The instructor Kyle at the Vancouver location was very thorough, full of enthusiasm, encouraged questions and made the class hands on participation fun. The course was at a good pace and I did learn lots and well prepared for the course exam. I was in the full two day class and some participants joined in on day two or left after day one. I can see this hard on people joining in on day two. I understood the course is CSA standard and it was accepted by the government body that required Standard First Aid as a prerequisite for the government course. I was looking for a Red Cross course but they don't run as frequently or convenient locations as this one. read more

I had previously rated 5 stars, but changed it to 1 after learning that my advanced first aid is NOT recognized by Work BC, even though they specifically list themselves as a trusted partner of Work BC on their website, alongside the Work BC Logo. I would never have spent money on a provider that employers do not recognize; I specifically spent more money and an additional day of my time to increase my chances of getting hired, and now I have to repay a whole new certification as this is not even recognized as the most basic one; it is a worthless piece of paper in terms of employment. Only choose if you just want the knowledge for yourself and do not see it as a job certification. read more

My son needed a recert for lifeguarding. The course offered is NOT recognized as a legit course equivalent to heart and stroke or red cross! Be very careful! I have asked for a full refund, no response yet. My son had to retake his CPR with heart and stroke. This is a money grab! read more

Beware, certificates are issued from Saint Mark James Training. If you require certification from Heart and Stroke, Red Cross or St John Ambulance, this isn't the place to come because your certificate will not be accepted. My teen now has to repeat her standard first aid with St John as a prerequisite for National Lifeguard, a waste of 2 days and course fee. read more

I took the emergency first aid and CPR (HCP) last week with Connor. ( Sorry if i spelt your name incorrectly :-) ). This was the first class i have taken in 30 years of taking CPR classess that we were actually told what to expect during emergency first aid and CPR. Expect breaking ribs, expect vomiting, expect bystanders not to help, expect so many things. He gave a real perspective on what you will go through as a First Aider. very unprofessional and misleading staff. I contacted them asking about CPR level BLS and they told me that it is the same as CPR level C. So I went ahead and took the course with them. But when I presented the certification to my employer, she told me that it is not as same as CPR level BLS and that my certificate is not valid. I called Vancouver First Aid to ask for the right certification, and they told me that they could upgrade my certificate to CPR level BLS if pay additional fees. I agreed to it but I insisted that my certificate must say CPR level BLS on it. That is when they told me that they do not provide CPR level BLS. However, they denied the fact that they told me CPR level BLS is the same as CPR level C. Also, when I took the first aid course with them, I find it very difficult to gain the necessary skills to use in real-life situations because they provide poor instructions, and they tell you the answers to the questions that are coming on the test so you do not fail the test. But they do not care about preparing you for the practical use of course. read more

Had to call and find out what was happening, they ended up cancelling the class. I booked a N95 fit test at Vancouver First Aid ltd. Newton location. There was a line up of people waiting no employee showed up to administer the test. When I called the company the receptionist kept me on the line while making excuses about the course being cancelled. None of the people waiting at the empty facility received any such notification. Many of us commuted to Newton and took time out off to get this done. Extremely unprofessional business. read more

I've been here twice: first to take my CPR-Health Care Provider & AED course for $75, and then a year later (the certification itself is valid for 3 years, but my nursing program requires that I recertify every year) to get recertified for $50. The prices are on the more affordable side compared to other places, but the facility itself is not glamorous. However, it gets the job done! I'm also not sure if this place is really car friendly, its hard to find street parking thats 2hr+ in that area. However, theres a #25 bus stop right across the street. Being stuck for 4-6 hours going over what feels like common sense to me is kind of mentally draining, and you have to kneel a lot (they have knee pads which barely help at all) which is really my only complaint. Some of the dummies need to be replaced as well. The instructors are nice and informative! This place is also super hard to spot. Basically, look for the car shop/Subway on the corner. It's the door right next to it. Bring something to snack on as you do sometimes get short breaks. read more

First time attending a recertification class for First Aid / CPR and it was great. The instructor (Julianne) was knowledgeable and a good communicator. I was able to understand what was expected from me and what to expect from the course during the first 10 min. The room and equipment were adequate considering these courses run non-stop. Perhaps the online registration system could provide some of the information that the instructor gave in the beginning (expectations, schedule, etc) so one can better prepare for the rest of the working day. read more

It was part of my 2017 resolution list to take a CPR course. This was recommended to me by a friend of mine who came here to get her updated CPR course. I came here cause I made it part of my New Years resolution to learn emergency first aid. I also wanted to update my resume with this certification. Also working as a book keeper in an area that is known for it's medical emergencies it's good to know. Another part of my New Years resolution is to update my earthquake kit. I have all the medical supplies in my kit, however, I need the education for myself and others in case of a big one. The reality is that in a big one we are in it for ourselves as help will be far and few between. My biggest fear is earthquake, therefore, the more prepared I am the less anxious I may feel. Be prepared not scared. The address on my registration was wrong and led me to an abandoned electronics shop. It wasn't until I called that I got the correct address. Many were in the same boat. The classroom was cold so paying attention was a little difficult for me fir a bit. Thankfully I had my text book. They did offer the option of using the emergency blankets for warmth. My body was filling yucky. The weekend class is a mix of levels with dismissal cut offs along the way. It was hard to stay awake on a weekend, therefore, I advise taking notes as the instructor is talking even though it's covered in the book. MacDonald's was having their free coffee promotion week so that helped me keep awake. The instructor was pleasant and had a charming personality. My only real issue was that we didn't really care about actually answering questions even though she asked if we had any. She was more concerned about getting to the finish line than teaching. It is a fast, however, everything is in the provided textbook. Near the end even though there was lots of time she speed drilled the first aid section. I took the first aid and CPR course which was an all day course for $84. Most of what was covered I knew from when I took a basic class in high school but there was a lot of new information that was beneficial that I take for granted in daily life like. The class was fun cause I was lucky enough to be surrounded by fun light hearted people. They appreciated my zombie disaster jokes. It also helped absorb the information through humour. You get two breaks, however, the instructor forgot the second break, therefore, the lAst third of the class was a blur due to blood sugar low. It wasn't until I spoke up that I forced the class to have a bathroom and snack break. There was a lot covered that we needed to absorb. The test itself was super easy out of 30. I scored with a 25 out of 30. read more

Feeling more like a kindergartener than an adult, I sat through one very long day at this location to update my CPR course with two other work mates. I was completely disappointed by my CPR recertification class with Vancouver First Aid. I loved recertifying my CPR because classes are often fun and informative. I had a negative learning experience with their instructor Nicola. She did not bother to learn the name of her students and referred to us as "recerts"; her expectation is that "recerts" should know all of the answers and berated me throughout class with questions. I did my best but my nonverbal cues were clearly uncomfortable with her teaching style. Nicola made me feel bullied, attacked and stupid. When she announced lunch at 11:30, I left the class and didn't look back because I could not stand to be bullied by an instructor for another 5 hours. I have never been so disrespected or ridiculed by an instructor. It is also not mentioned in the course description that the recertification course is a MIXED class which essentially means you are to learn and sit through a full day for parts of a course that are not applicable to you. I felt completely disrespected and bullied throughout my time in class. I emailed Info@vancouverfirstaid.ca asking for a $50.00 refund for an incomplete class in which I was made to feel like a worthless student and received a response from George that because Nicola is a senior instructor and the other students "had a good time", he would not be offering me a refund and offered that I can take a different class with a different instructor. To be clear, I would never take any course with Vancouver First Aid again after this experience. The lack of action demonstrates a complete disregard to an individual/student's right to a safe and respectful learning environment. It supports a bullying mentality that overrides an individual's negative experience for the sake of "other students who had a good class." Furthermore, a senior instructor should be able to modify their teaching style accordingly and recognize that not all students will learn or receive information in the same way. A positive classroom environment requires a respectful instructor and an eager student. I did my best to be an eager student and participated throughout class and answered to the best of my ability. Nicola made me feel stupid for not knowing answers to her questions and continued to berate me, with a lack of acknowledgement of my embarrassment and discomfort. Whether a student is new or seasoned to a subject, no person should ever be made to feel stupid for not knowing the answer. Pay the extra $10 or so at SkillStat or Link2Life or Heart and Stroke for a positive BLS/recertifying learning experience; all of my encounters with the instructors at the mentioned establishments have always been fun and informative. I registered with Van First Aid because i thought all recertification across Vancouver would hold the same standard, however I was mistaken and instead made to feel like an idiot. I doubt I will get my refund but I hope this review makes future students think twice about registering for a course with this company. read more

Class was supposed to start 75 minutes ago and we are still waiting out here in the pouring rain. I took a day off work for this and now I'm sitting here with 4 others. When we called the first time, the lady said that the instructor was running late. The second time we called, they said they couldn't get a hold of the instructor... Now we are just waiting in the cold rain. Stay away. Pay the extra $10 for somewhere else. read more

As another review stated do not a book any sessions with this company, absolutely terrible and unprofessional service. Showed up for a class at 9am the instructor never came. Phoned the company they said the session was not cancelled and they would phone me back after contacting the instructor. After waiting for a response I phoned back again and now finally they realized the class was cancelled, but failed to send us an email or anything notifying us of this in advance. Took a day off work and wasted an entire hour waiting outside with several other people for nothing. Complete waste of time and terrible company. read more

This was my first time taking a first aid course and David, the instructor, made class really enjoyable. Although the material can be basic and dry at times, he makes it fun by throwing in jokes and playing videos/music (when applicable)! It's easy to tell that he's very passionate about first aid and genuinely wants to teach this material. Short breaks are given, so it's a short walk to McDonald's or even Subway just downstairs if you need sustenance. I will definitely return when I have to do my recert. I set up an infant CPR session with Vancouver First aid, they came to my house to do the session, and the price was extremely reasonable. The woman (Nicola) was great, she kept things practical, simple to learn and straight to the point by having us do lots of hands on practice. i would highly recommend this service to anyone looking for infant CPR read more

Took my course at this training facility, well on both days the instructor literally showed up 3 mins to the start of the course which is pretty bad, considering people were waiting outside in the rain. Also she showed up in skin tight spandex workout gear, and on the 2nd day returned wearing the exact same outfit, so unprofessional. Also because the instructor showed up so late to class the room was absolutely freezing and we all had to wear our jackets till well after lunch hour. We were told the training room would be open 30 mins prior to our course start. They mix all the different levels so you could spend a whole day learning something to find out it doesn't apply to you at all and your exam is completely different. We were also told when we not be getting our books during our whole weekend session as they were on back order, which made learning difficult. Some of the information was not covered in class and was only in the books so there was no way to know the answers to the final exam and prepare properly. The instructor is more concerned about getting out early and the program about making there money instead of providing a good service! They do have small pads to put under your knees when learning cpr on the dummies but it does not help alot with the super hard floors! read more
