The instructor clearly didn't want to be there and rushed us all through the class, to the point that we finished hours early. In every class I've taken in the past, even though it's a repeat, I always leave feeling like I learned at least one new thing. I left this class having learned nothing. In fact, I felt lost at times. There were others in the class with less experience than me who were clearly completely lost. If I got nothing out of the class, I can't imagine how they felt. Sure, we all got our certificate, but if you learn nothing, then what's the point? What added to the confusion was the fact that it was a huge group of people, all taking different levels of the course. It caused huge confusion and no one really knew what was going on. To add to that issue, there were clearly people in the class who should not have been there due to a lack of knowledge & experience. Not only did the instructor rush us, but she was also giving incorrect info at times. I don't care what you do in your daily work life, I came to learn the actual correct way to do things. The facility itself is not nice either. There are hardwood floors, which make crawling around and doing activities on the floor very painful after a while. We were grudgingly (seriously, the instructor told us that people who use mats are losers) offered mats, but when I saw how old and dirty they were, I chose pain instead. The area to work in was very small and the class was way over-crowded. We were all bumping in to each other. There's one bathroom for about 20 people. Yep. The cost of the courses here are slightly higher than in other places and they still don't include the cost of the book/manual for the course. You have to pay extra for that. Overall, I wouldn't take a course with these people again.

She used a variety of methods to help us learn, integrate, and practice the materials. She was fun and funny. The space is lovely, but it was very cold, so dress warmly! Otherwise, everything was great and I highly recommend taking EFA-C with Bre. She was able to answer all of our questions and I feel confident about being able to apply what we learned.

Like most women, I've wasted lots of time and money looking everywhere for just the right face and body products, only to be disappointed time and time again. That's when I thought I should just make my own, according to my own specifications. I've looked everywhere for soap and lotion making classes, and none of them appealed to me as much as Rene's because of her high standards of using organic and natural ingredients. After the first class, i was hooked. Why? My own vanity. Rene is the poster child for good skin. She has no makeup on and her skin is so smooth and blemish free! She is her own walking testimonial to the products she creates. When I heard how old Rene is, I knew I had to learn from her as much as possible because she looks over 15 years younger. My favourite products I've learned to make at Soap Making School so far are soaps (of course), butters, lotions, makeup remover, and shampoo. I read a lot about ingredients but Rene has encyclopedic knowledge about numerous ingredients that surpass anyone I've ever met. Needless to say, I've learned a lot from her. In class she is generous, patient, and so kind and sweet even when students mess things up. Even if you can't take her class just yet, I'd recommend signing up for her free newsletters. They are a wealth of information. If you are lucky enough to have the time to take a class, I'd recommend signing up early since I've seen how quickly some of Rene's classes fill up. Rene is one woman soap making empire. Besides all the selfish reasons I signed up for her classes, it's a treat to support small ethically-run businesses.

Classes are small, very hands on and easy to follow. During the 3 hour class we learned about the soap making process, how industry processes soap we see at the grocery stores. By the end of this class, we were able to create a customized 2 pound loaf to take home.
