​I have been shopping at Value Village for years, and it is consistently one of the best thrift experiences around. They have absolutely earned a perfect five-star rating from me. ​The selection and value are simply unmatched. Dropped off a few donations at this location before and there's always a staff coming out to help and provide you with a coupon. Their coupon is usually 20% off of a purchase of $50 so I don't find much use for it. They have a good selection of home and clothing, but the store tends to be in a bit of disarray. I hate that you still can't use the change rooms because you can only do exchanges here and within 14 days. So I'll usually wear leggings and a tank top with a sweater if I know I'm going to want to check out the clothing. That way, I can kinda just try it on in the store. It's super uncomfortable though because there's just a bunch of people staring at you sometimes. The clothes are wicked packed into the racks too and I've found plenty of pieces with holes/ tears. Those should be sent for fabric recycling, not sold to people for the same amount as a piece that isn't wrecked. The pricing has gone up at Value Village. It's no longer easy to find a good thrifted item. There's times where I've found items that cost MORE here than at regular... Sometimes, the original price tag is actually still attached, and I'm not just referring to dollarama items. It's just become a really dishonest place. Still, it's thrifting, so you do need to put time into it if you want to hopefully find a treasure. Staff here are hit and miss. Some of them are nice and helpful, and some are just really rude. I can't blame the miserable ones though. People need to stop throwing unwanted items all over the store. It contributes to the messy store and it's really disrespectful to the staff that have to clean it up. The floor also seems eternally dusty. There's so many dust bunnies, if I do find a good piece of clothing, I'm immediately terrified of letting it touch the floor. We have been dropping off items to donate at this location for several years. The process is easy, just drive up and an employee comes to help. They also provide a coupon to use at their facility as a thank you. I did read some negative reviews about the shopping experience, but haven't been a customer, only for donating items. I find it's a good thrift shop to donate to, rather than adding to our landfills with items that could benefit another person. read more

This review is for the donations centre. It's a new year. For some reason, I am in a decluttering phase. I have a ton of books that I have kept over the years and do not use. I love to read, but my home feels like a library these days, minus the borrowing part of the operation. I did a quick search online and found that Value Village accepts book donations. Perfect! I took roughly a dozen hardback books over on a Wednesday morning. The donation centre is located on the left side of the store when you face its main entrance. I parked and a staff member immediately came down to greet me. I had my books in a reusable bag. I asked whether I could get my bag back, as they take your goods into the store. He said yes. Sure enough, he took my books and brought back my bag. As an unexpected gesture, he gave me a coupon to buy stuff in the store at a discount, as well as a leaflet to fill out a survey. The survey also allows you to get a discount towards an in-store purchase. Although that's all great and would prompt me to buy something, I am decluttering and am not in purchasing mode for the time being. I came back to donate another batch of books on Saturday. It was steady. There were three cars during my brief two minutes there. I do have some more books. I am thankful that I can donate them and hope that others will love these books as much as I once did. (7) read more

I have been a regular customer of Value village for over ten years and have donated many times to various stores. I have never made a formal complaint before but this experience at the Markham Road Value Village was absolutely ridiculous. I have never had any issues exchanging an item, I go to Value Villages around Ontario because I travel for work. I am extremely disappointed and almost embarrassed with my recent visit to the point where I don't think I will be going back. The manager- Mini- refused to exchange a nightgown- which was clearly a lace/satin nightgown (with a tag on it from Le Vie en rose) because it was "not pajamas"? The price tag was marked as pajamas, the receipt said it was pajamas. The manager told me I have to drive back to Whitby ( almost an hour away from my house ) to exchange this item because it would be on their cameras? why? I am still so confused why I was not allowed to exchange this item. It doesn't make any sense. It made me feel like I had done something wrong? I still had 7 days left out of the 14 days exchange window. The tag was still intact. Luckily this item only cost $5 but it is not the point of it. This nightgown doesn't fit. The change rooms are still closed. If I am not able to exchange an item after making a purchase at value village, I will not be making purchases at all. I will also be donating my items elsewhere from now on, why would I donate to a place that rips people off? Not happy at all. That manager should be let go because she makes decisions that loose customers. read more

There's nothing better than finding a bargain at a thrift store; it feels like a treasure hunt. Spilled some coffee on my white sweater before church and so I needed a replacement fast! VV comes to the rescue! I found a beautiful knitted sweater that looked and smelled just washed (alot of people wash the clothes that they are going to donate) but what I also found was a short sleeved knitted cardigan for $2.99 SCORE! Typical of most VVs that I've been to. I go here when I'm in the area or when they're having a sale. read more

After reading previous reviews, and other reviews of Value Village, Most were saying that VV overpriced their items. So i was curious to take a look at this location. I went in there not expecting to find any deals. I bypass the clothing sections, surprisingly there were a lot of people going through all the clothes !! There's lots of books available. There was one kids bike (very good condition), sold already, it was like.. $35. I just quickly walk through the store... found a pair of skiis, with no price, i asked an associate, they said bring it to them on the side, and they will get a price. I said to myself.. great.. they are going to overprice it because i have interest in it. She comes back in less than a minute with a price tag on it... $9.99!! Not a bad deal!! A lot of items without price tags! They had one cashier, when a line up formed, they quickly opened up another cash!! Wow, what service!! On the side of the building is a drive up donation area. They make it really easy to donate!! Drive up, the gound rope sensor rings a bell inside, they come out to help. So easy!! Staff is friendly, the guy that came out even said - have a nice day! Overall a good experience. Next time i will spend a bit more time and browse a bit longer. So like everyone else during quarantine decided to declutter the house. The amount of stuff that just needed to goooooooo. Whatever I couldn't sell I decided to donate and I read that if you donate to value village they give you a 20% off coupon. So that's what I did, brought 2 boxes and bag of stuff to donate. This location has donation drop off on the side and you can pull your car right up in there and dump your stuff in the boxes with the attendant. I just walked up since I wanted to go inside anyways. Super simple there were about 4 bins outside to drop off and I was handed a coupon. I've never been inside this value village but it's pretty much the same as the others. There were clear labels for directions to walk in the aisles and wait in line for the cash. I found exactly what I needed and for a good price too. There wasn't a line to cash out and after using the coupon the cashier told me to fill out a survey for another coupon. Coupon on coupon bless. I basically come here for yarn for crafting and their selection is small and limited but I'm not picky about selection at the moment. If you have nothing better to do and want to try to find a treasure value village is the place to go. read more

I was checking out the books and there was a guy working there,who i think was checking inventory. He already blocked the books with his bike but i didn't let that bother me . He started a pile of national geographic books, blocking an area of books i wanted to check out. Since the books were in alphabetical order, i asked him if I can look at the section he blocked. He said "This is not a book store & the books are not in alphabetical order (even though the books liked like they were in alphabetical order?) i just happened to find 2 books , but didn't get to spend as much time as I wanted to search. Came here to check out halloween costumes. I have been to Party City, Dollarama, Costume Supercentre. You get what you pay for, the halloween costume section was soo disorganized! Empty costume bags, costumes out of bags, hats, some dresses, accessories, and hangers laying on the floor, what a disaster! For full halloween costumes, you still pay at least 45 bucks at Value Village, so for a few bucks more (and definitely worth it), please don't waste your time at Value Village and go to Party City / Halloween City instead where there is a whole lot more selection, better choices and a whole lot better quality and stores are clean and organized. read more

For the other fashion thrifters out there, do not waste your time. Expect to find a lot of H&M, F21, and low end "streetwear" brands, that are at least 2 seasons old. Any clothing that are from a good brand, namely Zara at this location, are in 6/10 quality - some sort of notable wear or damage. If you're looking for second hand Aritzia, American Apparel, or Zara in great condition, I would recommend going to the Victoria Park location instead. On the bright side, this location has a plethora of DVDs, Books (including issues of National Geographic), and old school electronics. read more

I shop/visit different Value Village stores across the GTA and had the worst experience at this location exchanging an item. Mini - the manager was absolutely rude and accusatory. She claimed that the skirt I was exchanging had the tag in the incorrect location! I assured her that was the location that it was in when I purchased it but she would not accept it. I said isn't it possible that the store that tagged it placed it in the incorrect location and she said all stores placed in same location. I was completely annoyed. I then went up and down the aisles and noticed that not all tags are in the same location! Some shirts had the tag on the label, but if the shirt didn't have a label, the tag was placed where the label would be, some had the label on the hem of the sleeve! They were NOT in a consistent location! Totally disappointed in their lack of customer service or willingness to give me the benefit of the doubt. This manager (Mini) needs to be removed as I see other customers' reviews where they have had similar experiences dealing with her! Value Village needs to do better; or bring back the change rooms to minimize the need for frequent returns!!!! read more

If you've never been to Value Village or understand the concept of it, this may seem to be a mess of a store. Value Village (or Savers to most of the US and the Aussies), is a company that pays charities for their donated goods. When charities like Cerebral Palsy or Children's Wish, etc... calls your home to ask if you have any items to donate, they pick those items up from your front lawn and they get a lump sum of money from Value Village, regardless whether items are actually sellable or not. Ultimately, when you're going to a Value Village, you're going to a well-organised large scale yard sale (find me a yard sale that organises clothes and shoes by style and size then you win this argument). I have come here a few times, the first visit was quick and nothing too memorable about it, but my most recent visit was better when it seem like there's much more staff on the floor especially around the Halloween costume section and that's exactly what I came for. Their costume section can be quite overwhelming because they have a lot of items. I came specifically for a costume for a Día de los Muertos(Day of The Dead) theme party I am going to which they had a section for. I was also looking for a dress that would be suitable for my costume but couldn't find see anything in the costume section or the dresses section, so I asked a staff. The staff was really helpful in trying to help me find a dress, so much so that the staff revealed that they stash things in the back for themselves when they sort through them. Did they get a job here so they can get first dibs on the items? Perks of the job? Anyway, this staff's stash was buried so deep in the other pile of stuff that she was unable to get to it to show me anything. I left with everything I needed and more, spent way more time here than I expected. Items are seasonal to when they received them, so you'll always find different styles and items each time you visit, but you don't always have to get something. Remember to always thoroughly check your items before purchasing because they don't do that when they put it on the floor. I say if you need that odd piece of clothing this place is definitely worth a gander. Staff: There wasn't much staff presence. But then again I don't think they all wear name tags/uniforms so I don't know who works here. I saw I man browsing through one of the racks and fixing the clothes so not sure if he was an employee or someone with OCD. Cashier was cordial, overall it was alright. Store: The aisles are narrow so it's awkward to maneuver around. There are plenty of female clothes but very limited in men's selection. Like I said, if you are looking for that elusive item to complete your look this may have it for a cheap price. However, I'm a medium size and they were mostly large or extra large. My partner had found what she needed but I couldn't even find my size. Overall, store is ok, prices are ok, men's variety is not ok. read more

Something fishy is going on in this store it seems like there is a couple of customers (one man in particular) who has some sort of connection with the people sorting in the background. They put away the good items for him he ends up with buggies full of items before anyone else has even seen them. I brought it up to the management I have asked them to review their video where they can clearly see staff members coming out of the side door to hand him special items but they have done nothing about it this is been going on for a very long time. Value village is one place I visit when I am Inspired to shop for interesting things. I found a high end tripod with carry case for 12.99. I have found Xmas stuff, vintage T-shirts, too many CDs for 2.99 and books. For 3.99 You can spend a couple of hours just looking through all the items available at such a small cost. Unfortunately, sometimes I buy things and don't use them. So learn restraint and think before you buy. I am still trying to follow that rule of thumb. read more
