (#2). In Chinese, its "San Lian Shu Dian" or "Sam Leen Shu Deem" but if you didn't already know that, its likely the book selection isn't for you. I note this because virtually all of their books are published in Chinese. Lots of materials that were never given an English Cliff Notes version (aka Chinese Literature) will be on full display here. Whether its a New York Times Best Seller translated into Chinese or a How To book on anything, it's going to be available here. What do you do when you're not exactly Chinese literate? First of all, you'd probably have to figure out why you're there. Are you learning Chinese? Buying a gift for someone who does? Best ask an associate for some recommendations for a good read. And yes, ask one who speaks a reasonably good amount of English. The service has been good here, the crowds rarely flock here (#3) and the prices seem fair though a non-bookworm (aka me) has a hard time parting ways for any hardcover book for $50 unless its limited edition or includes an entire volume set. Audio books, here I come. _________ (#1) Personally, I like "Sup Bookstore(?)" much better. (#2) Publish..ers. Sometimes we like keep things shorter. I mean short. (#3) Does anyone read anymore?

This quaint, compact little toy shop in Steveston, not far from the wharf, is positively crammed…read morewith toys, games, puzzles, books, stuffed animals, costumes, and a whole lot more, mostly for the younger crowd (newborn to pre-teen for the most part, I'd say). Many of these toys are geared towards fostering creativity, imagination, and interactivity, which is something we need more of, in our increasingly screen-addicted society. We purchased a baby dragon stuffed animal for our baby son, Sir Galahad, but hopefully he'll befriend him, instead of slaying him!

Not as huge a selection of toys compared to Toys R Us, but they have a larger proportion of…read moreeducational toys. The video game section at Toys R Us is about the size of the entire Splash Toy Store. That gives you an idea how tiny this place is. They have a lot of plushies, puzzles and building block type toys. They don't have (m)any of the usual shelf-warmers: Transformers, G.I. Joe, Barbies, My Little Ponies, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, etc.... Splashes seems to focus more on quality toys with some component of discovery, problem-solving or learning. Some of the puzzles and building toys are quite pricy, however. They also seem to carry some stuffed animals and figurines from companies I've never heard of. During COVID, they are restricting how many people can enter the store at a given time. And, since the store is tiny, the lineup can be long. On our last visit, there were 5 families ahead of us, and we had to wait about 20-25 minutes! Worth a look, especially if you're looking for a unique toy for that special someone.
