The amount of selection here is awe-inspiring. I did not buy anything during my last two visits but the lady owner was very helpful to me and took time to explain some details about a potential airbrush that I wanted to buy. They have an incredible floor space and have even the high-end RC vehicles stocked! I love WW2 stuff and was pleased to see that basically one whole wall of the store was dedicated to WW2 tanks. I came in today to compare prices for a traxxas e-revo 2.0 which I thought would be cheaper online - found out that this place has it for the exact price as an online merchant. That is quite amazing since I find more stores have to hike up the price a little due to operating costs. I will happily support this store in my next purchases.

There is a lot to be said about hobby shops in Vancouver. For the most part, they are extremely difficult to navigate through and usually only fulfills the needs for a specific niche market. For example.. Model hobby shops are different from rc, or model stores are different from miniature stores. However, MagicBox seems to literally have everything! I stumbled on to this hobby store one day as I was driving around the area looking for breakfast. Being the nerd that I am.. I couldn't resist just passing by a hobby store I've never heard of. When I got inside I was awestruck. Model and miniature paints from all the brands I know, model kits from cars to ships to planes to the last dozen generation of Japanese rockets! They even carried scifi models such as the viper from battlestar and the serenity from firefly! I haven't even heard of those models before. To surprise me even further, they even carried limited editions of Gundam models. I have never had a more nerdgasmic morning. The prices here are a little more expensive than what I can find online, but not by much. I will definitely come back when I am simply looking for a new model to build or a place to browse around if I'm in the area.

One of the last hobby shops in town with a great selection of model kits, railway and RC. Owners are very nice and prices are fair.

Supplying many of these hobbies have been relegated to a few shelves in big-box craft shops like Michaels and Hobby Lobby in the US. Once I found Imperial Hobbies on Yelp during our vacation and it was near our hotel, I made my plans. I dropped my wife off for her spa day and this was going to be my spa day ;) The store is in a group of buildings almost at the end of the runway of Vancouver Airport (YVR). If you hang around, you'll see tons of airliners approaching for landings and roaring off on take offs. I just couldn't believe the selection of plastic models of planes, armor, cars and trucks along with complete selections of paint and finishing materials. It's these types of stores that I would spend hours in as a boy, but could only stare wide-eyed because I never had much money back then. But now as an adult with a job and disposable income, I probably would have gone broke if I didn't have to pack everything into my luggage to fly home. The favorable CAD$ to USD$ exchange rate also helped a lot in my shopping. I ended up with a couple of scale plastic model kits and a flying model rocket that are rare, out of production kits or very hard to find, even on-line.

However if you're more interested in say action figures or Star Wars collecting then disappointed you will be as what's on offer does seem more like an afterthought . Also their prices are quite a bit more than 'em chains , but tbh I'm just happy that brick and mortar stores like this still exists as they're a slowly dying breed .

This requirement was never disclosed at the time of purchase, even though I specifically asked about their return process. Instead, after the fact, they pointed to wording on the receipt that says "receipts" (plural) as if that somehow retroactively justifies refusing the return. That is not transparent policy--it's moving the goalposts. In standard retail practice, an itemized proof of purchase is sufficient to process a return. Most businesses understand that the purpose of a receipt requirement is simply to verify the transaction. When a customer provides clear documentation that does exactly that, refusing a return on a technicality is not policy--it's avoidance. I have been a professional shopper supporting small businesses in this city for eight years, and I have never encountered a store using this kind of tactic. It comes across as slimy, unprofessional, and frankly dishonest. What's especially disappointing is that I've spent thousands of dollars here over the years. Instead of honoring a straightforward $300 return with valid proof of purchase, they chose to damage a long-standing customer relationship. Because of this experience, they've lost a loyal customer. I will also be advising other shoppers in my community to avoid this store due to what appears to be bad-faith and poor business practices. I cannot recommend a business that treats customers this way.

We went in completely unsure of what we were looking for. As soon as we entered the store we were instantly greeted, we mentioned we were just browsing at first. After looking around for 15 min or so we decided we needed assistance. Within minutes we had someone asking us questions about our gaming preferences. After wasting about another 10 min of this poor gentleman's time we decided on two boardgames. We went home to try one of them out and we instantly loved it! Great customer service, owner seems like a very chill, relaxed guy and the staff was SO friendly! We will definitely be coming back soon. Side note: The prices of the boardgames were a bit more than you would pay on Amazon or at Walmart but the difference in price can not be compared due to the great customer service and they are a Vancouver local small business. Won't get this kind of assistance or attention to detail anywhere else I guarantee you!
