Having delivered other (non-First Aid) certification courses myself, I was very impressed with how he is able to go over a huge amount of material in a short period while keeping everyone in the course interested, engaged and entertained. Our group had a wide range of experience, both with first aid as well as general knowledge of the backcountry, but Kieran managed to ensure everyone was catered to and came away with a wealth of new skills. The attention to detail in not only setting up the scenario's but bringing everyone on-board to treat them seriously results in a fantastic learning experience. I highly recommend taking any course with Kieran and look forward to signing up to the advanced WFA.

They have padded floors in the classroom which after a couple days your knees will thank you for!! You will get continuous support inside and outside of the classroom and even have the option to come in after your course is complete for refreshers. Would never recommend nor attend a TraumaTech class even if it was given for free!

You search the type of class you want and pick the location and date from what they have available. My class was supposed to be two days, but out of the 5 people that showed up only 2 of us were doing standard. So the teacher asked if we would be willing to stay late and finish it all up in one day. I mean of course! It was great to get it over and saved my Sunday. The teacher, Rita, was funny so learning the material was enjoyable! I definitely felt prepared for the test at the end. Definitely recommend if your looking to take a first aid class for the first time or update your first aid skills.

They are flexible with timing changes and vacation requests. It is only open for Mon, Wed, Fri with Friday being the most empty if you want your child to have more teacher time. I have grade 9 and grade 2 boys who attend the reading program. For the grade 2, with only 6 months of time in Canada and only 5 months at Kumon (and elementary), he can read simple novels as fast as his Japanese. The highschooler has progressed from lack of confidence in ELL1 to challenging himself to get out of ELL by next year. I believe she cares quite deeply about the education of each student, and in proxy that is how she chooses and leads her staff.

This is a review for the Japanese General Level 1 language course…read more Currently halfway through the course (week 4) but so far, the course has been amazing! Class size maxes out at 10 people so classes are intimate and you get to know your fellow classmates. Apparently the course still runs if minimum 2 people are registered in the course! Price remains the same but it's considered semi-private lessons and are 1.5 hours long. If 3 or more people register, it goes back to being 2 hours long. Yoshiko, our instructor, is fabulous, always making sure we understand before moving on to the next part of the lesson. Classes are a blend of conversational and writing, 60/40 mix. For the Japanese General courses, they cover two chapters of GENKI I textbook (textbook has 12 chapters, good for the first 6 levels of Japanese at IH!). By the end of level 1, we are suppose to know hiragana, katakana and also be introduced to kanji! It's no cakewalk, do expect to put in some effort but it's totally worth it! I've taken many language courses in high school, undergrad and continuing ed (e.g. french, mandarin, latin) but this course is my favorite hands down! Because the course is during November/December session, it is only 7 weeks long instead of the regular 8 weeks (due to Christmas break). Regardless, 2 chapters are still going to be covered! Price is reasonable, $195+tax and textbook if you don't have your own copy (+ $75). In regards to the admin staff, I have had no problems with them. Course registration was painless, and they were able to provide me with an official invoice/receipt for work purposes. Overall I am extremely happy with the quality of language instruction and small intimate class sizes. It's also located at a convenient location downtown, close to Stadium-Chinatown skytrain station. That being said, I'm definitely continuing on to Level 2 in the new year =D

The entire operation was pretty smooth from registration through to the end of the course. Registration online is easy. However, I would recommend that they differentiate International House Vancouver (ihvancouver.com) offering more than just language training -- homestays, volunteering, work experience, etc. from the modern languages area (languages-vancouver.com). Both are based out of the same office, but becomes confusing for those looking for just one or the other. A quick assessment test over the phone pretty much determines which level you would be appropriate for. The curricula are set up so that you can progress at your own pace since it is a rolling schedule. The classes themselves are small with (based on my observation) student-teacher ratios no more than 15:1. This is essential to getting enough attention from the teacher especially in the critical level 1 classes where you're learning the foundations of a language. Classes can be as small as 3 but I've never seen classes larger than 15. The instructors (which really make up the majority of your experience with the school) are great. I've only ever had one but the quality of instruction is on par with what you'd experience at a continuing ed course at a local college or university. The program also offers instructor feedback which indicates they take their quality of instruction seriously. I'm already signed up for level 2 but I encourage anyone looking to learn or improve their language skills to give IH a good hard look. They provide solid teaching & structured learning for good value vs. other institutions in the city.

There are similar courses out there for a much better price, and most of the time, the instructors will be the same - btw, one of the few things that I liked about CapilanoU. Do not expect to have much assistance from their staff. They don't keep their word at all! I confess that I got a lot disappointed, maybe because I was expecting too much from this college - considering the huge amount of $ and time invested. if I could turn back time, I'd have chosen another university for sure!

My primary review is for the film program. I came here based on the reputation at the time of the course being better than some in the city (you know who you are). For what you paid and what the course had to offer seemed weak. The course was divided into sectionals: Lighting and camera, script writing, editing, AC, history of film, and business of film. Some teachers in the course had experience in the industry that were relevant and had a lot to offer while others were out dated. Please note that my experience compared to the current course may have changed as well as the teachers, however, I know that most of these are still in existence 'cause I have some of my friends nieces currently enrolled. Through conversation with them I feel that situations have not changed. Of course names will not be mentioned as that is irrelevant to the review. Editing: Bi-polar teacher that was supportive one moment and screaming at your the next for no reason. Not enough computers to go around to encourage or allow students to work on projects. History of film: You watch movies all day, something that I can do on my own for free on Netflix. Teacher was sexiest. Script Supervising: One of the most valued courses for me. I have an eye for mistakes and love the technical side of things in regards to continuity. Aside from a PA on major productions, for independent movies I did a lot of script supervising. Teacher was warm, knowledgeable and she made things make sense. Camera & Lighting: Learned some basics, however, with new lenses, editing and lighting this soon became an outdated course. The basics still hold value today. Business of Film: Teacher had an awesome sense of dark sarcasm and humor, we got along great. After learning about the business, financial numbers seen very interesting to you. I found that the course had way too many fresh out of high school kids who either didn't know what they wanted, thought they could be the next Lucas, still had some high school tendencies. I was a bit older than them and established myself a bit more to mature and grow before finding my way. There weren't enough people that were my age or slightly adult who took the course as seriously as they should. This partially ruined my learning experience. I was 4 years older than most of the students and still too young for the few adults. Way too much drama and high school attitude that most of my classmates carried through in their adult life. Because of this I didn't get a lot out of this during the projects as I felt were owed to me. This is a flaw with the admissions portion as mentioned before, not the students themselves. As mentioned, even if you have a demo tape. If you had the money or a scholarship, you were in. No real filtering of students who would actually elevate or make the course.
