We were so excited to work with Robert and his crew. They were supposed to take the top off of a crumbling stone fireplace for us, fix a corner of a retaining wall, resurface some stone walkways and replace missing rocks, and they were to clean up weeds and overgrowth near a fence and repair a crumbled stone wall. Initially, things seemed to be going well. Robert communicated well, had a few issues with staffing, but generally was pretty reliable. We noticed some issues with jobs as he was doing them, such as not replacing missing rocks in the walkway, or not refinishing the inside of the rock fireplace/cleaning it up so we could actually use it. When he was working on the last project, we sent an invoice saying all the work was completed. Clearly the wall isn't completed and there is debris that needs to be hauled away. I hadn't had any major issues with Robert at this point, so I paid the bill, believing he would complete the jobs. Instead he ghosted me. I paid a ton of money and am left with projects that aren't finished, and a bunch of dirt I have to haul away. read more

We had these guys install a new chimney damper a couple years ago. The fire place never worked well and smoked up the house so we got a gas fireplace installed. Our FP install guys asked who the heck installed our damper because they put a damper on the top of the chimney that fit only a quarter of the opening. They did not add a metal cover for the rest that was open to free air! I am livid! Stay far far away from these guys!! read more

Was looking to get our gas fireplace cleaned as it was starting to smell "dusty" (apparently this should be done annually) so called this company to schedule an appointment. They were booked several weeks out. Fine. I get it, that time of year, probably short staffed, etc. After I booked the appointment, I actually called again to verify that the owner (I'm assuming) was aware that this was a GAS fireplace. He assured me that he services gas fireplaces. Appointment day finally comes which I'm excited for because it's getting chilly outside and haven't been using the fireplace due to the dusty odor. They contact me to reschedule for the next day. Fine. That happens. So today the service guy shows up an hour late without calling. He takes one look at our fireplace and says, "we don't service gas fireplaces," and leaves. I called the owner, no answer, left a message and haven't heard from him. This company is a fraud - do not even deserve the 1 star that Yelp requires. It is a father-son crew and the son is learning bad values. The chimney caps they "installed" were too large and not secured. The person I hired to re-do their "work" showed me their choice of cap was too large, thought they should have gone back to their shop to get proper size (this is after Vancouver Chimney had been on my roof for a previous home inspection and should have known what size was required). They simply did not have enough integrity to do the right thing and winged it at my expense. The tops, because they weren't the right size, were not actually attached at all, just placed on top of the chimney, with a 1" to 1 1/2" gap between the screw and the masonry (see photo). Additionally, the caps were pot metal, and were replaced - properly by the new person - with steel caps. Vancouver Chimney charged me $161 for each of them, which cost him $47 each. Nothing like a 300% mark-up to brighten your day. Flashing was improperly installed and caulking was oozing out around the joint, creating large gaps in between the roof tile and the flashing, thus allowing the leakage that he was hired to repair to continue. For this, I was charged $1,300. I called numerous times, was treated rudely (and forgetfully) by the secretary/wife, and I had to re-explain why I was calling every time. I hired someone else to come clean up the mess they made and that cost another $1,300 to get it done properly. I know all this without climbing up on the roof because the second chimney repair person took pictures to show me these deficiencies. I notice a previous review received a Vancouver Chimney response, saying if the reviewer called him, he'd fix it for free. And WHEN would they ever return a phone call????? read more

I recently purchased a home in Portland, a income property/vacation spot. I had my property manager hire a company to clean the chimney and inspect it to do any minor repairs needed for the chimney to be safe to use. I feel the first companies I had come out took advantage of the fact that I wasn't there and where basically telling me that the whole chimney was in horrible shape and that I needed to retro fit a new chimney in the existing one etc. We're talking over $5K in work. They didn't know that I'm a General Contractor in Southern California and could see in the many pictures they had sent me that the chimney was no where near in the shape they had mention. After calling and emailing a handful of new chimney companies. Robert responded quickly and professionally. After inspecting it. He told me what I was expecting. The chimney was actually in good shape and just need some minor repairs to be safe and functional. The company was and is great. They were at the job site the day they said and on time even during the pandemic and tested the chimney with my tenants to make sure everything was functioning properly. I highly recommend them to everyone with a chimney need. I could only pick three items (Professionalism, Responsiveness and Value) but I would add Punctuality as well. read more

Beware- I've used these guys for the last three years for cleaning. each year They swore that the chimney cap was screwed on and that they replaced the screws. I had my roofer go up and look at the chimney a few weeks ago - THEY NEVER PUT ANY SCREWS IN IT AT ALL EVER - NO HOLES NOTHING!!! And the price has been going UP & UP First year $100 Second year $150 third year $200- for the exact same service. read more

Would definitely NOT recommend this company. Had them come out to "fix" my chimney about 7-years ago and nothing was resolved. They initiated a call back in March of this year to come do a chimney cleaning. I told them that I have not used the fireplace because it still doesn't draw. Their employee, Robert, came out to do an assessment and recognized right away that the initial "fix" was not done properly and stated that he would order what was needed and their office would schedule a time to come make it right and that I could just pay an inspection invoice upon receiving service. One week later I did receive a call from the office to let me know they were waiting on something that was back-ordered, but they would call as soon as it arrived. Called after two months, never received a call back. Got a call from their office in June stating that my invoice was past due and they didn't want to have to send me to collections. Called the office and left message. Received call from the owner acknowledging that he hadn't really been involved in the chimney side of the business and that he had "too many chiefs and not enough indians" and that they never should have called to leave the nasty message. He went ahead and scheduled me for service on June 26th and of course nobody ever showed up. Ironically, Robert (their one good employee) called me the same day to follow up and got to hear my completely disgusted experience with the company he works for. Apparently it is all too common for him to get these complaints. This business is rediculous to say the least and they still haven't called me back to discuss the invoice for the inspection fee. Tried going to their office, in good faith, but the doors are locked and the adjoining business says they are seldom there and they don't open their office to their customers. Worst customer service I have ever had. They cleaned our chimney on 9/18/2015. When the house filled with smoke on 11/11/2015 we checked to see why? It had never been cleaned. We asked them to come back and clean the chimney he said he would have to charge us again and that we burned sappy wet wood. Hard to believe since the wood is mostly old growth fir and has been in a barn for years!,,,, After talking to a few people we have also heard others who were not satisfied with their service. read more

I've never written a review of any business but feel compelled to do so regarding this company. They gave me an extremely high bid to do some minor repair work on my brick mailbox but due to the fact I was in a hurry to have it done I agreed to the price. When two nice young men showed up to do the work they stated they didn't understand the work involved replacing a few bricks and that they didn't have them with them. When they finished the work they could do I told them I was not comfortable giving them my Visa number until the work was completed. They said they understood and would have their office call me. After a phone call from the office the person stated she didn't understand what needed to be done despite the fact I had provided a photo to her before her bid. After it was pointed out the two employees were here for less than two hours and the price was $500.00 she stated they would come back and complete the work in accordance with my understanding of what was included in the bid. Based on her CLEAR REPRESENTATION that the additional work would be completed as part of the $500.00 bid I gave her my Visa number. The total bid price plus taxes was charged to my VISA that day. The next day the person called again and said they would not be doing the rest of the work-DESPITE HER CLEAR REPRESENTATION THAT IT WOULD BE DONE FOR THE ORIGINAL BID PRICE. THIS COMPANY SHOULD NOT BE TRUSTED. THEY ARE OVERPRICED AND DO NOT LIVE UP TO THEIR WORD. AVOID DOING BUSINESS WITH THEM IF YOU'RE SMART. read more
