Compared to other quotes, Van Briggle was the most thorough and they were competitively priced, as well. They were available within a reasonable time frame and they finished the job on time, even when extra work needed to be done to shore up the subfloor. And, I've never had a company be able to provide so many samples or offer to stain the floor with multiple swatches so that we could get exactly what we wanted. They were so patient and responsive. If Yelp had 6 stars, I'd give them 6. I have very expensive, American Cherry floors that were getting all dinged up and needed to be refinished. The crew was great. They carefully moved all the furniture and started sanding the floor to a super smooth finish. All with hardly any dust in the air. They used a dust containment system. They put several layers of the polyurethane finish. My floors turned out beautifully. It's the single most impactful home improvement project I've made. Now my floors are more resistant to knicks and dings. Even 9 months later my floors look like they were just refinished. The crew was so careful to clean off all my counters and cupboards and replace my furniture. I highly recommend them. read more

They did hardwood floors for us 5 years ago for a reasonable price and the floors still look brand new in spite of a young boy racing around the house on tricycle, scooter, or anything else with wheels that is permitted inside. So their workmanship is fantastic and they were very easy to work with in deciding what product to use and working around some constraints we had. When I wanted 2 other rooms in the house done recently, one with the same hardwood, the other with Gemcore, the job was 'too small' for them, but their customer service orientation still shown through! I'm so glad I picked Van Briggle to do my hardwood floor. I bought a house that was fully carpeted, but I knew there was a red oak hardwood floor underneath. I wanted to have the carpet removed and the hardwood refinished. Bill from Van Briggle Floors came out to give an estimate. His knowledge and experience were so apparent that I knew immediately that I wanted them for the job. On the surface, their prices were a tad bit higher than some other places, but I could already tell they weren't going to nickel-and-dime me to death, which others seemed to be gearing up to do. I scheduled to have the work done, and the Friday before, Bill had his guy come out to get a head start on pulling up the old carpet. A few hours in and I got call from Bob, the owner, who had come out to my property because the crew had found an issue. The living room was about 80% covered with animal urine stains. The hallway was pretty much 100% stained. Urine stains cannot be sanded out. And thus the adventure began. Every step of the way, I was glad to be working with Van Briggle Floors. I decided to get a new hardwood floor (I really wanted hardwood!). They have a great showroom! I spent quite some time there with Bill and Bob, discussing various options. Along the way, the crew discovered some moisture in the subfloor. They also discovered live termites, just two weeks after fumigation and subterranean termite treatment. They replaced twelve floorboards. There were other surprises, with a missing joist and questionable support for the subfloor -- all taken care of in some way by Van Briggle Floors. Every time the crew discovered something questionable, they would call Bob (the owner). And then Bob would call me over and we'd discuss how best to proceed. Bill was on site every day and made sure things were going smoothly in general. The process never slowed or stalled, even though there were surprises and changes along the way. With all the changes and surprises, a less scrupulous or just sloppy company could have put the screws to me each time. Not only did I feel well taken care of by Van Briggle Floors, I think they must have absorbed a bit of the unexpected cost. Yes, they charged for the subfloor work, but I know how much general contractors can charge, and it was much less. This is all not to mention that the end result looks great. All I can say is WOW! Van Briggle flooring so completely exceeded my expectations. The hardwood floors they installed, repaired, and refinished are far more beautiful than I ever thought they could be. The quality of their workmanship and service is just extraordinary, far far beyond the typical experience in my 20+ years of home ownership. Bob VB came out to estimate the work and was just great to work with. He's old school, he's not a slick, polished salesperson. He's the real deal and he really knows hardwood floors. So, I figured that for the best outcome, I really needed to listen to the advice he was giving me. And I did and he was absolutely right about what needed to be done. Bob's estimate for the work was spot on and we would have stayed within the original estimate had i not increased the scope. In every case, Bob explained very clearly the cost for everything so that I knew exactly what I was paying for and what any additional charges might arise. In the end, there was one additional charge that I was aware might crop up but it was just a fraction of a percent of the original estimate. Bob also did a fantastic job of managing expectations about scheduling, dust, possible issues that would come up (that in fact didn't) and exactly how the floor would look when finished, what squeaks in the floor he could and couldn't fix. As a result, there were no conflicts whatsoever, the job ran smoothly, on time and on budget. Regarding scheduling: the job took exactly as long as Bob said it would. And, they actually moved up the dates so the whole job was completed ahead of schedule. Dust: The dust created by the sanding/buffing process was actually negligible because they use a vacuum during the process. And his crew did a fantastic job of sealing everything off so that clean up was very minimal. Quality of Work: Again, all I can say is WOW! Our floors are so beautiful, so much more beautiful than I ever imagined. The floors we chose had a lot of detailed work, white oak with inlaid Walnut detail and flooring on the diagonal, which required a master craftsperson to execute well, and Dan was all that and more. Patient, consistent, and totally committed to doing the best work possible. And he did. Can't say enough about him. And the team that finished the floors were equally as committed to perfection. Quality of Service: Bob and his crew were very professional, very, very skilled, and very committed to their quality of work. I had my hardwood floors done by Van Briggle Floors, and I'm very happy with their work and professionalism. When I walked into Van Briggle Floors in Campbell, I was pleasantly surprised at their large selection of samples. Bob is the owner and he was very patient with my list of questions and explained to me the various materials and methods of installation. I was very impressed with their customer service, and since his price was comparable to other flooring company, I decided to go with him. His crew came to work as scheduled, and worked very efficiently. However, 2 days prior to work's completion, my kitchen was flooded due to mal-functioning of the kitchen sink. Water had completely covered the kitchen, the living room, the dinning room and parts of the bedroom. I was devastated, so I called Bob to let him know the news. He and his crew came by the next morning to check out the situation. Because the water had soaked thru the hardwood floors, Bob's crew had to completely remove all the newly installed hardwood floors, and he then suggested I rent a few large fans to dry out the concrete floors (as to prevent molding in the future). I followed his suggestions, and after a few days of drying out the concrete, his crew came back and re-installed the hardwood floors again. They worked efficiently and completed the work in a short period. It was a very stressful week, but Bob was definitely helpful in this time of crisis, and his crew worked efficiently to get the job done quickly. He said he only does big jobs and would not consider a repair job in Morgan Hill. Typically when a company can't do a job they will refer you to someone who can. Sam (the installer) is a craftsman and was unfazed by the canyon they discovered when they removed the carpeting from our bedroom. After seeing how poorly my friend's floor was installed I'm so glad I used Van Briggle. They spent a long time making sure the floor was properly aligned and I'm very pleased with the results. We had one minor issue: we weren't aware that we wouldn't be able to get in the house one night. Our concrete slab needed a moisture barrier (paint on waterproofing) and it was still wet when we got home so we left footprints it in and they had to re-do the coating (which they did without complaint). When the project seemed like it was going to take longer than expected they brought in extra people from another project in order to finish on time. We just recently bought our first house, and wanted to replace the carpets in the bedrooms with cork flooring. We got a number of bids, thought over our options, and ended up choosing Van Briggle Floors. Our choice was based not on price alone (while not the cheapest, Van Briggle was competitive), but rather on the reputation for reliability - we had only a month to get everything done and there was no room for any schedule slippage. What a good decision that turned out to be. As it happened, there was an unforeseen condition that made it more time consuming to lay down floors - earthquake strapping. Bob and crew recently completed a hardwood/carpet job at our new house. They laid new hardwood in the kitchen and refinished already existing hardwood in the hallway and in one bedroom. (They also re-carpeted our three other bedrooms.) They made the new hardwood match the existing hardwood perfectly, and they repaired some pretty significant damage on the existing hardwood. I purchased approximately 1000SF of 5" Hickory flooring. Many of the planks varied in width by up to 1/16" and the ends were not mitered (just cut at 90deg angle). This of course made installation more difficult and I was not using Van Briggle for installation. Additionally, when I purchased the wood they had mentioned it was no problem for them to store it while my construction progressed (I had offered to delay purchase until we were further along however they recommended that I purchase then) after about 1 month of storage, the owner started to threaten to charge me.
