Supplying many of these hobbies have been relegated to a few shelves in big-box craft shops like Michaels and Hobby Lobby in the US. Once I found Imperial Hobbies on Yelp during our vacation and it was near our hotel, I made my plans. I dropped my wife off for her spa day and this was going to be my spa day ;) The store is in a group of buildings almost at the end of the runway of Vancouver Airport (YVR). If you hang around, you'll see tons of airliners approaching for landings and roaring off on take offs. I just couldn't believe the selection of plastic models of planes, armor, cars and trucks along with complete selections of paint and finishing materials. It's these types of stores that I would spend hours in as a boy, but could only stare wide-eyed because I never had much money back then. But now as an adult with a job and disposable income, I probably would have gone broke if I didn't have to pack everything into my luggage to fly home. The favorable CAD$ to USD$ exchange rate also helped a lot in my shopping. I ended up with a couple of scale plastic model kits and a flying model rocket that are rare, out of production kits or very hard to find, even on-line.

They have a decent collection of Magic Cards, and Yugioh Cards as well for those Table Top geeks! They also have a bunch of D&D products and a large selection of board games. They have tables and chairs for geeks to sit and chill and play a game after purchasing the product. Or to read a comic! The store is literally a place to hang and chill! Last week a 15 minute decal job took almost an hour because he was too busy recording people on his phone to pay attention to our order. Today I bought any and all stock they had of a certain product, paid for it and was about to leave when I remembered I needed something else and sure enough the older Asian woman behind the counter pulls out her phone and starts recording me! They even have a clearance section which included some "hurt" boxes that were still sealed. You could grab a good bargain there! I was looking for level counters for a game I already owned and the staff member knew the game and although they didn't have counters, he suggested I use D10s (dice). He then showed me my options at the counter (small things were in a display case). In the front window there was a large calendar displaying all the regular and special events happening that month. They have regular gaming nights Sunday (any games), as well as hosting other games-specific nights (such as for Magic: The Gathering).
